Are you jumping back into the Stronghold franchise with Stronghold: Warlords and looking for some of the best tips and tricks? While Warlords has a lot of the same mechanics as the originals that many fans love, we’ve got some advice to help you out. Ranging from basic RTS tips to useful tricks for taking advantage of mechanics. Continue reading below for the guide. And if you’re looking for a review, we have one here too.

Tip 1 – How to Keep Your Popularity Up
Tip 2 – Take Advantage of the Warlord System
Tip 3 – How to See Food Consumption and Production
Tip 4 – Build Enormous Armies
Tip 5 – Save Often in Stronghold: Warlords
Tip 6 – How to Set Hotkeys
Tip 7 – You Can’t Get Resources Outside the Map
Tip 8 – Buying Resources is a Gamechanger
Tip 9 – Learning to Kite Enemies
Tip 10 – Follow the Campaign Objectives

Tip 1 – How to Keep Your Popularity Up

A major mechanic in Stronghold has always been managing your popularity so you can tax your people higher. If you want more gold, your best bet is raising taxes. Those familiar with Stronghold games will already handle well, but a few mechanics have changed slightly. Take a look at these bullets below for tips.

  • Producing multiple food types and/or increasing rations.
  • Placing Temples near buildings for Spirituality bonuses.
  • Providing tea at a Tea House via plantations.
  • Higher quality housing.
  • Positive fear factor structures.

Tip 2 – Take Advantage of the Warlord System

Hence the name of the game, you’ll want to take advantage of the new warlord system. Regardless of whether you’re playing the campaign or a skirmish match, they can make a significant impact. The campaign often forces you to use warlords for resources or building an army.

A neat mechanic mentioned in our review is that you can capture warlords peacefully or forcefully. By using Embassy buildings, you gain a diplomacy currency. This helps with capturing warlords if you’re not confident in your military.

Tip 3 – How to See Food Consumption and Production

Keeping track of your food consumption and production is important so you don’t lose popularity suddenly. By moving your mouse cursor over each food type at the bottom right corner, you can see these stats. This helps with understanding whether your current farms are keeping up or not.

As you continue to build your castle, you’ll need more people, housing, and then food. This is a significant part of the economic cycle in Stronghold: Warlords. Never feed people extra rations if you can’t tax them more heavily. Otherwise, you’re wasting food.

Tip 4 – Build Enormous Armies

This tip applies more to the campaign and skirmishes with AI, since players are a whole different game. Building massive armies are a great way to make sure you’re prepared for a fight or siege. However, the campaign missions love to throw enemies at you consistently. This can make it difficult to amass a large army while fighting them off. But, you always want to make sure you’re well prepared if you have the means to do so.

Tip 5 – Save Often in Stronghold: Warlords

You may see the occasional auto-save in skirmishes, but don’t trust these. Unless they’re fixed at a later time, I haven’t seen a way to load them. This is why it’s important to save every so often, especially in the campaign. Nobody wants to lose their progress or have to start all over again.

Tip 6 – How to Set Hotkeys

Setting hotkeys in Stronghold: Warlords is a great way to speed up certain processes. All you need to do to set them is select a building or group of units and press ctrl+any number. For example, clicking the stockpile, then pressing ctrl+1 at the same time, will set that hotkey.

Anytime you press 1 will now show your stockpile at the bottom. And tapping it twice brings you to the stockpile. My immediate go-to hotkeys are the stockpile, granary, armory, and the barracks. These hotkeys help with buying/selling resources and recruiting more units more easily.

Tip 7 – You Can’t Get Resources Outside the Map

This may seem like an obvious tip since you can’t build outside the map. However, you may be tempted to place woodcutting stations near trees on the border. If they’re not on your side of the grid, your workers won’t chop them, unfortunately. So make sure you don’t place woodcutters too far from trees they can chop. Otherwise, they’ll take longer to reach their station and the stockpile for depositing wood

Tip 8 – Buying Resources is a Gamechanger

Using the market to buy resources and weapons can save a lot of time if you have gold to spend. While a lot of campaign missions restrict what you can buy, it starts to open up further in. However, skirmishes are where you can really take advantage of the market.

This makes a massive impact early on when you need cheap resources like wood. But it doesn’t stop there, you can also buy weapons and armor for quick units to pad out your army. Or perhaps you have excess stone and iron you’re not using that can be sold.

Tip 9 – Learning to Kite Enemies

Kiting enemies is a common trick in RTS games where an enemy follows you as you attack them. You can usually prevent them from hitting you, gaining a huge advantage. While horse archers are best for this in Stronghold: Warlords, you can do it with any unit type.

A useful strategy is to barrage enemies with archers, while quicker melee types flank archers or siege units. Specialized ninjas are especially great for flanking siege units due to their invisibility. Also, you can get away with distracting slow armored AI units using spearmen.

Tip 10 – Follow the Campaign Objectives

If you’re playing the Stronghold: Warlords campaign, follow the objectives. I’ve made the mistake countlessly of preparing for a big siege only to realize that’s not the goal. Sometimes the objective is to build an army and once you do, the mission ends. So try to follow the objectives as closely as you can so as to not waste your own time. I know it’s a silly tip, but, you’ll get what I mean if you play the campaign.

Advice (Tips and tactics for the game)

Probably every player knows that in this game the most expensive tower is round, it’s true, but not the most efficient, in fact the best and most efficient tower is a square tower, this tower, as it were, closes people from arrows from above with a wooden roof, for example, from horse archers who mostly shoot from above and not from the bottom, as most of the other archers do, while the round tower, on the contrary, has the entire top open, so people sitting on it are more vulnerable to archers.

If you want a lot of food, then do this: put a couple of wheat fields in the game 4 mills a bunch of bakeries.

And I also do this on some missions:
Build a castle as close as possible to the signpost from where the enemy soldiers come out. But not at the very last point, but a little further away so that you can make fortifications of the castle, especially towers are needed! Then, as soon as the enemy soldiers approach the sign, you will be able to fire at them even before they ungroup!

When an enemy’s castle is built, you can build some sawmills or ox tethers right at the entrance to the enemy’s castle so that the enemy cannot get out. He immediately destroys all the buildings outside and gradually — inside. In general, the entire economy leads into the far corner. But look: you need to furnish the entire entrance to the castle, because the enemy will eventually destroy his barbican. You can’t leave a slit!
I want to immediately warn everyone that such an experience can be carried out with many players, but with some it is not so simple. Sometimes Caliph, Wolf (if he built a huge castle with a moat), Rat break through the passage. But most often this technique is useless over the Serpent and the Boar (50/50). For the rest, you don’t have to worry too much.

How to deal with easy opponents.
Rat. He has a castle without moats, with smooth walls, lightness. We set up a siege tower or a brigade of assassins, send a gang of rockers to the walls (i.e. infantrymen — they are in leather jackets and have a cool expression!), We wet the weaklings of the rat, climb his castle and wet him himself.
Snake. it’s a little more complicated here. The walls are crooked — you can’t adjust the tower, the ditches are uneven, to the fig of the lookmen. We drive the darkness of siege workers, climb the walls with rockers, arrange a brawl and the walls are clear!
If you approach from the side, you can capture the barbican with assassins, after which the same thing — we take the castle by storm and chop its inhabitants into pieces.
Sultan. The walls are crooked, so the siege usually does not help.
Again, either capture the barbican with assassins, or send siege worker rockers to the walls. There is such a nuance here: as soon as the barbican is captured, a crowd of swordsmen comes out to you, so you need to keep your pickmen or swordsmen ready. Further, we do not climb through the yard — flamethrowers. We clean the walls and send a herd of crossbowmen to them. The fact is that the central castle of the Sultan will be completely clogged with slingers and grim kids, through which, however, it is difficult for pickmen to break through. Abalets mow them all down and your army storms the Sultan’s castle.
Boar. Here the matter is more complicated. There is no descent from the walls, they do not contact the towers, siege towers are meaningless. It is more rational to capture the barbican with assassins or break through the wall with catapult rams, bring the army into the gap (beware of narrowness — wolf pits!), Soak a gang of boar rockers and himself. It is not advisable to go in a crowd, otherwise you will lose too many people in the pits.
Yes, funny. The other day I break through the wall of the Kaban’s castle with catapults, bring in 70 pickmen, at this moment the barbican opens and a horde of Kaban’s rockers runs past my army, rushing to my castle, where they were snapped from crossbows.
Another joke. To take the shooters into an attack means to doom them to certain death. Enemy bowmen and crossbowmen mow down the shooters first. Me, when I play against several. I leave opponents, bowmen and crossbows in the castle — to guard, I send pickmen, rockers, inzhiks to attack.
Can’t provide tutorials when playing with Wolf, Saladin, Richard, because I have an Atlon AMD K6/450 processor five years ago :[==]
Thank you for your attention!!!

My secret goes very well with the caliphs.
Just put a sawmill or an ox tether close to the place where the peasants gather. If he sends an Arab. swordsmen try again and everything is OK.
When the caliph puts fire ballistas, put sawmills right next to them and they will burn.

As for food, with the help of wheat fields and bakeries, I completely agree.
Now about the defense.
I hardly build walls. very rarely ever. I put big towers, square or round, I fill them to capacity with archers, and I put a couple of swordsmen on the stairs. As a rule, the enemy does not reach the towers.
There are levels when the enemies are close enough to each other. In this case, it will be successful to stick your big tower as close as possible to the enemy’s castle, ONLY YOU NEED TO DO THIS IN THE FIRST MINUTES OF THE GAME. We quickly hire archers and hammer the tower. ALL, the enemy castle is paralyzed. Later, the tower is supplied with a catapult and then the castle ends.
Attack.
I attack with mounted archers. Large hormada 100 — 150 head. plus 30 swordsmen and a pair of three catapults.
Option 1:
Mounted archers sweep away everything from the towers and paralyze the castle, break through the walls with catapults and collapse the towers. sword bearers falls chief.
Option 2:
Using catapults under the cover of an armada of horse archers, we destroy most of the towers with enemy archers, and then Option 1.
By the way, catapults and tribuchettes shoot further if they «Attack the terrain» do not shoot to the enemy’s castle, attack the area in front of the castle and you will crush the castle with flights.
By the way, in this game the computer plays along with our opponents. namely, in the sense that if you have an ally, the main blow will still be delivered to you and your buildings will be demolished first of all.
Good luck.

Food in missions is not required at all, for this you need to build three breweries and wait until the population coverage reaches 100% and click on do not give out on the abar, but to hold ale you need three hop mills and three breweries.

There is such a trick here, the assassins, although they are mercenaries, they awesomely tick the swordsmen, but against the pickmen they are just a useless transfer of money, hence the conclusion to fill up the wolf and richard, the assassins are irreplaceable fighters. You can earn money in a very simple way, you put a lot of quarries and a lot of ox leashes, because it is known that the stone is recruited exponentially, but that’s half the battle, the main money can be earned on iron, you won’t especially need it because it takes a long time to produce an army, but to buy weapons by selling iron very quickly, the main thing is to competently make deposits with mines so that they fit as many as possible.
P.S. iron is not required anywhere else except for the production of weapons.

My tactics are quite simple.
I build 200-250 horse archers, completely destroy the enemy’s warriors and then 7-9 asanins are enough for the lord, oh yes, first I build horse archers and send them and when the enemy has no warriors other than the lord, I outline the goal-lord, and then I make assassins.
Works when the enemy is far from you, if he is close and 1, then for all the money of the assassins and that’s it!

Well, this is how I do it: so that the enemies do not use catapults and break walls, I complete the construction of the castle and make a gap and from it a labyrinth inside the castle.
I fill the whole labyrinth with wolf pits and put a couple of engineers with bales on the walls of the labyrinth. oil. And there must be a way out of the labyrinth.

This bug is suitable for battles against Saladin, Richard the Lionheart and the Wolf — for lovers of a long game and competent siege.
When towers are destroyed, often in their place there are blockages and debris that do not have a life line and are completely destroyed with a single shot by a stone from a catapult or trebuchet. If such a change has occurred with the enemy tower (and this sometimes cannot be done), you can cancel the shelling of this place and put everything as it is — the enemy will not be able to destroy this one, and build a new tower in its place. The ruins will disappear for the rest of the game.
Such a technique, as I already said, helps in the fight against Saladin, Volcombe, Richard the Lionheart and a number of other opponents, thus disabling the long-range system of balistas and mangonels located on the enemy’s square and round towers and additionally not giving the placement of troops .

1. When you fight against a rat or a snake then (if you have more than 2000 money and the enemy has no allies such as Wolf, Boar, Richard or Caliph), then at the very beginning of the game you build a barn, a mercenary camp and hire 30-50 Arab swordsmen, you send them to the enemy.
2. In that mission when you are one on one with Saladin, first build a barn, then an armory, a stone barracks and a market. Buy 10(15) swords and 10(15) armor, hire 10(15) crusaders and attack Saladin. The attack doesn’t always go well. Everything must be done quickly, while Saladin has not yet completed the castle.
3. If you want to accumulate money, then build not intimidation, but the opposite of intimidation … I forgot what they are called. Then build a hop shop, a brewery, an inn. It will also affect popularity. After that, you can set taxes moderate or high.
4. It is better to attack any strong opponent like this: 100-150 horse archers (I even used 250 for Caliph once), another 50-70 foot soldiers (they are fast) or strong crusaders in place of them, 20-30 knights can be (while the rest is crawling army, they will destroy the barbican, and the barn, and the dwellings, and everything, everything, everything that you order them) and a few fire balistas (they can start a fire in the city).

There is another effective way to bring down the Saladins:
Their main problem is in the city. They build buildings very close. we do this: we drive the ballista and beat the mercenary camp until it ignites. after it flares up, and while the firefighters reach him — the whole city is engulfed in devilish fire) the main joke is that in the place of the burnt houses — he builds new ones, thereby supporting the fire. after his army burns down, he cuts off firemen and hires soldiers, thereby depriving himself of the only chance of salvation from the fire.
now units: The most effective units are infantrymen (metalists, rockers, etc.). they are fast and the damage is not weak. besides, they dig ditches very well))))))). the most ineffective — archers: damage FULL D….. BUT. ideal for storming towers — fire balists. destroy all life.
The effectiveness of locks depends on what you want. if you need a castle with a solid Economy, small castles are quite effective. there are few people — they eat little.
But my most successful locks are huge. It’s really hard to get me there. BUT there is a minus: it is extremely difficult to protect such castles. so basically I put guards where they attack.
But from the point of view of online war — Small castles are effective, or large ones but with a GIANT moat. while they dig it up — the Mangoels will take care of it…
For more interest — you need to use a hand-drawn map + 6 computer opponents that will interfere with both of you. the most savvy wins)
the most stupid map for PVP — ford. verified: 6 mangoels and 10 ballistas smash ANY army.

I have a double tactic
1 tactic (for Rat, Snake, Sultan) Stamp 50 pcs. rockers, you can have 30 more assassins, if there is no money, you can also monks, the infantry is already ready then 50 archers and 20 crossbowmen, well, there you can also have a couple of catapults or rams and the castle is taken. If you want to lose fewer troops, wait for the attack, immediately counterattack after it is defeated, or if there is free space near the camp castle, then you can take them not far to his castle and as soon as he goes to attack, you can already send your soldiers.

2 tactics are slightly different for each (Caliph, Boar, Richard, Wolf, Saladin).

Caliph: you stamp 20 catapults and 20 fire balistas, 50-100 horses. archers, 50-80 rockers and, in principle, nothing more is needed, the main thing before the attack is to build a lot of bring with bulls near his castle and the ditches will be destroyed and you can even in the castle and maybe it will catch fire.

Boar: you stamp 20 catapults and 20 fire ballists, 50-80 rockers and 50 crossbowmen with 20 archers in one pack and the Boar will not survive.

Richard: it’s very easy with him, because he locked himself in his castle and sits until you break through the barbican, and for this it’s better to burn the city with fire ballists after neutralizing the archers on the walls and towers and bring the crossbowmen down. 30 and his crusaders will die, and after they start the rockers and the castle is taken. By the way, it is better to remove the defense from walls and towers. archers.

Wolf: one of the most formidable opponents, but not for me, it just takes a long time to play with him. I usually churn out 50 catapults (because they won’t leave a stone on this creature’s fortress), then 40 fire balistas, pcs. 100 con. archers, 30-40 crossbowmen and 50-100 rockers. With such a number of warriors, I took out 4 Wolves.

Saladin: in my opinion the best fighter and he runs a good farm, but his household is his main defeat, since I will burn all his bakeries and breweries. ballistas. I usually stamp 150-250 con. archers (once I made 350), 80 rockers, 30-40 crossbowmen, 20 catapults and 20 fire balistas and pcs. 20-30 knights and then he will not fight back.

Stop bear attacks:
If you see a bear or hear about a bear attack, build a wall around it and it will soon die. Or order the archers to kill him — this is the easiest way to stop the bears and keep the population safe.

Rapid elimination of enemies:
To eliminate enemies, collect as many archers as you can on the wall in front of the indicator. Even a small number of them can destroy a fairly large army.

Endless stones and cows for siege weapons.
To start the siege, you need some gold to work. When the catapults and need to expel the stones and cows, take the following actions:
1) Get the engineers out of the car and take them to a safe place.
2) Select a squad of spearmen. Direct them to the castle and determine how far the defenders are shooting. Mark this place.
3) With only one engineer, start building catapults and chimneys behind the line of fire. But put one catapult under fire, thereby you will attract all the enemy’s fire to it and lose only one of it.
4) In the garden machines, 20 stones and 2 cows. When you run out of this stock, order the engineers to build a new catapult or more, and you will again have 20 stones and 2 cows.
5) Repeat this as much as necessary. Using this method, you can completely destroy the lock. Then you just need to kill the remaining infantry.

Well, in general, my tactics are simple. First, the development of the castle, we strengthen everything, we hire soldiers and so on. I build 5-7 square towers, drive 30-35 archers on them and put on a ballista. Of course, if I’m fighting a strong opponent, I can’t do without a MOAT WITH OIL (it helps with the siege of a large army on your castle). With a zhrachka, everything is simple for me. If it is not possible to build bakeries, etc., then I make do with apples, cheese and meat. In the end, let’s move on to the army. The army is simple. I speak honestly. Build 10 archery workshops. 5 for armor (metal) and 5 for swords. Then I start a massive recruitment of troops. I get money for the Army simply. Stone, iron (if there is a surplus of stone and iron), sometimes I sell a zhrachka. So then I’m making an archer army.
I make 750 lukars (enough for the throat) of course 15 catapults and a couple of fireballs. I burn everything that is outside the castle of the enemy. I let these 750 archers to the castle (I don’t put the whole bunch in one place, I put 750 archers from all 4 sides of the castle if it’s realistic) further bumble the gates of the wall and use the heavy artillery of the Swordsmen. 125 pcs is enough. Well, then it’s easier. He sent them to the lord (if he does not have defenders nearby), but it’s already easier there, they bring him down, of course, without any problems, that’s all. Victory.
I used this tactic during the war with the Wolf.

Do you want walls to be HUGE? No problem, go to the editor, select a picture with a tree, make a plain, go to where to build a castle, build a wall (on a plain) go to a tree, remove the plain and the wall is big.

A simple piece of advice for keeping the enemy in development.
From the very beginning of the game, go to the enemy’s castle and build your armory, or rather a well on the site of the enemy barracks or armory. The enemy always puts them in the same place. Then you can hire 30-40 assassins and destroy the enemy… or just continue to quietly develop until the enemy takes him down.
ATTENTION!!! all actions must be done as quickly as possible! Most effective in a 1v1 fight. Before you act, carefully examine the enemy’s castle.

At the beginning of the mission, you can spend some money and buy a dozen crossbows and leather chain mail, create 10 crossbowmen and build one turret — this is very useful when fighting the Caliphs … They have a habit of sending a bunch of slaves — and they are very crap, so you need them kick…

We take a dozen archers and drive them to a distance where they attack the enemy on the towers, but at the same time they themselves are outside the zone of enemy fire. There is no need to immediately deal with all the soldiers on the towers, because there are still a lot of soldiers on the walls with whom this technique does not work. Here we do it as follows: we select a soldier on the tower for the attack and immediately “click” on the villain who has taken cover behind the fortress wall, into which arrows begin to fly, although the unit is outside the firing zone.

If you want to protect the archers in the castle from mounted archers, place a portable shield on the tower or barbican.

My tactics:
As for the farm, everything is simple here: I make 4 grains, 2 mills and 12 bakeries (or even more), and, if possible, I build cowsheds, not so much because of food, but because of leather armor . If there is no oasis nearby, then I go without food by building all kinds of churches and setting the “reverence” parameter to “+5”. The people, of course, but do not require bread.

Castle:
Making square towers. If the enemy is close — mangonels, if far away — ballistas. I put a crowd of crossbowmen or, in extreme cases, archers on them. 5 shooters, 5 skinners, 5 pikemen, 10 armorers, 5 forges, 2 layers of simple and 1 layer of additional walls + a moat. It seems to be everything.

Troop:
I take 70 pikemen, 60 swordsmen and 100 horse archers to attack the walls from enemy shooters.

Tactics:
Rat, Snake, Sultan, Richard and Boar — it’s not difficult. The rest will have to sweat.
Caliph: His army is not a serious threat, however, it is difficult to take his castle because of the oil. Well, it’s either sawmills or live meat.
Saladin: Wise ruler, good at fighting, but his castle is very easy to take by destroying the towers and setting fire to the city.
Wolf: this is, in my opinion, the most difficult opponent, as he builds very tricky castles. But he also has weaknesses. He does not dig a ditch in all places.

Do you want to kill Saladin the wise? Then take 12 catapults and let’s beat its towers, when the ruins remain, go to another tower and also beat it, and so on until we take out all the towers. Then we attack with 50/100 crossbowmen and remove all his warriors from the walls, dig up the ditch with slaves and then the Assassins warm up everything easily and simply.

If you are playing with someone in an alliance and you have little land for apple orchards and oil mills and allies have placed them throughout the oasis, then you can destroy them: select assassins or swordsmen and select «knife» in the bottom left corner and immediately we also click on the ally’s building that you want to destroy. And build your buildings.

My tactics against wolves: well, firstly, the main disadvantage of wolves is the slow construction of the castle (if there is no stone on the map, then they can build a castle for 500 years). Therefore, I like to destroy them in the 1st minute of the game.
30-40 (sometimes 20) Arabian horsemen and 10-15 assassins were enough for me, I need to build a mercenary camp and a barn immediately at the beginning of the game. Immediately hire horsemen, fire at the enemy, and then finish off with assassins (in this way I destroyed 7 allied wolves, 2 at the beginning and 5 having developed).

My castle defense:
I build walls and towers only sometimes (long) instead I hire 50 Arab horsemen and put them in a convenient place, moving them to the advancing enemy at the right time (it is beneficial to run horsemen in a circle around enemy infantrymen preventing them from approaching ), but how to take fortresses without me they wrote.

Track down where the enemy will build a granary, barracks, engineering barracks. Then you restart the mission and put a cross or something for the population in those places (a flower bed, a gallows, etc.). Bottom line: the enemy will not be able to build anything in the place where you put your inventory. All this must be done very intelligently. In this way, I went through all 25 of the last missions.

Almost invulnerable soldiers on the walls: 2 layers of low, 1 layer of high, 3-5 layers of serrated.
Beginning of the game: build 1-2 square towers, place ballistas and archers. It is better to dig an impenetrable ditch at the beginning, grabbing grass and stone (if any). When playing online on the walls, it is better to put archers interspersed with crossbowmen.

Why so many horse archers against the «pig»? 60 enemy crossbowmen will easily take down your mounted archers! First, place quarries everywhere. Wherever possible! Iron doesn’t hurt either! Then set up barracks for mercenaries and hire 100 assassins. If the pig sees them, he will immediately give a tear! Then build 7 catapults and 50 horse archers to protect them. Well, bomb them! Deal with an end! Increase your wheats and bakeries along the way — you won’t need other products. And money can be received due to a large number of stones!

I do not agree with all the advice on tactics. I recommend for beginners. To feed a lot of peasants, one mill and several bakeries are enough. The main thing is that they are not far from the warehouse. The less workers have to walk, the faster they grind or bake. Another very important aspect! If a stone or iron (or the most expensive resource available on the map) is far from the warehouse, you need to sell everything from the warehouse, and destroy the warehouse (mace in the menu). Now you can build a new warehouse anywhere, that is, near the desired resource. The closer the warehouse is to stone or iron, the faster the raw materials will be delivered to the warehouse. It is also important that the peasants are afraid of you (to intimidate to the limit! They will work at 150 percent. And in order not to run away, you need to give them ale to drink and always monitor the level of popularity). It is best to fight with crossbowmen. The most effective soldiers. Checked many times. I personally like to play longer, raise the maximum army and become the dominant lord on the map. Therefore, I always start with defense, and who can’t wait to win right away — there is a trick. A simple tactic against any enemy is a lot of crossbowmen and catapults (from 5 pieces in a group — a terrible weapon against heavy knights and against any siege equipment. And preferably a group of 10 pieces). There are situations when enemies attack at the same time. Everyone is already familiar with this. A moat with water (an effective means of defense), and behind it on a wall or tower — a brazier and a couple of archers near it. We pour oil behind the moat, and then we bury the moat — at the same time we immediately send infantry to dig it in a backfilled place. Enemies see that there is a passage through the ditch — and send all the soldiers there. By the time they arrive, the ditch is dug again, but they will not react to this (as a rule), they will run up and crowd where the oil is poured. Your archers set fire to the oil — and the whole army burns down. Well, and so on.

If you have built a large square or round tower and you want to place many archers there, then you should do this: take an army of archers or crossbowmen, or other soldiers … Let’s say you took 80 crossbowmen, then break this crowd into equal parts, but no more than 25 soldiers in each unit, maybe less. Place them at a distance from the tower where you are going to throw them, then, selecting one part, send them to the tower (BUT BEFORE YOU SEND THE LAST PART, THE FIRST PART SHOULD NOT BE ON THE TOWER YET, IN other words, IT SHOULD NOT BE IN TIME THERE BEFORE REFERRAL OF THE LAST). Thus, all 80 crossbowmen fit on one tower. 80 is not the limit, more is possible.

Towers with such a volume of soldiers are effectively placed on the defensive against Richard and the Wolf, since they send out a lot of iron infantry … And against the caliph, since he sends out a lot of light infantry …

I noticed that some of the players do not really respect fortresses in the direct sense of the word (thick walls, ditches, symmetrical shapes, etc. ). Very in vain, especially since — and I’m almost sure of this — they did not even really try. So, the fortress in the game is a really cool thing. First, it’s more interesting. All the pathos and romance of the medieval way of life in the game are immediately felt more acutely. Secondly, it is really easier to defend. All important buildings are inside, the enemy is at a glance, warriors instantly run from the citadel to any tower (by the way, craftsmen and workers too) due to the symmetry and small dimensions of the castle. Thirdly, you learn to save space. At first it’s hard, but after a few missions a clear algorithm of actions is developed, and everything goes like clockwork. Well, the opponents, which is cool, no longer annoy with small raids. Sieges are less common, but more beautiful and with the participation of large enemy troops, which are no longer a hindrance at all (see paragraph 1.) In short, just try — you will understand everything yourself!

Stronghold Crusader secrets and tips

How much time do you spend on completing one (even the simplest mission)? 20-30 minutes, and sometimes an hour or two! The secret of speed passing (without codes and Artmoney) is this.

At the start of the mission, you should build a barn, 5-7 houses, a shop and a mercenary camp. Sell all the goods received (leave some food), and use all the money to hire assassins in the camp of mercenaries. After that, send them to the castle of an undeveloped enemy. Since he has not yet managed to make enough troops, there is a chance to kill the king and get at least 500 gold, and if there are several more opponents, you need to hire killers with all the money and send them to another king 🙂 This way you can destroy several opponents at once in a few minutes . Here is an example.

Not satisfied with the distance from the warehouse to the extraction site? There is a chance to shorten it. Here’s how it’s done for me.

During the game, remove the first tile (at the beginning of the mission) and all that you have built. Find the best place for a warehouse near the production of resources, and build a warehouse there. P.S. The highest income comes from the close proximity of the warehouse to the iron ore mining sites. Here is an example.

Don’t know who to choose as your allies?

I can advise «Pig». There are many benefits to this.

  1. In alliance with PIG, you will never feel hungry, because during the game you can repeatedly demand a large amount of cheese from him.
  2. He is good in terms of combat tactics.
  3. He almost never refuses a request for a joint attack on the enemy.

If the castle is built as close as possible to the pointer where the enemy soldiers come from. But not at the very last point, but a little further away so that you can make fortifications of the castle, especially towers are needed! Then, as soon as the enemy soldiers approach the sign, you will be able to fire at them even before they ungroup!

1. First, if you are afraid of an imminent attack, you can reduce the speed of the game, this is done by pressing (digital) «+» and «-«. Then, you need to build about 8 sawmills located, the closer to the trees the better, but do not forget that they can be destroyed during enemy attacks, so it would be better if they are closer to your castle. You will need wood to build buildings and some weapons.

2. Immediately after that, you need to increase the warehouse (at least four times), otherwise you will not be able to put resources into it until you spend those that are.

3. The next thing you need to build a barn, so that people are fed and satisfied :-), ie. to maintain popularity, which must be at least 100, otherwise, people will start leaving you, and there will be no one to work.

4. Be sure to build houses (4 pieces to start), otherwise there will be problems with the population again.

5. After that, you need to take care of what you will feed them. It’s up to you, well, I think the best thing to build is the following:

  • mill, for grain processing;
  • grain farm (2-3 units), for harvesting wheat;
  • and bakeries, for baking bread (about 4 or more).

You can also build either apple orchards, or dairy farms or hunting huts, if they are available to you, note that you will need more of them than grain farms. As the variety of food increases, the popularity increases.

6. If you are preparing for an imminent enemy attack, then I can advise the following.

  • Since the best shooting units in this game are the crossbowmen, it’s best to start with them. To do this, you need to build an armory, a stone barracks and a market.
  • After that, depending on how much money you have, you need to buy crossbows and leather armor in order to hire crossbowmen.
  • And after that, build the towers that you send them to, 2-3 should be enough for a start.
  • It is also desirable to install ballistas on the towers to protect against siege weapons and you can still put shields there.

Well, and further along the play, provide yourself with a stone, build pubs and all they need for a day is a brewery (preferably 2) and a hop mill. You build a shooter’s workshop, where you choose crossbows and a leather workshop, you also need to build a dairy farm for it, otherwise, where would he get the skin from :-). Don’t forget about the taxes that people have to pay you for all the amenities.

I hope you know how to develop further, so I turn to the siege of castles.

There are many ways, you can’t write everything, especially since it all depends on the design of the enemy’s castle, on his defense and, of course, on who you play with. In general, the main thing in strategy, if you play with a person, is a non-standard approach, but there are things that are useful to know.
