The next chapter of MobyGames!

Welcome to the new MobyGames! It’s the same database we’ve been curating over the past 24 years, but with an entirely rebuilt infrastructure, backend and frontend. We know it’ll take some time to get used to, and we are still refining things. It’s forever a work in progress, but now our rate of progress will be dramatically accelerated.

All data has been migrated, including:

  • 323,918 games across 311 platforms
  • 5,506,997 credits
  • 1,015,236 industry professionals
  • 45,642 companies
  • 746,299 images of cover art, media, packaging
  • 989,793 in-game screenshots taken by players
  • 894,894 images of promotional art

What’s new?

  • An infrastructure with vertical and horizontal scaling, automated testing, hot reload, atomic deploys
  • Perl backend replaced with Python
  • Built from scratch user interface for desktop and mobile
  • New search functionality, including search as you type
  • All new game browser that updates in place
  • Dark mode
  • Related games
  • More data! Including game rankings per platform and frequent collaborator data
  • Trending games, companies and industry professionals
  • Easier to rate, review, and collect games
  • Hotkeys
  • Estimated approval times for contributions
  • Updated contribution and approval tools, with more improvements on the way
  • Countless tweaks, revisions, and optimizations throughout the database and site

And there’s much more to come as we continue working to make MobyGames an indispensable tool for gamers, historians, researchers, and the game industry writ large.

This project has been a long time in the works and we’re excited to finally put it into production! Tracy and I have been chipping away at this for years on a mostly part-time basis, along with feedback and testing with Moby admins, approvers and contributors all along the way. And with thanks to Atari for supporting the project, enabling full time development to get the new platform to feature parity and beyond.

Thanks to the MobyGames community for your support and feedback so far. We hope you enjoy the new site and we’ll be focused on fine-tuning and resolving any issues that arise. Then onward to improving contribution/approval tools and new features. We look forward to building on this new foundation! Stay tuned.

The site is going into read-only mode starting tonight as we begin the process of moving to the new platform! This may take a few days. We’re moving millions of images, recreating their thumbnails, and updating the database from Postgres 11 to 15, along with over 60 migrations.

In the meantime, feel free to continue browsing this site or the beta (which no longer requires login).

Stay tuned!

An explanation: each coloured shape in the graph represents a platform. The horizontal axis is time. The vertical axis represents the number of games released and is stacked. So the height of a shape on a given point in time indicates the number of games released for that platform that year. The total height of the graph on a given point in time shows the total releases that year. The graph is meant to represent game releases and thus excludes DLC, Special Edition and Compilation items. It does include each game for each platform it was released on.
As usual we see a drop-off at the end, simply because we haven’t been able to keep up with all the new game releases.
Feel free to point out interesting info in the graph and your contributions in the thread!

I have also updated the bar chart race I made last year with the new data.

As always, the games themselves need not have come out in 2022 necessarily, all that matters is that you played them and they left a mark on you.

Chapter 115: The Dragon Race (Part 2) / Take or be taken from you

More than 100 corpses lay at the feet of the Black Dragon. It was impossible to even imagine that all these bodies were the result of a single spell from [Dragon Magic]. How could just one spell do so much damage?

Those who managed to survive after this spell met with a far worse fate. With each swing of the dragon’s claws, several soldiers hit the walls of the dungeon, and this despite the fact that the average weight of a soldier was 90 kg, and in armor reached 140 kg. As soon as the soldiers hit the walls, their bodies were firmly imprinted on the stone, and the red liquid flowed down the cracks to the ground. The soldiers, at the sight of this, could only pray for a quick death.

The Black Dragon was about 18 meters long, which was clearly not something that Peter and the few survivors could handle. Still, among the researchers of this race, there was an opinion that the longer the dragon, the higher its strength, in addition, the length of fangs and claws played an important role in assessing strength. And for those who often met with representatives of this race, one look into the eyes was enough to understand the potential danger of the dragon. By the way, the length of the dragon depends on its type. For example, an ordinary Red Fire Dragon is only 12-15 meters.

And now, in front of a handful of survivors, there was a dragon that surpassed even the Red Fire. The monster’s back was stained from arrows and magic hits a little earlier, but those attacks didn’t seem to do any damage at all. Although, a lot of protruding arrows made him look like a porcupine.

— «Morderon, the length of the dragon is from 17 to 19 meters.»

— «Connie, you know the size is comparable to the strength of a dragon.»

— «Hmm, he’s a lot stronger than he first appeared.»

As they chatted, a high-pitched bell reached Connie’s ears.

— “What the? My eardrums nearly burst. Is that the Black Dragon? Wait a minute…”

— «Wait what?»

— «This is not from the dragon, the sound comes from the boy.»

Connie had a special skill, [Danger Bell]. Every time he encountered an enemy stronger than himself in battle, the sound of a bell would sound in his ears. And right now, his head was pounding at the unbearable sound.

— «I’m not sure, but this boy seems to have a chance to win.»

Connie often leads groups in the dungeon, but never really thought about their fate, but the reason why he did not attach to anyone was that they were all weak, but this time, the guide recognized this boy as a huge strength.

-“He survived in the dungeon for a whole month. At first I was surprised to see him here, but now I think that there is something in this boy.”

— «By the way, you know what surprises me more?»

— «Nope, I can’t even imagine.»

— «Look closer. Haven’t you figured out yet that this boy went through «Rotten Lake»? »

— «Eh? Are you sure?…and it really does show traces of it.”

Connie guessed this from Yuu’s appearance. His boots and pants showed traces of purple silt, which is the hallmark of Rotten Lake. This location is located from the 48th to 49th floors of the Enrio Kusakai Dungeon. Its main feature is the toxic gas emitted by the lake, which is why even the dirt turns purple. The gas is so poisonous that a couple of minutes is enough for a healthy person to die from its fumes. In addition, there are still monsters in this lake, they are hiding in the depths, waiting for the next victim who decides to go through the lake.

This was the place that the adventurers tried to avoid. Low visibility range, viscous surface, poison and sudden monster attacks. You can even say that this is the most dangerous place in the entire dungeon. Once a nobleman, blinded by his pride, decided to go with his army through the «Rotten Lake», but in the end, his name became widely known not for his merits, but for the fact that he lost his entire army and died himself, unable to withstand the misfortunes of the lake.

The black dragon began to actively flap its wings, although its wings were full of holes, but even so, a powerful storm arose from its actions. When the dragon spread its wings. then their length reached 10 meters in width. Moments later, the dragon flapped its wings in Peter’s direction.

— “From swings and such power? The air pressure was equal to that of the [Black Magic] Hurricane.”

— «Morderon, look at the boy. He calmly walks towards the dragon, regardless of the wind.

— «But who is he?»

Peter crouched down on the ground, if he didn’t, he would have been blown away by the gusts of wind that appear with every beat of the Black Dragon’s huge wings, and Yuu made his way through the storm as if it was just a gentle breeze for him.

— “And you are brave… tell me your name! You were able to move under the «pressure» of my wings.»

— “I would never have thought that a lizard could talk. Let’s get this over with quickly.»

Read the light novel Take it away or be taken away from you on Ranobelib.ru

— «Darkness… light… Black fire, consume my enemies. White waves, wash away the pain and devour everything, «Las Tera»!

Peter saw perfectly how this spell hit the area and slaughtered his soldiers, and now all its power was concentrated in one place. A huge amount of magic was focused on Yuu. And several hundred rays rushed towards the boy. Each of the survivors knew what fate awaited the boy, but then, Yuu sharply put his left hand in front of him, and at the same time, iron pillars began to appear from the ground, slowly but surely, they created a wall. The part of the wall that met the rays instantly evaporated, but new pillars were already rising to replace them.

— «This is the fifth level magic ‘Iron Wall’ from [Black Magic] ! It’s just unbelievable that such a small boy can use it, and even in such a quantity.

One of Peter’s soldiers stared open-mouthed at Yuu and his magic.

— “Everyone focus on recovery. Use whatever you have, even potions, even healing spells, on those who are still breathing.»

— “Yes, sir. We’ll start treating the wounded. You heard the order, get to work! Don’t be afraid to use up potions, use every last drop.»

After Peter’s order, the wounded soldiers gradually returned to the line, but even while they were being treated, no one could close their eyes to the battle between the dragon and the boy.

— Corrosive power! Undermine the desire of my enemies, Acid Rain! »

The dragon cast the third-level spell «Acid Rain» from [Black Magic]. The spell caused acid rain to fall slowly towards Yuu. Gradually, «Acid Rain» corroded the «Iron Wall» in less than a minute, turning a strong barrier into an incomprehensible goo. But after that, without panicking, Yuu waved his left hand once more, and at the same instant, the wave threw the “Acid Rain” back at the dragon. As soon as the first caustic drops touched the monster’s skin, a scream filled the room.

«Gaaaah..ha ha ha ha…good good good…Finally met someone who fought me without fear and showed his strength through skills.»

The black dragon did not feel pain, after all, it is not in vain that he belongs to the undead. The rotten flesh had melted under the action of the acid, and smoke was now rising from the monster’s body.

— Can you only cast spells? Why then do you have such a huge body?”

By this time, Yuu had gotten close to the dragon and was holding his sword with both hands. A wave, and a huge wound appeared on the left shoulder of the dragon, and this despite the extraordinary strength of the scales and skin. The sword passed without encountering any resistance. The monster howled, not from pain, but from the fact that someone hurt his pride as a dragon. Feeling a sense of shame, the Black Dragon flapped its wings in rage. From the gusts of wind, Yuu’s bag was carried to Connie.

— “I think it’s time to run. If he can defeat the dragon, he will definitely come here for his things.”

Connie said with a wry smile, to which Morderon nodded in agreement.

— “Yeah, this bag belongs to a boy? Stop, did you hear that?

-“What are you talking about? … yeah, I hear something, it seems the sound is from there.”

The sound came from the bag in front of Connie, the same bag that Yuu threw on the ground before the battle. The bag measured 80 cm vertically and 30 cm horizontally and was shaped like a tube. A small child could easily fit in such a bag.

-“Is anyone there? Hey? We need help! Aw?!»

Suddenly, a voice came from the bag asking for help. Hearing this, Connie slowly opened the bag, and from what he saw, he was completely speechless. Inside there were two figures, however, each was missing all the limbs, there was only a head and upper body. Goria’s eyes were seriously damaged and almost fell out of their sockets. The other, the leader of the spies, was in an even worse condition, looking like he had gone mad. The churchman kept mumbling one phrase under his breath: “I have already told everything, I don’t know anything more.” Again and again said this phrase, just like a broken record player.

Why are they in such a state, Connie could not find an answer to this question.

-«Are you still alive?»

-“You are for me? I am from the Order of Immortality. Do you think I’ll die so easily? Hahaha…I am immortal. Hahaha, where’s the kid? Where is that damn kid? Hahaha… I’ll make him pay for everything. .. I’ll finish him off!»

The more the beastman continued to talk, the crazier his speech became. Even Connie, being a seasoned adventurer, had never seen anything like it. With trembling hands, Connie cut open the bag with his Dragonfang dagger, but never received any words of thanks from Goria.

— “Ahahaha, okay. Fine! Now I will reward you! I’ll kill you!»

Connie felt that he might go crazy at the words of the two, glancing at the dagger in his hand, he swung to strike.

— «Connie, better put the dagger away.»

At this time, Connie did not yet understand why Morderon said this, but he understood everything when a fairy appeared in front of him. The guide was surprised how she managed to go unnoticed despite his skills, since he was a B-rank adventurer with the Scout profession. Connie was the best at finding someone or something, so the sight of a small fairy floating in the air made him completely unsure.

Peach looked from Goria to Connie. Her wings made a buzzing sound, but that sound was soon replaced by the sound of a bell in Connie’s head.

9000 opponent through the classic Alexstrasza. As soon as we have 15 units. damage on the table, it is enough to play Alexstrasz and that’s it, there is no opponent. We are unlikely to overtempo some aggro deck, and due to the large amount of control we simply hold back the opponent and seize the initiative in the late game.

There are 8 dragons in total in the deck, and this is usually enough for synergies between them. Let’s take a look at the new key cards of the deck: Curly Cladkins is a very good replacement for the nerfed Microgalaxy of the moon: we reduce the cost of dragons in the deck by 2, for only 4 mana, and we also get a 5/4 carcass on the table, which is incredibly strong. I recommend always leaving Curly in the starting hand. Malygos, the aspect of magic, if we have a dragon in our hand, allows us to unearth an improved Mage spell, total spells 9: The most popular are Fireball and Fire Surge, which deal 8 damage. damage, Ring of Ice and Turn into a sheep for 1 mana, there is also Frostbolt for 0. Queen Alexstrasza fits perfectly into the deck, although we get random dragons in our hand, most importantly, they cost 0 mana and can be implemented in any convenient for us moment, thanks to Queen Alexstrasza alone, you can incredibly strongly gain a foothold on the table.
