What is Silent Patch?

Silent Patch is an unofficial patch that fixes all the remaining issues with this game whilst bringing back features that were only found in the console releases as well. In my opinion: it’s now a necessity for any player and ultimately gives you the best San Andreas experience possible. It works best with any PC version except for the «NewSteam» version. How do I install Silent Patch?

To install it: simply go to link 1, expand the box below the «Silent Patch» heading and click the «Download» button, and then expand the box below the «Silent’s ASI Loader » heading and click the «Download» button there as well. After that, unzip Silent Patch and then drag and drop the «SilentPatchSA.asi» and «SilentPatchSA.ini» files into your game’s main folder. Lastly, unzip Silent’s ASI Loader this time and then drag and drop the «vorbisHooked.dll» and «vorbisFile.dll» files into your game’s main folder. Once all that’s done you can optionally apply the Fixed Vehicles pack from link 3, which is nice to have and works great alongside Silent Patch. Should I downgrade?

That’s entirely up to you. San Andreas had previously only received one official patch (patch 1.01) and it limited modding severely. This was due to the «Hot Coffee mod» which controversially restored partially-cut content that wasn’t supposed to be available to players. On November 7 2014, the Steam release was exclusively updated with another official patch (labelled by modders as NewSteam r1). On December 9 2014, the Steam release was updated with yet another official patch (NewSteam r2).

Rather than tell you what version is the best, I’ll simply list the pros and cons of each version with the following table:

Downgrader 3. 0 or 1.0?

Not all of Silent Patch’s functions will work unless you downgrade to either version 3.0 or 1.0. 3.0 will revert your game to how it was before the NewSteam patches (this means the game will be less moddable and not all of Silent Patch’s features will work) while 1.0 allows for the user to auto-install essential mods from within the downgrader program itself and will downgrade your game completely (there’s even a button that will allow for you to install these mods without downgrading). Only use one downgrader!!
NOTE: after downgrading you will have TWO .exe files in your game’s main folder. gta-sa.exe is named like the normal Steam shortcut (so you can launch the game from the Steam library and the game will launch from here with no issues) whilst gta_sa.exe is the name of the shortcut the non-Steam version of GTA SA always had (and is there in case you need it or for mods that require a gta_sa.exe file be present). It honestly shouldn’t really matter which . exe you launch the game from but if you want the Steam overlay, launch the game from the Steam library.

Controller support?

Both methods of controller support require you using the 1.0 downgrader first (directly above). Once your game is downgraded, you’ll need to grab «Silent’s ASI Loader» from link 1 (if you haven’t already) and put its contents into your game’s main folder and then make a choice between links 1a and 1b. I personally recommend link 1a as it’s more recent and seems to do a better job.

Some extra information on savegames and frame limiter bugs!

Usually savegames only work on the version of the game that they were made on. If you made a save on v 2.0/3.0, don’t expect it to work on a v 1.0 installation of San Andreas. It’s best to start a new game if you can (especially if you weren’t that far into the game) but if you really want to continue your save game, you can upload your save on here and this website does all the work for you (do note it only converts v2 saves to v1 and v1 saves to v2):

GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas should all have the in-game frame limiter (Options —> Display Setup —> Advanced) enabled, otherwise you’ll run into odd bugs. In addition to physics-related bugs and cars aceelerating/braking incredibly fast that you’ll experience in GTA III and GTA: Vice City, you’ll also notice CJ can’t swim underwater and exercise minigames are far too difficult in San Andreas with the frame limiter disabled. So do yourself a favour and enable the frame limiter. Normally the frame limiter locks GTA III and GTA Vice City to 30 FPS whilst San Andreas is locked to 25 FPS, but with Silent Patch applied San Andreas properly locks at 30 FPS.

Patch 1.02 for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition became available for download on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on November 20. In the update, the developers have fixed more than 60 flaws found in the release versions of the games.

What was fixed

All games

  • Numerous localization-related bugs.
  • Incorrect rendering of textures in many locations.
  • Issues with character models in cutscenes.
  • Numerous places in the game world that the character could «fall through».
  • Incorrect placement of objects and their interaction with the camera.
  • Incorrect display of help text and subtitles.
  • Issues with non-functional collision detection system.

Grand Theft Auto III

  • A bug that allowed the player to run faster by switching between weapons.
  • Problems with «blurry» transitions in the cutscenes of the Grand Theft Aero mission.
  • A bug that caused the doors of the Pay ‘n’ Spray paint shop to close, preventing the player from entering.
  • Malfunctions in the missions Gone Fishing, The Thieves, Last Requests, Cutting The Grass, Escort Service, which could prevent their completion.
  • A bug that allowed players to get to Staunton Island early.
  • An issue that prevented character models from animating during cutscenes in the Luigi’s Girls and Give Me Liberty missions.
  • An issue that causes the game to crash on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One after completing a Triad War mission.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

  • A bug that caused Tommy Vercetti’s character model to enter a T-pose during the Beginning mission.
  • An issue that prevented players from looking up or down while driving at high speeds.
  • A bug that caused flashers on fire trucks to work incorrectly.
  • An issue that was blocking the doors of the Pay ‘N’ Spray store.
  • GPS route display issues in Autocide, Gun Runner and Psycho Killer missions.
  • Incorrect display of the interface during the passage of the Gun Runner mission.
  • An issue where changes to language settings were not saved after restarting the game on Nintendo Switch.
  • An issue that caused Xbox consoles to warn that the device’s graphics card was out of memory and needed to lower the resolution.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

  • Incorrect display of rain visual effects.
  • An issue that caused the bridge in Flint County to become invisible.
  • An issue that allowed players to equip weapons while swimming, causing models to display incorrectly.
  • Various malfunctions in Blood Bowl, Reuniting the Families, Sayonara Salvatore, High Stakes, Low Rider, Los Desperados and Don Peyote missions.
  • An issue that caused the wrong tooltip to be displayed while swimming.
  • An issue that caused gray pedestrians to appear in the Willowfield and Playa del Seville areas.
  • Fault with inverted control when swimming underwater.
  • A bug due to which players could not see the characteristics in the gym.
  • An issue that caused some character models to remain static during cutscenes.
  • An issue that could cause players to get stuck behind the Cluckin’ Bell counter on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

It is not known when the patch will be released on PC.

On November 19, Rockstar apologized for «unexpected» technical issues with the remasters. The company promised to refine the reissues and bring them «to the level of quality they deserve.»

The Trilogy Gets First Patch — It Fixes Rain, Tuff Nuts, And Adds Cinematic Camera

Rockstar Games has released patch 1.03 for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition. It fixes a number of bugs in all parts of the remaster.

Major changes include the return of the cinematic camera, fixes for rain in buildings during cutscenes, and gamepad functionality on PC. Each individual game also received a number of fixes — for example, in GTA: San Andreas they solved the problem with CJ’s enlarged face when looking back while riding a motorcycle, and in GTA: Vice City they removed long pauses between tracks on V-Rock and Wildstyle Radio.

Full bug fixes:

General — PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC:

  • Improved stability.
  • Cinematic camera added.
  • Fixed a number of typos on various textures.
  • Numerous fixes in the cut-scenes with the display of rain indoors.

GTA III:

  • Fixed the rain in the cutscene in the Give Me Liberty mission to match the rain during gameplay.
  • Increased texture resolution on taxi doors.
  • Fixed an issue with buildings showing rain during cutscenes in Cutting the Grass, Liberator, Don’t Spank Ma Bitch Up, Ciprani’s Chauffeur, and Bomb Da Base: Act I.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the player to saw rain underwater during the fall.
  • Fixed a bug that caused grass to be displayed in Joey’s garage in Drive Misty For Me mission.
  • Fixed a bug that caused incorrect texture reflection near the hospital in Portland while driving.
  • On the floor Turtle Head Fish Co. black or pink textures no longer appear.
  • Adjusting the dialog volume correctly reproduces the audio sample.
  • Fixed a bug due to which UI elements overlapped the timer during Vigilante and Taxi missions.
  • Fixed object and wall collisions under Hallahan Bridge in Chinatown.
  • Fixed a bug that caused two-seat cars to be stretched with a car press.
  • The wheels of the car that Joey worked on are now connected to the vehicle.
  • Fixed a number of camera issues during RC missions.
  • Fixed typos in Deli and Pizza.

GTA: Vice City:

  • Added advertising banners for Rumpo, Coach, Benson and Boxville cars.
  • The Shakedown mission cutscene now transitions correctly into gameplay.
  • Fixed a bug with the display of rain in buildings during the cut-scenes of the missions Publicity Tour, Alloy Wheels of Steel and Two Bit Hit.
  • In the Shakedown mission, Tommy’s hands now display correctly if he is wearing a Hawaiian shirt.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the Cop Land mission to fail when the cafe exploded.
  • The textures in Diaz Manor are displayed correctly during the cutscene.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a crash after completing the Checkpoint Charlie mission.
  • Fixed a bug that caused incorrect display of road textures during a long game and in the Hog Tied and Boomshine Saigon missions.
  • Removed long pauses between tracks on V-Rock and Wildstyle Radio.
  • Fixed an issue that caused pedestrians to spawn in the Supply and Demand mission cutscene.
  • Removed holes near Robina Café and in Ocean View Hotel next to Tommy’s wardrobe.
  • Fixed typos on airport billboard and Shaft Hot Dog logos.
  • The crates in the Gun Runner mission are now destroyed and do not interfere with the passage.
  • Flamethrower no longer damages objects behind Tommy.
  • Fixed a bug that caused incorrect display of textures in the Packer car.
  • Gash Store broken glass particles are now of normal size.
  • Minigun now has the correct firing animation.
  • Helicopter blades synchronized.
  • The Rockstar logo shaped pool is correctly displayed on the minimap.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Tommy to shrink near buildings in Little Havana.
  • Lance no longer spawns twice when restarting the Copland mission.
  • Fixed display of open graves for Funeraria Romero.

GTA: San Andreas:

  • When climbing, clouds are now displayed correctly.
  • Added alternative animations for fat and muscular CJ.
  • Grass texture rendering bugs have been fixed.
  • Fixed bugs with the display of CJ’s body in the cut-scenes of the missions The Meat Business, Supply Lines, Cesar Vialpando and Wu Zi Mu.
  • Fixed a crash in Dam and Blast mission.
  • Fixed a bug that caused texture damage during a long game.
  • CJ and Big Smoke no longer get stuck near the end of the Just Business mission.
  • Fixed a bug causing a crash when drowning near Ocean Beach.
  • CJ’s face no longer obscures the view when looking back on ATV and Hydra.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a crash when trying to load a checkpoint in a Cold Killa mission.
  • Fixed typos in the music store, FleishBerg factory, Sayonara store, and Mexican food ads.
  • Fixed a bug due to which CJ, in the absence of money, could make certain hairstyles in the barbershop.
  • Shady Creeks bridge is now displayed correctly.
  • The Burger Shot sign now rotates.
  • CJ’s arms at maximum weight no longer fall through the body in cut scenes.
  • Fixed lighting in Rockshore West Safehouse.
  • Fixed display of CJ’s hands and head during the Reuniting the Families mission.
  • Fixed incorrect display of tattoos on muscular CJ.
  • Raindrops now correctly interact with water surfaces.
  • Fixed a bug due to which random numbers appeared on the clothes of passers-by with a numbered jersey under the number 7.
  • Fixed display of rain when flying in rainy weather.
  • Fixed forklift behavior in Robbing Uncle Sam mission.
  • Tuff Nuts now have the correct shape for the donut and nut.
  • Fixed menu in Burger Shot.
  • Minigun shooting animation has been fixed.
  • Motor boat propellers now work correctly.
  • Fixed a bug due to which the CJ in the 69 Cent store was displayed too dark.
  • CJ’s hairstyle no longer changes automatically when wearing a hat.
  • Police cars no longer fall through the ground.
  • Fixed flying saucer animation at Lil’ Probe Inn.

Xbox version fixes:

  • Fixed an issue that caused the game to not accept input for a few seconds after exiting buildings.
  • Fixed a bug due to which achievements were not unlocked if they were already opened on other accounts linked to the same Social Club.

PC fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where it was not possible to interact with the mission restart menu using a gamepad.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players with special characters in their username from saving their progress.
  • The interface now displays correctly on ultra-wide monitors.
  • Menu items are displayed correctly when hovering over with the mouse.
  • Fixed a bug due to which clicking the menu too quickly led to errors in displaying options.
  • Fixed a bug due to which it was impossible to use the controller in the menu if the mouse cursor was pointing at any menu item.
  • When resizing the screen, the correct resolution is now displayed.
  • Graphics settings are now saved when the game is restarted.

GTA: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition was released on November 11th.
