How To Unlock Free Game of Thrones Theme and Avatars

Game of Thrones fans can complete two simple ‘quests’ to unlock show-themed PS4 themes and character avatars to celebrate the final season in Westeros.
Fans of Game of Thrones are all set to return to Westeros for the final season tonight and people are celebrating with everything from show-themed pop up bars to limited edition GoT Oreos. Sony is apparently also jumping on the final season hype train and has teamed up with HBO to offer some special Game of Thrones avatars and console themes for PS4 owners.
Since there’s no new Game of Thrones video game to play right now, this might be the best way for gamers to get in on the hype. Unlocking both the awesome Game of Thrones character avatars and the fire-breathing dragon theme is pretty simple. Basically, players just need to login to their PSN account and then watch two YouTube videos.

That’s all there is to it. Completing both ‘quests’ only takes a few minutes and should allow fans to keep their PS4 in theme while enjoying the final few episodes of the series. Hopefully this becomes more of a theme and Sony delivers similar rewards for other programs in the future. Unless From Software is really making a Game of Thrones game, this might be the best way for gamers to get in on the fun for now.

Game of Thrones fans who own a PS4 can celebrate the return of the show by collecting a new theme for their PlayStation home screens.
It’s a nice epic image, switching between two scenes that help set up the final season of the show nicely.
The dynamic fire & ice dragon theme for your PS4 Console can be collected by heading over to the PS Vue page for the series and starting a quest.
This essentially means watching a bunch of videos and collecting the code you need to claim the special GoT prizes.
“Get your PS4 console ready for the final season with these limited edition Game of Thrones avatars and theme brought to you by PlayStation Vue. Begin your quest by watching each of the videos to redeem each reward.”
Quest Thress includes the new Dragon Theme, with Quest One providing a House Sigil of your choice and Quest Two offering a Character Avatar.
The good news is that you don’t have to be a PlayStation Vue customers to get these bonuses.
You can complete all the quests and unlock the PlayStation Store codes you need to personalise your PS4 console.
To change your profile’s avatar, log in on your PS4™ system, then go to [Profile] [Edit Profile] [Avatar].
The bad news is that only a particular group of Game of Thrones fans will get to unlock the new theme.
This is due to the codes only working on the North America PlayStation Store, so customers in the UK won’t have access.

While it might be disappointing to miss out on this special gift for Game of Thrones fans, there are other freebies to unlock this week.
As a special anniversary gift to God of War fans, Sony is giving PS4 owners a new dynamic theme.
The week-long God of War celebration kicks off with the free PS4 theme, which can be downloaded right now from the PlayStation Store.
A special God of War Avatar will follow this set, releasing for free on Wednesday, April 17.
«In honour of you, our fans, we’re starting a week-long celebration of the one-year anniversary of this God of War,» reads a Sony Santa Monica post.
«I’m very happy to indulge you with a small token of our appreciation. The birth of Selena
Gregory: Harry and Harry Tikkanen (Co-Founder of Housemarque) came up with the original concept and core idea of the game, a character-centric sci-fi action thriller with a time loop.
Harry: It’s like an «elevator to hell» idea — an astronaut crash-lands on a hostile planet and gets caught in a time loop, and even death is no escape for her. From the beginning, it was clear what the plot would be like. nine0003
Gregory: The story team, under my direction, began to work with this vision, creating the main character. We already had the beginning and the end of the story. From these starting points, we built Selena. We didn’t know her name at the time — it was chosen later — but we knew we needed someone who was understandable to the player, amazingly smart and, most importantly, humane — to contrast with the alien world of Atropos.
Harry: We also wanted to explore a few themes: Lovecraftian cosmic horror, as well as psychological aspects of the plot. The character needed some kind of personal trauma so that we could build on it. nine0003
Gregory: With this in mind, we have given the story a layered structure so that the player gradually learns more about Selena as they progress through the game.
Willy: By the time I joined the project, the main character had already been chosen. I had to add details to a strong woman — and, fortunately, everyone liked my approach. Selena seemed to me a character who was about to be formed from the public opinion of the team. The very first image I created, a black-and-white sketch of the heroine, became the background on Harry’s phone and on our presentations for the next two years. nine0003
Shaping the history of Selena
Harry: At Housemarque, gameplay is always at the forefront. If we have a new idea for the gameplay, we take it and support it with artistic and story components. We do not ask ourselves the question “is it logical that, say, the character will move at such a speed?” Instead, there is another question — “it’s great to move fast; how can we fit the character to that?” This is how we avoid narrative dissonance and support the story with gameplay — the player’s actions define Selena’s character as much as her backstory. nine0003
We wouldn’t want a broken or cowardly character with fear. It would be completely out of proportion to what is happening on the screen in the game, her amazing skills. Therefore, we have her “stubborn as a sheep” and this has become one of the central themes of the plot — how far are you willing to go to achieve your personal goals? What are you willing to sacrifice?
Gregory: Our task was to tell a story that is mysterious and disturbing, one that will remain in memory for a long time. We were inspired by stories that left behind many questions. The interpretation of what is happening by the player is critical — in my understanding, the best stories are initially left at a loss, do not allow them to be fully understood. That’s what I wanted to do for our players — present our story as a puzzle. To do this, our task was to leave enough parts of it so that the players could find them and complete the puzzle. nine0003
Therefore, everything in Returnal was created intentionally. We wanted to create a story that can be explored throughout the game. Players need to be motivated to understand what they read, see and hear in Returnal.
Ville: From a design standpoint, the presentation of the story focuses on Selena’s stubbornness. Her rich experience, both on Atropos and before her, must show in all her equipment and in all her actions; from her second skin to her ASTRA suit, to almost preternaturally efficient movements. nine0003
Creating the image of Selena
Willy: Selena’s earlier designs showed her as strongly built, generally realistic, with slightly exaggerated proportions to make her look more natural in the game camera lens. The key was finding the right level of technology and overall feel for the design — the costume should give the player a sense of power (for example, a sword and jump drives help with this), but at the same time remain «civilian» and show Selena’s vulnerability to the threats that await her on Atropos . nine0003
Harry: As with many other types of creative work, character creation required a lot of rework. We started with a general style and looked at many different concepts. Some of the early sketches were more like classic spacesuits, while others were closer to the style of a space marine. It took several cycles to find the right balance between earthy, human elements, a sense of power and tactility, wear and tear.
Willie: The speed of the gameplay set the tone for many design elements. Temporary and permanent upgrades were also affected, such as parasites and a cat hook. A lot of effort and soul was invested in all this.
The main difficulty was to take into account all possible elements. At times, the abundance of possibilities made me nervous, but in the end we came to the conclusion that the basic suit turned out to be quite simple. It didn’t happen right away — we had to revisit the suit concept as new design requirements arose. nine0003
We didn’t want to make the design look tied to place or time. The human components needed to be instantly recognizable and, in a sense, shared. The earthiness of some of the impressions of the design was needed in order to make the strange parts stand out even better.
The backing does not connect to the hard pieces of the suit, the seams and materials are almost ordinary — and I added a little more deliberate clumsiness.
Choice of actress for Selena
Gregory: The plot already suggested a certain age for Selena to fit into it. This is a complex role, given all the themes and states of consciousness that we explore.
Harry: There is a lot of humanity in her character. We needed the perfect balance between understandable, charming, imperfect and strong-willed. At first, we used Furiosa from Mad Max, Ellen Ripley from Alien, Sarah Connor from The Terminator as references — strong, capable, uncompromising women in the lead roles, but as a result, we never found the ideal template. nine0003
We spent a lot of time recruiting actresses for the role of Selena in an attempt to embody all these aspects, and Ann Byer introduced herself to us — Greg, Willy and me — a natural performer of this role. She had the natural tenacity and charm that we wanted to see in Selena.
Willy: We had hundreds of photos of actresses at the casting; when I saw Ann, I said to the others: « Here is our Selena.» No one else would have been a better fit for the role, and I’m extremely happy that we’re working with her as a result. nine0003
Gregory: In addition to Ann, we needed a unique strong voice to tell her story. We quickly found Jane Perry and immediately wanted to work with her. She gave Selena humanity and wisdom. You can feel in every line of dialogue that she is honest, real — Jane did a great job, we are very proud of what she did with Selena.
Harry: Not the right word. Jane is an amazing voice actress, and together with Ann, who worked on motion capture, they really breathed life into Selena as a character. nine0003
Inversion of heroic stereotypes
Harry: Selena’s motherhood, her age, and herself as a character is largely a consequence of the story we wanted to tell. We first identified our story goals — what kind of emotional response we want to evoke in the players — and worked from there. We immediately knew that there would be a child in the story, a key event in the main character’s past, and we explore the theme of trauma that is passed down through the generations. Like all of us, Selena is defined by her surroundings. No other character could have been at the center of Returnal. nine0003
Willie: We didn’t talk much about it. Yes, of course, Selena does not put on makeup, she does not care about the disheveled hair, and her space suit is quite unisex — but we would not make any serious statement with this. Of course, it’s unusual to see the main character of this age, but this is what was required for the plot.
Gregory: In my mind, the best characters are not just characters, but the people you spend time with. I read the reactions on the internet and talked to the players. It seems that Selena really looks like this — and it means a lot to us. Nothing would change in our approach — everything that Selena is not makes her what she is. nine0003
Willy: There were comparisons to Gwendoline Christie from Game of Thrones — we didn’t plan on that, but I was very pleased to hear that! Housemarque is still located in Scandinavia. Here they know firsthand about tall and muscular women!

Review Game of Thrones — Episode 1: Iron From Ice PS4
The players did not have time to rest after the successful launch of Tales
from the Borderlands , as Iron From has already appeared in the yard
Ice is the first episode of the live-action adaptation of the popular TV show and
the epic saga of J. R. R. Martin from an equally famous studio
telltale games. After not the most successful two games in the universe «Song
Ice and Fire» from the French studio Cyanide all fans
the original without embellishment was waiting for a new project from the authors of the sensational The
Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead as manna from heaven. Developers
promised to show the biggest battles, a fascinating story
five members of the Forrester clan and the return of most
original cast of the television series
HBO. Have they been able to fulfill their obligations and provide
players for a truly authentic Game of Thrones experience where «You can
win or die. There is no third»? Good question which
we will try to answer you at the end of this review. nine0003
The main action of the game takes place at the very end of the third
of the season, right during the famous wedding of Edmure Tully with Roslyn
Frey, better known by another name — «Red Wedding». But
Before we continue, we should immediately warn you: this
the game is focused entirely on fans of the series and the epic

But back to the very main events of the first episode, earlier
the developers promised to show the story of five main characters at once,
but in Iron From Ice we are offered only three characters to choose from:
squire Gared Tuttle, caught in the very epicenter of the war; young
Lord Ethan Forrester, trying to somehow cope with his
new role at court, as well as his own sister Mira Forrester,
found herself in King’s Landing at the wrong time
moment. All of them belong to the ancient house of the Forrestors, one of
trusted allies of House Stark in the War of the Five Kings. Straightaway
it is worth mentioning that in the original books about this family
practically nothing is known, except that they live in the north
in the imposing fortress of Ironrath, surrounded by centuries-old
iron trees. The scriptwriters of the project decided to expand them
story, telling the players why they are so valuable to the Starks, not
considering their total loyalty. It turns out that from time immemorial the Forresters
control most of the iron forests of Wolfwood, and the iron
trees are known to be a valuable commodity in Westeros, because when created

Each character plays their own role in the overall story,
but they all have one main goal — to save the Forrester house from
decline. The plot for the first episode perfectly embodies the whole
the scale of the «Game of Thrones», where no matter how good
the main characters, they still play only a small role in the overall

full-fledged players on the chessboard. Developers like them

difficult decisions that you will often make throughout
two to three hours of passage. However, it should be noted that the script
the game is still stepping on the same rake, more than once offering players
a choice that does not really affect the overall course of events in any way
and even more so on key scenes. The most striking example is the last
a piece of the episode that is simply impossible to change, no matter how you

A double feeling remains from the new visual style of the studio. FROM
on the one hand, the rejection of bright cel-shader animation in favor of
an unusual and very gloomy picture, as if painted in oil,
went to the game only for the benefit. The cruel world of Westeros will never
spoiled with joyful events, and gray-brown tones
better depict the general situation and mood of the main characters. With another
hand, some scenes turned out to be too dark, from which
you have to turn the brightness setting to maximum
(this is especially true for versions for the previous generation of consoles),
in order to see at least something in the pitch darkness surrounding the main
heroes. In addition, the old Telltale Tool engine still suffers from
its meager character animation, but if earlier with this fact
could put up with it, now ugly movements and facial

As for the soundtrack and voice acting, there is no less to them
questions. Musical compositions are made in the spirit of the original
series, but you hear them infrequently, and even if a minute is given to them,
