Feature

is a texture mod for the 1999 Biohazard 3 (Resident Evil 3) game. It completely transforms the appearance of the game, removes all pixelation, while preserving the spirit of the original game.

Requirements

Japanese Biohazard 3 (1993) SourceNext v1.1.0;
Resident Evil 3 Classic Rebirth 1.0.1 (4 Aug 2021) (included).

Features

backgrounds — the backgrounds in the game have been enlarged using neural networks, the new resolution of the backgrounds is 1280×960 vs the original 640×480/320×240;
masks — masks (layers) have been re-generated from HD backgrounds;
skins — the skins of the models (character, enemies, items) have been enlarged using neural networks;
effects — effects (fire, smoke, and others) have been enlarged using neural networks;
font — there are several fonts in the game and all of them have been redone manually;
interface — the interface has been enlarged manually;
Movies — CG-movies have been enlarged using neural networks;
custom DLL — mod is located in a separate DLL (bio3hd. asi) and does not modify the original EXE;
texture dump — you can save the original textures for editing.

Installation

Install Biohazard 3 (SourceNext) game. This is a requirement for the ClassicRebirth.
Copy the contents of the archive to the root of the game.
In the ClassicRebirth settings, set «Force 240p backgrounds» to UNCHECKED.
Play!

Texture Dump

If the «dump» folder does not exist, the dump is not performed. If you need to, create one.
The texture will be saved only if in the folder «Hires\…\» there is no texture with the same name.
To collect all the textures, simply rename, move or delete the entire «Hires\» folder.
Textures can only be enlarged 4 times (for example: 256×256 -> 1024×1024). If the texture size is incorrect, game will crash.
After enlarging, the texture should be put in «Hires\…\».

NEW! Mask generator

is a utility for generating hi-res masks for use in this mod.
There are low resolution backgrounds in the «dump\bgd320\» and «dump\bgd640\» folders. It is necessary to upscale them to a resolution of 1280×960 (!!!), put the result with the same names in «hires\bgd\». Run the utility, the result will be in «hires\mask0\» and «hires\mask1\».

Resident Evil 3 fans, here is something really special for you today. Mathieu Philippe has shared a HD mod for Resident Evil 3, called Resident Evil 3 – Seamless HD Project. This project upscales the game’s FMVs, backgrounds and 3D model textures, resulting in an unofficial remaster that only PC gamers can enjoy.

Going into more details, this fan HD remaster project for Resident Evil 3 upscales backgrounds with vectorized masks, restores integrated texts, upscales 3D model textures, upscales the FMVs, and upscales the menu elements as well as the HR portraits. The modder has also used custom-made tools to prevent the apparition of seams where the masks are displayed on top of the backgrounds (this was done by recreating the Mask textures from fully processed backgrounds through analyzing and exploiting the game’s data).

Do note that RE3SHDP is an HD texture pack for the Gamecube version of Resident Evil 3 running on Dolphin. The pack that the team is currently offering for download comes along a custom version of Dolphin and all you have to do is to extract the Zip file, open Dolphin.exe, select the folder containing your game ISO, configure the controller if needed and play.

Now as you may have guessed, the pack does not contain any game ISO as that would make it illegal. As such, you’ll have to create and use an ISO based on the game’s Gamecube version. While the pack supports both PAL and NTSC, it was made with the NTSC version in mind. If you are using the PAL version, you’ll have to rename the folder “*dolphin_path*\User\Load\Textures\GLEE08” to “GLEP08”.

Last but not least, you can turn the pack on and off while playing with the DELETE key. Do note, however, that if you have the “Prefetch Custom Textures” option activated, the textures will have to be reloaded entirely again.

As said, and given the fact that Capcom is rumoured to be working on a remake of Resident Evil 3, this unofficial Resident Evil 3 Remaster is something that all Resident Evil 3 fans should download and play.

Inventory does not scale. This is fine?
Yes. Replacing Resident Evil 3 textures with Dolphin is proving to be a very difficult task. We have resolved most of the issues, but for items displayed in the inventory and in the box, this is simply not possible. The textures dropped by Dolphin are generated on the fly for all possible inventory combinations. We have no way to get around these billions of different textures…

Is it compatible with the PAL version? nine0006
Yes, but the package was made with the US (NTSC) version in mind. Please note that texts and some 3d models will not scale.

Can I use the package on the PC version?
Unfortunately not… As far as we know, there is no community patch for RE3 that would potentially allow us to replace the original textures with improved ones.

What should I do if my game is stuck?
If you experience Noticeable performance glitches and slowdowns when changing the background or when opening the inventory, try this on Dolphin: open the «Graphics» menu, go to the «Advanced» tab and in the «Utility» section, enable the option « Prefetch custom textures «. You need to restart the game and wait a bit for the changes to take effect.

How to turn off the graphics pack during the game?
You can turn the package on and off while playing Resident Evil 3 Seamless HD Project using the 9 key0005 DELETE . Please note that if you have the « Prefetch Custom Textures » option enabled, the textures will have to be completely reloaded.

How can I skip the door animation?
You cannot do this in the Gamecube version. But you can hold down the TAB, key to speed up the game at any time.
