Real-time Strategy Restored

Command the mechanized Terrans, psi-powered Protoss, and insectoid Zerg as they vie for map control of eight unique environments. Build your base and conscript your army in a real-time, military sci-fi vision of the future.

Once you’ve finished the campaign, go head-to-head or team up with other players online. Pit StarCraft’s iconic, radically-different races against one another in the ultimate theater of war.

The ancient Protoss live in harmony, connected to one another by the eternal psionic bond known as the Khala. They exiled the dissident individualists among them to the cold darkness of space long ago. Now, Protoss society has risen to unparalleled greatness, but their rigid hierarchy inspires rebellion, as the young Executor Artanis, dispatched to find his missing predecessor on a Zerg-infested planet, will shortly discover.

Strengths
  • Individually powerful units and abilities make every Protoss unit a significant piece on the battlefield.
  • Half of a Protoss’ health is a defensive shield, which recovers over time.
  • A single worker can quickly create multiple buildings, then get back to harvesting.
Weaknesses
  • Protoss units are more expensive, on the whole, than other races’.
  • Protoss units and buildings cannot recover health.
  • Protoss must construct Pylons to power their buildings; if they are destroyed, those buildings are deactivated.

Subject: Tassadar

A noble High Templar, Tassadar has walked the Protoss planet of Aiur for centuries as both warrior and philosopher. Shortly before discovering Zerg activity in the Koprulu sector, Tassadar observed the movements of the Terran species; now, he wonders if they might have greater potential than to be unwitting victims of the Zerg or casualties of the Protoss armada.

Tassadar’s foremost duty is to the Conclave that rules his homeworld, but his compassion for lesser races may brand him a liability to the very people he has sworn to serve.

The Terrans are intrepid colonists, generations removed from Earth and governed by a failing Confederacy. Among the dilapidated fringe worlds, Marshal Jim Raynor joins up with a no-nonsense psionic assassin named Sarah Kerrigan and a group of aspiring freedom fighters to survive the destructive first contact of Protoss and Zerg. Soon, planets throughout the sector spiral into all-out war, and Raynor realizes he may have signed up for something much bigger than mere survival.

Strengths
  • Mobile buildings can be flown out of harm’s way, or used to scout.
  • Powerful defensive structures and units make a Terran base challenging for enemies to assault.
  • SCVs can repair buildings and mechanical units to full health very quickly.
Weaknesses
  • Large buildings make for tight confines in Terran bases.
  • Long build times and expensive technology.
  • Buildings at low health catch fire, and explode if they are not repaired.

Subject: Sarah Kerrigan

Sarah Kerrigan came of age in the Confederacy’s top-secret Ghost program: a government initiative that identified—and “recruited”—children with high psionic potential. After graduating from the cutthroat academy, she earned her canister rifle and light-refracting stealth suit, and served the Confederacy with distinction. But, when an anti-Confederate resistance group struck the facility where she’d been subject to torturous psionic experiments, Kerrigan defected.

Sarah has had many masters over her life. Her dedication and competence are clear, but her personal loyalties are hazy. It remains to be seen if her fellow soldiers can be truly loyal to her in turn.

After an age swarming on the fringes of the galaxy, the ravenous Zerg make their way to unfamiliar planets in a sparsely populated region of space called the Koprulu sector. They infest entire planets, consuming everything in their path. Yet behind their animal cunning lurks a sinister intelligence, pushing the creatures against the constraints of their genetics—and towards evolution…

Strengths
  • Zerg units and structures regenerate their health over time when escaping combat.
  • Many Zerg units can burrow to conceal themselves.
  • Zerg can produce large numbers of units quickly and inexpensively.
Weaknesses
  • To construct a building, a zerg player must sacrifice one of their workers.
  • Buildings can only be built on slow-spreading Creep.
  • Zerg need to build multiple defensive structures for protection.

Subject: The Overmind

As the singular “brain” of the Zerg, the titanic Overmind expanded and evolved its alien horde for centuries before humanity arrived in the Koprulu sector.

Though it exerts utter dominion over the single-minded Zerg, in recent years the Overmind has increasingly come to rely on its Cerebrates—communication specialists possessed of rudimentary personalities—to direct its many appendages. The emergence of these distinct beings amongst the unity of the hive hints at a broader vision for the future of the Swarm, and perhaps Terran and Protoss as well.

Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard buyout is finally a ray of hope for StarCraft fans

  ❘   Published: 2022-01-24T01:11:59

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is a massive step in the right direction for fans who want to see more from the StarCraft series.

StarCraft is one of Blizzard’s quintessential IPs, along with WarCraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. While players for those other games might complain of a content drought, it’s been absolutely barren for StarCraft fans for over half a decade.

That’s why Microsoft’s acquisition can only be a good thing — since the company actually knows what to do with an RTS.

StarCraft: From glory to backburner

Blizzard Entertainment

StarCraft is still one of the most popular RTS games around, but it’s been over a decade since SC 2 initially released.

The original StarCraft and its expansion Brood War were some of the most popular games of their generation after coming out in 1998. It would be another 12 years before we got StarCraft 2 in 2010.

Though not as popular as its predecessor, the sequel was popular as well and spawned multiple expansions (Heart of the Swarm & Legacy of the Void).

That being said though, 12 years on from SC 2’s release in 2010, and we haven’t heard a peep about the franchise from Blizzard in some time. Of course, the massive scandals hitting Activision Blizzard haven’t helped the probability of a new game, but even before that, any fan could tell you StarCraft definitely seemed to be an afterthought.

Microsoft buying out Activision Blizzard, and as a result all of their IPs, should give StarCraft fans hope though. The company has shown they know how to handle RTS titles, and they have a much better track record doing so compared to Blizzard in recent memory.

Microsoft could breathe new life into StarCraft

Blizzard Entertainment

At least StarCraft Remastered wasn’t the dumpster fire WarCraft: Reforged turned out to be.

Take, for example, the disaster that was and is WarCraft 3: Reforged, and compare it to Microsoft’s recent RTS release Age of Empires 4. Reforged was blasted by fans on release, and players still prefer to use the old version from more than 20 years ago if they can, rather than suffer through the disaster that is Reforged.

AoE 4 on the other hand, while not perfect, is both a fantastic homage to past games in the series and an entertaining RTS that’s been well-received since it came out in 2021.

Produced by Xbox Games Studios, AoE 4 shows that the appetite for a good real-time strategy game definitely still exists. Under Microsoft, Blizzard could finally have the resources to produce a high-quality RTS title instead of a blatant cash grab capitalizing on player nostalgia, which seems to have become the studio’s specialty in recent years.

Microsoft won’t acquire Activision Blizzard until the deal goes through in 2023, so we could have a few more years to wait for anything to happen with StarCraft. However, given the success of AoE 4, Microsoft just might be how this RTS titan gets back on its feet.

What have we come to?

Hello everyone, here I will tell you how the game, which was famous for being the best RTS, can live on?

As we know, the old Blizzards will not return, there is no point in waiting for major updates from them, maybe even updates at all

Does it even make sense then to continue playing like an esportsman? I think many have already thought about the fact that Starcraft will no longer become what it used to be, so a popular Russian-speaking YouTuber among the CIS on Starcraft immediately thought about it 2

Competition for the creation of 4 races from Alex007

It’s been one year since the last major update related to StarCraft 2. What have we got a year later? Only new cards for rating

That’s why Alex007 decided to launch a $1000 contest. You can see by clicking on the link

Alex has been playing 4-race games on his server for a month, and will also arrange a 4-race tournament next month. So, if you want to test your strength and show what you can do with a new race, then go ahead

New 2019 Season 4 Ranked Play Cards — StarCraft II — Blizzard News

StarCraft II

Blizzard Entertainment

With the start of Season 4 of 2019, new 1v1 and team play maps have been added to Ranked Play! Starting today, these cards can be tested in online play in the «Custom Game» section. Click on the images below to see them in detail. better suited for Legacy of the Void. This map even more diligently respects the principle of «a long route opens up more convenient positions.»

(2) Twilight RV

Twilight doesn’t feature anything out of the ordinary, but it’s still a well thought-out landscape suitable for many playstyles. There are destructible rubble near both possible third-base locations to help organize the defense early on. The «organic cyberpunk» style is combined here with bright shades of purple, pink and blue, which contrast well with the dark base textures.

(2) Simulacrum RV

This digital battlefield offers players the standard combination of narrow passages and wide spaces, as well as many points for additional bases. Organize the defense of the central bridges or seize control of the outlying bases on the hills, around which the main hostilities will unfold by the end of the game.

(2)Zen RV

This map is designed in the form of a classic rock garden with two koi ponds. Its key feature is narrow passages leading to additional bases. The first passage on each side offers a short and convenient attack path, but it is only one square wide (although mining will expand it). The second passage, six squares wide, leads to the third base, but two walls of minerals block the path halfway, leaving only one-tile windows. Because of this, massive armies will move extremely slowly until the minerals along the way are mined. In addition, on this map you can see special ledges in the form of columns.

(4) Heavy Artillery RV

It’s time to take on the big guns. Walls of minerals block the shortest paths to additional bases, and the paths to attack are difficult due to blockages. A feature of this map are poor mineral deposits that serve as obstacles on the slopes leading to additional bases.

(6) Augustine Cliff RV

On Augustine Cliff, one of the players of each team starts the game away from the allies, but special isolated zones connect the main bases. An additional base can be established either in a safe «pocket» or in a much more vulnerable forward position.

(8) PB Accord

Both teams have one easy-to-defend pass and plenty of expansion options. The main directions of attack in the early stages of the game are partially blocked by destructible blockages.

The final card list for Season 4 2019 will be:

  • Triton RV
  • Ephemeron RV
  • Sleeping World RV
  • Zen RV
  • Simulacrum RV
  • Night Twilight RV
  • Eternal Empire RV
  • Heavy Artillery RV
  • Divergence PB
