The Outlast Trials Confirmed for Gamescom 2022

Gamescom 2022 is set to kick off next week, and among many other things, there will be a chance to check out content from the upcoming Outlast Trials.
The last entry in Red Barrels’ terrifyingly disturbing Outlast series was back in 2017. Ever since then, fans have been eagerly anticipating The Outlast Trials. Five years is not a huge amount of time to wait, but with the first game from 2013 being considered one of the best horror games to mess with player’s minds, many will be curious to see where the developer will take things. Since being announced, there’s not been a large amount of information about the game, but there is some new stuff to check out very soon.
According to a recent post on Twitter, fans will be able to take a «brand new look» at The Outlast Trials during Gamescom 2022. Things will kick off during the Opening Night Live event, which starts next Tuesday at 8 PM CEST, 7 PM BST, 2 PM ET, and 11 AM PT. Exactly what’s going to be shown off is not certain at this stage, but those who have been waiting a long time to finally see some additional content from the upcoming horror game won’t have long to wait.

Xbox confirmed the plans for Gamescom 2022, which will be taking place between August 23 and August 28, though the actual event proper begins on Thursday, August 25 at 10 AM CEST. Among other things, attendees who will be there in person will be able to get hands-on experience with a number of titles, including A Plague Tale: Requiem, Sea of Thieves, and Ages of Empires 4. There’s also going to be virtual meet and greets for those who are watching online, as well as interviews with developers, such as Mojang and Obsidian Entertainment.
As for Red Barrels and what it’s been up to recently, last month the company revealed a new Outlast Trials teaser with a full documentary on the way. While this third entry, or fourth if one counts Whiteblower as a separate game rather than DLC, still seems to have that Outlast look and style that made the original so memorable for horror fans, the studio is opting to go in a slightly different direction. Namely, Trials will have a multiplayer feature, where friends will help each other out to survive the experiments at Murkoff, set during the Cold War.
Along with Scorn and the Dead Space remake, Outlast Trials is one of the most anticipated upcoming horror games. Currently, there is no official release date outside of it coming out this year, but hopefully more information about when it will launch will surface during Gamescom.

The Outlast Trials: Everything We Know
2022 has kept a lid on quite the number of hidden gems—The Outlast Trials being just one of them. And yet, our intrigue surrounding Red Barrels’ third survival horror game remains just as high. And now, after the release of its open beta, that intrigue has only flourished into a hunger—a desperation, even, to see all that there is to see in the full release.
There’s a problem, though, as it appears Red Barrels isn’t quite ready to serve up the its hat trick.
And until the team eventually decides to unravel the game in its entirety, we’re unfortunately left with only a somewhat incomplete portrait. But what do we know about it? Well, here’s everything we’ve scraped together so far, and everything you should know about before punching in that pre-order.
What Is The Outlast Trials?
The Outlast Trials is an upcoming survival horror game for PC and PlayStation. Unlike its two previous chapters, the next leg of the journey will be predominantly multiplayer-based, and will once again be developed by Red Barrels, a Canadian studio that lit the fuse for the series back in 2013.
While Outlast and Outlast II prioritized single-player campaigns with various scavenging and stealth elements, The Outlast Trials will instead opt for a team-based survival experience, in which up to four players must complete a variety of death defying tasks in order to progress further into an underground labyrinth that facilitates a deeply disturbing brainwashing technique.
Story
The Outlast Trials serves as a prequel to the first two entries, but has no definitive connection to either tale set around Mount Massive Asylum, or the Coconino County. Instead, players are invited to a horrifying facility that’s fostered by Murkoff Corporation, a company that deals in advanced brainwashing and mind control. To test the boundaries of such controversial methods, volunteers must embark on terrifying journeys through a monster-infested labyrinth.
Set during the Cold War, The Outlast Trials will bring volunteers from all walks of life to engage in its sinister games, all of which will bring unique and time-sensitive trials and tribulations. As for what lurks beyond the other side is anybody’s guess. But if we’re going by Red Barrels’ questionable history, then it’s sure to be a little twisted. At this point, though, we almost welcome it.
Gameplay
The open beta of The Outlast Trials indicated that, unlike the first two games, the experience will be more team-based.
This isn’t to say that players can’t run it solo, though, as Red Barrels confirmed prior to the open beta. It will, however, be nothing quite like the first two games, and will feature far more interactive features that accommodate a much wider audience. An example here would be skill trees, class perks, and customizable characters, all of which will be playing key parts.
Of course, the fight or flight mechanics are still alive and kicking, as are the deadly monsters and atmospheric settings. Like before, players will have to foster a stealthy approach if they are to complete various tasks and sink deeper into the rabbit hole, so to speak. The only major difference here is that, well, it isn’t up to the one of you to garner results.
Development
Red Barrels first brought The Outlast Trials to the table back in 2019, a time during which the developer teased the idea of making Outlast 3. Instead of following up with the third game, though, the team went on to experiment with a new spin-off idea, which eventually went on to lay the foundations for The Outlast Trials.
Initially coined as a “TV series,” Red Barrels eventually made way for what would become a four-player survival horror game. And now, The Outlast Trials stands in line as one of Red Barrels’ original concepts, and one that will learn to find ground in the multiplayer community. At present, only 40 people are working on the project. According to Red Barrels, The Outlast Trials will be releasing at some point in 2022. Unfortunately, though, a concrete date hasn’t been provided.

Since its initial announcement, Red Barrels has published three trailers for The Outlast Trials: the teaser trailer; the gameplay trailer; and the open beta trailer, which was served up at Gamescom 2022. You can check out the latest trailer above, which sheds light on some of the gameplay that players can expect to see once the game goes live later this year.
Release Date, Platforms & Editions
The Outlast Trials is still set to release at some point later this year, though Red Barrels has yet to confirm an official date for it. On launch, the game will be exclusive to PC, and will come to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 “in the future.” There hasn’t been any word on whether or not it will come to Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S just yet, but there’s definitely a chance that it will, given the series’ history of being cross-platform and available on Xbox Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate.

The current heating season in Ukraine will not be easy. Because of the war, Russian gas blackmail and, as a result, the shortage and high cost of energy.
The simplest thing that consumers can do in such a situation is to take care of the insulation of their own homes. And also — about additional sources of heating.
Kosatka.Media has collected practical advice from energy industry experts on how to insulate your home and survive a difficult winter under martial law.
Choose new or old heating
Gennady Ryabtsev, director of special projects at the Scientific and Technical Center «Psyche», an energy expert, compiled a list of tips for those who «finally ate their financial pillow.» They will be useful for residents of apartment buildings in cities with district heating.
First of all, don’t give up your current energy and heat supply, the expert advises.
Your task is not to change the awl for soap, but to provide yourself with a backup source of energy and reduce its loss to the environment.
The easiest choice is the installation of electric convectors. It is better to give preference to devices that use forced rather than free convection. Therefore, if there is not enough money for a «fancy» convector, feel free to buy a cheap fan heater even with an open-type heating element («open spiral»).
“While some ‘experts’ say it ‘burns oxygen’, this effect is greatly exaggerated (especially if the room is ventilated daily). If you only have a Soviet oil convector, turn on at least a small fan behind it. This will significantly reduce the duration of heating the air in the room where it is installed”, — the expert noted.

How to reduce energy losses in your home
Make sure there are no gaps in the window frames.
If they are, then, depending on the funds available to you, either install modern double-glazed windows, or treat the glass around the perimeter with silicone sealant, put a sealant into the frames.
Check that there are no gaps in the window sill fixing points. If there are, fill them with foam.
If you have modern double-glazed windows, check how tightly the windows close (can you hear the «street» when the window is closed). If not, contact the company you installed — they know better than you what and where to tighten).
Hang blinds or thicker curtains on the windows (which, however, must not cover the radiators). They need to be opened during the day and tightly closed at night.
Apply heat-saving film to the window glass.
Install a heat reflective screen on the walls behind the steam heating radiators = radiators. A more economical option is a reflector made of aluminum foil and a sheet of packing cardboard.
Check that there are no gaps between the door canvas and the door frames.
If available, stick a seal around the perimeter of the door frames.
Even if you don’t like carpets, put them on the floor at least in rooms where you will spend more time in winter. This advice is most useful for apartments located on the ground floor of the house.
If you have a wall that freezes in the winter, insulate it with styrofoam sheets covered with drywall, cork wall tiles or cork wallpaper. Do not forget to carefully seal all seams and joints.
If possible, install a double door at the entrance to the apartment, if not, cover it with dermantine, isolating the door leaf with isolon, glass wool, foam rubber.
What to check on landings and entrances
Check the presence of glass in all windows, replace broken glass. If glass replacement is temporarily unavailable, cover the windows with plywood.
Seal the perimeter glass with silicone sealant, insert foam strips or other sealant into the frames.
Install a thermal vestibule at the entrance (double door).
If there is a gap under the door, you should make a threshold and move the doorway lower.
Stick the seal around the perimeter of the basement door and attic hatches.
Renew a layer of expanded clay backfill or other insulation in the attic.
Check if there is thermal insulation of pipes, fittings, boiler in the house heating unit. It is not necessary to isolate each tap — you can close the entire assembly with a “bag”. The most economical option for insulating the boiler is old blankets.
Provide external wall insulation. It is through them that up to 60% of all useful heat is lost.
“Unfortunately, wall insulation gives the expected effect only if the insulation is not done pointwise (for a separate apartment), but from the first to the last floor. And that’s why. Along the floor slabs, where the insulating layer ends, the dew point temperature drops sharply. This leads to condensation of moisture and the appearance of mold at the junction of the wall with the ceiling and floor, not only in the insulated apartment, but also in neighboring ones.
Another problem is the wetting of the upper cut of the insulating layer”, — the expert explained.
How to install an electric heater without damaging the wiring
The easiest way to raise the temperature in an apartment building is to turn on the electric heater. But a very important issue is the capacity of our electrical wiring when connecting electric heaters.
Aleksey Zhuk, executive regional director of Solars Re-Energy Group, an experienced electrical and energy engineer, told about the nuances of .
“Of course, these tips will work if there is power supply from substations on the “high” side, that is, the entire power grid from generation to consumer operates “within the limits”. If not, you will be powerless to do anything. No storage / storage / battery / UPS will warm you. And you should know this so that there are no unpleasant surprises. But! There is always a chance and it should be used”, – said the expert.
Continue step by step.
1. Find a smart electrician.
With it, be sure to find the main switch cabinet of your house — GRSH. This is the first point in your home where the power cable from the substation comes in.
In the main switchboard, inspect the ground loop, all electrical connections and wires, tires, cables. Pay attention to burning and scorched places. If necessary, tighten all connections, replace all burnt elements. Remove cobwebs and dust, because they are the cause of short circuits.
Also, where possible, be sure to replace all wires with larger gauge wires to increase the capacity of the jumpers. Pay special attention to the condition of the protection devices — the same machines.
If there are still «Soviet» machines — replace them with modern ones and do not spare money for high-quality machines.
The main thing when replacing breakers is not to exceed the rated current of the breaker in relation to the throughput of wires and cables.
Pay attention! If the house has more than 3 entrances, there may be more than one GRSH. So look for everything.
2. Do the same with the apartment panels and junction boxes in the vestibules and stairwells. From these shields and boxes, wires to sockets and switches are laid in your apartments.
Unless you’ve done repairs or changed wiring, make sure you bring a separate cable into your apartment that’s large enough to connect all your heaters.
“Pay attention! All these cables must be connected after the meter! Therefore, be sure to pay attention to which wires go from the power riser to the meter. Very often, when doing repairs, people do not pay attention to it. However, even if you have new wiring in your apartment, modern high-quality machines are installed, but old wires go to the meter — “that’s it, there will be no kin, the electricity will end” , — the specialist explained.
As for the problem when everyone turns on the heaters in the apartments at the same time.
Will the main power supply withstand — that is, the «riser», or the same cables going from the main switchboard to the apartment shields and junction boxes?
“If there is no way to replace them, then we hope that now there are fewer people and the workload will be lower. Otherwise, see above about the cinema, that is, the automation should work and turn off the power to prevent a fire, ” — Beetle noted.
3. Check the socket in the apartment.
If at least something reminds of sparking, namely, there are burning places, replace the socket, tighten the contacts.
“And remember, 90 percent of the sockets in our apartments are rated for 16 amps, which equals 3.52 kW of power in normal mode. Do not plug in any more as a fire is inevitable. Less is better”, – the expert noted.
4. Potbelly stoves, buleryans and other wood-burning stoves.
Yes, you may need them. But only where possible, for reasons of fire safety.
And not in apartments, stressed Zhuk.
For example, in 16-storey buildings there are so-called «wheelchair» rooms. Free them from trash, close up windows, think over ventilation and a chimney, organize a place for installing a stove with fire fighting equipment. Yes, it will be a heating point for the residents of the house.
But be aware of the fire hazard! Everything must be done in accordance with the rules and regulations for safe operation. Consult with the specialists of the State Emergency Service, appoint a responsible and duty officer.
Complete apocalypse: what to take care of
Andrei Andrushevich, Senior Political Analyst, Resource and Analytical Center «Society and the Environment», selected recommendations for those living in an apartment in case of a complete apocalypse (no gas, no electricity, no heating ).
1) A little dry alcohol (packs of 10). It is inexpensive, but you can boil water or cook something for several days right on the burner of a gas stove.
The issue price is somewhere around 300-400 UAH.
2) A large flashlight with a powerful battery: also inexpensive, but it will be light in the evenings to eat or go to the toilet, in case of system power outages (or inclusions) for several hours a day, it can be charged. A solar battery would be appropriate for him (there are lanterns immediately with such sold). You can also charge your phone from it. The issue price is about 800 UAH.
3) Portable gas stove + cylinders for it. The choice is great, you can safely cook food twice a day on one cylinder. The issue price is 1000 UAH (stove) and 110 UAH (one can).
4) Biofireplace.
“This is currently the only solution I see for providing heating (heating) for one room in the apartment. Does not need a chimney. Fuel is ethanol. The issue price is from UAH 10,000”, – Andrushevich specified.
5) Water storage tank, incl. technical (drain the toilet, for example). A few buckets is good. Tank and pump are good too.

6) An electric stove in addition to a gas stove. There will be no gas — you can cook to eat. Issue price — up to 1000 UAH.
7) electric heater, not very powerful. It will be required if the central heating is in the “so that the pipes do not freeze” mode in order to warm up the apartment / room.
