Rockstar Games have officially announced GTA Online Los Santos Drug Wars, the next GTA Online DLC along with its release date. This was also accompanied with a fantastic piece of key art for the update as shown above.

Los Santos Drug Wars update release date

This new major content update is a two-parter and the first section of the story will drop on Tuesday 13th December according to their latest newswire post. Coming to all platforms currently supported by new GTA Online updates, you’ll be hitting up Blaine County for this new chapter in the story of GTA Online. This means all players on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC will get this update.

DLC description

Rockstar’s description of the new story content is as follow:

“Head straight to Blaine County and join up with old pal Nervous Ron and a new band of out-of-state misfits on a mission to put their stamp on the Los Santos psychedelics trade. Fight off an unlikely coalition of wealthy hippies and trigger-happy bikers while cooking up potent hallucinogenics — in elaborate labs or out of your own massive rolling chemistry set — in the opening chapter of an expansive new two-part story update for GTA Online.

This screenshot shows us ray traced reflections in the puddle next to the taxi.

Caution: Los Santos Drug Wars contains a range of wild side effects, including a new business enterprise to operate, new vehicles and missions, and experiential upgrades. And this is just the first dose — be prepared for lots more exciting events, including some jolly holiday hijinks, significant story and gameplay updates, and much more to come.”

What is that “much more to come”? We shall hopefully find out soon…

Improvements to gameplay alongside new content

This information on the new content comes just days after Rockstar reiterated their commitment to listening to player feedback and and how this December update will add a wide range of new improvements to Freemode and beyond. Below are some highlights of the changes made to GTA Online in the December update.

General Improvements Highlights

Get to your favorite iFruit Contacts faster — select which Contacts to display or hide via the Interaction Menu.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will add ray-traced reflections — rendering real-time reflections on many surfaces — via the Fidelity Mode graphics setting.

Vehicle Updates Highlights

New vehicle purchases will arrive in your Garage faster than before.
Select Custom Weaponized Vehicles can now be used in Races, where appropriate — weapons will be disabled outside of GTA Races.
Players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can enjoy full access to Hao’s Special Works without needing to complete Hao’s introductory race.

Economy Updates Highlights

Completing Vehicle Cargo Sell Missions in Public Sessions will award a High Demand Bonus, bringing this in line with all other business activities, while payouts on Smuggler’s Sell Missions will be permanently tripled.

Coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on December 13th.

Los Santos Drug Wars, the next major content update for GTA Online, was confirmed by Rockstar Games last week and will be released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Tuesday, December 13th at 3AM PT / 6AM ET / 11AM GMT.

The DLC expansion for GTA Online will be completely free-to-play, and will simply require players to download a new patch update at the aforementioned time to jump into all of the new content Los Santos Drug Wars has to offer. According to Rockstar, the update will be the first of an «expansive new two-part story update for GTA Online». Exactly when the second chapter of the update will be released has yet to be confirmed, but it’s highly unlikely to be before the end of the year.

Not only is the new update set to introduce a range of new gameplay improvements, events, vehicles, and more, but GTA+ members will also receive some exclusive benefits when Los Santos Drug Wars releases later this week. According to the studio’s latest newswire post, GTA+ members will «enjoy an all new event period filled with exclusive benefits, including special perks in Los Santos Drug Wars».

As part of the exclusive GTA+ benefits in Los Santos Drug Wars, subscribers of the monthly service will receive 1.5X GTA$ and RP during the new missions included in the DLC, as well as the ability to install the new acid lab for free, something non-subscribers will have to pay for. The acid lab will also have a 50% production speed boost through the membership event period.

Rockstar states that there is also new and exclusive festive apparel coming with the new GTA+ membership event period, which begins on December 13th with the launch of the new GTA Online DLC, Los Santos Drug Wars. Don’t worry if you’re not a member though, as there’s still plenty of new content arriving in the new update. As confirmed by Rockstar Games, players can expect the following changes to arrive in Los Santos Drug Wars:

General Improvements

Get to your favorite iFruit Contacts faster — select which Contacts to display or hide via the Interaction Menu.
The Benefactor Terrorbyte can be used to launch Business Sell Missions in all Session types, including Invite-only Sessions.
Take on Agatha’s Casino Story Missions as a solo operator by visiting the Management Office of The Diamond Casino & Resort (these missions previously required at least 2 players).
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will add ray-traced reflections — rendering real-time reflections on many surfaces — via the Fidelity Mode graphics setting.

Vehicle Updates

New vehicle purchases will arrive in your Garage faster than before.
Select Custom Weaponized Vehicles can now be used in Races, where appropriate — weapons will be disabled outside of GTA Races.
Bicycles will be added to the list of vehicles that can be requested from your Personal Garage when calling the Mechanic.
Players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can enjoy full access to Hao’s Special Works without needing to complete Hao’s introductory race.

Get more of what you want faster with an across-the-board increase in the GTA$ value of all Shark Cards. Starting today, all Shark Card denominations have been boosted by 20–25% when purchased directly in GTA Online or via any of the platform stores. For special GTA+ Member Shark Cards, this is on top of the current 15% bonus GTA$.

Further details on the new update are expected to be shared once Los Santos Drug Wars releases on December 13th.

According to a Tez2 insider, Rockstar Games will update Grand Theft Auto 6 with single-player DLCs after release.

According to an insider, Rockstar is going back to the original post-release content strategy that was canceled for GTA V due to the meteoric success of GTA Online .

«The first wave of new cities and missions that we get as DLC will definitely be planned before the release of GTA VI, and Rockstar will be able to direct resources to a new game that they will work on after the release of GTA VI.»

«In terms of new cities, I think most of them will be instances of new cities or islands. Like Cayo Perico or North Yankton. So Rockstar will be able to introduce a new heist for the next iteration of GTA Online with every DLC. If with luck, from time to time we could get a full-fledged new city.» nine0003

Rockstar has yet to share any specific details about GTA 6, except that the project is in development and that the studio is about to set a new bar for the entire industry.
