Now that you’re safe in the trailer (which is a phrase we never expected to write), it’s time to watch that Happy Birthday tape. This is another flashback that will also teach you how to get through the next section. It’s also super disturbing, which is par for the course in Resident Evil 7 biohazard. Coulrophobics beware!
This tape documents the fate of everyone’s favorite cameraman, Clancy. Turns out, Lucas had a bit of a test for him (and way too much time on his hands).
After Lucas’ introduction, overcome every instinct in your brain and approach the corpse-clown. Take the candle from his hand. Now, obviously, this isn’t going to be as simple as just walking in and placing the candle on the cake, but you have to go through the motions to trigger another speech from Lucas.
After the sprayers in the doorway extinguish your candle, stay in the cake room and head toward the barrel. Take the winding key which has the unfortunate side-effect of spilling whatever was inside all over the floor, but that couldn’t possibly be a bad thing, right? Take note of the locked box on the wall, but you can’t do anything with that until you find the glyphs to open it.
Head back to the kitchen area. You’re going to use the stove in a second, but let’s do something else first. Turn left and head into the bathroom to the left of the corpse-clown. Flush the toilet (what is it with the family and hiding things in toilets!?) and you’ll find a dirty telescope. It’s useless at the moment — it’s dirty — but, luckily, we know somewhere that sprays water! Walk to the doorway and use the dirty telescope. As you walk forward with the dirty telescope active, the water with wash it, turning it into a regular, usable telescope.
Head back to the kitchen and light the stove. Once you get a flame, light your candle. Turn to your right and walk into the room with the gas pipe on your left and the bank of monitors in front of you. Walk to the door to the right of the monitors and use the candle to burn the rope holding the door shut.
You can ignore the balloons filling this hallway (or you can duck down and pop them with your candle which is honestly kind of satisfying). At the other end of the hall, look on the floor to the right of the table for a deflated yellow balloon. There’s a door behind you locked with a five character password, but we don’t know that yet.
Take the balloon back to the bank of monitors. Turn to your left and fill the balloon from the pipe on the wall. It will eventually pop and it’s full of nails because of course it is. But it also had a quill pen inside.
Turn your attention to the monitors. Look at them through the telescope to see three glyphs — we referred to ours as a «jedi,» a «crow on a bell» and a «fetus,» but we’re not sure if they’re random. Head back to the cake room and dial these numbers into the box on the wall to find the straw doll.
Roast the doll over the stove like a messed up marshmallow to reveal the dummy finger inside, then return to the corpse-clown. Install the dummy finger, quill pen and the winding key in the clown, then wind the key.
After something happens — we don’t actually know, we had our eyes closed — you’ll end up with the password to that locked door in the hallway. Go there, dial in the word and head inside the room that opens. You’ll find the valve handle.
Take this back to the cake room and install it in the pipe to turn off the flow of water to the sprayers.
Light the candle at the stove and take it back to the cake where everything works out great for our boy Clancy.
After the tape ends, hit the tape recorder to save, then it’s time to get ready for Lucas’ party.

Resident Evil 7 is here, and with it comes several instances of blood-curdling horror. Sprinkled throughout the game — aside from the terrifying sights that await you in the main story mode — are special video tapes that you can find and play through for additional bits and bobs of narrative. Some are easy to find. Others, like the Happy Birthday tap, are a little more well-hidden.
The Happy Birthday tape is one you’ll definitely want to complete, but it may be a little obtuse at first because there are two different versions of the puzzle in Resident Evil 7.
We’ve put together the strategies you need to complete both the optional and story versions of the tape so you can have the best birthday party ever. Well, kinda.
Resident Evil 7 Happy Birthday Video Tape Location: Where to find the tapes
There are two versions of the Happy Birthday Tape you must complete. One is part of the main Resident Evil 7 story. One is optional, according to PowerPyx, but you’ll definitely want to pick it up and play through it. This is your guide to finding the Happy Birthday Tape that isn’t part of the story mode.
When you first escape the Old House following the boss encounter that resulted in your accessing the Snake Key, you will be free to traverse the area in order to reach the locked gate seen in the yard. The gate will require both Red and Blue keycards. Ignore it and check out the kid’s room you come across on your way. In the attic, you’ll see the Happy Birthday video tape available for you to pick up.
Resident Evil 7 Happy Birthday Video Tape: Walkthrough and guide
When you have it, take the Happy Birthday tape to a TV to view it and you will be required to solve a puzzle in a special room of sorts.
This is a special room Lucas Baker has put together to make you perform for his sadistic pleasure.
You will need to first pick up the candle Lucas has set out for you. Listen to Lucas as he rambles on and say he would like for you to light the candle… though there are a lot of obstacles standing in your way to complete that.
First, open the combination picture lock with the following combination: chainsaw man, raven on hat, and fetus. You will receive a Straw Doll.
You could alternatively retrieve this combination by retrieving the Telescope from the dirty toilet in your vicinity one room over, equipping it, and running through the water sprinkler in the same room with the cake. You can point the Telescope in the direction of the pictorial screens behind you in the main cake room, where the symbols are revealed.

Go to the keg and remove the Winding Key. Then take the Straw Doll you received from the box that had the combination lock and burn it on the stove in the adjoining room.
You will be left with a Dummy Finger.
Go ahead and light your Candle at the stove, then go around the hallway filled with gray balloons. Burn the rope on the door with the Candle. Pick up the Balloon in the corner of the room.
Go back to the room where there is an open gas pipe and use the Balloon on it. It will burst and reveal a Quill Pen.
Take the Dummy Finger, Quill Pen and Winding Key and use it on the clown statue in the hallway where you got the Candle. The clown will etch the word «Loser» on your arm. This is the password to the locked door in the balloon room.
Capcom/Eurogamer
Turn the dials on the lock so that they read «Loser.» Go through the door and get the Valve Handle. Take the Valve Handle and use it on the pipe in the cake room where the water is sprinkling where you walk through it. Then finally take the Candle and light it at the stove.
Return to the room with the cake and light the candles on the cake. Congratulations! You have completed the tape.

This guide to Resident Evil 7 is dedicated to solving one of the most difficult puzzles in the game — the puzzle «Birthday». Naturally, the guide contains spoilers.
It all starts with the words «Happy Birthday!» appearing on the screen.
and «Experiment: Can Delinquent Idiots Solve Puzzles?» — then you’ve come to the right place.
- Once you are in the room, turn around and grab the candle from the «body» behind you.
- Go to the kitchen and approach the drops of water and the cake. Here the candle goes out, but the light comes on.
- Go back to where you started, there is light here too. Go to the bathroom.
- Drain the water first, which will cause it to overflow and allow you to retrieve the telescope. Equip him while standing underwater to wash him.
- Go back to the kitchen, go to the monitors on the wall
- Look at the monitors through the telescope and notice that some of the shapes stand out. These are combination tips.
- Return to the cake and enter the following symbols: hanged man, tombstone, fetus.

- Enter the room full of balloons — there will be a deflated balloon in the corner that you can pick up.
- Move towards the kitchen and approach the door with a protruding pipe from which gas comes out. Use the balloon on the pipe to inflate it until it bursts.
- Here you will find a trap with a nail and a feather, you can keep the feather for yourself.
- Go back to where you started and give the corpse a feather.
- Go back to the cake room and go to the barrel in the corner and turn the crown. The black liquid is suspicious, but it’s normal.
- Return to the body and insert the key, after which it will fill you with a tattoo.
- The tattoo is a word to be used in the balloon room. Go there and enter the secret word: Loser / Loser (Loser).
- In the new room, find the valve in the stele under the words «HERE».
- Go back to the cake room. To your left will be a pipe with a place for a valve. Insert and twist to stop water from flowing.
- Return to the kitchen, light the candle and place the candle on the cake.
- Happy Birthday!
- Go back to the faucet and turn on the water.

After surviving Resident Evil 7 after hours of playing and battling Jack and Margaret Baker, new challenges await players.
This time they will have to face the eldest son of the family, Lucas, and solve a sophisticated puzzle with a videotape with a positive inscription: «Happy Birthday».
What is the task?
This test can only be accessed if you have the Serpent Key, which can open the children’s room in the attic, where the cassette we need is located, launching the puzzle into action. The correct decision will help you get the Out Before Dessert trophy. Before this quest can be completed by the main character Ethan, the player must experience the story in the body of Clancy, the character from the Demo’s Starting Hour. This will make it easier to cope with the task in real time.
Clancy is trapped by Lucas and forced to complete a complicated task. He must put a lit candle on top of the cake. The catch is that Lucas set up sprinklers that react to any movement, and they go off every time someone tries to walk under them and extinguish the candle. To successfully complete the task, you need to turn off the sprinklers.
Resident Evil 7 order
First, take the lit candle from the clown mannequin, to the right of the entrance. Go to the birthday cake room with a candle in your hand. This will elicit ridicule from Lucas.
When he’s done bullying, grab the winding key from the wooden barrel. It will come in handy later.
Head back to the clown and flush the toilet to his left. A telescope will appear in the water, you need to pull it out.
After that, head to the entrance to the room where the cake is located. When the sprinklers work, use them to clean the telescope. Get out from under them and use the cleaned telescope to inspect the monitors hanging on the wall. There you will see a combination.

After opening, you will find a straw doll.
Take the doll and take her to the gas stove. Set it on fire, after which there will be a finger. Light the candle.
Use a candle to light a rope that locks doors. In the room you will find balloons. Find a half-deflated, yellow balloon.
Put the ball on the pipe in the kitchen wall. It will inflate and explode. In your hand you will find a protruding nail, you need to pull it out and throw it away, it is useless. But the pen-pen sticking out of the stomach needs to be taken out and saved.
Then go to the clown and install all the parts found on him — a finger and a pen-pen on his hand, and a winding key on his stomach. The dummy will «come to life» and grab Clancy’s hand, and with the found pen will draw the word «Loser» on it
Go to the room with balls and enter the password on the lock that locks the doors. There is a valve inside.
Head back to the birthday cake room and place the valve on the pipe.
This will help turn off the water.
