Hi again! Last month we revealed our new Play at Home program for 2021, which aims to provide the PlayStation community with free games and entertainment offers to make the next few months a little more fun.

The program kicked off earlier this month with access to a free digital copy of the 2016 hit Ratchet & Clank for PS4 — and you can still claim a free digital copy of the game through March 31, 2021 at 8pm PDT* / April 1 at 4am BST / 5am CEST.

Now, let’s talk about the next Play at Home content drop, which hits March 25! This time our focus is a selection of free games from some of our top independent partners, and the previously announced extended trial offer for Funimation (or Wakanim) in the countries where they are available.

Starting March 25, 2021

PlayStation and some of our favorite indie partners are collaborating to provide more free games to explore while you’re staying safe and staying home:

Abzû

From the artistic mind behind Journey, Flower, and The Pathless, ABZÛ is a beautiful underwater adventure that evokes the dream of diving. Immerse yourself in a vibrant ocean world full of mystery and bursting with color and life.

Enter the Gungeon

Enter the Gungeon is a gunfight dungeon crawler following a band of misfits seeking to shoot, loot, dodge roll and table-flip their way to personal absolution by reaching the legendary Gungeon’s ultimate treasure: the gun that can kill the past.

Rez Infinite

Prepare yourself for the ultimate version of Rez, a thrilling journey of sights and sounds and shooting action, remastered and upgraded by members of the original development team exclusively for PS4 and (optional) PlayStation VR.

Subnautica

You have crash-landed on an alien ocean world, and the only way to go is down. Subnautica’s oceans range from sun-drenched shallow coral reefs to treacherous deep-sea trenches, lava fields, and bio-luminescent underwater rivers. The water teems with life: Some of it helpful, much of it harmful.

The Witness

The Witness is a single-player game in an open world with dozens of locations to explore and over 500 puzzles. This game respects you as an intelligent player and it treats your time as precious. There’s no filler: each of those puzzles brings its own new idea into the mix. So, this is a game full of ideas.

We’re also proud to serve up a selection of free PlayStation VR games*** starting on March 25:

Astro Bot Rescue Mission

Get a whole new perspective on platform games, thanks to PlayStation VR, in this daring rescue operation. Take control of Astro in a massive adventure to rescue his crew, where the PS VR headset puts you right in the thick of the action. Judge every jump with accuracy and be curious – there are lots of secrets to discover in your daring quest.

Moss

Moss is a single-player action-adventure puzzle game and new IP from Polyarc tailor-made for the VR platform. In Moss, players meet Quill, a young mouse with dreams of greatness beyond the confines of her settlement. While exploring the woods, she finds a mysterious Glass Relic and an ancient magic is awakened.

Thumper

Thumper is rhythm violence: classic rhythm-action, blistering speed, and brutal physicality. You are a space beetle. Brave the hellish void and confront a maniacal giant head from the future. Every crushing impact is interwoven with a pounding original soundtrack. To reach synesthetic bliss, you must go through rhythm hell.

Paper Beast

Experience a dreamlike odyssey in virtual reality. Discover a wild ecosystem, born from lost Internet data. Be the first to explore a world inhabited by exotic and surprising creatures, and shape your environment to overcome obstacles and puzzles. Unravel the mysteries of Paper Beast, a game born from the imagination of Eric Chahi (Another World, From Dust).

This amazing selection of PS4 games and PS VR games will be available for free download from March 25 8:00pm PT / March 26 03:00 GMT / 04:00 CET to April 22 8:00pm PT / April 23 04:00 BST / 05:00 CEST.

Funimation / Wakanim

Don’t forget: in participating countries, we’re also offering an extended trial of Funimation (or Wakanim, depending on region), a joint venture of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Aniplex of Japan. The anime-focused subscription service includes shows such as My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Attack on Titan, and Fruits Basket. This extended trial offer  kicks off on March 25 and is available through April 22****.

Starting April 19, 2021

But there’s more to come later this spring. Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition will be available for free download between April 19 8:00pm PT / April 20 04:00 BST / 05:00 CEST and May 14 8:00pm Pacific Time / May 15 04:00 BST / 05:00 CEST.

PlayStation Could Bring Back Play at Home Free Games if COVID Continues

By
Daniel DeAngelo

Sony Interactive CEO and Jim Ryan discusses the future of the Play at Home initiative, the company’s response to COVID-19, during a recent interview.

PlayStation’s Play at Home initiative was undoubtedly a bright spot for many gamers during the COVID-19 pandemic. It let fans download free PlayStation games and helped small developers continue to make great games despite the economic hardship created by the pandemic.

In a recent interview, PlayStation boss and Sony Interactive CEO Jim Ryan said that Play at Home’s free games could return in the future. However, that is not necessarily good news, as it would require a continuation of the ongoing pandemic.

RELATED: New PlayStation 5 Firmware Update is Available Now

Christopher Dring of GamesIndustry.biz recently spoke to Ryan during an event in London. The interview touched on several topics, including his career, the future of PlayStation, and Sony’s response to COVID-19. Dring brought up Play at Home during the middle part of the conversation. Ryan explained that Sony Interactive Entertainment began the initiative to keep people entertained during the first wave of lockdowns in 2020. The company then brought it back during COVID’s resurgence last winter. When asked about the future of Play at Home, Ryan said PlayStation would keep bringing it back as long as it seemed necessary. That means the free games will most likely only return if COVID goes through another resurgence.

That’s bittersweet news for anyone hoping Play at Home’s free games would continue. According to Ryan, players redeemed 60 million games during the initiative. The available titles included a variety of PS4 and PS VR titles, including Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Ratchet and Clank, Subnautica, and Horizon Zero Dawn – Complete Edition. Play at Home also offered free in-game items and currency and an extended trial for the Funimation streaming service.

The interview also discussed other ways Sony has reacted to the ongoing pandemic. Ryan touched on the difficulties of rolling out a console amidst pandemic-related hardware shortages. There was also a discussion about the challenges of promoting games without hands-on-demos or public events. Ryan himself noted that he’d had to adapt to an unusual schedule due to living in London and having virtual meetings with people in Japan and the United States. He also noted that launching the PlayStation 5 from his dining room was a strange experience he’d rather not repeat.

However, Ryan says he’s satisfied with how the company handled the difficulties of the last two years. The PlayStation executive notes the company managed to move 10 million PS5 consoles in an impressively short time. He also mentioned the dual success of Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2 and other games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. While it didn’t come up during the interview, and at the risk of sounding blase, one could even argue that the COVID lockdowns did Sony a big favor.

Hello again! Last month, we introduced you to our new Play at Home 2021 initiative, which aims to delight the PlayStation community with free games and entertainment and make the next few months a little more fun.

The initiative launched earlier this month with access to a free digital copy of the popular 2016 PS4 game Ratchet & Clank – and you can still download your free digital copy until 06:00 UTC on April 1st.

Now let’s talk about the next Play at Home offerings that will be available starting March 26th! This time around, we’ve rounded up the best indie titles for you, as well as the previously announced Funimation (or Wakanim) extended trial offer in countries where the service is available.

Starting March 26, 2021

PlayStation and our favorite indie developers have teamed up to bring even more free games to players and brighten up their time at home:

Abzu

ABZÛ is a colorful underwater adventure from the talented creators of Journey, Flower and The Pathless, where you have to practice diving. Immerse yourself in the picturesque world of the ocean, full of mysteries and bright colors.

Enter the Gungeon

Enter the Gungeon is a dungeon shooting game in which a gang of outcasts must use weapons, loot, dodge attacks and destroy everything around on the way to redemption, for which they must be taken over the main treasure of the legendary Gungeon dungeon: a cannon capable of destroying the past.

Rez Infinite

Get ready for the most complete version of Rez, an exciting journey through the world of sights, sounds and gunplay, updated and improved by the developers of the original version exclusively for PS4 and PlayStation VR.

Subnautica

You are wrecked on an alien ocean world where the only way is down. Subnautica’s oceans range from sun-drenched coral reefs to treacherous deep sea crevices, lava fields and bioluminescent underwater rivers. The waters are teeming with living creatures: some of them are useful, many are dangerous.

The Witness

The Witness is a single player game that immerses you in a diverse open world with over five hundred puzzles and dozens of locations. The game comes from the fact that an intelligent person interacts with it, whose time is valuable. Not a single riddle serves simply to complicate the passage, each carries a thought. The whole game is full of meaning.

We are also happy to offer you free games for PlayStation VR***, which you can get from March 26:

Astro Bot Rescue Mission

Experience platform games from a new perspective with PlayStation VR in this desperate rescue mission. Control Astro and go on a big adventure to find your team. The PS VR headset puts you in the thick of things. Calculate every jump and let your curiosity run wild to find many secrets during your brave trip.

Moss

Moss is a fast-paced single-player puzzle adventure and a new game from Polyarc designed specifically for VR. In Moss, you will meet Quill, a little mouse who dreams of a big world. She finds a mysterious stone in the forest, and it awakens ancient magic.

Thumper

Everything you do becomes part of a stunning and powerful soundtrack. Overcome rhythmic hell to achieve catharsis.

Paper Beast

Embark on a fantasy odyssey in virtual reality. Explore an unimaginable ecosystem born from data lost in the depths of the World Wide Web. Be the first to discover a world full of exotic and fantastic creatures. Create and create to overcome difficulties and obstacles. And Ratchet & Clank played when they were in the black, but the trilogy
Ancharteda bought one of the first games)
For beginners of the platform, an excellent fit) Cool games. I hope in
next year they will give me what I don’t have)

redSnake , read carefully, there is something about 4 months
written!)

Lennox , Still give away for good (2 and 3 lines in
insert). «…from 07:00 (UTC) March 2 to 06:00 (UTC) April 1, 2021
of the year. Once you download the game, it will remain yours
forever»…
.

DeusMuerte , the comment above is not about the fact that the game is given only for
four months, and the fact that within four months they will distribute
games. Not like last year — once in April.

Well, let’s see what happens next, and Ratchet & Clank was already in
plus a couple of years ago and plus collections that year. Now decided
distribute to everyone on the eve of the new part. Great game new part
already preordered.

Cool! Finally getting to know the series. Sony lately straight
does not save)

Teleri

Lamandro , just for the money saved at Japan Studio
they were able to get Control and FF VIIR in plus, as well as distribute
Ratchet… Oh, it would be really funny if it wasn’t like that.
sad.

Teleri , I thought that this was already in the past,
competitors are buying up everything, and then…
the indicators are not very good, but maybe FFXVI will be distributed in the black, and there at least
flood(

Picked up on the PS5 release and knocked out the platinum. But who hasn’t got the game yet, my
congratulations. The game is good in every sense, the only thing for
platinum you need to complete the game 1.5 times, and in my case it turned out 4
times.
I hope they will make a selection from the ps plus collection, otherwise for
I will be very sad.)

Pro100Deniss , Does it go to ps5 at 30fps?

Buldiga288 , Yeah, but I can say you get used to it very quickly, yes
And the game isn’t that hard either.

Pro100Deniss , Played on PS4. Played well, but on PS5
I want 60fps still

Now the paranoid will come running and will accuse the old Sonya of
it’s already been distributed on a plus and they demand the replacement of these Igors with
others — tlow2 and Tsushima!)

Distribute the first part of the ancient Ratchet in anticipation of the release of the new
parts on PS5
Port the first parts of Harizen and Days Gon to PC to attract
attention to the second parts on PS5

Nothing personal, the logical moves of a huge corporation before the second
stage of sales of a new generation of set-top boxes.

podvodn1k , possibility of porting Ratchet & Clank to PC
is also great.

So the hand came out super, who has ps +: speech, final, 100+
hours to platinum secured.

MorZZ , For some reason it is not written here, but a plus is not needed for
Ratchet

R-m_Fenix , PS+ not needed for Ratchet & Clank.

DeusMuerte , This was not a question for the comment above, but
assertion that Ratchet’s plus and distribution are different things

Lombax for every robot!

who has children — take away

Slavikk

Swordin , who does not have it, must also be taken. Sony has a promotion —
stay home and make babies)

And the Uncharted trilogy, and Journey, and Ratchet & Clank, and Injustice
from WB is on disks. But still, such gifts are sinful
refuse)

Ratchet & Clank is one of the best games I’ve played on
PS4.
True, I did not knock out one trophy.

LinaFlower , time trial? Which was advised on disk
version without patch pass

Posted by warhammer82

LinaFlower , time trial? Which
advised on the disk version without a patch to pass

Yes. Race against time.

what kind of initiative, guys?
What is play at home?

butcher_31337 last year when everyone is quarantined
locked up, Sony gave away without ps plus for free Uncharted 1-3 and Journey
as a support for the people sitting at home. It seems to be not very
it’s a pity because pastgen, but it seems to be nice for gamers because good games
for free.
Now it looks more like a promotion or an attempt to clean
karma. Although Ratchet & Clank looks like a very pleasant
present. Until June, once a month something is free without a plus forever
promise to distribute.

Lamandro , ahh)) well then this is a great initiative)

What are you talking about Ratchet, 90 days of vacanim does not please anyone chtoli? I
for example, I enjoy singing. By the way, I don’t know why, but intuition
hints that the games being given away will be from the PS Plus list
Collection, but this is not accurate) Wanguyu Infamos Second Sun in the distribution.

orochimaru32 , Sony will only distribute games from its own
studios as a third party
you have to pay for distribution.

They may well then distribute Resident Evil 7 / Horizon Zero Dawn, so
as new parts are on the way.

LinaFlower , Resident Evil 7 is unlikely. After all, they are handing out
free, not for a subscription. Sony gives away its games to RE7
you need to distribute money in Capcom to bring.
Horizon Zero Dawn is quite possible, the game is already on PC, and many times on
sales was sold, it is possible that it will be something like
The Last Guardian or, as it was written above
orochimaru32 , Infamous: Second Son.

LinaFlower , or a knight’s move — they can give Days Gone, due to
its release on PC

As an option, yes. Here’s another thought. Medievil can also be rolled out.

Nothing will surprise me now. Maybe they will roll out Bloodborne,
Horizon: Zero Dawn. Nothing else comes to mind for now.

Fencer32 , Bloodborne is not from sony din.

Posted by al79spb

Bloodborne is not from Sony Gum.

Bloodborne developed FromSoftware with support from SCE Japan
Studio (still an internal Sony studio) commissioned by Sony, with money
