Smash Ultimate Nintendo Direct video vanishes and nobody knows why

Nintendo fans are on a mission to solve the mystery of a recently-vanished Smash Ultimate Direct that introduced King K Rool, along with Simon and Richter Belmont, to the famous fighting game franchise.

The August 8, 2018 Smash Direct is easily one of the best that Nintendo has ever released, as it dug deep into the then-upcoming fighting game title and announced three new characters in the process.

Now, for whatever reasons, the video has mysteriously disappeared from the North American, European, and Japanese websites without any reason as to why.

The Direct’s removal comes at a weird time, as August 8, 2021 is approaching, marking the third year anniversary of the video.

As such, conspiracies are running wild regarding why the video was taken down. While some seem quite sensible, others are verging on the extremely unlikely, such as a new fighter being revealed.

Some fans were under the impression that with the Olympic closing ceremonies approaching, some music featured in the video could be used, and as a result, there might be some weird automatic copyright claims. The Olympics are in Japan this year, and Nintendo was supposed to have a presence before the company reportedly decided to pull out.

Popular Smash YouTuber PapaGenos was one of the first personalities to bring attention to the missing Direct and noticed how its removal from Nintendo websites suggests this issue isn’t limited to YouTube copyright claims.

Others think a new tease between Nintendo and Konami is in the works.

“Could it be because of something coming up between Konami and Nintendo?” a user suggested.

“Maybe Nintendo has a licensing agreement with Konami on the Castlevania IP content that was shown in that Direct, and for ongoing legal renegotiations, they had to suspend the availability of that Direct?”

That’s interesting. Could be a number of legal/promotional reasons surrounding third-party deals and music though.

Others have theorized some Smash content is dropping soon, such as a new stage pack, but it’s unclear why the removal of a Direct could have anything to do with upcoming stages.

Nintendo has yet to officially comment on why they pulled the Direct, and it’s unlikely that they will – but if enough people take notice, even they may feel the need to pull back the curtain, especially if it is because of something as mundane as a licensing agreement.

During the September 2021 Direct, Nintendo announced that the last DLC character would be revealed during a Smash Ultimate presentation hosted by series creator Masahiro Sakurai. The presentation is called Mr. Sakurai Presents, and who better to take a deep dive on the newest fighter? From its start time, to how to watch, and what to expect, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Smash Ultimate DLC fighter reveal.

The final Mr. Sakurai Presents will feature a reveal for the last Smash Ultimate fighter, along with its release date, and the debut of new Mii Fighter costumes. The event will last roughly 40 minutes, presumably with details on the last fighter’s move set, stages, and music. Because this is the last character in the Fighters Pass 2 and it doesn’t look like there will be a third, we may also receive overall updates on where the franchise goes from here. Will Smash Ultimate still receive ongoing updates — and for how long? Will a new Smash Bros. game ever be released?

More pressing, however, is the identity of this final character. There is plenty of speculation out there from Kingdom Hearts’ Sora, to Fortnite’s Jonesy, and even Waluigi. Many of these predictions make sense and are plausible given the history of Smash Ultimate.

Over the weekend prior to the presentation, Sora began trending on Twitter, as the community rallied in support of the character’s inclusion. Later on, Sakurai himself took to Twitter to say, “Whether you’re a Smash Bros. player or simply love games, make sure to tune in.”

“You may not know the new fighter, or it might be different from your personal expectations, Sakurai said (as translated by PushSusIn). “BUT, we hope you enjoy this game show and the broadcast itself! I really enjoyed recording the broadcast.”

Given Sakurai’s comments, it’s unclear if the final DLC fighter will be well-known or obscure. With it being the last character, we might expect Nintendo to go out with a bang, so we’ll have to wait and see. Perhaps icons like Crash Bandicoot or Halo’s Master Chief fit the bill.

We’ll find out who the last Smash Ultimate DLC fighter is on October 5.

How to check a right angle without a square

During finishing work and construction, a clear geometry is sometimes needed: perpendicular walls and other
designs requiring a right angle of 90 degrees. An ordinary square cannot allow to check or
mark corners with sides of several meters. The described method is excellent for marking or
checking any angles — the length of the sides is not limited. The main measuring tool is a tape measure.

Pythagorean theorem

The theorem is based on the statement that in a right triangle the sum of the squares of the lengths of the legs is equal to
the square of the length of the hypotenuse
. This is written as a formula:

a²+b²=c²

Sides a and b are legs, between which the angle is exactly 90 degrees. Therefore, side c is the hypotenuse.
Substituting two known quantities into this formula, we can calculate the third, unknown. And therefore we can
mark right angles, as well as check them.

The Pythagorean theorem is also known as the «Egyptian triangle». It’s a triangle with sides 3, 4 and 5,
and it does not matter in what units of length. There are exactly ninety degrees between sides 3 and 4. Let’s check
given statement by the above formula: a²+b²=c² = (3×3)+(4×4) = 9+16 = (5×5) = 25 — all
converges!

Now let’s put the theorem into practice.

Right angle test

Let’s start with the simplest — checking the right angle using the Pythagorean theorem. The most frequent example
in decoration and construction is to check perpendicularity of walls. Perpendicular walls —
These are walls located at a right angle of 90 ° to each other.

So, we take any checked internal corner. On the walls (at the same height) or on the floor, mark on both
walls segments of arbitrary lengths. The length of these segments is arbitrary, if possible, you need to mark as much as possible
more, but so that it is convenient to measure the diagonal between the marks on the walls. For example, we marked 2.5 meters (or 250
cm) on one wall and 3 meters (or 300 cm) on the other. Now we square the length of the segment of each wall
(multiply by itself) and add the resulting products. It looks like this: (2.5×2.5)+(3×3)=15.25 —
is the diagonal squared. Now we need to extract the square root of this number √15.25≈3.90 — 3.9 meters
should be a diagonal between our marks. If the measurement with a tape measure shows a different diagonal length —
the tested angle is unfolded and has a deviation from 90°.

Extracting the square root has never attracted me — a simple person cannot do without a calculator, besides,
not on all mobile devices, calculators can extract it. Therefore, a simplified method can be used. Need
just remember: at a right angle with sides exactly 100 centimeters, the diagonal is 141. 4 cm. Thus,
right angle with sides 2 m. — the diagonal is 282.8 cm. That is, for each meter of the plane there are 141.4 cm. This
method has one drawback: from the measured angle, you need to set aside the same distances on both walls and these segments should
be a multiple of a meter. I will not say, but in my humble practice — it is much more convenient. Although do not forget
about the original method at all — in some cases it is very relevant.

The question immediately arises: what deviation from the calculated length of the diagonal should be considered the norm (error), and what
No? If the tested angle with marked sides of 1 m is 89 °, then the diagonal will decrease to 140 cm. From
understanding this dependence, we can make an objective conclusion that the diagonal error of 141.4 cm is a few millimeters
will not give a deviation of one whole degree.

How to check the outside corner? Checking the outer corner is essentially the same, just extend the lines of each wall
on the floor (or ground, using a cord) and measure the resulting internal angle in the usual way.

How to mark a right angle with a tape measure

The markup can be based both on the general Pythagorean theorem and on the principle of the «Egyptian triangle». However
it is only in theory that the lines are simply drawn on paper, but to “catch” all the selected sizes with stretched cords or
lines on the floor — a more difficult task.

Therefore, I propose a simplified method based on a diagonal of 141.4 cm from a triangle with sides of 100 cm.
the marking sequence is shown in the pictures below. It is important not to forget: the diagonal of 141.4 cm must be multiplied by
the number of meters in the segment A-B. Segments A-B and A-C must be equal and correspond to a whole number in meters.

How to mark a sharp corner

Much less often there is a need to create sharp corners, in particular 45 °. To form such
formula shapes are more complex, but this is not the most problematic. It is much more difficult to reduce all the lines drawn
or stretched with cords — this is not an easy task. Therefore, I suggest using a simplified method. Marked first
right angle 90°, and then the diagonal 141.4 is divided into the required number of equal parts. For example, to get
45 °, the diagonal must be divided in half and from point A draw a line through the place of division. Thus we will get
two 45 degree angles. If you divide the diagonal into 3 parts, you get three angles of 30 degrees. I think the algorithm
you understand.

Actually, I told everything that I could tell, I hope I put everything in an understandable language and you won’t have any more
questions how to mark and check right angles. It is worth adding that any finisher or
builder, because relying on a small construction square is unprofessional.

Learn how to cut, split, and crop objects into geometric or freeform shapes.

You can cut an object, divide it into a mesh, and cut the path at selected anchor points using various menu options. You can also use the Scissors tool to split the path and the Knife tool to manually cut out objects. In addition, you can select a clipping mask to hide parts of an object, and a navigator to clip overlapping objects.

The Split Bottom Objects command acts as a cookie cutter or stencil. This tool uses the selected object to cut through other objects, resetting the original selection.

  1. Select an object to be used as a stencil and position it so that it overlaps the object to be cropped.

  2. Choose Object > Path > Split Bottom Objects.

The Divide By Grid command allows you to divide one or more objects into a set of rectangular objects aligned in rows and columns. It allows you to precisely change the height, width and size of the middle between rows and columns, as well as quickly create guides for planning a picture.

  1. Select an object.

    If several objects are selected, the appearance attributes of the top object are used for the resulting grid of objects.

  2. Select Object > Path > Grid Subdivision.

The Cut Path at Selected Anchor Points tool (with the icon) cuts the path at the anchor point, resulting in the anchor point becoming two anchor points directly on top of each other.

  1. (Optional) Select the path to see its current anchor points.

  2. Use the Direct Selection Tool () to select the anchor point where you want to split the path.

  3. Click the Cut path at selected anchor points () icon in the Control panel.

    If the contour is divided at an anchor point, a new anchor point will appear above it, and one of these points will be selected.

  4. Use the Direct Selection tool () to modify a new anchor point or path segment.

The scissors tool allows you to split a path, graphics frame, or empty text frame at an anchor point or segment.

  1. Press and hold the Eraser tool () to display and select the Scissors tool ().

  2. Click on the contour at the point where you want to split it. Splitting the path will create two anchor points. One anchor point is selected by default.

    If you don’t click on a point or path with the Scissors tool selected, Illustrator displays a reminder that you need to apply the tool to the segment or anchor point of the path. Click OK to continue.

  3. Use the Direct Selection Tool () to select a previously cut anchor point or path to modify the object.

The Knife tool cuts objects along a freehand path with the tool, separating the objects into separate, filled slices (a slice is an area not separated by a line segment).

  1. Press and hold the Eraser tool () to display and select the Knife tool ().

  2. Do one of the following:

    • To cut along a curved line, drag over the object.
    • To cut an object in a straight line, hold down the Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) key and drag over the object.

    Cuts made with the Knife tool are indicated by a dotted line on the object.

  3. Choose Selection > Deselect.

    When cutting, Illustrator selects the object by default.

  4. Use the Direct Selection Tool () to drag each part.

Clipping masks allow you to use an object to hide parts of other objects. See Clipping Masks for details.

  1. Create an object to be used as a mask. This object is called a clipping path. Only vector objects can be used as clipping paths.

  2. Move the clipping path over the objects to be masked, in order of overlap.

  3. Select the clipping path and objects to be masked.

  4. Choose Object > Clipping Mask > Make.

    To create a clipping path from an area where two or more objects overlap, you must first group the objects.

Trimming objects with Pathfinder effects

Pathfinder effects provide various ways to split and trim overlapping objects.
