Why you can trust Pocket-lint

(Pocket-lint) — In 2021 we got a remaster of three classic Grand Theft Auto games —  Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — but this so-called «Definitive Edition» was an unfortunate mess of bugs and disappointment.

The remaster was carried out by Grove Street Games and on release was met with generally unfavourable reviews on the various platforms it was available on.

Alas, the Definitive Edition left us and fans of the series wanting. Now a new concept trailer has shown what Grand Theft Auto: Vice City could have looked like.

The fan-made trailer shows what a proper GTA Vice City remaster could look like on modern gaming hardware like PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X/S consoles. It was created by YouTuber TeaserPlay and crafted using the Unreal Engine 5 game engine.

UE 5 has already been used to create quite a few impressive visions of what’s possible with Epic Games’ latest game engine. We’ve seen the incredible Matrix Awakens demo and other stunning views of the future of gaming. This fan-made creation shows us what GTA: Vice City could have looked like though and makes us yearn for the real thing.

TeaserPlay thought it was a good demonstration of what’s possible in Unreal Engine 5:

«I used Lumen for rendering and my point in making this video was to show how powerful Unreal Engine 5 is for making sandbox games and what the remaster version of GTA Vice City should look like.»

Of course, it’s just a concept and not a trailer for a real upcoming games release, but it still fills us with warm happy feelings.

This view of GTA: Vice City also comes shortly after the sad news of the passing of Ray Liotta who voiced Vice City’s protagonist Tommy Vercetti. But at least it’s a nice homage to him.

As if this tease wasn’t enough TeaserPlay also made a concept for San Andreas:

Vice City Mod Adds Tons Of New Content

By
Andrew Heaton

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is 20 years old but still being played, and this mod that took ten years to make really gives the original game a boost.

It’s hard to imagine that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is now two decades old. It may have aged in terms of its visuals, but it still has that GTA charm and replayability, not to mention being a game with one of the best cities and most distinctive settings. Despite its age, many people still go back to it, and there are plenty of mods out there that keep things fresh, including one which took the developer ten years to complete.

As spotted by PCGamesN, modder bibidibabidibu has uploaded an ambitious add-on for Vice City that adds a massive amount of content to the original game. Simply referred to as «Extended Features,» a recent video gives a sneak peek at what the mod has, as well as listing the number of people that have been involved in making it. Some things that it’s implemented include extra vehicles, such as a new hovercraft and jet-ski, additional clothes, a Ferris wheel, as well as new side missions, interiors, scripts, weapons, mini-games, and much more.

It really does sound like it’s one incredible mod for Vice City. Despite being twenty years old at this point, the game is evidently not something that is being left behind by the fan base, despite there being newer installments in the series. The description on ModDB calls this one of the «biggest extension mods» for the game and goes a long way to making sure it doesn’t break the vanilla experience. The fact that it took a bunch of people a decade to make is incredible as well and only further highlights just how much work has gone into it.

There is even more in Rockstar’s 2002 release than originally thought, as well. Recently, a cut mission from Vice City was discovered, which was allegedly never meant for the public to see. On top of that, someone else has managed to do a rendition of the game within the Unreal Engine, showing what a potential modern remake of this beloved classic could look like in this day and age.

Given the fact that the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition was a huge letdown, it’s good to know that there are fans and teams of developers out there who are willing to show the game a lot of love. The «Extended Features» mod could be the ultimate add-on for anyone who still loves playing this visually iconic GTA entry, but feel they’ve seen everything already.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City originally released in 2002 for PS2.

The remaster of GTA Vice City accidentally got a mission cut from the original game

During the development of GTA Vice City, some of the content never made it to release. Another mystery of the game has been revealed. Thanks to Rockstar’s idiosyncratic approach to making a remaster

Updated games in the series as part of the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition collection will now be remembered not only for technical problems. Thanks to the remasters, it became known about the mission that was cut from GTA Vice City

Blogger Vadim M is back with a new find. He managed not only to find traces of the mission « movie demo » in the files of GTA Vice City, but also to demonstrate something.

In the video, he first shows the files, and starting at 1:40 he presents a cut-scene. GTA Vice City protagonist Tommy Vercetti leaves the police station, a certain girl is waiting in the car, and then the camera pans to a mysterious pair of observers in a yellow car. A chase ensues and then the action moves to the Malibu » where the shootout starts. Subsequently, Tommy leaves with the girl, but not far. As a result of the accident, he dies.

In the process of research, it was possible to establish that all this, judging by the dialogues, is actually a «staging». Looks like Tommy became the hero of the movie. In this case, the cut-scene is a kind of result of the mission (footage).

Against the Storm Review (Early Version)

Just a few games turned out to be enough to understand that he fell into skillfully placed snares and will not get out of them soon. The Against the Storm project deftly manipulates the minds of strategy lovers with a unique gameplay that immerses you in the world of endless settlement developments and the eternal cataclysm that erases them. Hope only for the invincibility of the Smoldering City and the mercy of the queen.

A love letter to classic horror. Signalis Review

The game from a microscopic team from Germany, thanks to familiar mechanics, is hard not to compare with the legendary Silent Hill and Resident Evil. And the art, similar to the work of revered mangakas, vague borrowings from cult media products and the attention of maestro Guillermo del Toro frankly scream — the developers have prepared an exquisite delicacy. But I won’t try it all.
