Press the PS button on the controller and select a user.
- When using the controller for the first time, it must be paired with the PS4™ system.
- Up to four controllers can be used simultaneously. When you press the PS button, the lightbar will light up in the color assigned to the user. The color is determined by the order in which users press the PS buttons on their controllers. The first user gets blue, the second gets red, the third gets green, the fourth gets pink.
Device registration
Controller registration (as a pair) is required the first time you use it, or if you want to use the controller on another PS4™ system. Turn on the system and connect the controller to it using the USB cable.
If you are going to use two or more controllers, each controller must be registered separately.
Charging
The controller’s battery is charged when you connect the controller to the PS4™ system using the USB cable. The system must be powered on or in rest mode. The battery level can be checked on the screen that appears when you press and hold the PS button.
In rest mode, the lightbar flashes orange slowly. When charging is completed, the light bar will turn off.
- It takes approximately 2 hours to charge a fully discharged battery.
- Charge the controller between 10°C and 30°C. In other conditions, charging the controller may be less efficient.
- To keep the controller in good working order, fully charge it at least once a year.
- Battery life depends on how the controller is used and the environment in which the controller is used and stored.
- To charge from the system in rest mode, select an option other than [Off] in (Settings) > [Power saving settings] > [Select features available in rest mode] > [Power to USB connectors].

Touchpad actions
The touchpad and touchpad button can perform various actions, depending on the data used.

Changing settings
To change the speaker volume and other controller settings, select (Settings) on the function screen, then select [Devices] > [Controllers].
- In some games and applications, you can hear sound effects through the speaker on the controller.
- You can also adjust the speaker volume and related settings by selecting [Sound/Devices] from the quick menu.

How to connect a PS4 controller to PS5
There are several reasons why you might want to know how to connect a PS4 controller to PS5. First, you might put off buying a second PS5 DualSense pad due to price or reliability concerns. And you may also need one if you plan on playing certain PSVR games on PS5.
The good news is that you can use a PS4 controller with a PS5, and in this guide, we’ll show you how to connect and disconnect a DualShock 4 spare pad. Before we get started, you should be aware of one big limitation: you can’t use the pad PS4 for games on PS5. This is especially infuriating since Sony allows you to do exactly that when streaming your PS5 games to another device, but here we are. So why would you want to use a PS4 tablet with a PS5? Backward compatibility. While the DualSense pad will work with all PS4 games (with the exception of PSVR games that use the DualShock 4 lightbar), connecting a second DualShock 4 pad will allow you to play PS4 local multiplayer games on your PS5 without purchasing additional hardware. In my home, this proved invaluable for Splitscreen Rocket League and collaborative research in Spelunky 2. So, without further ado, here’s how to connect a PS4 controller to a PS5.
How to connect a PS4 controller to PS5
1. Locate the microUSB cable
(Image credit: Wikipedia) The latest generation PS4 tablet uses a microUSB cable, so you can’t just use the PS5 DualSense cable.
Locate the microUSB cable and plug it into one of the PS5’s USB ports.
2. Connect the DualShock 4 pad.

3. Turn on the controller.

The PS4 pad is now paired with the PS5 and you don’t need to repeat this step again. You can even turn on the PS5 by holding down the PlayStation button, as if you were using the DualSense pad.
How to disconnect the PS4 controller from the PS5
While you can remap the DualShock 4 controller by connecting it to another device, you can also ensure that the PS5 forgets about the pad.
