Availability

Steam keys no longer activate the game.[3] Use c1-launcher to work around this activation problem.[4]
Steam keys can’t be activated on Origin.[5]
Steam keys will work on retail copies.[citation needed]
A faithful higher resolution desktop icon can be downloaded from the Files section.

Version differences

The Special Edition contains a soundtrack CD, a concept art mini-book, and a Bonus Features disc.
The Maximum Edition contains both Crysis and Crysis Warhead.[6]
The Steam version only includes the 32-bit files, see 64-bit binaries.

Demo

A demo is available.

Essential improvements

Patches

The latest game version for Crysis is 1. 2.1 (Mirror).[7] It requires patch 1.2 (Mirror) first. The patches are for the retail version only.
Digital versions show version 1.1.1.6156, which is not a listed file version, however, it is equivalent to that of Patch 1.21.

64-bit binaries

The 64-bit binaries allow the game to run as a native 64-bit application.
If the Steam version is being used and the Steam overlay does not work, set the 64-bit executable to launch by default.
The GOG.com and Origin versions ship with the 64-bit binaries.[8]

Improved executables

c1-launcher project is an open-source replacement of the game executables. It improves over both the original 32-bit and 64-bit binaries by fixing certain issues and providing some additional features.

Launch 64-bit executable by default on Steam

Necessary if using 64-bit binaries, improved executables, or the 64-bit executable from Crysis Warhead.
Use the "<path-to-game>\Bin64\Crysis.exe" %command% command line argument.

Skip intro videos

Skip company logos[9]

Field of view (FOV)

This game uses vertical FOV. See FOV Calculator for help.
Edit configuration files[citation needed]
  1. Create a System.cfg file in <path-to-game> with a text editor.
  2. Add the lines con_restricted = 0 and cl_fov = XX, with XX being the desired FOV value.

Anisotropic filtering (AF)

Crysis disables AF by default as the engine does not support using anisotropic filtering with parallax occlusion mapping. This mod allows the engine to use AF and POM simultaneously.
Install the POM+AF mod to allow anisotropic filtering[14]
  1. Download the POM+AF mod from here.
  2. Copy zz_GlobalAmbientLighting_pom_Af.pak to <path-to-game>\Game.
  3. Force anisotropic filtering in the graphics card control panel.

Anti-aliasing (AA)

Disable FSAA[citation needed]
  1. Create a System.cfg file in <path-to-game> with a text editor.
  2. Add the lines con_restricted = 0 and r_UseEdgeAA = 0 to it.

Depth of field

Disable depth of field[citation needed]
  1. Create a System. cfg file in <path-to-game> with a text editor.
  2. Add the lines con_restricted = 0 and r_depthoffield = 0 to it.

Disable black bars in cutscenes

Disable black bars in cutscenes for a better ultrawide experience[15]
  1. Create a System.cfg file in <path-to-game> with a text editor.
  2. Add the line con_restricted = 0 and hud_panoramicHeight = 0 to it.

Input

In-game key map settings.

In-game gamepad settings.

Mouse acceleration

Enable mouse acceleration[citation needed]
  1. Open the console with the tilde (~) key.
  2. Enter con_restricted = 0 to enable all console commands.
  3. Enter i_mouse_accel = 1 to enable mouse acceleration.
  4. Enter i_mouse_accel_max = XXX with XXX being a number bigger than 0 to set the acceleration amount (the default value is 100).

Hold to aim

Modify config files[16]
  1. Open the following file in a text editor:
    • %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles\default\actionmaps.xml
  2. Find the zoom action. Replace mouse2 with a key that is not needed.
    • <action name="zoom" onPress="1" onRelease="1">
    • <key name="mouse2"/> — change mouse2 to 9 or something else that’s out of the way.
  3. Navigate to the xi_zoom action. Put the mouse2 key here.
    • <action name="xi_zoom" onPress="1" onRelease="1">
    • <key name="mouse2"/>
  4. Save the changes. Make a backup first if desired.
  5. Create a file named System.cfg in <path-to-game>.
  6. Add the following lines to it:
    • con_restricted = 0
    • hud_ctrlzoommode = 1
  7. Save the file.

Toggle crouch

Modify config files[citation needed]
  1. Open the console with the tilde (~) key.
  2. Enter con_restricted = 0 to enable all console commands.
  3. Enter cl_crouchToggle = 1 to enable crouch toggle.

Controller remapping

Edit/Replace ActionMaps.xml[17]
  1. Download the updated controller profile.
  2. Paste and replace downloaded actionmaps.xml file into %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles\default.
This improves gamepad controls by utilizing a control scheme closer to Crysis 2 and 3.

Audio

In-game audio settings.

Enable 3D audio mixing

Use DSOAL with modifications to System.cfg[19]
  1. Extract DSOAL to <path-to-game>\Bin32 or <path-to-game>\Bin64 according to the executable of choice and configure the INI files as desired.
  2. If using the 64-bit executable, extract the files contained within the included 64-bit.zip file to <path-to-game>\Bin64 as well, overwriting any files.
  3. Open System.cfg in <path-to-game> with a text editor.
  4. Copy and paste these commands into the file:
    con_restricted = 0
    s_HRTF_DSP = 1
    s_SoundMoodsDSP = 1
    s_reverbtype = 1

  5. Save the file and launch the game.

Notes

Windows 10 users additionally may have to tweak a registry setting as described in this guide for DSOAL to work.

Localizations

Korean soldiers speak Korean on the hardest difficulty (Delta), whereas they speak the same language as all other characters on all other difficulties. When the console is unrestricted, it is possible to have them speak Korean on lower difficulties by setting ai_UseAlternativeReadability to 0. [20]
To change the language in the GOG version, use the language_setup.exe tool located in <path-to-game>.[21]

Issues fixed

Hangs on startup

Run the 64-bit version of the game[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\Bin64.
  2. Launch crysis.exe to play the 64-bit version of the game.
If the game still doesn’t work, run it in Vista SP2 compatibility mode.
Steam
The game ships without 64-bit binaries on Steam, but the Crysis Warhead files can be used on it.[22]
Use 64-bit executable from Crysis Warhead
  1. Backup Bin32 inside the Crysis directory.
  2. Copy Bin64 from Crysis Warhead to <path-to-game>.
  3. Rename Bin64 to Bin32 or set the game to launch 64-bit executable by default on Steam.
  4. Remove Crysis.exe from the former Bin64 folder.
  5. Rename Crysis64.exe to Crysis.exe.

Notes

Also works using Steam Play/Proton on Linux.
Some users report a more unstable framerate and more frequent stuttering running the game with the 64-bit Crysis Warhead executable.

Crashes on systems with AMD CPUs

Replace CrySystem.dll with a fixed version (32-bit)[23]
  1. Download a fixed CrySystem.dll and extract it.
  2. Move it to <path-to-game>\Bin32 and override the existing file.
Makes the game use SSE/MMX code paths instead of the deprecated 3D Now! instruction paths.
Run the 64-bit version of the game[24]
  1. Additionally, download the following file, extract CrySystem.dll within it to <path-to-game>\Bin64 and override the existing one.
If the 64-bit version crashes, run it in Vista SP2 compatibility mode.

Crash on Fullscreen Toggle

Run the game in DirectX 9[citation needed]
If the «This program has stopped responding» error message appears after changing between fullscreen and windowed, running the game in DirectX 9 mode may solve the issue.

Error 5024

Exit Process Explorer[citation needed]
If the game refuses to launch and ends up with security error 5024, try closing Process Explorer in case it is being used.

No objective after destroying tanks in Recovery

Restart mission or run to end[citation needed]
In the mission «Recovery», there’s a rather common bug where there will be no mission objectives after destroying the two tanks and Psycho and the hostage just hang out in the school building. If that happens, restarting the mission may solve it. Alternatively, manually proceeding to the end of the area and finishing the level can also be done.
To do so, run to the south east of the village. There should be a waterfall. Use the strength augumentation to scale it and follow the river on top (also seen on the map) to the very end. It will be a rather long walk and there should be other waterfalls that have to be jumped up, also there will be several big groups of enemies on the way, so be careful. By following the river yet another waterfall will finally come, which has a large cave to the right of it and should be unmissable. Going into that cave triggers the end of the level.

The way to walk is illustrated here, courtesy of Affenzahn375 from here.

Game uses incorrect refresh rate

The game may set the monitor’s refresh rate to its lowest supported refresh rate when in fullscreen mode, resulting in a lowered frame rate when Vsync is on, and screen tearing or stuttering even if the frame rate is high.
Run the game in DirectX 9[25]
Run the game in windowed or borderless fullscreen mode, in which case the game will use the desktop refresh rate.[26]
Use the improved executables.[citation needed]

Crash to desktop when using MSI Afterburner’s On Screen Display

Config file edit[27]
  1. Open the MSI On-Screen Display Server program (RivaTuner Statistics Server).
  2. Click the plus sign (or newly «add» button), navigate to <path-to-game> and add Crysis.exe.
  3. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\RivaTuner Statistics Server\Profiles.
  4. Edit Crysis.exe.cfg.
  5. Change EnableDynamicOffsetDetection=0 to EnableDynamicOffsetDetection=1.
  6. Change HookDirectDraw=0 to HookDirectDraw=1.

Crashes when saving, loading, or starting a level

Lower the graphics settings or resolution.[citation needed]

Low performance (Linux)

Steam Play/Proton
By default, Proton will use ESync to synchronize game threads. This does not work well with Crysis.
Disable ESync[28]

Add as a Launch option PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%.

Lutris/Wine
By default, Lutris Wine builds will use ESync to synchronize game threads. This does not work well with Crysis.
Disable ESync[29]
  1. Open up the game configuration dialog.
  2. Navigate to Runner Options.
  3. Turn Enable Esync to off.

Console commands

The console can be opened with the tilde (~) key, but the available commands are limited. This limitation can be bypassed by the con_restricted = 0 command or by adding -devmode to the game’s shortcut. A thorough list of console commands can be found here.
This won’t work on many non-English keyboard layouts.
Instead of re-entering console commands every time the game starts, a System. cfg file can be created in <path-to-game> to apply console commands automatically. The commands need to be formatted differently in the file, using an equal sign instead of a space. For example, to change the FOV to 80, cl_fov = 80 has to be used rather than «cl_fov 80» like in the console.

Persistent corpses

By default, dead enemy bodies disappear after a short amount of time.
Increase corpse persistence time[31]
  1. Enable all console commands by adding con_restricted = 0 command to System.cfg in <path-to-game>.
  2. Set a high g_ragdollmintime value, such as g_ragdollmintime = 10000.

Weapon carry limit

By default, it is possible to carry two guns in the assault category.
Disable the limitation[32]
  1. Start the game in developer mode by adding -devmode command line argument.
  2. Enable all console commands by adding con_restricted = 0 command to System.cfg in <path-to-game>.
  3. Add line i_noweaponlimit = 1.

Run in DirectX 9

Running in DirectX 9 resolves issues with letterboxing or windowboxing if game is run in smaller than native resolution.
Performance may vary. Older cards, especially AMD, run significantly faster but newer cards (both AMD and Nvidia) might run slightly slower in DirectX 9.
Use the -dx9 command line argument[citation needed]

Mods

Notes

  1. 1.01.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/17300/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (17300) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.

When starting the game, it asks for an activation key that is already pre-entered by the game (one that is used by Steam. ) When trying to activate it (pressing ‘Done) it keeps asking the user to re-enter the key whatever you do. Even adding «-» between every 4 characters doesn’t fix this. This results in the game refusing to start.

Issues fixed[edit]

TweakGuides has created a comprehensive guide for fixing issues in this game. It can be found here. If you are experiencing crashes while changing graphical or controller options, try disabling your Anti-Virus software, if you have AVG or Norton 360, this is most likely the cause of the crashing. In AVG you can add an exception by going to Advanced Options > Add Exception then navigate to %USERPROFILE%DocumentsMy GamesCrysis and add the exception this will fix the problem without having to disable your anti-virus.

Hangs on startup[edit]

Run the 64-bit version of the game[citation needed]

If you still can’t get the game working, run it in Vista SP2 compatibility mode.

Game crashes on machines with AMD CPUs[edit]

Replace CrySystem.dll with fixed one (32-bit)[10]

  1. Download a fixed CrySystem.dll and extract it.
  2. Move it to <path-to-game>Bin32 and override existing one.

Alternatively — Run the 64-bit version of the game[11]

  1. If 64bit version also crashes, try downloading following fix and extracting it.
  2. Move extracted CrySystem.dll to <path-to-game>Bin64 and override existing one.

Crash on Fullscreen Toggle[edit]

Run in DirectX 9[citation needed]

If you get an error saying ‘This program has stopped responding’ after changing between fullscreen and windowed, force DX9 mode to solve the issue.

Crash when using MSI Afterburner’s On Screen Display[edit]

Config file edit[12]

  1. Open the MSI On-Screen Display Server program (RivaTuner Statistics Server).
  2. Click the plus sign (or newly ‘add’ button) and navigate to where you installed Crysis and add Crysis.exe
  3. Once you have that added go to C:Program Files (x86)RivaTuner Statistics ServerProfiles
  4. Edit Crysis.exe.cfg
  5. Change EnableDynamicOffsetDetection=0 to EnableDynamicOffsetDetection=1
  6. Change HookDirectDraw=0 to HookDirectDraw=1

Error 5024[edit]

Exit Process Explorer

Game will not launch at all and ends up with security error 5024. You are probably running Process Explorer so turn it off and game will launch OK.

No objective after destroying tanks in Recovery[edit]

Restart mission or run to end[citation needed]

In the mission ‘Recovery’, there’s a rather common bug where you’ll get no objectives after destroying the two tanks and Psycho and the hostage just hang out in the school building. If that happens, you can restart the mission. If that doesn’t fix it or if you rather don’t, you can manually proceed to the end of the area and finish the level, it isn’t too long anymore and you should not miss out on vital bits.

To do so, run to the south east of the village. There should be a waterfall. Use the strength augumentation to scale it and follow the river on top (also seen on the map) to the very end. It will be a rather long walk and you’ll come across other waterfalls that you have to jump up, also there will be several big groups of enemies on the way, so be careful. Just always follow the river and you will finally come to yet another waterfall, which has a large cave to the right of it (you can’t miss it). Going into that cave triggers the end of the level and you’ll proceed to the next mission where everything will work as usual.

The way to walk is illustrated here, courtesy of Affenzahn375 from here.

Run the game at screen refresh rate[edit]

Crysis may set your monitor’s refresh rate to its lowest supported refresh rate, resulting in a lowered FPS when Vsync is on, and heavy screen stuttering even if FPS is high.

Run in DirectX 9[13]

Create an arbitrary custom resolution in Nvidia Control Panel (i. e. 1921 x 1080) and set the game at that resolution.

Run the game in borderless fullscreen mode, in which case the game will use your desktop refresh rate.

Game is shifted to the right on the screen/runs in 59Hz mode/wrong refresh rate[edit]

Change refresh rate — automate with QRes[citation needed]

You can change your refresh rate manually each time you open and close the game.

OR

You can automate this with QRes:

  • Download QRes from Softpedia or Software.Informer
  • Extract QRes.exe into the Crysis Bin64 or Bin32 folder depending on whether you’re using the 64-bit or 32-bit executable
  • Open Notepad
  • Copy and paste:
  • Go to File and then Save As…
  • Name it Crysis.bat, and then change Save as type from .txt to All Files
  • Save into the same Bin64 or Bin32 folder
  • Right-click Crysis.bat and click Create shortcut
  • Move this shortcut to wherever is easiest, say the desktop, replacing the original shortcut
  • Right-click the shortcut, click Properties, click Change icon, click Browse, navigate to the same Bin64 or Bin32 folder, select Crysis. exe, and click OK twice
  • When you run this using the new shortcut, your screen will flash off and on again, shifted to one side. Press the Auto button or equivalent on your monitor to realign the screen before the game starts
  • When you exit the game, wait a few seconds, the screen will flash again, the command window will close, and you can press the Auto again

Middleware[edit]

MiddlewareNotesAudioFMODFMOD EX 3[14]MultiplayerGameSpyAnti-cheatPunkBuster

Console commands[edit]

The console can be opened with ~, but the available commands are limited. This limitation can be bypassed by the con_restricted=0 command or by adding -devmode to the game’s shortcut. A thorough list of console commands can be found here.

Crysis Patch 1.2 Windows 10

Instead of re-entering console commands every time the game starts, the file <path-to-game>system.cfg can be created to apply console commands automatically. The commands need to be formatted differently in the file, using an equal sign instead of a space. For example, to change the FOV to 80 you would use cl_fov=80 rather than ‘cl_fov 80’ like in the console.

Weapon carry limit[edit]

By default you can carry two guns in the assault category.

Disable the limitation[15]

  1. Start the game in developer mode by adding -devmodecommand line argument.
  2. Enable all console commands by adding con_restricted 0 command to System.cfg file in the installation folder (create if the file doesn’t exist).
  3. Add line i_noweaponlimit=1.

Disappearing bodies[edit]

By default dead enemies disappear after a short delay.

Increase the delay[16]

  1. Enable all console commands by adding con_restricted 0 command to System. cfg file in the installation folder (create if the file doesn’t exist).
  2. Set higher g_ragdollmintime= value, such as g_ragdollmintime=10000.

Run in DirectX 9[edit]

Running in DirectX 9 resolves issues with letterboxing or windowboxing if game is run in smaller than native resolution. Performance varies; older cards, especially AMD, run significantly faster but newer cards (both AMD and Nvidia) run slightly slower in DirectX 9.

Use -dx9parameter[citation needed]

Solved: CRYSIS 1 won’t run on windows 7 64 bit

July 2016

— last change

July 2016

Well, I solved the problem with CRYSIS WARS, now the turn has come CRYSIS 1 (2007) order 1. 2 (the game version became 6115) and the last patch 1.2.1 (the game version became 6156) and Most importantly, the bin64 folder appeared where the CRYSIS.exe executable was inside to run under 64-bit OS. Those. in the folder with the game in the idea there should be two folders: bin64 (to run on 64 bit OS) and bin32 (to run on 32 bit OS)

So I bought CRYSIS 1 in origin, downloaded it and there is only a bin32 folder, respectively, with a 32-bit executable to run on a 32-bit OS, and there is NO bin64 folder! If you run the game from this bin32 folder from the executable that is there, then a black screen appears and then the game crashes «CRYSIS program has stopped working» (SEE SCREEN1)

I tried to install patches in anticipation that the bin64 folder would appear (I did this in CRYSIS WARS and when there was a disk with CRYSIS 1) in order, first 1.1, then 1.2 and 1.2.1 (patches downloaded from the official website of the developer: http://www. crytek.com/games/crysis/overview/download But they are put for some reason, here is what it gives out during the installation process: «the service pack cannot be installed because the program being updated is missing, or the service pack is intended for a different version of this program» (SM SCREEN2) Moreover, I tried to install the patches in order and in discord, in general, in different ways, there is no effect. The most interesting thing is that I already played CRYSIS 1 on this computer when I had a game disc, but just a month ago it got corrupted and installation from it is no longer possible.

HERE THE QUESTION: how to run CRYSIS 1 under 64 bit windows 7? I don’t understand EA’s negligent attitude towards its customers, don’t you have programmers who will add the bin64 folder to the download in the origin and make sure that the game downloads the latest version, this is just a boorish attitude towards the players, any normal programmer will do this in a couple of days, but no, EA stubbornly continues to sell games that require dancing with a tambourine, but just make sure that the bin64 folder is also downloaded when the game is downloaded . ..

P.S.

Tried to install both in C:\Program Files (x86) and on drive D — no effect

Also encountered this problem: 8 people.

January 2017

Since they couldn’t help me anywhere (for example, in the American live chat, they answered all my questions that the game is old and its support has been discontinued, and if it doesn’t start on my PC, then nothing can be done about it, in short, they kicked it off)

But I did find a solution on the Internet.

1) Ideally, the game should run in 32-bit version from the bin32 executable , but it turns out that not all processors support this feature. The game was originally sharpened for intel (which can be seen from the splash screen at startup — core 2 duo)

And in general, it works with intel processors, but people who have AMD FX series (FX 4100, FX 4300, FX 6300 and td) have problems running from the bin32 folder. nine0003

2) The game bought on the DVD box during installation had a bin64 folder in the game files, in the origin the game is downloaded without this folder, why EA decided this way, I don’t know.

3) Who has an AMD FX 6300 processor or another similar processor like mine, you need to download the bin64 folder with game files and put it in the game folder along the origin \ Crysis path and, accordingly, launch the game from the executable from this folder.

Not all the bin64 folders I found on the Internet that I tried to download and throw into the game folder brought an effect, but this one definitely worked: I uploaded it to Google Drive

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2i3pZ7j0NfFdFJoNFhmSFNwa0k/view?usp=sharing

And by the way, the version of the game is already downloading patched with the latest patch 1.2.1 (this is version 6156 , so I could not install patches)

P.S.

You can view the version of the game in the game menu at startup in the lower right corner of the screen (see screenshot 1)0003

If someone needs patches, they can be downloaded from the developer’s website http://www. crytek.com/games/crysis/overview/download

(initially comes CRYSIS version 5767 , all three patch in order and it turns out CRYSIS version 6156 , if by some chance you have CRYSIS version 6115 — this is the version with patch 1.2, then just install CRYSIS patch 1.2.1 before the final version 6156)

ALSO IN WINDOWS 7 TO LAUNCH CRYSIS 1 DO NOT FORGET TO SET COMPATIBILITY WITH VISTA SP2 (RIGHT CLICK ON THE LABEL — PROPERTIES — COMPATIBILITY) — THIS STEP IS REQUIRED OR THE GAME WILL NOT WORK! nine0006

And by the way, even after the closure of GAMESPY, the ONLINE CRYSIS 1 multiplayer continues to live, for this you just need to download a patch weighing 5 megabytes and register in the game http://crymp.net/ (download the patch from this site, fans have created their own emulator with many features, for example, autoloading maps like in CRYSIS WARS, etc.)

On 07/05/2016 there are 26/30 servers in the game that work every day

Only the version of your game should be 6156

Maybe it helped someone)

I could be wrong, but as far as I know, each version of the game needs its own .exe file, you have the game version 6115, and folder bin64 with game files (including with . exe files, I uploaded from version 6156 (this is the latest version with patch 1.2.1), i.e. you have a version mismatch, you need to install patch 1.2.1 and then just throw folder bin64
