Book to Page/chess

I have not read the book/source material for this. So I can’t speak on how this was adapted. But I assume they did it justice. At least it feels like it. It is a wonderful film about being inside … someone’s brain. I reckon the closest you can get to it (no pun intended).

Very well played too. And the movie is edited in a way that while it may be confusing too, is also as intriguing as it can be. I almost want to read the book now. Only thing you have to be aware of: this is not so much about chess as it is about mental … health/gymnastics. I reckon if you have your mind set on watching chess matches you might be dissapointed. Just so you know …

All Occasion/Friendship, Nueve’s Notes, The Paper Players, tutorial

Do you have someone in your life, who no matter the weather,  is with you all the way?  Oh my gosh, I sure do, and this card is for her. It’s Sunday, and time to play with The Paper Players!

This week,  sweet Claire has such a timely challenge for us:  Clean and Simple April Showers!

By Clean and Simple,  The Paper Players mean cards that:

  • Have minimal layers and embellishments
  • Have plenty of open space
  • Are simple and uncluttered

We can’t wait to see what YOU create!

Colors of the Day

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips

What’s more fun than polka-dotted rain boots? I stamped the boots directly onto Flowering Fields designer series paper, and die cut them out.   The Flowering Rain Boots bundle is packed with fun images and dies.  I elected to fill my boots with tulips.  The set does have a “Rain or Shine” sentiment which I could have used, but I felt that the sentiment from the March 2020 Paper Pumpkin suited my intended recipient and situation better.

To download the free step-by-step tutorial for today’s No Matter the Weather card, which includes all the paper measurements and all of the current products used, please click on the button below. For every card which has been posted on my blog since 2019, there is a free tutorial.

Notes from Nueve

Hey, everyone! It’s me, Nueve!  I got news.   Sixxy is home from class, and so is Uncle Q, at least for awhile.  Now that they are home, I don’t have to play so much with my mom.  She was kind of slow when we played chase, but she tried.

She would never grab the tug in her mouf, like Sixxy and Uncle Q do.  I thought maybe Mom didn’t know she was ‘posed to put it in her mouf and pull on it.  I tried to help her out by sticking it in her face.  But it didn’t work.

I thought maybe she would like to play with the dumb bell. It fits my mouf really good. But, Mom didn’t want to put it in her mouf, either.  I don’t get why she doesn’t put toys in her mouf. She just holds them in her hands.  I think it’s ’cause she has ‘posable thumbs, so her hands work better than mine.  But, I have a better mouf than her.

‘Cause I was a good boy while Sixxy was away, Mom bought me a new collar.  It’s red and it’s got stars on it. It was made by the same person who made Sixxy’s collar.

Sixxy’s got jewels on her collar.   It’s pink.  Sixxy likes girly things, so her collar is girly.

Poor Uncle Q doesn’t have a pretty collar like me or Sixxy. He just has a black danbana.

He helped me and Sixxy guard the neighborhood and watch for squirrels and the Easter bunny.  We did a really good job. We must have sat there guarding for hours.  But, it’s part of the job.  We are working dogs, and I am the best.  I have stars on my collar.  I am Good Boy Nueve!

Watchdogs of dogs: Moscow Watchtte, Caucasian, Central Asian, Terrier

Content of Article

  • Moscow patrol
  • Caucasian shepherd
  • Central Asian shepherd
  • 9000 for myself. These service dogs are supposed to guard the area. The most famous breeds of guard dogs will be considered in our article.

    Moscow watchdog

    The breed was bred in the late 40s of the twentieth century in a special nursery located in the Moscow region. The Moscow watchdog is a domestic dog breed that belongs to service and is officially recognized.

    Characteristic features of the breed: strong, massive, agile, with easy movements and well-developed protective and watchdog qualities. Since this is a domestic breed, it perfectly tolerates both summer heat and winter cold.

    The standard provides for the following mandatory characteristics: large stature, wide body, elongated body, voluminous and well-developed muscles. The legs are straight, parallel, the hind legs are set slightly wider than the front ones, the tail is set high and reaches the hock in length.

    The head is massive, broad, the forehead is convex. It has a good grip, but feels the distance: if an outsider has moved away from the guarded borders, it falls silent, but remains alert.

    These wonderful dogs live up to 15 years: they are very calm, have a strong nervous system. They have both good mental and excellent physical health.

    Dogs with pronounced functions of guarding the territory will get along well both in an apartment and in a private house, provided that the owner provides daily great physical activity. The Moscow watchdog needs constant communication with a person. If the owner of the animal provides him with a full life, he will receive a wonderful friend and reliable guard.

    Caucasian Shepherd Dog

    The habitats of dogs are the zones of the Caucasus Range, as well as the steppe southern regions of Russia.

    The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is a large dog of above average height. Strong, fast, smart dog. Differs in power and strength, movements are confident, light, free. Requires socialization.

    Caucasian Shepherd Dogs are not fussy, fearless and extremely distrustful of strangers. However, a poorly educated shepherd dog, due to its huge size and dominant character, can also be dangerous for the owner. Therefore, a general training course is required.

    Due to the nature of the dog (willfulness, tendency to lead) it can be difficult to train. The owner will need a firm, decisive character to stop the development of negative traits even in puppyhood.

    The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is good with children, but it is not recommended to leave a small child alone with a dog.

    The weight of males is from 50 kilograms, the weight of females is from 45 kilograms, the height is from 68 centimeters and from 64 centimeters respectively. Life expectancy 10-12 years.

    Shepherd has a massive skeleton and well-developed muscles. This breed is ideal for protecting large areas. Preferably kept in the yard in a spacious aviary.

    When kept on a chain or in cramped housing conditions, the dog experiences stress, starts to get bored, and often barks out of business.

    Central Asian Shepherd Dog

    The Shepherd Dog is distinguished by the highest guarding and protective qualities.

    In the 30s of the last century in Russia, then still the USSR, breeding work began with the Central Asian Shepherd Dog. It was planned to use the breed to protect important strategic military and civilian facilities. But this use did not take root: the dog was recognized as wayward and unsuitable for mass use.

    The breed of the Central Asian Shepherd Dog was recognized by the international cynological organization in 1989, but its other name «alabay» is not officially fixed anywhere.

    Sheepdogs are balanced, calm, not fussy. They have a stable psyche and a phlegmatic disposition.

    But the dog’s waywardness has been preserved: only with stable contact between the shepherd dog and the owner and the approval of the owner’s training commands, the dog will work. A shepherd dog needs a leader, if the dog feels dominance, then the character of the pet will become uncontrollable.

    In order to avoid negative changes in the pet’s behavior, it is recommended to entrust training to a trained specialist. The breed is characterized by low socialization. Shepherds are extremely distrustful of strangers.

    The Central Asian Shepherd Dog is not adapted to keeping in apartment conditions. For its large size, a large area with a spacious aviary is suitable: the dog requires great physical exertion and a long walk.

    When kept on a chain, the dog experiences psychological stress, in addition, it affects the physical health of the pet — the muscles do not work intensively, weaken, which can contribute to the development of diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

    When protecting the territory, the shepherd dog will not attack unnecessarily, it does not give in to provocations. Only with a real threat to the owner, the dog attacks, everything that happens outside the territory is indifferent to it.

    Sheepdog treats children well, tries to take care of and protect them.

    The breed standard provides for height at the withers for males from 70 centimeters, for females — from 65 centimeters, weight — from 50 kilograms and from 40 kilograms, respectively. Life expectancy 12-15 years.

    Black Russian Terrier

    In the middle of the twentieth century, in the army kennel located in the Moscow region, work began on breeding a new breed intended for the protection of prisons and camps.

    Changes in the situation in the country, on the one hand, crossed out the service of animals in the police and the army, and on the other hand, allowed the mass presentation of the breed. So, in 1955, the Russian black terrier was shown at VDNH (exhibition of achievements of the national economy), and in 1957 — at the Moscow exhibition of service dogs. Since that time, dog breeders have been able to purchase a Black Russian Terrier.

    The breed turned out to be international: 17 breeds of dogs participated in the breeding of the terrier. The main qualities laid down in the characteristics of the breed are a comfortable stay in our climatic conditions, submission to one leader and excellent security qualities.

    Black Russian Terrier was recognized in 1984 by the International Cynological Organization.

    The breed standard includes the following characteristics: males weigh an average of 50 kilograms with a height of 66-72 centimeters, for females — with a weight of 45-50 kilograms, height — 64-70 centimeters. Life expectancy is 10-11 years.

    Terriers are physically hardy dogs that require long daily physical activity, jogging. Intensive work helps them keep their working shape.

    They need a mandatory course of training and socialization. Black terriers have a strong character, therefore they obey only a firm and authoritative owner. A properly trained Terrier is a manageable dog in any situation.

    The owner must be careful when walking with a terrier in crowded places. This massive dog can, even unconsciously or at the slightest suspicion of danger to the owner, harm an outsider or child, for example, push, scare, drop.

    The dog is very attached to the owner, friendly with children, but it is not recommended to leave the terrier alone with the child, the dog does not like when its loyalty is abused.

    In case of danger, the dog is capable of an instant reaction, has a strong grip; if it is strongly excited, the owner will have to work hard to tear the pet’s jaws away from the intruder.

    The Black Russian Terrier is nicknamed «black lightning» due to its lightning-fast reaction and jump, which gives the impression that the dog is pushing off the ground with all four paws at the same time.

    The development of the breed has changed the character of the terrier to a more friendly one with the preservation of protective qualities and the ability to stand up for himself and for the owner.

    Thanks to their thick coat with a dense undercoat, terriers live quietly in outdoor booths with spacious enclosed enclosures. In such conditions, pets can move a lot and actively.

    East European Shepherd Dog

    This breed is well known from the movie “Come, Mukhtar!”.

    The complex history of its creation and preservation has been going on for more than half a century. Initially, the work of cynologists was conceived as «our answer to the German shepherd». The purposeful work of domestic specialists made it possible to create the East European Shepherd dog breed, which is distinguished by its more massive size, endurance, balanced character and adapted to harsh climatic conditions.

    With the recognition in 1991 by the international canine organization of the German Shepherd, the breed of Eastern European dogs moved to an illegal position, as it was considered their subspecies.

    But enthusiasts and lovers of the breed, who did not agree with this approach, continued to develop and improve the East European Shepherd Dog. The result of hard work was the recognition of this breed in 2002 by the Russian Cynological Federation.

    The breed standard provides for the size of the male: height 66-76 centimeters, weight — 35-60 kilograms; females — height 62-72 centimeters, weight — 30-50 kilograms. Life expectancy is 12-15 years. Medium length coat with dense undercoat.

    The dog is large, active and physically strong with well developed muscles. These animals are distinguished by a strong nervous system, strong immunity, the ability to perform tasks in harsh climates and cold weather.

    The breed was created for service in the army, protection of territories, work in the police, as well as the search for chemical and narcotic substances. These dogs were also used as guide dogs for the visually impaired and guarded the state border.

    Sheepdogs are well trained, especially when trained from puppyhood. When trained, they gladly demonstrate their obedience, do not try to dominate and show will.

    Sheepdog has a friendly character, but only with «friends» and becomes «combatant» at the slightest threat to the owner or family members.

    Friendly towards children, loves to play with them.

    Excellent characteristics and calm temperament have allowed the East European Shepherd to gain popularity among people and as a pet.

    The dog is very attached to his master: smart, unpretentious, has the typical features of a protector. He is wary of strangers, but does not show aggression unnecessarily.

    Shepherd can be kept both in a spacious street booth with a fenced enclosure, and in a city apartment. If the dog spent the first years of his life in an apartment, then he will not be able to adapt to life on the street.

    Each breed is interesting in its own way. When choosing a guard dog as a pet, be sure to remember that:

    Differences between guard and guard breeds

    The science of cynology, which studies aspects of the life of dogs, classifies four-legged friends into several groups.

    Depending on the purpose, dogs are divided into:

    • sentry;
    • hunting;
    • shepherds;
    • decorative.

    All guard dog breeds to protect a private home, instantly warn the owners of the upcoming threat. A species is a guard dog — it is specially trained to protect the home and inhabitants.

    Shepherds drive out cattle and protect it from danger, indoor and decorative four-legged friends do not have special skills and become pets.

    Cattle species include:

    • Australian: Kelly, Kohl, Moody;
    • Shepherds: White Swiss, Portuguese, Romanian, Caucasian, German, Central Asian, Croatian and South Russian.

    Pet dogs are of certain breeds, mostly small animals:

    • terriers: Yorkshire, Australian silky;
    • Pinscher: miniature, affenpinscher;
    • Spitz;
    • poodles;
    • chihuahua;
    • Pekingese.

    A guard dog must be chosen with care. It is recommended to pay close attention to the individual characteristics of her character and special training. The animal must be smart in order to warn the owners of the impending disaster in time, and bark loudly.

    Ask a question

    The size of a dog is very important.

    An ill-wisher will beware of entering a house that is guarded by a huge animal, and will not expect meanness from a small individual — a guard small dog will surprise and frighten the intruder.

    An animal aimed at protecting the house must undergo special training and learn to sense the approach of danger. An untrained animal may bark for no reason, and it will be difficult for the owners to understand when it warns.

    Criteria that a guard dog must meet:

    • medium to large;
    • undercoat to survive cold winters;
    • lack of trust in strangers;
    • easy to learn;
    • strength and endurance;
    • lack of interest in other animals.

    The pet’s social circle should be limited to the owner and family members, it is not recommended to allow incoming guests to caress and feed the dog. The animal must understand who it needs to protect, and what kind of people are guests coming into the house. The dog will not be aggressive towards family friends, but it will not allow an outsider to harm the people he serves.

    Only the variety with a thick undercoat can live outdoors in winter. Smooth-haired dogs, without the proper fat layer, will not be able to be outside in the cold season.

    The pet is accustomed to the booth from the end of the summer season and its health is carefully monitored when low temperatures begin. A dog that has a weak immune system from birth will not be able to survive the winter in the fresh air.

    The size of the kennel should be calculated so that the dog feels comfortable inside and not crowded. Too spacious housing is bad, the animal will freeze. For the cold season, it is better to insulate the house of a four-legged friend.

    The location of the booth must be calculated so that it can be viewed from the territory of the protected dwelling of the owner.

    You can give your pet to be raised by a cynologist if there is no time for self-study. But it is impossible to deprive a guard dog of special training; in the worst case, it will turn into a pet that will not be able to protect itself or loved ones in case of danger or turn into an evil monster.

    If you follow the rules for keeping and caring for a watchdog, then such a four-legged defender will justify the time and money spent on himself, and will serve faithfully until the end of his life.

    Photo and video review

    It is necessary to choose a four-legged defender carefully so as not to regret your choice later. It is necessary to carefully study the characteristics of the breed, pay attention to the appearance of the dog and finally make a choice.
