Digital Extremes has overhauled the daily alert system in its free-to-play loot shooter Warframe, something that had been in place for six years, and replaced it with a battle pass system called Nightwave that weaves its reward structure into a larger story.

Nightwave is the name of a new radio station players can dial into on their spaceships. It’s run by a new character called Nora Night, who uses a pirated broadcast signal to share gossip and conspiracy theories about the rich, powerful, and dangerous. Every time players log on, she’ll have a list of daily and weekly challenges for them to complete in order to build up their reputation with her and earn Nightwave-specific rewards like crafting resources, weapon mods, and armor sets in the process. After a certain number of weeks, the entire thing resets and a new set of challenges and rewards become available, not unlike the seasonal updates already in games like Rocket League and Fortnite.

What’s extra cool about Nightwave is the way it’s subtly tucked into the rest of Warframe’s world building. Digital Extremes is treating Nightwave sort of like a radio play. There will be individual series that each run approximately 10 weeks, and inside each series will be a handful of episodes that slowly move the narrative along before resetting with a new arc.

The current series, called The Wolf of Saturn Six, focuses on a rogue Grineer criminal who managed to break out of a prison hidden deep within the planet’s gas clouds. Three other fugitives followed him, and now each has a random chance of spawning in any mission as a mini-boss. Defeat them and you build standing with Nora. Defeat the Wolf and he might drop one of the components necessary to craft the giant sledgehammer that he fights with. Nora’s daily and weekly challenges, like kill X number of enemies in Y fashion, each net 1,000, 3,000, or 5,000 standing with her, depending on the difficulty.

For every 10,000 standing, you reach a new rank going all the way up to 30, with a new prize at each tier. In addition, this first series adds a new currency called Wolf Creds which are awarded every few tiers and can be spent at Nora’s shop for other stuff like equipment mods, special skins, and new weapon blueprints. Once the series ends, all of this stuff will get replaced with a new set of loot themed around whatever the next storyline is.

It’s a lot, but also a huge improvement over the previous daily challenge system, which usually just consisted of going to a specific node on the map and repeating an old mission for a bunch of extra currency. It was mostly useless for veteran players and boring for newcomers. The new battle pass-style system not only provides a bunch of worthwhile rewards for logging on every so often to run a few missions, but also helps infuse Warframe’s universe with another level of fun intrigue.

“Greed. Brutality. Oppression. True stories, all, and the System is full of them,” Nora says at the beginning of her broadcast. “Dreamers? You listening? The System needs you performing your good deeds of the day. Nora needs it. Needs you to act. To change things. Hear the news, Dreamers. Hear it, or be it.”

Warframe has always struggled with feeling like a single, unified game with a clear overarching story, not because there isn’t one but because it’s spread out across the game in small pieces due to its fragmented structure. Who knows how the current series will wrap up or what the next one will be like, but for now, the start of Nightwave feels like a smart way to convey the mysterious mood of the game by pegging it to the incremental loot grind on which the core of it is based.

Warframe’s New Rogue Radio Host Nora Night Introduces Nightwave

Games

by Douglass Perry, PR Director at Digital Extremes •

The Warframe dev team, always passionately intent on keeping its game interesting and ever-changing, has introduced something it’s never done. We’re delivering a new way to earn rewards while playing Warframe with a single, powerful broadcast.

If you have been playing over the last week or two, you may have heard a new voice interspersed between the mix of Lotus and Ordis chatter in your Orbiter. That smooth, convincing voice that suddenly appears out of nowhere? That’s Nora Night, the rogue host who runs the pirate radio broadcast, “Nightwave”.

“Hey there, Dreamers. You hearin’ me? I know you are. No need to say anythin’. A hand in yours, a voice for the speechless, a bedtime story for the sleepless. The name’s Nora Night, and I got somethin’ to say, sweet things. Nightwave is coming.” — Nora Night

Nora is the eyes and ears of the Origin System and her anti-authority voice and conscience-searing messages aren’t just talk. She’s offering new challenges, new stories to unravel, and unlockable time-limited exclusive rewards, be they cosmetic or power-based. Last week, playable on Xbox One (among other platforms), we introduced the first of many broadcasts with “Nightwave: Series 1 — The Wolf of Saturn Six”. In this debut Series, a savage and unruly convict has escaped from captivity. Now he’s out there, freely prowling the Origin System. Mark the frequency, Tenno — this is one story you need to hear.

In each Nightwave Series, you’ll earn Standing by completing daily and weekly Acts with Nora to rise through the Reward Tiers and unlock power items, exclusive cosmetics or currency called Wolf Cred. Each tier contains unique, never-offered-before rewards and we strongly encourage you to unlock all 30 tiers before each series ends, so you don’t miss out!

This is an amazing time to log into Warframe because of the availability of these exclusive rewards. They include highly sought-after Power items such as a Warframe slot, Weapon slots, Umbra Forma, Forma Bundles, Orokin Catalysts, and exclusive Cosmetics, like Armor, Sigils, a Syandana, and more.

Some of the unique rewards available in “The Wolf of Saturn Six” include:

  • Saturn Six Armor Bundle (Tier 30): The signature battle armor of the only lunatic fearsome enough to have escaped the Saturn Six Max-Pen.
  • Umbra Forma (Tier 29): Applies the Umbra polarity to any Warframe or Weapon.
  • Wolf Howl Emote (Tier 26): Summon the pack with this exclusive emote.
  • Two Weapon Slots (Tier 4): Adds two weapon Inventory slots.

For those wondering about the previous Alert System, by visiting the Nightwave Cred Offerings, you can still acquire the former Alert System Rewards you want the most! Examples here include Nitain Extract, Weapon and Helmet Blueprints, Catalysts, Reactors and rare Aura Mods. Earn up to 300 Wolf Cred by completing daily and weekly Acts, and even more with Prestige once you rise past Tier 30! Wolf Cred must be redeemed before the Series is over or sold for credits, so use them before the frequency is lost.

Nightwave: Series 1 is really just the tip of the iceberg. We think you’re going to love it — we hope you try it, and we’d love to hear what you think! Talk to us on our forums, and check in with us on our various Twitch streams. If you like Nightwave, we have plenty more characters, events and rewards coming this year. Nora is just getting started!

“An echo. From long ago: ‘For ten years I have been polishing this sword. It’s frosty edge has never been put to the test. Now, I am holding it and showing it to you, sir: Is there anyone suffering from injustice?’ Keep livin’, Dreamers.” — Nora Night

Warframe: How it works | Stop Game

Neophyte’s Manual. Orbiter tour.

Recently yeah, at the beginning of August news about one important game for me appeared in Infact. And, judging by the activity in the comments, this news — update Heart of Deimos — was a reason for joy among a large number of players. Accordingly, newcomers may also appear who, looking at this activity, decide to try what kind of fruit this is — Warframe ?

Many have probably heard that this is a third-person looter shooter. And many, having tasted this fruit, either continued to greedily dig into this juicy yummy, or threw it away with the words “Fu, the bones are tough here, I’d better go eat something else. ” And in order to lure new acolytes into our little cult, I decided to write a small guide for the newly awakened Tenno.

Although Warframe at first glance seems to be a simple game (run, shoot, cast abilities), you can often hear about people who abandoned the project due to incomprehensible leveling and the lack of intelligible training besides “LMB to shoot, SHIFT to run” (which , by the way, was updated along with the recent mainline, but it’s still basic control).

Choice

At the very start of the game, we are given a choice of three Warframes . These are fighting machines of unprecedented power, with the use of which an entire empire fell. We control them — Tenno , [DATA EXPUNGED].

All Warframes are strong in their own way, and the choice of which one to start with can be made both in appearance and in terms of the capabilities of the frame. Each frame has 4 active abilities and one passive. The use of abilities consumes energy (local mana), it can be replenished by picking up blue spheres that have fallen from enemies, using frame abilities and in many other ways.

The first frame is Excalibur , the mascot of the game and a favorite of many players. Perhaps the easiest (of the starting ones) to learn.

  • One (from here on I will call abilities by the key with which they are cast, except that the four is an ult, although this is not always the case) — a dash during which Ex summons the “Magnificent Blade”, jumping from one enemy to another, chopping them to pieces.

  • Deuce blinds nearby enemies, allowing them to perform a special melee move on them — finishing off.

  • Troika — hitting the ground, Ex unleashes a volley of shining spears on enemies.

  • Quadruple — The Majestic Blade itself, which replaces melee weapons. During each hit, a stream of energy escapes, flying through opponents and the environment right through.

  • Passive — deals more damage with swords and swings them faster. Also works on the Blade itself.

Mag — Commanding magnetic fields, this Warframe is able to control crowds and crush hordes. It is perhaps the most difficult of the starting frames, so take it if the words «AoE damage», «armor strip» and «shieldgate» do not cause you to panic.

  • One — pulls enemies towards you, throwing them defenseless at your feet. Enemies she kills also have an increased chance of dropping an Energy Orb.

  • Deuce — creates a magnetic sphere around the selected enemy, which attracts nearby enemies, and also absorbs all bullets (both theirs and yours) for periodic damage in a ball. Explodes when finished, releasing all accumulated damage. Along with the release of Heart of Deimos , a new way of using appeared — Mag creates a sphere in her hands that eats bullets (melee and area attacks can still cause damage), and returns them back to enemies in front of the frame when the effect ends (or if you press the key again).

  • Three — Mag releases a wave that rips off armor and shields from enemies, while restoring shields to allies (including Mag herself). Broken guard deals damage to enemies standing next to each other, and its fragments can also be used to strengthen the deuce.

  • Frame four lifts all nearby enemies into the air, methodically breaking their bones, then throwing them back to the ground. For each enemy hit, restores some shields to nearby teammates (and Meg), which can grow into overshields.

  • Passive — performing a bullet jump (crouch + jump, one of the local parkour maneuvers) attracts all prey near Meg (instead of running and picking everything up yourself).

Volt is the most multi-tasking Starter Warframe. Maybe there, and here, and generally cute.

  • One — chain lightning that stuns the enemy.

  • Deuce speeds up Volt and Frames nearby, allowing you to run faster, reload weapons and hit in melee.

  • Troika is an electrified shield that prevents bullets from hitting enemies hiding behind it. Allied bullets deal additional electricity damage and crits become more painful. Volt can pick it up to use as a portable frontal shield (although only a pistol or a melee can be used). Also, if you hit the shield with a unit, then it will stun enemies passing through it.

  • Four — Volt emits a powerful electric pulse that stuns opponents. Each hit enemy becomes a kind of conductor, creating painfully beating lightning passing nearby.

  • Passive — for each step taken, Volt accumulates an electric charge that increases the damage of the next attack, shot or ability.

Terminals

Now that you’ve chosen a frame, it’s time to complete the first quest. In it, they will let you run back and forth, show which buttons to press, and so on. Nothing particularly complicated, from the important — roll / dodge press SHIFT once, reduces incoming damage and makes AI smear, I told about the bullet jump a little higher. Upon returning to the ship — Orbiter — you will start to turn on various terminals, which, in fact, beginners stumble over.

To be honest, I don’t remember in what order they open, so let’s go in order of importance.

Arsenal — here you can customize everything — from appearance to technology. Every time you hover over one of the equipment tabs, you have several options — view other items of the same type, customize appearance, and customize fashion .

Let’s dwell on the last one, because this is the main way of pumping in the game. You install them in your equipment, and they give you damage, rate of fire, reduce the energy consumption of abilities, give health regeneration, «vacuum» the neighboring loot and the list goes on. Each item has several slots for mods and a capacity indicator. With slots, everything is simple: one mod — one cell. But with a capacity …

The cooler the mod, the more capacity it eats. Perhaps it’s worth saying right away that fashion is for specials. resource ( endo ) + credits can also be pumped, increasing its power and cost. Each time you rank up a weapon, frame, or vehicle, you will receive new capacity units, up to 30 at level 30 (max.). It can also be doubled by inserting a potato — Catalyst (for weapons) or Reactor (for frame) Orokin , for a total of 60 HP. Frames and melee weapons have special slots for aura and rack respectively, which add a few more capacity.

We figured that out, and now let’s get down to the most difficult part — polarity . Some slots have a special polarity (madurai, naramon, etc.), which are easier to distinguish by the icon (tick, dash, squiggle). The same icon is also in one of the corners of the mods. If you insert a mod of the appropriate polarity (tick to tick) into the appropriate slot, then its cost will become 2 times less, and you can add even more mods to the gun for the freed capacity units. If the polarity does not match, the mod will eat more space. At the same time, the coinciding polarity of aura or stance mods increases the bonus added from them, also doubling it. Well, if it does not match, the bonus will be less.

Slots can be polarized by adding the chosen polarity again to the selected slot. To do this, when reaching rank 30, you need to spend a special resource — form . This will reset the rank of the gun, but give more room for mods.

The next terminal is market . Here you can see guns, frames, externals and almost all items in the game. ALL items, I repeat, ALL items that affect gameplay (guns, frames, vehicles, mods, etc.) can be obtained without spending a penny on a donat.

In the upper left corner there is a category menu, by clicking on which you can open specific products that interest you. The price is listed everywhere in platinum (local donation), and in order to see the price of an item in credits, you must first open its page. In most cases, you can buy blueprint , but there are also a few items that are sold out of the box.

If the item you are interested in cannot be bought a blueprint, then you will either receive it as a reward for completing the quest, or it drops from the enemy / boss / mission *humming* farm, great, very complex, farm, there’s a lot here. .. . Where exactly to take this item will be written on its page (well, or if you look at the drawing). If there is no description there, please chat, kind people will tell you. The alternative is wiki , your best friend.

Next to the market is forge — the place where we will turn blueprints into items. And, perhaps, everything. A forge is a forge. Lots of tabs. You can see what resources are available now. Drawing — Components. Further either you create, or you look what components are necessary. A! Here you can also improve hoaxers (in fact, special mods), but you are still far from them, and not in this guide.

Opposite the forge — mod terminal . Here they can be viewed, improved, converted, sold or disassembled. The improvement is described above, the transformation turns 4 mods into one random one, the sale changes the mods to credits, and the disassembly — endo . Another tab is sculpture Ayatan . They can sometimes be found during missions (or obtained from [DATA EXPUNGED]), exchange for endo, or decorate your Orbiter.

To the right of the mod terminal is incubator . Here we deal with live pets. In one of the first quests, they will tell you how to use it. Improvements can be knocked out from the enemy (Grineer cat summoner) or bought at the Dojo (local clan hub).

Looking away from the incubator, you can see the place where your robotic pets will hang (or sit, if you’re lucky). Set up in the Arsenal.

If you go to the right from the arsenal, you can stumble upon abyss relic terminal . These are «loot boxes» that you regularly drop from missions and contain cooler guns. Almost all components falling from relics, can be exchanged with other players both for others and for platinum! It is thanks to these relics that you can buy tons of externals for yourself, or save your time by buying ready-made products in the market or from other players (instead of knocking them out). Relics also have their own rarity, but this is easy — the more difficult the mission, the better the relic.

In the terminal itself, you can view reels, both available and missing, and their contents. Hovering over a specific relic you will see 6 items, 3 «common», two «uncommon» and 1 «rare». According to the name, they have the same drop chance. A little lower is the interface for improving the relic. By spending a special resource, you can increase the chance of dropping the item you are interested in. This resource (Abyssal Echoes) drops from the same type of mission you unlock it on (sometimes it can also be obtained as a reward from regular missions).

Going further — back to the windshield and looking to the left, in front of the market there will be code . In it, you can take new quests (and view the conditions for obtaining them), read the lore of the game, mission descriptions, stats of guns and opponents, as well as a bunch of tutorials. But the wiki does all this better (albeit more often with spoilers).

In the middle, right next to the glass — navigation . From here we fly on missions. Here you can also see what resources are falling from which planet (lower right corner). In the upper right corner there are tabs with special events, whether they are global events or syndicate orders. The further you advance in the star system and in the story, the more tabs there will be. From the most important — in the same place you can see on which missions you can open relics (instead of individually poking at each planet).

To the left of navigation is syndicate terminal (local factions). Unlocked at rank 3 of the player profile. You can also buy syndicate rewards there. We swing turnips either with the help of a “tatukha” on the back (you need to equip it in the outside at the arsenal) or for missions, guess who? Right! Syndicates! And there is also a quick teleport to factions from «open worlds» or to a pair of NPCs with Relays (a hub with other players, each planet has its own).

Across from the syndicates is a conclave. Forget that this terminal exists.

Well, between navigation and the forgotten, we squeezed socket with news . If you poke at them, a link to the official website of the game or forums will open with a detailed description of what happened and how.

Finally

So, the terminals seem to be finished, only spoilers remain. Let’s move on to tips.

STARTING PLATINUM (50 units if I’m not mistaken) DO NOT SPEND ON EXTERIOR OR GUNS! Buy yourself frame slots or weapons instead. Yes, inventory space is limited. Fortunately, this does not apply to components, but only to «finished» products. So you can farm as much as you like, but you will often have to decide who to sell or leave to decide at the beginning. Also, until you decide to take the item from the forge, it will not occupy a slot in your inventory.

Platinum (as described above) is obtained in exchange with other players. You can exchange both items from relics, as well as mods or special guns (and their spare parts. More details on the wiki). You can trade in the corresponding chat tab or on the site warframe.market . While trading, you will need to either go to the terminal at the Dojo or the relay near Mars. In addition to the exchange itself, you will have to fork out a little in credits (the rarer the mod / item, the higher the tax).

For a daily login reward, in addition to resources and unique items, you can get a discount on platinum (on PC, on consoles this is a coupon for the purchase of one item from the market) and they fall often. It’s up to you to donate or not, but Stim’s regional prices greatly reduce the «global» price.

Credits are obtained very easily, and you should not be too afraid to spend them. Yes, the initial missions give them little, but then you will have access to Index — the arena where they are actually farmed. To enter the arena, you need to pay the initial bet (the more difficult, the more), but for the victory you will be refunded the money in excess (for the maximum difficulty, the entrance is 50 thousand, for the victory — 250k, as a result, the profit is 200 pieces). The arena tutorial is in the codex, in short — kill the «gladiators», pick up the «coins» and carry them to the enemy base. The more «coins» — the less health, but more points for the «goal» will be given. Well, you can also sell duplicate mods, drawings or unnecessary items. With endo, it’s a bit more complicated, but for now, you can just disassemble extra mods.

Profile ranks ( mastery ranks ) increase the daily reputation limit of syndicates, increase the base capacity of mods for the gun (example: rank 24 — there are already 24 slots at level 1, and the remaining 6, respectively, will be at levels 25, 26, etc.), give a few more pluses, and most importantly, they allow you to buy new blueprints and use cooler guns (if I’m not mistaken, at rank 16 you will have access to all items in the game). The rank up test can only be taken once a day . If you fail, wait 24 hours. However, if you pass, you still have to wait 24 hours. You can go to the NPC in the relay for practice. Here, for example, bonuses for upgrading to rank 25:

Mastery is pumped for each level of a gun, frame, pet… But only 1 time. That is, you brought the frame to level 30, reset it to level 1 with the help of the form, and that’s it, skill does not drip. So if you want to download — change the arsenal! And be sure to bring the item to level 30 before selling. The more often, the better. Don’t worry if you have a favorite frame. Later in the story, it will be possible to insert a special lens into it that converts experience into [DATA EXPUNGED] at level 30, so you can safely use your favorite fluff throughout the game.

From starter guns, I recommend Stran (shotgun) and Lex (pistol). Both can be bought immediately ready-made on the market (25k and 50k respectively). MK-1 (those that will be given after the tutorial) change as soon as possible, these are generally pea shooters. Both guns will allow you to go through the first planets without paying much attention to mods and their pumping. Stran will help you get comfortable with parkour (a shotgun, after all, you need to go point-blank first), while Lex is a killer barrel with huge damage and corresponding recoil, which can be used for long-range targets.

Melee weapons, in my purely subjective opinion, are the strongest in the game. It hurts, and absorbs damage (in a block), and can restore health (on its own or with mods, it already depends on fluff), and even regenerate mana (special modular fluffs Zo, «build it yourself» , with a specific hoaxer, components can be bought at Cetus on Earth, the hub of the first open world, and hoaxers for them there).

Your first «new» frame will most likely be Reno . It’s simple as a brick, and just as reliable in terms of knocking down enemies. Blueprints can be obtained from the Venus boss, and the main one is bought on the market for 35k credits.

You can either create your own clan (communication -> clan -> create), or join an existing one (chat -> recruiting -> “I want to join the clan, accept the newcomer at will”). You will be given a key blueprint for the Dojo. In the Dojo, you can buy new drawings (which are not on the market), trade, and much more. At the start, it’s better to join an existing one, and create your own (if you come in) when there are extra resources, because all the drawings must first be examined in pre-built laboratories. That those that others require a lot of resources. And yes, the more people in the clan, the higher the price (all members of the clan can add resources to the building/research). The sooner you join, the better, because there are a lot of goodies in the labs. Large clans also have similar decorations:

Some items (Orokin potatoes, aura mods, helmet blueprints and a bunch of other things) can and should be bought from Nightwave (ESC -> Wave, or poke the radio in the Orbiter corridor; I don’t know what mastery rank is needed to open it). This is the local battle pass. It is completely free, for pumping you get both the currency of the current season for the store, as well as slots for guns, frames, externals and a lot of other useful things.

And most importantly, don’t rush. No need to chase new content like the last ice cream in the fridge at a summer family get-together. Exhausted, tired, burned out. Try to play for fun, and at first just go through the entire solar system. And when you are done, you will have completed the quests, and there will be a lot of mods with resources, and for sure you will decide on your favorite Warframes and weapons. Well, there you can already poke your head into open worlds or special missions. They are not so scary, but it is still better not to go there with a bare bottom.

Good luck!

Perhaps this can be rounded off. I hope this little guide will help you get comfortable in the mysterious universe of the game «Warframe» . Comments and remarks are welcome. Remember that the community of this game is one of the friendliest, and the chat will always help. Wake up, Tenno!
