Daymare: 1998 is a game that, far from reaching the level of Resident Evil remakes, still deserves a chance from fans of the survival horror genre for the efforts of differentiation and depth of its created universe. A great debut for Invader Studios.

Invader Studios has more than paid tribute to the most classic survival horror with Daymare: 1998. Unfortunately, the story that you star as a player in this play is not as interesting as the background of it, which can easily go unnoticed. However, the game has gameplay and a series of mechanics and details that do great justice to the horror titles of the 90s and, especially, to the first Resident Evil.

Daymare: 1998 is a low budget release with an ambition that outpaces its production values, but it’s still a good attempt. There are stumbling blocks – hit detection, boss fights, animations – but the lighting is good, the soundtrack is great, and the exploration is satisfying.

Daymare: 1998 is an ambitious game, but this homage can hardly please fans of the genre. Yet, its mundane scenario and old-school gameplay stand alongside clever puzzles and some true survival horror sensations. At a reduced price, its weaknesses might wear off a bit.

Daymare 1998 is a commendable attempt at 90s horror nostalgia… though its excruciatingly slow controls, frustrating inventory system and problematic framerate make for a near unplayable experience. Shame, cause there’s some promise beneath the misery.

The broad and generic story is the least offensive aspect of Daymare: 1998. The rotten gameplay and ugly presentation that support this roof of mediocrity won’t shelter even the most desperate horror fan. There is nothing classic about the gameplay or story; it is every bit as derivative as most of the soulless schlock that modern studios excrete from their focus group testing. There is no attempt at having any guts at trying to make something that is a throw-back, and the best Daymare: 1998 can offer are a few Easter Eggs and obvious nods to the games that inspired it.

The peopleMany complain about the inventory management and about Bullet management, I think it is actually one of the best parts of the game. The people that complain do not understand what a survival horror game is about. The clunky controls, hard inventory management, slow moving characters and enemies that are Bullet sponges are all there to create tension, to actually make you worried and tense about the next part of the game. Bottom line if you are old school, tank control Resident Evil fan you will certainly enjoy this game… Expand

Talk about a game thats hot and cold. Daymare is a love letter to everything horror and retro but sadly some features stop it from seeing its full potential. The good: old school survival horror gameplay. If you love the classic RE gameplay like me then pick 90’s mode. Its how it should be played. The easter eggs and references are really cool to see and you can feel the love the developers have for classic horror and sci fi franchises. The soundtrack is very good, love the use of synth is used in the game.
The bad: weird how a game that was meant to be a fan made remake of RE2 has worse voice acting than the original RE2. hell, its even worse than the first RE game, Dr Atherton and Liev are the worst offenders Atherton sounds like a Btec Moss from I.T crowd and Piev’s voice is just so hamfisted. The story is also baffling and more nonsensical than the room. Characters talk about things we dont know about, character motivations switch put of the blie. Liev betraying the squad for no reason and sandman surviving. All in all it’s ok. Just really inconsistent. If you love classic survival horror then i’d get this. If it’s on sale then defo get it… Expand

Pure garbage fire! I’ve just spent the last hour attempting to complete the last boss section thinking, surely past the clunky, glitchy, badly designed, awful controls I would be able to complete the section AS I’M PLAYING ON EASY! No, there’s always something that glitches out and the boss kills me in one hit. The elevator video playing whilst the boss is running towards you and when the camera flashes back I’m on the floor dead is just unacceptable! The normal enemies holding onto you and sometimes pressing X does nothing so you have to watch your character slowly die for a reload because the game hasn’t been properly tested! The last straw was when shot a canister dead on and knocked down the boss, ran past him then his instant death animation suddenly plays and i’m dead, AGAIN!
A truly awful way to end my dedicated perseverance due to this game having led the path of what I feel is one of the greatest genres of game, I stuck with it’s clunkyness though out, yet to be totally insulted at the end just due to sheer incompetency gives this game it’s well deserved ZERO out of 10! Simply AWFUL!… Expand

Very cheesy. I do enjoy a lot of games that are cheesy and not AAA games but this game was bad. Trailer is very deceiving. It is labeled as a cheesy horror game like a 90’s horror game which is what drew me in but then was so let down. The graphics were cheesy which was fine to me but then the controls were very stiff and weird. The gameplay was bad and the movement of player and monsters was bad and stiff. Shooting was horrible. This was a real let down.

Natural lighting systems: basic criteria, examples of implementation and calculation
Natural lighting. It’s amazing that it doesn’t cost anything. At the same time, our main task is to be able to manage it. Since one of the most discussed topics in the world is global warming and colossal carbon dioxide emissions, the introduction of energy-saving systems has now become especially relevant.
Our laboratory is located in Austria, near Innsbruck, and has existed since 1976 and now employs more than 50 people. Lighting Laboratories Bartenbach is an independent office that designs, but does not manufacture, lighting systems.
In 2003, the Light Academy Bartenbach was founded. After a successful two-year training, newly minted specialists receive state diplomas of graduation from this institution and the degree of Master of light and lighting (“Master in the field of lighting”).
Through our own R&D department, we study both artificial and natural lighting systems in detail. In the process of work, we visualize many projects using real layouts. To do this, in our laboratory there is a workshop that manufactures them. For the customer, this opportunity is very important, since neither beautiful photographs nor computer visualizations will allow him to fully appreciate the lighting both inside the building and outside.
Fig. 1. «Artificial sky» installation and building layout (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
In addition, we can show how the lighting will be at different times of the day, and in real time. For this purpose, we use the «Artificial sky» installation (see Fig. 1). Together with the layout, this possibility is an additional argument for a faster and, most importantly for us, a positive decision.
Fig. 2. Natural lighting system of the Shanghai Bank in Hong Kong (illustrated by the Bartenbach Academy of Light)
Another department that is part of our laboratory is the Department of Perceptual Psychology, where all aspects of human perception of light are studied and analyzed. As a rule, such projects are state-owned and financed either by the Austrian government or the European Union.
First natural lighting project in the early 1980s. for us was the Shanghai Bank in Hong Kong (see Fig. 2). Its main feature is that daylight is redirected inside the room with the help of a huge reflector and passes down through special prisms on the roof of the building (see Fig. 3).
Fig. 3. System for redirecting natural light inside a building (mockup) (illustrated by Bartenbach Light Academy) |
Natural lighting design
Which criteria are important when designing natural lighting? There are many, but the main ones are as follows.
1. Transmission of the maximum amount of daylight into the room in which the person is located.
2. Uniform distribution of light in the room and almost complete rejection of artificial lighting during daylight hours. It should be noted that in one of the major projects we have achieved savings of about 300 thousand euros per year only due to the fact that artificial lighting was not used during the day.
3. It is necessary that too much sunlight enters the building. The illumination of the workplace, for example, in the office, should be 300 … 700 lx. The illumination on the street in cloudy weather is about 10 4 lux. The infrared component of solar radiation, due to which an excessive thermal load occurs, should be constantly monitored. Our task is to illuminate, but not to heat. Careful calculation of the system allows in the summer to reduce the cost of energy consumption, which is spent on air conditioners.
4. Reduce glare to a comfortable level.
5. People in the room should not lose visual contact with the external environment, with the street. For example, if we are talking about a window, you need to keep its main function.
So, the key problem is not the lack, but the excess of daylight. It blinds and negatively affects the performance of office employees.
Are you familiar with this situation? Bright light from the window makes the information on the monitor illegible. (See Fig. 4).
Fig. 4. Typical lighting situation for many offices (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
Shielding a room from glare using standard methods reduces window glare but reduces the amount of natural light inside the room.
Many intelligent systems are now known to protect a room from direct sunlight and to redirect diffused daylight deeper into the room. Consider two lighting options using the example of an office. In the next photo (see Fig. 5) — an office with lamellas that redirect light into the interior of the room and reduce the blinding effect of light from the window.
Fig. 5. Properly sized natural light in an office space (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
This system was developed in our laboratory and has been used for a long time.
Through a highly reflective ceiling, daylight is redirected into the interior of the room. We use the ceiling with the same coating for artificial lighting. It can be seen that there is not a single lamp on the ceiling — they are located below, due to which the artificial light falls at the same angle as the natural one. Thus, high-quality natural lighting was realized and, at the same time, artificial lighting.
The next project is Genzyme Corporation Headquarters, Cambridge, USA (see Figure 6.1). This building has 13 floors, the facade is fully glazed. In the center of the building is an atrium that spreads light throughout the building. For the natural lighting system, we used both the facades and the atrium itself, and in doing so, illuminated 90% of all building workspaces. For side lighting, the already mentioned reflective lamellas were used.
|

Fig. 6.2. A prism chandelier that transforms light into highlights that “enliven” the room (illustration by the Bartenbach Academy of Light) |
On cloudy days, the system functions in such a way that natural light is redirected deep into the offices. If the sun is shining and direct rays fall on the facade, the system redirects them, letting only the necessary portion of light into the room, without increasing the heat load on the office premises.
This building uses 42% less electricity than similar buildings. We are very proud that it received the Green Build Platinum Award, the highest rating for quality energy efficient building design in America.
A professional approach to natural lighting design also contributed to this 42%. Thanks to natural lighting, we have reduced, on the one hand, additional artificial lighting to a minimum, and on the other hand, we have ensured that the energy consumed by the air conditioning system has decreased significantly.
The following photo (see Figure 7.1) shows the project in section. On the roof of the building are prism systems that redirect light. These are special acrylic boards made in the form of prisms. If the sun’s rays hit the prism at a right angle, they are reflected back. If the light falls at a different angle, it passes through the prism and penetrates into the room, scattering inside.
Fig. 7.1. Scheme for transmitting light into the building (illustration of the Bartenbach Light Academy) |
The position of the movable prisms is optimized according to the movement of the sun. While working on the project, we also wanted to create a visually beautiful room, that is, to revive it from the inside with the help of sunlight. We completed not only functional tasks, but also enlivened the room due to a sufficient amount of sunlight.
Heliostats are installed on the roof of the building — special reflectors that capture sunlight and redirect it to an additional reflector, which, in turn, directs it inside the building. Photo 7.2 is a top-down view of the building. Special prismatic elements, reflecting sunlight, distribute it in a chaotic way, thanks to which people in the building have positive emotions even on the first floor.
Fig. 7.2. The principle of operation of prisms located on the roof of a building: scattered sky light passes inward, and direct infrared rays are reflected (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
Entering this building, you immediately find yourself in a cozy atmosphere. Because the atrium is animated by sunbeams, it doesn’t feel like there are 13 more floors above you.
In order to make the natural light come down as efficiently as possible, the walls of all floors are highly reflective (the degree of reflection is more than 90%) aluminum coating, thanks to which the light is not lost, but redirected down as efficiently as possible.
It should be noted that in the next project we used prismatic systems for the first time in such a large number — the roof was almost completely covered with them. This is the building of the German Parliament in Bonn. You can see what the room looks like inside, its ceiling (see Fig. 8).
Fig. 8.1. The natural lighting system of the German Parliament in Bonn (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
|
|
Fig. 8.2. Translucent ceiling structure (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
If the buildings are too close together, the possibility of transmitting natural light to the first floors facing the courtyard (see Fig. 9) is very small.
Fig. 9. Transporting light into the inner courtyard of buildings located close to each other (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
In this project, which was carried out in Munich, one wall of the courtyard was covered entirely with highly reflective aluminum, redirecting daylight down the courtyard and doubling the light level.
These movable lamellas (see fig. 10) also follow the sun, so no matter where it is, daylight is reflected down the yard. Thanks to this solution, we were able to illuminate the office space on the ground floor with the amount of daylight that meets the accepted standards.
Fig. 10. Movable slats (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
In many buildings, the following openings can be used to transmit natural light into the interior (see fig. 11, 12).
|
|
Fig. 11. Natural lighting system at Zurich Airport (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
Fig. 12. Scheme of the opening for transporting light (illustration of the Bartenbach Academy of Light) |
This is an ordinary opening without any installations. If aluminum reflectors are strengthened in it, then the amount of natural light under this opening will triple. This is how the design of the Zurich airport building was completed.
Thanks to the reflectors, there was no glare even at an angle — see view from bottom to top (fig. 13).
Fig. 13. Bottom view for light transmission (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
The next project (see Fig. 14) was commissioned last year. This is the third terminal of Singapore Changi Airport. Our laboratory dealt with both artificial and natural lighting for this project.
Fig. 14. Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
Only by reducing the consumption of artificial lighting, more than 3 million kW of electricity were saved annually. Thus, during this period, 2,400 tons of carbon dioxide, emitted during the generation of electricity, or during the operation of engines for more than 9 years, did not enter the atmosphere. 00 cars. This is a huge building. The area of its roof alone occupies more than 65 thousand square meters. m.
The architectural idea was to create light openings in the form of sails. Based on this idea, we tried to implement natural lighting in the building and built a model to test the quantitative indicators. The layout was made on a scale of 1:33 (see Fig. 15).
Fig. 15. Model of the third terminal of the Singapore Changi Airport (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
We have tested its performance in an installation that simulates natural light. It is called «Artificial Sky» and has a diameter of 6 m (see Fig. 1). Similar layouts can be placed inside it and check any lighting that occurs during daylight hours. As already noted, the customer can easily and quickly make a decision based on the model.
More than 900 of these rectangular openings were installed throughout the roof area (see Fig. 16).
Fig. 16. Rectangular openings for transporting light (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
Each of them has one movable element, which we affectionately called «butterfly wings» due to the similarity in design with the wings of this insect (see fig. 17).
Fig. 17. Airport roof with mounted «Butterfly Wings» (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
If the sky is cloudy, the element is perpendicular to the site and open. If direct sunlight hits the opening, the blades are covered. Even if the sun is high and its rays fall perpendicularly, the «butterfly wings» are opened in such a way that they completely block the opening (see Fig. 18).
Fig. 18. Transportation of light to the airport building during the day (illustration of the Bartenbach Academy of Light) |
It is very bright inside because the elements are 20% perforated. A certain amount of sunlight flows down unhindered, creating optimal illumination inside the room. Thanks to these blades, we were able to greatly reduce the light load by reflecting the majority of the direct sunlight outward. Of course, in Singapore there is also a dark time of the day when artificial lighting is required. We have strengthened the light sources inside this opening (see fig. 19).
Fig. 19. Transportation of light to the airport building at night (illustration of the Bartenbach Academy of Light) |
The big advantage of this solution is that there is no heat load due to artificial lighting. Maintenance is very easy because it can also be carried out outside. To remove the blinding effect of natural light, to redirect it downwards, a parabolic-type opening was created. In this case, the highly reflective property of aluminum was again used.
In figure 20 — the device of a parabolic opening and butterfly wings.
Fig. 20. Butterfly Wing Device (illustrated by Bartenbach Light Academy) |
General photographs show that daylight does not glare (see fig. 21).
Fig. 21. Natural light does not blind (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
Only where the greenhouse with palm trees is located inside the building receives dosed, brighter sunlight (see Fig. 22).
Fig. 22. Increased the amount of natural light in the greenhouse |
Only a few openings have this function, because we wanted to avoid high light load. To feel the sun, a bright day, good weather, these elements are enough.
This photo shows (see fig. 23) how a small light tube can illuminate, for example, an underground car park. Thanks to this lighting, a person loses the feeling that he is in an underground space.
Fig. 23. Natural lighting in the underground car park (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
Figure 24 shows the upper part of the light guides, brought out into the street.
Fig. 24. Upper part of the underground parking light guides (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
Daylight simulation
Naturally, we can’t help but talk about cases where it is not possible to use daylight inside buildings. Therefore, we use materials that mimic daylight.
With aluminum ceilings, we create a sense of daylight, as the room appears to be twice as tall. It can be seen that artificial lighting systems that are almost imperceptible to the eye can be built into such aluminum ceilings. They are made on a LED basis (see Fig. 25).
Fig. 25. A room illuminated by an «LED ceiling» (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
We developed such an LED system in the laboratory — through small holes with a diameter of 8 mm, you can illuminate the entire room (see Fig. 26, 27).
Fig. 26. The design of the secondary optics of the “LED ceiling” (illustration of the Bartenbach Academy of Light) |
|
Fig. 27. Visualization of the light flux formed by the optics of the LED (illustration of the Bartenbach Academy of Light) |
The developed modules are also used for white ceilings: you see an example of a room that is lit exclusively with LEDs operating in the «daylight» and «evening» modes. In this case, it is important that in the evening the light is softer and warmer than during the day (see Fig. 28, 29).
Fig. 28. Artificial LED lighting «daylight» color temperature (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
|
Fig. 29. Artificial LED lighting «warm», evening color temperature (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
Thus, in a room where there is no sunlight, the system maintains the psycho-physiological balance of a person, the work of his internal biological clock.
Another option is to use materials with a prismatic, jagged cross-section instead of glossy or matte materials. It can be seen (see Fig. 30) that the height of the ceiling in this case is small, but at first glance it seems that it is much larger.
Fig. 30. Thanks to a special ceiling covering, the height of the room is visually increased (photo by Peter Bartenbach) |
Luminaires located on the wall. Thanks to the microstructure of the ceiling, the light falls at a right angle down. The positive effect of such lighting is that the height of the room seems much higher than it actually is.
Well, naturally, within the framework of one article, it is difficult for us to reveal all the subtleties of the design and application of natural lighting systems. But we hope that we will still have the opportunity to speak on the pages of the Modern Lighting Engineering magazine. See you soon!

To get around the traffic jam, several motorists decide to drive through the tunnel connecting Manhattan and New Jersey, the same decision is made by a convoy of trucks illegally transporting toxic waste. Having made a successful robbery, a group of criminals flies into the same tunnel. Losing control, their car crashes into trucks, and the strongest explosion destroys the tunnel. A handful of survivors remain under the rubble: one of the guards of the tunnel, a writer, an athlete, a married couple with a daughter, an elderly couple with a dog, and several transported teenage criminals. Former rescuer Keith Latura, who now works as an ordinary taxi driver, drives up to the tunnel. He quickly figures out what happened and comes up with a plan to save the people. According to his plan, it is necessary to blow up the tunnel again in order to protect people from poisonous smoke. Salvation leaders do not agree with this.
Finally, Keith is allowed to descend into the tunnel through the ventilation system. At this time, the athlete Roy Nord is trying to get out through the ventilation passage under the river bed. The whale makes his way to the survivors and climbs after Swarm. He tries to persuade him to return, as the passage is badly damaged and could collapse at any second. The arrogant athlete does not listen to him and climbs further, the passage collapses and Roy fills up. The whale returns to the survivors. The collapse causes another explosion, which kills Kadiim, a black teenage criminal. Almost immediately after that, the ceiling collapses and cold water begins to flow into the tunnel. Everyone climbs onto the roofs of cars so as not to suffer from hypothermia. Kit sends sentinel George to check on the progress of the rescuers, and he himself asks for help from the writer Madeleine to carry out his plan. Everything works out, and the clay cuts people off from water and fire.
The mayor of the city believes that the survivors most likely died in another explosion. He orders the rescuers to proceed with the analysis of the rubble. George returns and reports that the rubble has begun clearing. This greatly displeases Keith, as these works can bring down the tunnel. At that moment, the asphalt collapses under George, and he is trapped with a broken neck. Together, everyone else manages to pull it out. Keith does not know what to do next, and in the meantime, due to the work of rescuers, water begins to flow rapidly into the tunnel again. The survivors abandon George and head to the booth the builders used earlier and remembered by Keith. In this booth, they find a hole in the wall, they begin to widen the passage at the moment when the water began to fill the booth. In the booth, they lose Eleanor, the wife of the elderly Roger Trilling. The survivors find a ladder leading to some kind of sewer system. At that moment, they hear the barking of a dog that belonged to an elderly couple. Keith decides to return to save her, but he himself is trapped, Madeleine tries to save him, but also to no avail. The rest manage to make it to the surface. Keith decides to set up another explosion. Together with Madeleine, he returns to the completely flooded tunnel, sets explosives on the ceiling, intending to blow up a layer of soil so that the blast wave causes decompression, and the rushing air would carry them to the surface. Everything works out, and they end up on the surface, where they are picked up by the nearest ship. Keith suggests going to the hospital across the bridge.

Daylight is an emotionally rich film, although not particularly confused in terms of deep meaning. The film was shot well, viewing is free, without registration, the experience is interesting, but for once.

no, what is it? there is no time to climb between the fans, the papers barely barely fly, and he is tearing himself up as if blown away by the wind, here all interest in the film disappeared
