Over the last few days we’ve been busy putting Grand Theft Auto 5 to the test against a variety of machines, from the GTX 670 to the PlayStation 4. Now though, it’s the return of the GD Machine 2014.
The GD Machine has been waiting in the wings for a while for a bit new release, but what better time to trot it out than the launch of one of the greatest games of all time — GTA 5. Armed with a GeForce GTX 750 Ti, an Intel i5-4670K processor, and 8GB of system memory, it’s time to see how it fares in our Dying Light benchmarks.
Grand Theft Auto V Benchmarks GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB
As with our previous GTA 5 benchmarks, we gave each setting the full work-out, getting into a high-speed car chase with a bunch of cops involved, as well as being involved in a number of shoot-outs. The average frame rate was taken over the course of three minutes of play at each setting. We tested Grand Theft Auto 5 at three different resolutions and three different graphical quality settings. The resolutions tested were 1280 x 720, 1600 x 900, and 1920 x 1080, while the three different graphics quality settings were Medium, High, and Very High.
Once more FXAA remained on throughout every benchmark, no MSAA was applied. In contrast to the GTX 650 benchmarks however, Texture Quality was raised to High and Very High for the respective benchmarks. This was too much for the GTX 650 but the 750 Ti should be able to handle it fine.
Grand Theft Auto V was benchmarked on an Intel i5-4670K with 8GB RAM and an Nvidia GTX 750 Ti at 1280 x 720, 1600 x 900, and 1980 x 1080 screen resolution
This is without doubt one of the most impressive performances we’ve ever seen for the GeForce GTX 750 Ti. We know from the host of benchmarks we’ve performed (check them all out below) that the 750 Ti performs roughly in line with the PlayStation 4, generally speaking. Sometimes the PS4 nicks it, and oftentimes the 750 Ti outperforms, see The Evil Within for the perfect example.
Here though, the GD Machine 2014 with its GTX 750 Ti absolutely blows away the performance of PS4.
For point of reference, the PlayStation 4 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 roughly equates to High settings, at 1920 x 1080 resolution, and a locked 30 frames per second. Sometimes it takes a few dips, but generally it holds pretty steady. Compare that to those same settings on the 750 Ti however and it’s a whitewash, averaging 75 frames per second. Sure, there’s a few dips here and there, but it was never anything less than a totally smooth experience. For a £100 GPU it’s really hard to argue with the performance on offer here, and goes to show you can get a top-end experience with GTA 5 for a low, low price.
As I said earlier, MSAA was disabled for all of these benchmarks to keep it in line with the current-gen console versions. Prior benches on the 750 Ti also revealed this diminutive graphics card really isn’t equipped for the demands of MSAA, which is a brute-force method of antialiasing only worth utilising if you’ve got excess power spare.
The results speak for themselves, this is fantastic performance across the board and indicative of the quality of Rockstar’s port. Cranking everything up to Very High is the only time you’ll notice the cracks, and the visual benefit really isn’t worth the halving of the frame rate. As in the earlier benchmarks on the GTX 650, GTA 5 is all about the resolution. 1080p is your number one priority in this setup, which players perfectly on High settings. Any lower than this seems a waste of its potential, and you can see at Medium 720p and 900p that the system is absolutely maxing out its frame rate.

The announcement of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti video accelerator in February 2014 was quite a significant event. Although even then it was far from being a flagship video card, but just a budget solution. But the first video accelerator based on the NVIDIA Maxwell microarchitecture, which replaced NVIDIA Kepler and featured much lower power consumption and very good performance. The TDP level of the GeForce GTX 750 Ti was only 60 W, which made it possible to make a quiet video card in a compact size without an additional power connector.
Years go by, and even after 4 years the budget accelerator is still capable of something, which only confirms its success.
And the low price tag in the secondary market allows us to consider it even now as an option for the acquisition of low-cost users.
Let’s take a closer look at how the video card is able to handle the most current games. And in order to bring the conditions for using the GeForce GTX 750 Ti closer to reality, we will test not with an Intel Core i7 processor, but with a 2-core «hyperstump» Intel Pentium G4560.
We tested ZOTAC’s compact and quiet single-fan GeForce GTX 750 Ti. Its graphics processor has 640 CUDA cores, 40 texture and 16 raster units in its structure. In addition, its clock speeds are 1-2% higher than the factory level. It is assisted by 2 GB of GDDR5 memory from Samsung with an effective frequency of 5400 MHz.
The processor is a 2-core 4-thread Intel Pentium G4560 with a clock speed of 3.5 GHz, which was installed on an ASRock h210M-HDS microATX board. The rest of the test stand was selected from the available components, so it definitely does not claim to be the optimal bundle.
The Vinga CL-2001B low-profile LED cooler was used for cooling, which also cooled the components around the processor. But since it is quite large for such a compact motherboard, the usual RAM modules did not fit. Although this is even good, because it allowed us to test the not very popular, but very interesting 8 GB Exceleram DDR4-2800 kit, which consists of two 4 GB sticks. Of course, the motherboard and processor only allowed it to work in DDR4-2400 mode, but in SPD it has a DDR4-2800 XMP profile with an operating voltage of only 1.2 V.
The operating system and disk-intensive games were installed on a GOODRAM Iridium PRO series SSD, and the rest on a 2 terabyte HDD. All this goodness was collected in the Vinga Vision I case and powered by the Vinga VPS-650G unit. And for effective ventilation of the internal space, 120 mm propellers from Segotep were used. You have the right to use any other components from different brands.
Both current novelties and hits of past years were used for the test.
All games were run in Full HD, so if you have a monitor with a lower resolution, then the speed performance will be even higher.
Let’s start with simpler projects. In DOTA 2 , you can play without problems with maximum graphics settings, enjoying a comfortable frame rate: an average of 91 FPS with drawdowns up to 75. Even in the event of a collision of several pumped heroes, there should be no problems, although there are lower settings in stock.
In Dying Light with high textures, a number of effects had to be disabled to reduce the load on RAM, because 2 GB of the video buffer was not enough. As a result, the processor and video card were loaded heavily, and unpleasant peaks slipped on the frame time graph, but in general you can play: the average speed was 51 FPS, and the minimum did not fall below 36.
At low settings Fallout 4 looks scary, so we switched to the middle preset.
And here it all depends on the view of the world: if you look at settlements from a height, then the speed drops to the console level of 30 FPS. And if you wander through narrow lanes with a minimum draw distance, then we run into vertical synchronization. Therefore, on average, we received 43 frames / s with a drawdown of up to 31.
First launch of World of Tanks passed with the maximum graphics preset, which provided a beautiful picture and decent video sequence speed — an average of 55 FPS with drawdowns up to 46. move to fix the target. On slower vehicles or on artillery, you are unlikely to feel them.
Alternatively, drop down to a high profile. The quality of the graphics does not suffer much from this, but the frame rate goes into the range of 60-100 FPS, the frame time graph becomes smoother, and the control is not satisfactory.
Fans of War Thunder will also have no problems running their favorite toy with the maximum graphics preset.
The speed of the video sequence was in the range of 50-75 FPS, and the Frame Time graph was quite even. We did not experience any problems with management. That is, you can not even go to lower presets.
Traditionally for CS : GO we create the most difficult conditions by choosing the mode with bots on the Nuke map. And we set the settings to a minimum, because in the game of 2012 there is no need to expect a special quality of graphics. The average speed was 146 FPS, and the minimum did not fall below 83. In a multiplayer game, the performance will be even higher.
For Quake Champions , medium graphics settings have been selected to provide an optimal balance between the visual quality of the virtual world and the comfort of the gameplay. The minimum frequency was 40 frames / s, and the maximum — 66 FPS. The controls were responsive, as evidenced by the reasonably smooth frame time graph.
