Every Shiny Eevee Evolution, Ranked

If you’re a devoted player of Pokemon Go, you’ve probably made it part of your mission in the game to collect all of the Eeveelutions. Along with the normal evolutions of Eevee, dedicated players also want to evolve the shiny versions, too. With eight Eeveelutions plus Eevee itself, collecting all the shiny Eevee evolutions Pokemon GO has can be quite a task.

For this ranking, we’re not just looking at appearance. We’ll look at appearance in conjunction with max CP, stats, and potential in battle as well, to provide this list of all of the best shiny Eevee evolutions ranked from worst to best.

Updated on August 25, 2022 by Gabrielle Huston: All of the current Eeveelutions have been in the game for a while now! If you’ve collected all the regular forms, maybe you’re looking for the Shiny versions now? We’re here to let you know which ones you should prioritize.

9/9 Shiny Eevee

While Eevee isn’t an Eeveelution in the technical sense, it is the start of it all. Shiny Eevee is pretty neat, muting out the vibrant brown of regular Eevee for more of a pale grey. The colors are washed out and give a more subtle look to this fan-favorite Pokemon.

Even though it has a nice shiny variant, it will of course rank the lowest on this list because it’s virtually unusable in most battle formats. Eevee is a Normal-type that has a max CP of 1,210 (1,071 at level 40) and 104/114/146 max Attack/Defense/Stamina. If you’re looking to evolve shiny Eevees, you’ll want to make sure their stats are maxed out to get the most powerful versions that you can.

How To Get A Shiny Eevee

You’ll need to catch a Shiny Eevee in the world! If Eevee is featured in a Community Day, you’ll have an even better chance of catching a Shiny.

The Eeveelutions can be evolved from an Eevee a few different methods, but one of them is to change their nickname in-game to something specific. This only works once per account per nickname.

8/9 Shiny Leafeon

Max CP (Lvl 40) Max CP (Lvl 50) ATK DEF STA
2,944 3,328 216 219 163

Leafeon is one of the newer additions to the game as far as Eeveelutions are concerned. This is the Grass-type evolution and has a max CP of 3,328 (level 40: 2,944). While its max CP is lower than Flareon’s, Leafeon isn’t necessarily that much worse. For its stat spread, it has 216 /219/163 for max Attack, Defense, and Stamina. The problem is, Grass-types don’t have much place in the PvE meta, though they aren’t totally useless.

Shiny Leafeon is more than a little subtle. The colors become a bit darker and more vibrant, which is a nice differentiation from the normal manila-yellow that so many Pokemon are. However, it’s really almost unnoticeable, making it pretty underwhelming.

How To Get A Shiny Leafeon

One time, you can nickname your Shiny Eevee as «Linnea» and evolve it to get a guaranteed Leafeon. To evolve a Shiny Eevee into a Leafeon without using the nickname, you need to use 25 Candies to evolve the Eevee while standing in the proximity of an active Mossy Lure Module.

As always, if you see a Leafeon in the wild, there’s a small chance it may be Shiny.

7/9 Shiny Flareon

Max CP (Lvl 40) Max CP (Lvl 50) ATK DEF STA
3,029 3,424 246 179 163

Flareon was once one of only three shiny Eevee evolutions Pokemon had to offer, alongside Vaporeon and Jolteon. A Fire-type that has a max CP of 3,424 (level 40: 3029), Flareon has a nice max Attack/Defense/Stamina distribution of 246/179/163.

Flareon is an alright Pokemon to have when you need a Fire-type, but it pales in comparison to others, like Moltres, Heatran, Entei, Reshiram, and more. It doesn’t have access to a fantastic array of moves, either. However, since it isn’t a Legendary, it can be much cheaper to power up a Flareon than many of the top Fire-types.

RELATED: Pokemon Go: Every Loading Screen In Chronological Order

Flareon is boosted by sunny weather, which is good to note if you’re trying to battle with your shiny Eevee evolutions. As far as appearance is concerned, the shiny Flareon is mostly just a muted version of the original. The coat is a more gold/tan color as opposed to a brighter orange/red that the original has. It’s alright, but it’s not the best shiny Eeveelution by any metric.

How To Get A Shiny Flareon

Just one time, you can change a Shiny Eevee’s name in Pokemon Go to «Pyro» and evolve it to get a guaranteed Flareon. Otherwise, you get a Flareon by evolving a Shiny Eevee with 25 Candies (so long as the conditions to evolve the Eevee into a different Eeveelution haven’t been met). There is no way to guarantee that you will get Flareon; this method either turns out a Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon.

As with other Pokemon, there’s also a small chance that a Flareon you see in the wild will be Shiny.

6/9 Shiny Jolteon

Max CP (Lvl 40) Max CP (Lvl 50) ATK DEF STA
2,888 3,265 232 182 163

Jolteon is the Electric-type Eeveelution, introduced in Generation I with Vaporeon and Flareon. The shiny version of Jolteon is not for everyone, but others love it. Jolteon’s coat changes from a bright yellow-gold to almost lime green. It’s not the most appealing color ever, but it is a fun change that’s a lot less subtle than other Eeveelutions.

With a max Attack/Defense/Stamina spread of 232/182/163, Jolteon definitely packs a punch, but it’s a bit of a glass cannon. Once upon a time, Jolteon was the ruler of Electric-types, but it has since been outclassed by other Pokemon, like Electivire and Raikou. However, it still has some use in PvP, especially the Ultra League. Its max CP is 3,265 (2,888 at level 40).

How To Get Shiny Jolteon

If you give your Shiny Eevee the nickname «Sparky,» it is guaranteed to evolve into Jolteon (only once per account, though). Without the nickname, there is no guaranteed way to get Jolteon. You have a 33 percent chance of getting it while evolving a Shiny Eevee with 25 Candies, as long as no other conditions for other Eeveelutions have been met.

Again, if you happen to see a Jolteon in the wild, there’s also a small chance it may be Shiny.

5/9 Shiny Vaporeon

Max CP (Lvl 40) Max CP (Lvl 50) ATK DEF STA Nickname
3,114 3,521 205 161 277 «Rainer»

Vaporeon was one of the original Eeveelutions and has a max CP of 3,521 (level 40: 3,114). Players who have been around since Pokemon GO’s release might remember a time when ol’ Vaporeon was the undisputed champion of the game, easily being the best attacker against gyms. However, those days are long past, and Vaporeon has been knocked down the tier list several times, blow-by-blow.

Nowadays, it’s a nice budget option, but it’s significantly outclassed by Kyogre, Gyarados, Palkia, Swampert, and many more. It sees some use in the GO Battle League, with middling potential. However, it’s once again outclassed by other options in every league. Fortunately, with its 277 max Stamina, it can stay on its feet for a pretty decent amount of time. Its Attack is okay, maxing at 205, while its Defense is a bit disappointing at 161.

As for its shiny, Vaporeon’s new magenta coloring is definitely eye-catching. It’s probably one of the most drastic changes of any Eeveelution between the normal and shiny variants, and it’s definitely one of the more appealing ones.

How To Get Shiny Vaporeon

The nickname that you can give a Shiny Eevee that will always result in it evolving into Vaporeon is «Rainer.» As always, it only works once per account. Like Flareon and Jolteon, Vaporeon is the third and final Pokemon that cannot reliably be evolved. It is a 33 percent chance whenever you evolve a Shiny Eevee with 25 Candies and no other special conditions.

If you’re lucky and spot a Vaporeon in the wild, there’s a small chance it may be Shiny.

4/9 Shiny Glaceon

Max CP (Lvl 40) Max CP (Lvl 50) ATK DEF STA Nickname
3,126 3,535 238 205 163 «Rea»

Glaceon is the Ice-type Eeveelution, added to the game at the same time as Leafeon. Glaceon’s max CP is 3,535 (level 40: 3,126), which is very nice. For max stats, you’re looking at 238/205/163 in Attack/Defense/Stamina. These might not look that impressive, but in PvE, Glaceon is a fantastic choice. Sure, it’ll be outclassed by Ice-types like Mamoswine and Weavile, but it is a fantastic addition if you don’t have six of the top Ice-type attackers. Glaceon is comfortably «B-team» material.

PvP is another matter, as it doesn’t shine too much. Against the Dragon- and Ground-types of the Ultra and Master leagues like Giratina and Groudon, it’s pretty good, but Ice isn’t great defensively and Glaceon doesn’t have a lot of bulk.

RELATED: Pokemon Go: Pokemon With The Highest HP

As for shiny Glaceon’s design, the Ice-type isn’t winning any awards, but it is very pretty. It’s probably one of the most subtle changes on the entire list of shiny Eevee evolutions, swapping out some of the teal for a slightly bluer and lighter color. It definitely looks more «icy» in its shiny version, so that’s nice.

How To Get Shiny Glaceon

You can nickname a Shiny Eevee «Rea» and evolve it, and you’re guaranteed to get a Glaceon (once per account). Otherwise, the only way to evolve a Shiny Eevee into a Glaceon is to do it while you’re standing near an active Glacial Lure Module, which uses 25 Candies.

Then, of course, you might get incredibly lucky and see a Glaceon in the wild, in which case there’s a small chance it will be Shiny.

3/9 Shiny Sylveon

Max CP (Lvl 40) Max CP (Lvl 50) ATK DEF STA Nickname
3,069 3,470 203 205 216 «Kira»

Sylveon’s battle potential is on par with Vaporeon and Jolteon, but it ranks a higher than them thanks to its absolutely fantastic shiny form. Swapping out its pink for blue (and bits of blue for pink), Sylveon’s shiny is a standout that perfectly matches with its normal coloring. The two together are really great.

As for its combat potential, Sylveon is okay. It’s a decent option for a Fairy-type attacker, especially when you’re on a (Candy) budget. With a max CP of 3,470 (3.069 at level 40), and 203/205/216 in max Attack/Defense/Stamina, it just can’t measure up to other Fairy-type attackers like Togekiss and Gardevoir. It’ll do alright in PvP, especially since it’s a good check on commonly-used Pokemon like Giratina and Dialga, but it still doesn’t measure up to Togekiss in higher leagues or Wigglytuff/Clefable in lower ones.

How To Get Shiny Sylveon

As with the other Eeveelutions, you can nickname a Shiny Eevee «Kira» and it will always evolve into a Sylveon, as long as it’s your first time using this nickname on your account. Without the nickname, the method for evolving a Shiny Eevee into Sylveon might take you a while; you need to earn 70 hearts with the Eevee as your buddy, first.

Sylveon in the wild has a small chance of being Shiny.

2/9 Shiny Espeon

Max CP (Lvl 40) Max CP (Lvl 50) ATK DEF STA Nickname
3,170 3,583 261 175 163 «Sakura»

Espeon is one of the most elegant looking of the Eevee evolutions, but the shiny version is quite different from the original. The regular Espeon has a light purple-pink coat while shiny Espeon has a bright green one. It’s easy to draw a comparison to a cartoon alien, what with the bright green coloring, antenna-like tail, and round face.

While shiny Espeon might be a bit strange-looking, this Psychic-type is easily the best Eeveelution in PvE battle. With a max CP of 3,583 (3,170 at level 40) and max Attack/Defense/Stamina of 261/175/163, it dominates against Fighting- and Poison-type raids and gym defenders like Machamp and Venusaur. Its max Attack stat is the second-highest of any Eeveelution stat (just behind Vaporeon’s max of 271 in Stamina), placing it just behind the absolute behemoths of the Psychic-type like Mewtwo and Latios. Like Glaceon, it’s a fantastic B-team choice, but it can make its way onto the A-team easily, especially given how much more obtainable it is than other Psychic-type top-tiers.

As for PvP… let’s not talk about it. It’s bad. But! If you’re looking to battle with your shiny Eeveelutions in general, shiny Espeon is definitely the best in PvE, no contest.

How To Get Shiny Espeon

To get a Shiny Espeon, you could evolve a Shiny Eevee. First, you could use Espeon’s special nickname. If you nickname your Shiny Eevee «Sakura,» you’re guaranteed to get an Espeon the first time. Without the nickname, you’ll need to do a little work. The Shiny Eevee must be fed 25 Candies during the daytime after walking 10km as your Buddy.

If you happen to catch an Espeon in the wild, there’s a chance, however small, it will be Shiny.

1/9 Shiny Umbreon

Max CP (Lvl 40) Max CP (Lvl 50) ATK DEF STA Nickname
2,137 2,416 126 240 216 «Tamao»

Umbreon might be one of the most sleekly designed Eeveelutions; its Shiny Form is just different enough to be a standout while being subtle enough to not be garish. While Umbreon’s black and yellow design is iconic and screams night-sky-with-stars, the shiny also gives off a nightfall vibe, but one that’s a bit more romantic and subdued with the black and blue. Either way, the night-like aesthetic is perfect for this Pokemon that’s so commonly associated with the night.

As for its battle potential, we’re finally getting somewhere on this ranking. Before the introduction of PvP, Umbreon was among the lower ranks of Eeveelutions due to its low CP and Attack. Now, though, it excels in both the Great and Ultra leagues, ranking in the upper tiers of all Pokemon.

With a max CP of 2,416 (level 40: 2,137), Umbreon is an alright defender in gyms, but not great as an attacker. In the Battle League, though, it’s one of the best. Due to its low Attack and high Defense (126 max Attack, 240 max Defense, and 216 max Stamina), it’ll stay standing for a long time against most attackers, save for Fighting-types. It never used to be that great in the Ultra League, but with the Best Buddy boost, it’ll be a massive tank and check common opponents like Giratina.

How To Get Shiny Umbreon

Shiny Umbreon can be evolved from Shiny Eevee if you give it the nickname «Tamao.» This only works once per account; after that, you’ll need to feed the Shiny Eevee 25 Candies, walk with it for 10km as your Buddy, and evolve it during the night.

Umbreon you see in the wild have a small chance of being Shiny, too.

Pokmon Let’s Go, Pikachu & Let’s Go, Eevee

How To Get Shiny Pokmon

Shiny Pokmon are always a special thing in Pokmon games, and Pokmon Let’s Go, Pikachu! & Let’s Go, Eevee continues this tradition of obtaining Shiny Pokmon, but there’s a small change. As you can see the Pokmon in the overworld, you can see more Pokmon on the field, you have more chances of spotting a Shiny Pokmon without starting the encounter.

The base rate is 1 in 4,096 but as with all Pokmon games since Black 2 & White 2, you can receive the Shiny Charm in Celadon City for completing the Pokdex in order to increase those base odds to 1 in 1,365.

There are however, several ways to increase your chances of finding a Shiny Pokmon, but remember that even if a rate is set to be 1 in a certain amount, the rates don’t decrease with each encounter meaning that even after 1000 encounters, you’ll still have the same odds and you may go over odds.

These ways to increase do not affect the Shiny Chances of Gift or Alolan Form trades. The chances for those are always 1 in 4,096

Lures

Lures are the most basic of ways to get a Shiny rate boost. When using a Lure, you get an increased chance of getting a Shiny Pokmon, essentially 1 extra roll to attempt to get a shiny. This works with Lure, Super Lure and Max Lure, all of which can be purchased at any PokMart in Kanto

Catch Combos

Catch Combos, where you catch the same species of Pokmon are the best way to increase Shiny odds. As you go through the combo, the Shiny chances increased. Compounded with Shiny Charm and a Lure, this means you could be 15 times more likely to find a Shiny Pokmon than normal. This only works for the next spawn and you need to keep the Catch Combo going if you wish to have the increased rates.

Pokemon GO When and How to Evolve a Brilliant Eevee

Pokemon GO players who are deciding how and when to evolve their Brilliant Eevee versions after Community Day should read this guide before making a decision.

Pokemon GO players around the world have spent the last two days collecting thousands of Eevee during the Community Day event. During this time, many players have probably picked up a handful of shiny Eevee. Deciding when and how to evolve them is now a big decision for many coaches.

Because Eevee’s evolution is random by default in Pokemon GO, players need to be careful if they have a limited amount of Glitter and are aiming for a certain evolution. With that in mind, here are some tips for each of the possible scenarios…

Use the name trick for Flareon, Vaporeon and Jolteon (if you haven’t already)

If we only knew that the brilliant Eevee was on the way during the first summer of Pokemon GO… At the very beginning of the game, players discovered that the evolutions of the 1st generation Eevee could be controlled by renaming the Eevee to…

Sparky = JolteonRainer = VaporeonPyro = Flareon

Unfortunately, this trick only works once per account. This means that players who have already used it will not be able to use it again to get a shiny Eevee. If players want to get a shiny version of Flareon, Vaporeon or Jolteon and have already used the name trick, unfortunately it depends on the luck of the draw.

There’s always a chance that new evolution items will be added to the game eventually, so players who are unlucky can hold on to some extra shiny Eevee and wait.

Use the buddy trick for Espeon or Umbreon

Similar to generation 1 evolutions, Espeon and Umbreon also have a name trick that only works once:

Sakura = EspeonTamao = Umbreon

there is a second way to bring about these specific evolutions, which can be repeated. Players can control these evolutions by making the Eevee their buddy, walking 10km with it (earning 2 candy), and then evolving either during the day for an Espeon or at night for an Umbreon.

Remember that evolution must take place while Eevee is still your buddy. This part is very important and players often forget about it.

Wait for Gleison and Lyfon

Players who have a few shiny Eevee in stock should definitely set aside a few for the 4th generation evolution. It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it seems highly likely that the 4th generation evolutions will also have a one-time use to change the name. Wait for them to be added to the game and the community will determine if the name change trick works or not.

Keep the Eevee

Although not very powerful, the shiny version of the Eevee looks great! We highly recommend keeping one shiny version as an Eevee to showcase in the gyms.

Pokemon GO is now available in select regions on Android and iOS devices.

You’ve already filled your Pokedex with regular critters, but now it’s time to hunt down the shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Unlike regular ‘mon, Shiny Pokémon come in their own unique colors and have very rare chances of being caught in the wild. The good news is that you can catch shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Go, you just need to know where to look and which particular Pokemon has the rarer variety. Niantic is always releasing new glitters to the world through Community Days, but sometimes they release them unannounced. Plus, with Drifloon, Budew, and Shinx as the only shiny Gen 4 Pokemon in Pokemon Go, there’s a lot more to come, and it’s important to stay on top of what’s new. Here’s each one you can catch and how you can get them.

  • How to catch the same in Pokemon Go
  • How to catch Spinda in Pokemon Go
  • How to catch Pokemon Go Legendaries
  • Pokemon Go Special item

How to Catch a Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Go

It’s technically no secret that you can catch a Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Go, but there are several ways to increase your chances. First of all, it’s important to note that you won’t see the glitter while you’re wandering around the map. You need to get to the capture screen before you can see if the Pokemon is a rarer version. If you’re pressed for time and don’t have time to catch every Pokemon of a particular variety that you can see, all you have to do is jump out of the catching screen and you can keep up the brilliant check without any Poke Ball waste.

Shiny Pokémon differ in color from their standard counterparts. This can be obvious — like the gray coloration of a shiny Eevee or the blue tint of a shiny Snorunt — but it can also be a little more subtle, like a shiny Minoon. a little bit another color of the red or yellowish tint of Magikarp. If you can’t tell if you’re looking at a shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Go, don’t miss the opportunity to see the ring of stars around the Pokemon when it appears on screen, or catch one and look at your Pokemon collection screen. Here you will find a set of three stars next to the entry to make sure you don’t accidentally send it to the professor for candy.

It’s also important to note that Shiny Pokemon are not like standard Pokemon, as they are unique to each Pokemon Trainer. Even on Community Day, when tires have a much higher chance, you can catch a shiny version of a Pokemon that is only the standard version for another player. This definitely makes the game more fun as everyone in the group will find glitter in different places. Just don’t blame us when people get mad when you find all the shiny chicory…

While Shiny Pokémon are Exceptionally rare, there is at least one day a month where you are almost guaranteed to get your Poke Balls on a Shiny Pokémon if you play during the allotted period. Pokemon Go Community Days are made for brilliant hunters. These days, there is a huge increase in the number of appearances of one particular Pokémon for three hours or sometimes longer. Not only does the selected Pokémon for that day have a special move if it evolved during that period, but the speed of Brilliant Spells has also increased significantly. By playing for three hours and testing each Pokémon, you should be able to guarantee at least one shine. While there are still odds like the Hunger Games, Community Day should set them in your favor.

Previous Community Days featured the brilliant Eevee who can transform into brilliant versions of his evolutions, the brilliant Charmander who transforms into an incredibly black shiny Charizard, and the brilliant Beldum who transforms into the amazingly shiny Metagross.
