WORLD OF DEMONS | PlatinumGames Inc. Official WebSite
PlatinumGames is introducing a new exhilarating combat action title, World of Demons.
PlatinumGames thrust players into a fantastical world full of yokai — a class of supernatural monsters and spirits from Japanese folklore.
Players will assume the role of a samurai leading an army of yokai minions as they embark on a mission against evil. The game is set in a beautiful environment inspired by traditional Japanese artwork with gorgeous stages pulled from ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Along the way, they’ll meet samurai allies and a menagerie of yokai, each with their own techniques and combo possibilities. Players will expand their arsenal of abilities to conquer all foes that stand before them, ultimately facing the fearsome Shuten Doji, lord of all oni.
Sharpen your steel as this samurai tale is about to begin.

Mixing, matching, levelling up, and forming strategies across such a massive, Pokemon-like range of monsters to collect and turn into special abilities gives World of Demons a level of depth and strategy that you would never expect at first, given how fast and fluid it is. Factor in the ukiyo-e-inspired art (which, no doubt, will be compared to Okami, but is much more appropriate to this game, given the narrative and visual arts traditions that Hyakki Yagyo belongs to), and a soundtrack that is heavy on the traditional Japanese instruments, and World of Demons is clearly a case of PlatinumGames looking to celebrate traditional Japanese culture and the arts. That is actually something that PlatinumGames hasn’t done before, but the aesthetics, theme, tone, and quality of action here suits the developer perfectly, so, more of this in the future, please.

While there’s no exploration, your character effectively just walking from fight to fight down an endless corridor, the intricacy and subtlety of each combat encounter continues to deepen even after hours of play. It’s a masterclass in game design, working flawlessly on a touchscreen.

Fast katana action with Yokai as collectibles and a hint of Okami. Unfortunately it needs polish — mostly in presentation.

A deep action game, just as dynamic and enjoyable as its predecessors on traditional media. With World of Demons, the Japanese studio is indeed showing unfailing generosity, both on the size of the bestiary and on the number of powers available, without of course forgetting the options to improve the weapons and the different playable characters. Even after eight hours of play, we are surprised to discover new subtleties and possibilities, pushing to invest and widen the mind to face the advanced difficulty modes, thanks to the natural element system. Do this if you like action games, and have an Apple Arcade subscription.

Anyone wanting a basic hack-and-slash game with great graphics for their iOS devices can’t go wrong with World of Demons on Apple Arcade, though fans should keep in mind that it falls quite short of PlatinumGames’ best efforts.

A World Full of Demons is the last book by Carl Sagan, an astronomer, astrophysicist and outstanding science popularizer, published after his death. This book, dedicated to one of his favorite topics — the human mind and the fight against pseudoscientific stupidity — is a kind of summary of all his work. Myths about Atlantis and Lemuria, faces on Mars and encounters with aliens, magic and reincarnation, clairvoyance and Bigfoot, creationism and astrology — Sagan consistently and ruthlessly exposes the myths created by ignorance, fear and self-interest. This book is the skeptic’s manifesto, a textbook of common sense and the scientific method. A bright, deeply personal text is not only a battle with pseudoscience, but also an amazing picture of the formation of a scientific worldview, the greatest discoveries and ascetics.
Science for Sagan is pure joy, it is amazing in itself. To take just a few facts: all information about a person is contained in every cell of the body; quasars are so far away that their light began to radiate towards the Earth even before it was formed; all people are relatives and descend from the same ancestors who lived several million years ago. Science opens up unprecedented opportunities, and humanity has long no need to invent idols for itself and allow itself to be manipulated.

Demon World
CHAPTER ONE
consciousness and helpless as a baby.
«Shove him over the edge,» advised Old Chronic, a veteran Forager. His heavy-pouched eyes moved restlessly, scanning the Forager ranks incessantly, his leathery neck wrinkling and stretching like an accordion.
«Well…» Thorburn said, hesitating. It was his first time walking as leader of the Foragers, and the burden of responsibility fell on him as an unwanted surprise. Now he was shaking his massive head, trying to think and plan, aware of the presence of the six he was in charge of, and trying not to show the uncertainty he felt. He tried to get support from others, but his eyes kept moving, up and down, left and right, searching, looking and evaluating. Forager during the expedition very rarely looked at his comrades.
Old Chronic chuckled, clenched his teeth, irritation flashing in his eyes. “What are you afraid of, Thorburn? He won’t jump on you.
The other five — three men and two girls — nodded and laughed at the joke. There was truth in this. Old Chronic may have been too old to lead a group of Foragers, but he lived a long life in a business that brought death rather quickly. And now they understood the wisdom of his words. And all the time their eyes were moving, moving, moving.
Thorburn pointed with his callused finger at the strange, shiny machine that lay motionless and silent beside an equally motionless figure on the cold marble.
— What to do with it?
Julia, a large and lithe blonde with thin dicks, peered over the edge of the platform, her camouflage cloak fluttering in the wind. She turned lithely, glanced briefly at the others, and looked inquiringly at the Old Chronicle.
“Come on,” he said, gasping for breath in the fresh air.
Thorburn said, “Wait a minute…” and fell silent. His constantly wandering gaze turned to the outer sky, a dazzling blue-white glow somewhere in the distance. About a mile away, other buildings rose across the concrete desert, colored rocks of metal, stone, and plastic. In the bright light, he could clearly see every detail. And yet the outlines were a bluish haze because of the distance, a soft haze muted the colors and details, and the visible seemed blurry. “I don’t know…
The marble aerial platform suddenly trembled with a faint, barely perceptible vibration. The Foragers reacted immediately. The four men and two women wrapped their camouflage cloaks more tightly and hurried into the shadows of the building two hundred feet above them.
Thorburn hesitated. The new danger did not dispel or unravel the confusion that had halted this man. At last it seemed to him that he knew what he had to do. He effortlessly lifted the unmoving man pinned down by his strange machine, slung him over his shoulder, and followed his comrades with the long confident stride of a well-trained athlete. He reached the saving shadow of the building as the Demon stepped onto the balcony.
The stranger was not wearing a camouflage cloak, and the strange material of which his clothing was made, which had so embarrassed the Foragers, offered no clue as to its origin, but its color, dull brown and greenish gray, blended well enough with a shadow to hide it from the Demon’s huge but absent-minded eyes.
Still a few yards from his unmoving comrades, Thorburn watched the Demon walk into the sun. He was blasted by the wind as one giant foot swept past. He noted with gratitude that this time Julia’s cloak was snug around her, not flapping treacherously. The noise from the descent of monstrous feet caused vibrations in the many feet of marble. A swift wall of bright crimson, rushing past, seemingly endless, gliding across the floor with a terrible grinding, painfully echoing in the eardrums. Even the air trembled as the Demon passed.
Thorburn didn’t look up, didn’t move, stood frozen and cringing, holding back his panic, trying to overcome the centuries-old fear of Demons that had haunted humanity from the very beginning.
— Boom, boom, boom, — the steps of the Demon were pounding. With each giant impact, the sound ripped through Thorburn’s eardrums. When that pulsing crimson avalanche had passed and he was able to carefully open his hooded eyes, he saw Hanei’s white, tense, panicked face, her motionless posture more eloquent of deep primal fear than deliberate and balanced calm.
He shivered a little. Hanei was young, it was her second outing; he should have been by her side. But this stranger, so limp in his arms, took away his main attention. He could not explain his act. The rules of conduct were so rigid that there could be no discrepancy, and above all, Forager had to take care of his comrades. If the Demon suddenly noticed a man or a woman, everything could end very sadly.
At this thought, Thorburn squinted at the Demon. A huge, overwhelmingly huge Demon stepped onto the aerial platform and leaned on a balustrade that towered eighty feet. There was a flash around the corner, a muffled explosion sound.
A dark leg rose slowly, rising like the black belly of a thundercloud drawn by a formidable force. The strange shiny alien car disappeared from the edge of the platform. It had to fly through three thousand feet of empty space before it shattered on the ground below into shapeless debris. The demon snorted, and it sounded like an explosion, an overwhelming, surging hurricane of sound that made everything before it seem small.
