Rogue Legacy 2 for Nintendo Switch

Rogue Legacy 2 is a genealogical rogue-LITE. That means it has all the trappings of a typical rogue-like, but with persistent upgrades, and persistent heirs. In this game, your legacy defines you. Spend your inheritance, grow the family manor, and give your children a better fighting chance.
Each child is unique, with their own traits and abilities. One daughter could be vampiric Ranger, while another could be a vegan Chef. It’s a new experience every time. RL2 also lets you play how you want to. Go hard and fast, and dive deeper into the depths of a randomly-generated world. Or take it slow and steady and build your character up until you’re ready for greater challenges.

WHAT’S NEW IN 2
Every Adventure is Unique
New monsters, traps, and layouts await you every time you enter the Kingdom. This is a world where improvisation, not memorization, is the key to success.

Wildly New Classes
No two classes play the same. Hide atop Ivy Canopies as the Ranger and rain poisoned arrows down on your foes. Take to the skies as a Dragon Lancer, striking enemies at massive speeds. Or sing and dance through danger as the joyous Bard. RL2 supports 15 new classes, with 15 distinct styles of play.

Brand New Style
Rogue Legacy 2 features 2.5D stylings, with 3D characters against hand-drawn backdrops. The art uses heavy shading and all animations are done using stepping techniques to keep the familiar Rogue Legacy look and feel.

Revamped Biome Generation
Biome generation in RL2 will feel completely new, as each biome adopts different “build strategies” to create completely unique randomly-generated regions.

True Metroidvania
To really push the metroidvania flair, RL2 introduces heirlooms: special items that permanently give your heroes new abilities and fundamentally change the way you play. Prove your worth, provided you can uncover the many heirlooms.

Traits 2.0
Though fun the first time, traits in RL1 often wore their welcome later in the game. We’ve now added gold modifiers to entice players to take on new challenges. The more debilitating the trait is (in-game), the bigger the reward. This makes choosing your heirs a meaningful decision every time.

Relics and Resolve
One of the most exciting new features to Rogue Legacy 2 is the ability to pick up Relics, which are unique items that change how your run is played. Gain stat modifiers, complete special challenges, and even gain brand new abilities as you traverse the kingdom. But be careful, the more Relics you obtain the more your resolve is shaken, and all Relics are lost if your hero perishes.

Improved Accessibility
Rogue Legacy 2 takes accessibility to the next level with the introduction of House Rules. Toggle contact damage, tweak global damage and health, and even give yourself flight for difficult platform sections. You have complete control over how you want to play the game. Also introduced are new mechanics such as Off-shore Banking to give struggling players more ways to succeed.

Rich Narrative & New Game+
Beating the game once is only the beginning. Learn about the inevitable collapse of a once-thriving kingdom, and discover the dark secrets of the ones responsible, while you connect and build relationships with the characters you meet along the way. The new and expanded lore to RL2 runs deep as you continue to explore and discover multiple playthroughs in NG+. Choose how the game gets harder, from unique biome hazards, to special boss fights. The experience keeps changing for near infinite replayability.

More of Everything
The sequel adds more of everything people loved from the original Rogue Legacy. More traits, spells, classes, biomes, enemies, equipment, rooms, story. More secrets… Just more everything.

Clownanthropy
Holy smokes! Punching clowns!

AND THERE’S A WHOLE LOT MORE. Scar Challenges, Fairy Rooms, Curio Shoppe, the list goes on. But reading is for nerds. Go out and discover the world of Rogue Legacy 2.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been heralded as the best game of the generation and possibly the best Legend of Zelda game of all time. It comes as no surprise that Nintendo wanted to create a direct sequel, though just what form that will take remains unclear. A teaser trailer released at E3 2019 suggests that Zelda could be playable along with Link, and the world seems to be suffering from another calamity despite the destruction of Ganon. At E3 2021, Nintendo showed off more of this game, still referring to it as “the sequel to Breath of the Wild. ” The open-world design still remains, but players will now be able to venture to the skies above, similar to Skyward Sword. Finally, during the September 2022 Nintendo Direct, the sequel received a title, and it’s called Tears of the Kingdom. It’s gearing up for a May 2023 release after many years in development.

One of 2017’s absolute best games is getting a sequel in Hollow Knight: Silksong, and it’s headed to Nintendo Switch sometime in the future. It will take the stunning visuals, Metroidvania gameplay, and atmosphere of the original Hollow Knight and put you in the shoes (do these creatures wear shoes?) of Hornet, a princess who is tasked with protecting Hallownest. Silksong was announced last year, and we haven’t gotten much of an update on its development, but hopefully, we won’t have to wait much longer. If it’s half as good as the original, we’re all in for a treat.

This game is known for streamlining the series’ mechanics, as well as an approachable cast of characters, story, and gameplay loop. Although Persona 3 was a turning point for the series, Persona 4 Golden is often regarded as the most popular, at least at the time. Thankfully, players will get to experience this excellent JRPG on Nintendo Switch next year.

It will feature similar gameplay as the XCOM series, but with a few twists and turns that keep it separate from them. In it, you play as a new hero called The Hunter, who can be customized to your liking. But you can still fight alongside your favorite Marvel heroes, including Wolverine, Ghost Rider, and Iron Man. Best of all, it’s coming to Nintendo Switch, meaning you’ll be able to play it on the big screen or on the go. A version of this title launched on December 2 for other consoles and PC, but the Switch edition still doesn’t have a release date. We’re hoping it hits in 2023.

Since we’re on the topic of games we know nothing about, word of Metroid Prime 4 got out several years ago at an E3 Nintendo Direct presentation, but we haven’t heard anything from Nintendo since. Supposedly, the game was still in the developing process at Bandai Namco. Still, the game was not advancing as quickly as Nintendo expected, and it was thus scrapped and restarted with Metroid Prime trilogy creator Retro Studios taking the wheel. We don’t know if the game will launch in the next few years, but we do know one thing: Metroid fans are great at waiting. Otherwise, they may get stuck with another game like Other M, and no one wants that.

How to change the edition of Windows, keeping the settings and installed programs — Vadim Sterkin

If you have been using one of the lower editions of Windows for some time, you may have thought about upgrading it to a more beautiful and functional system.

This article shows you the easiest way to upgrade your edition of Windows without losing your familiar working environment. In this case, you only need a product key. It also describes how to downgrade Windows 7 while keeping all settings and programs using a product key and installation disc.

Windows 10

In general, upgrading Windows 10 is achieved by installing a higher edition on top. In some cases, you can get away with just entering the product key. Microsoft has detailed documentation in two articles, although the Russian translation in them is machine-made. For each article, I will give the main theses.

Summary table of upgrade paths for different versions and editions of Windows

  • Upgrade only available (Home → Pro or Home → Education)
  • Enterprise LTSC can only be upgraded to Enterprise or later Enterprise LTSC
  • Downgrade with saving files, but loss of programs and settings is possible for Pro → Home and Education → Enterprise

Ways to upgrade and downgrade various editions of Windows 10

  • In almost all cases, entering the appropriate edition key in Settings or from the command line (changepk) works
  • In some cases, even a reboot is not required (Pro → Education or Pro ← → Enterpise)
  • Downgrading to earlier versions (1809 → 1803) is not possible except for rollback
  • Supported scenarios for downgrading to lower editions when the license expires

Bonus! How to upgrade from LTSC edition to Pro while keeping programs and settings.

Windows 7

Important note about Windows 7 versions

You can only upgrade or downgrade Windows 7 using the installation disc if any of these conditions are met:

  • SP1 integrated in installation disc (recommended)
  • SP1 is not installed on the OS and is not integrated into the installation disk

Otherwise, you will receive a message that the system being installed has an older version than the current one.

Upgrading Windows 7 edition

Here is the Start menu of a freshly installed Windows 7 Home Basic.

Item Windows Anytime Upgrade (WAU) is also available from the Control Panel, so you will always find it by searching in all editions except Ultimate. By the way, WAU is the only officially supported way to upgrade the edition of Windows.

You will need : product key.

Which editions can be upgraded

With WAU, you can upgrade any edition very quickly, except for the «Ultimate» edition, of course. The table lists all possible Windows 7 update paths.

current edition Can be upgraded to
Initial Home Advanced, Professional, Ultimate
Home basic Home Advanced, Professional, Ultimate
Home Extended Professional, Ultimate
Professional Maximum

How to change the edition

Launch WAU and enter the product key. It can be purchased here by paying with a credit card, although this only works for some countries. However, nothing prevents you from buying a key in the Microsoft store or in the well-known Internet stores AllSoft.ru and SoftKey.ru.

The system needs to be updated before changing the edition, so WAU will automatically download all fixes after your approval. Nothing more is required of you, except for a little patience.

The process involves even less fiddling than reinstalling over an installed system, although the same approach is used, including saving data.

Tip

To speed things up, do a disk cleanup first. For people with a small system partition or a large amount of personal files, Windows may upset with a message about the lack of space on the system partition. In this case, it is enough to transfer the files to another partition or external drive.

Windows Server 2008 R2 upgrade

Server systems do not have Windows Anytime Upgrade, but DISM does.

 Dism /online /Set-Edition:Datacenter /ProductKey:12345-67890-12345-67890-12345

This path is only available for server systems. To be honest, I haven’t tested the command in practice, so let me know if it doesn’t work.

Similar commands can be applied to offline images, which can be found in full detail in the help.

Windows 7 edition downgrade

There may be legitimate reasons for downgrading an edition. For example, you want to upgrade from pirated Windows 7 Ultimate to licensed Home Premium, which you received as a gift for good behavior. At the same time, you do not want to reconfigure the system and programs.

In principle, in this way it is possible not only to lower, but also to increase the edition. However, the second is more convenient to do with WAU.

You will need :

  • installation disc with the edition you want to install
  • product key matching edition

Why doesn’t the edition change by updating the system work?

Windows Setup checks the current edition before changing it, so the upgrade will be blocked during the compatibility check.

The message outlines a supported path, albeit not a very convenient one. However, there is also a shorter workaround, although not officially supported.

Warning

I don’t know if this method violates the sacred EULA. In any case, I am providing information solely for the purpose of demonstrating that the system update mechanism built into Windows can work for edition upgrades and downgrades.

Edition change process

The TechNet library clearly states that reinstallation over an installed system is possible only within the current edition. This implies a workaround: in order for the mechanism to work, you need to change the edition of the installed system to the one you are going to install.

  1. Open Registry Editor and go to
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
  2. Change the value of parameter EditionID to match the system being installed.
    Valid Windows 7 values:
     Enterprise
    Ultimate
    professional
    HomePremium
    HomeBasic
    Starter

This is enough to pass the compatibility check.

  3. Run setup.exe from the installation disk and start the installation (you can install the missing updates along the way).
  4. Select Update as the installation type.
    Enlarge picture

Upon completion of the installation process, you will have at your disposal a new edition with all the programs and settings of the previous one.

Discussion

If you have any questions about the material, I will be happy to answer them. I assume that there will be few of them, so I want to discuss two other points.

Which edition of Windows 7 are you using?

To be honest, for my daily work, «Home Extended» would be enough. However, for blogging and responding to the forum, «Maximum» is more suitable for me. Moreover, it is more convenient to use it as the main working system than to keep it on a virtual machine.

If you voted for one of the first two points, tell us about the features of the «Maximum» that you need and do not have in the lower editions .

Do you have experience reinstalling Windows 7 over an existing OS?

I’ve reinstalled over the top multiple times on both virtual and physical machines, and the update mechanism worked flawlessly. Therefore, I boldly recommend this method in the forum when the standard set of solutions does not fix a system problem.

However, some participants take this proposal with hostility — they say that reinstallation is not an acceptable solution. In XP it was, but in Windows 7 you can not wait for the weather by the sea, but fix the problem within half an hour.

Have you ever reinstalled Windows 7 over? Have you encountered any problems? Tell us about your experience!

Voting results have been lost due to the termination of the poll web service.
