Melting Zombie Ice in Greenland Will Raise Sea Level 10.6 Inches

During the good old days in Greenland, endless ice seemed a permanent part of the landscape—but its future is destined to look much different. The warming power of climate change is enough to chip away at chunks of frozen ice sheets called “doomed ice” and “zombie ice” that will melt and raise the global sea level by at least 10.6 inches, according to a study published Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change.

Lying mostly within the Arctic Circle, a frozen ice sheet has enveloped the vast majority of Greenland for 18 million years. Ice covers an area of about 1,380 miles by 680 miles, at about 5,000 feet thick. While this melting zombie ice is still attached to thicker areas of ice, there is no longer enough snow falling to allow “parent glaciers” to feed it and keep it frozen. An estimated 120 trillion tons of ice will be affected, meaning 3.3 percent of Greenland’s total ice sheet is expected to melt away into the sea.

The released water will raise the global sea level by more than double the previous estimates. To put that into perspective, it’s hypothetically enough melt to cover the entire continental U.S. with 37 feet of water—and while that isn’t the actual predicted scenario, it’s a sobering figure.

“It’s dead ice. It’s just going to melt and disappear from the ice sheet,” study co-author William Colgan, a glaciologist at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, says in an interview with AP News. “This ice has been consigned to the ocean, regardless of what climate (emissions) scenario we take now. ” The ice is “starving” for snow, he added.

Study lead author Jason Box, a Greenland survey glaciologist, called the situation “more like one foot in the grave.” This is the first time a minimum ice loss has been calculated for Greenland, along with a corresponding sea level rise. The study reported no predicted date for this sea level rise, but the authors wrote that it could happen “within this century.”

Last year’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report projected that Greenland ice melt would raise the sea level between two to five inches by 2100. The new 10.6-inch calculation is a global average prediction. That means places farther away from Greenland would be more inundated with water than areas closer to the zombie ice, such as the U. S. East Coast, the study explains. (Some areas in the U.S. are more vulnerable than others, like the Louisiana coastline depicted above.)

While the paper’s authors conclude that 10.6 inches is now inevitable, they warn that the upper estimate of global rising sea level from ice melt in Greenland could be up to 30 inches, leading to even more devastating scenarios.

The National Ocean Service similarly predicts a sea level rise of 10 to 12 inches along the U.S. coastline by 2050. That’s as much as the rise measured over the last 100 years, from 1920 to 2020. The consequence? More severe storms and flooding, and higher tides, according to the agency.

All eyes of the world are looking at this small outpost in the woods. As zombies crawl towards you you need to build and merge towers, upgrade them and prepare the nukes to fight agains evil zombies. Those creatures will tear as apart if we let them across the wall. Be aware of the mutant zombies, cause they can breach the wall and in- danger the human kind. Put more barb wire, spikes and even tyres on the wall to protect us from this evil zombies.

Our army is well trained and some sharpshooters are also on the towers. So don’t be afraid is sometimes towers headshots the zombies.

Fun and addicting, but need more of a challenge.

Ok first of all, this game is really fun. Bonus points for the lack of ads. My only complaints would be that if you upgrade your towers too much the game becomes pretty monotonous. The most upgraded tower I have is level 16 (the rest are between 15-12) and I haven’t had more than 100 wall damage in over 100 levels. I also wish there were more types of zombies. So far I’ve only seen the regular zombies and the “boss” zombies. Also, as the rounds progress there should be a higher number of zombies each round. For the last 100 rounds there’s only been 1210 each round. Lastly, once the boss zombies are gone, the other zombies ONLY come from the bottom left corner so I only have 2 towers that are being used the majority of the match. I’m not sure if that’s how the game was developed of it there is a bug or what. Overall this game is great to play and I’m really enjoying it. I’d just like to see a little bit more in terms of “advancement” as the levels progress. It should get harder to play every round and right now that’s just not the case. I give it an 8/10 as it stands tho! Good work!

Great game!!

I love this game as I love all tower defense games, I just have a couple of suggestions:
1) I wish there was some kind of double-speed button for higher levels, because it gets tedious waiting for the 7000 zombies to crawl slowly towards your towers.
2) I think as you get up to higher levels, like if you get your towers to level 30, there should be an increase in the gems you get as a reward for defeating a wave of zombies. Again, the tedium got to me.
Other than those two things, this game is great, and I will continue to play, although I’ll probably end up walking away from my phone and doing other things for the 5+ minutes it currently takes to get through a single wave. Great design, love the different tower styles!

Little Improvements

So after about a week of playing this game it is quite fun to use to kill some time. I am finding a few things that’s I wish were different though. I feel it takes a very long time just to level your towers. I can spend 30 minutes merging towers and feel like I barely accomplished anything. I have also upgraded my walls through level 4 and the walls themselves have stayed the same material. Wish they would change. After leveling my towers to I believe 9 or so the tower no longer changes looks. When I reach a new tower level it shows an image of what that tower should look like but it still looks like a level 9 tower. I also don’t care for the reliance on the gems. I don’t think it should cost 1 gem for every upgrade when you can only receive one gem per wave. I’d like to be able to save my gems to use for using on my tower leveling. Most of these improvements I suggest are cosmetic but I feel would make a user more invested by seeing how their bases can level.

Zombies 2

Plants in the game are limited to a certain level, usually 10, but there are exceptions when a plant has only 1 level or can be pumped up to 15 or even 20. With each level, the characteristics of plants significantly are growing. But many, having reached the maximum level, lost interest in the game and the developers introduced an additional pumping system. After reaching the maximum level, you can pump the plant further, the characteristics do not grow by much, but there is still an incentive to collect seeds further. As soon as the player promotes a plant to the first master level, an asterisk and a level number will appear in the upper right corner of the plant icon, starting with the letter «M» instead of «LVL». The asterisk can be bronze, silver and gold, depending on the level of the master.

It is worth noting that not all plants can be pumped to the master level. If a plant has a maximum level of 1, then it cannot have master levels. There are also a number of plants for which the developers did not provide for it, this information can be found on the page of a particular plant.

Depending on the plant, the following characteristics can be increased:

  • Percentage increase in damage. Each level increases the damage by 1%, at the maximum level it is 200%. The damage boost only works on zombies.
  • Health increase. Each level, the plant increases its health by 10 units, at the maximum level it grows to 2000 units.
  • Chance to apply fertilizer when planting. From the first level, the plant gains a 1% chance to use this ability. Further, the chance increases by 1% every 10 levels, up to 21%.
