Director Uwe Boll contacted Blizzard about directing the film, but Blizzard refused. As quoted by MTV news Uwe Boll stated: «I got in contact with Paul Sams of Blizzard, and he said, ‘We will not sell the movie rights, not to you… especially not to you. Because it’s such a big online game success, maybe a bad movie would destroy that ongoing income, what the company has with it.»

    Done really well, considering

There were several constraints that the movie had to work with. There was the already established Warcraft mythos and stories, there was the terrible stigma of game adaptations and finally there was the matter of so many main CGI characters that had to look realistic, not like something Pixar or Disney designed. Given that, I was not expecting much.

Yet the movie exceeded all my expectations and gave me hope for the future. The story is something placed at the end of chapter III of the mythos and the beginning of chapter IV. In game, it is the story of Warcraft I, which was another bold move, considering the hordes (heh heh heh) of World of Warcraft players that weren’t even born when that game was published. It pits the peaceful kingdom of Azeroth vs the war clans of the unknown Orc, fleeing from their dying world through a portal fueled by the very thing that destroyed it. A half human, half orc girl is instrumental in providing information about who the Orcs are, what they want and how they have reached the kingdom.

Characters were well developed, graphics were good, the script had few holes and the mature story was clearly well smoothed out. The only problem one could have is that it’s just the first part in many, with the main conflict point resolved, but none for the character story lines.

Actors came from all kinds of TV series, Vikings, Preacher and Legends of Tomorrow to name a few. The only predominantly big screen actor out there was Ben Foster. It shows both the direction of cinema and TV blending together (and perhaps with games) and the fear of well established cinema actors getting caught in unsuccessful game adaptations. Perhaps with the success of this and — one may only hope — Assassin’s Creed, things will begin to change.

What should Warcraft 2 be about? Four Warcraft stories worth making a movie

In recent months, there have been increasing rumors in the media that the Warcraft universe is about to return to the movie screens. However, this time around, Legendary Pictures will have to be extra careful in choosing the theme for the film, as the attempt to tell the Warcraft universe in accordance with the chronology of the games failed — the original film did not receive wide recognition. So what does Warcraft 2 need to be about in order to attract both fans and outsiders to theaters? Cybersport.ru has identified four stories from the World of Warcraft world that would be perfect for a sequel.

    Arthas becomes the Lich King

The most obvious option of all. The history of Arthas is the hallmark of the Warcraft universe. The fallen prince of Lordaeron can generally be called one of the most popular video game characters in the 21st century. In addition, other characters familiar to a wide audience are involved in this story — Jaina, Sylvanas, Uther and Kel’Thuzad.

    Arthas Menethil

Warcraft III’s Human Campaign is perfect for a movie adaptation. There is almost everything for this: the tragic transformation of the protagonist under the influence of circumstances, a sad love line, many battles, moral dilemmas about a small evil committed for the sake of good, a turning point and extremely emotionally strong episode with the burning of Stratholme and, of course, a dramatic finale , in which Arthas becomes a slave to Frostmourne. Such a story will appeal even to those who are completely unfamiliar with the world of Warcraft. At the same time, the director can borrow the plot from the campaign of the undead, which will certainly be very pleased with the fans.

By the way, it was the Wrath of the Lich King expansion that had the golden age of World of Warcraft. It was then that the game had the largest increase in users who wanted to meet the hero of their childhood again and have a hand in his overthrow from the Frozen Throne.

Only the selection of actors can become a problem for the studio. The original Warcraft movie showed a story from the first part of the strategy, the images of many of whose heroes have long been erased from the memory of the players. Today, you can find out what King Llane Wrynn looked like only in Stormwind thanks to one of the statues, so the fans had more loyal cast requirements. In the story with Arthas, everything is different, because it involves a whole galaxy of important and familiar characters to the players. However, if the studio is ready to invest in a cast that fits in as well as possible, then the film will have every chance to repeat the success of the cult strategy and win the hearts of fans.

    Illidan vs. Everyone

Despite the fact that in some places the storylines of Illidan and the Lich King intersect, the figure of the main demon hunter of all Azeroth is worthy of a separate film — perhaps not even one. The picture can be based on different periods from the life of Illidan — from the story of his love for Tyrande, a quarrel with his brother, the adoption of demonic power and imprisonment to the fall in the Black Temple at the hands of brave heroes.

    Illidan

Illidan followed a path similar to Arthas’s, the result of which, given the addition of Legion, turned out to be more successful. In Legion, we were shown why our own people turned their backs on the elf; in Warcraft III, another Illidan appeared before us, overwhelmed with rage and hatred both for his captors and for the demons of the Burning Legion.

The events of The Burning Crusade could have been key to the film. However, to illuminate them not only from the side of the heroes of Azeroth, as was the case in the WoW add-on, in which Illidan was presented as a traitor who captured Outland and established strange connections with demons, but also from the side of the demon hunter himself — this has already been done in the novel Illidan and the Legion expansion. In this context, the image of an elf becomes one of the most controversial and tragic in the history of Warcraft.

Illidan’s story arc includes many other famous characters in the universe, from the prophet Velen to Kael’thas. Illidan is probably still inferior to Arthas in popularity, but this gap is not so great. In the end, one phrase “You are not ready!” enough in the trailer for millions of fans to get old school and rush to book tickets.

Thrall’s rise and the Battle of Mount Hyjal

Thrall’s childhood as a human prisoner, his falling in love, his rise as a person, and the subsequent riot in Lord Blackmoore’s stronghold with the destruction of an orc concentration camp are not the most famous events in Warcraft history. They are described mainly in official books and comics. However, unlike the story taken for the first Warcraft movie, this arc features the favorite of all Horde fans — Thrall. A more famous orc in the Warcraft universe simply does not exist.

    Thrall

Through Thrall, you can show the path of the Horde, the journey across the sea to Kalimdor, and the building of Orgrimmar. The story of his difficult relationship with Jaina, important for the lore, which was overshadowed by the battle of Thrall with her father, as well as the destruction of Theramore (although this will be much later), fits perfectly here. In addition, all this was shown in Warcraft III, so it should be close to a wider audience of gamers. The apogee of the story may be the battle for Mount Hyjal, in which the combined forces of the Horde and the night elves were able to cope with the invasion of the demons of the Burning Legion and kill their leader Archimonde, having defended the world tree Nordrassil. Here you have epic battles, interracial showdowns, and several key characters for the universe at once. And besides them — hordes of demons, familiar locations and, of course, cute night elves and fireflies. That’s who was missing in the first film!

    Welcome to Northrend

Arthas’ story can be told in reverse order, starting with Wrath of the Lich King. In this add-on, literally all of Azeroth went to Northrend to take revenge on the traitor prince. Through flashbacks and dialogue, one can reveal the motivation of Jaina, who still hopes to find the remnants of humanity in Arthas, or Sylvanas, who only wants revenge for the destruction of her people.

This way of narration will probably leave enough questions for people who are not familiar with the Warcraft universe, but for fans of the series it will be interesting to look at familiar events from this angle. At the same time, those who stopped at the third part of the strategy and did not go to WoW will be curious to see what Arthas was like as the lord of the Scourge, because he did not waste time in vain! Particular attention in this film should be paid to the psychology of the character and how the Lich King got rid of the humanity within himself and drowned out the voices of those who tried to influence his personality.

    The Lich King

In addition, the filmmakers will have at their disposal the whole continent of Northrend, which was perfectly worked out in Wrath of the Lich King. If you canonically follow the plot of the add-on, then there will be a place for both the Old Gods and the vrykul with their incredibly beautiful Howling Fjord, and instead of the faceless forests familiar to the audience of the first part, after landing at Icecrown, the heroes will make their way through the picturesque Grizzly Hills.

All famous characters will be involved in this story. Moreover, the lines of not only the main characters, but also secondary ones, such as Varok Saurfang, who will lose here the son of Dranosh, who fell at the hands of Arthas, the paladin Bolvar and many others, can become interesting.

What scenes from the Warcraft universe do you think would be suitable for film adaptation?

Warcraft 2 release date of the film when it will be released in Russia

The premiere of the first film took place in May 2016. Presumably, the release date of Warcraft 2 (Warcraft) in Russia may take place on December 5, 2023. However, the official announcement of the second part of the film has not yet been made. In the summer of 2018, the director of the project, Duncan Jones, posted information on his Twitter that the chances of making a sequel to the film are negligible. Such news plunged the fans of the film into shock, since the first part was a huge success.

You can see the release date of the Warcraft 2 movie in Russia and the trailer at the very bottom of our article.

    Plot

Leading specialists from the USA, Canada, China and Japan worked on the creation of the first part of the film. The best screenwriters, virtuoso make-up artists, programmers and costume designers were invited to the film crew. Thanks to the combination of high-quality makeup and computer graphics, all the characters and the environment in the film turned out to be as realistic as possible.

The plot of the fantastic action movie was created based on the popular computer game «Warcraft». This is a strategic gameplay, the key characters of which are the human race, fighting orcs and resisting magic.

The first episode of the film tells about the peaceful centuries-old life of people after the victory over the orc race. The life of mankind was calm and carefree until the forces of darkness, which had grown stronger during a long sleep, awakened. The strength and power of the orcs are not able to withstand even high walls and magic. Is there any hope of victory in this age-old battle, or will humanity fall this time? Millions of viewers are waiting for the release of the Warcraft 2 tape to find out how the battle between the forces of evil and good will end.

The first part of the film justified the hopes of the fans of the game for impeccable graphics quality and impressive special effects. The creators of the project spent a lot of effort and money to be able to broadcast the picture in different formats of the work.

The second part of a fantastic action movie should not be inferior in quality to the first. The popularity of the World of Warcraft virtual game directly depends on its success.

Fans are left wondering if Warcraft 2 will be shown. So far, there have been no official announcements about the filming of part 2.
