Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer will be free to play for a limited time starting this week. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the latest entry in the long-running franchise, and like usual, it features a single-player campaign, co-op modes, and the traditional Call of Duty multiplayer experience.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer is the main selling point for many fans of the franchise. Unsurprisingly, Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer will be a huge focus of the game’s updates moving forward, with Activision and Infinity Ward looking to add new maps, modes, and more to the experience. The Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 Reloaded update is the latest major update for the game, and to mark the occasion, multiplayer is being made free to play for a limited time.

As confirmed by Activision, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer will be free to play from December 15 to December 19. The catch, however, is that free players will not have access to the full suite of maps and game modes. Three maps will be the focus of this free access: Shipment, Farm 18, and El Asilo. The four modes that will be available are Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Hardpoint. Free players will have access to both first-person and third-person playlists.

While Farm 18 and El Asilo have been available in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer since the game’s launch in October, Shipment is a new addition that’s been added as part of the Season 1 Reloaded update.
Shipment is a fan favorite Call of Duty map that has regularly appeared in the franchise since its debut in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Notable for its extremely small size compared to other multiplayer maps, Shipment has been a go-to map for Call of Duty players looking to boost their stats or level up their guns.
Of course, the aim of this Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer free access is to convince those who have yet to buy the latest game in the series to take the plunge, but those that are still unconvinced should note that free CoD experiences will still be readily available after December 19. The Call of Duty: Warzone 2 battle royale, while connected to Modern Warfare 2, is completely free to play, so gamers can still get their CoD fix from playing that.

An upcoming Modern Warfare 2 free access period will allow Call of Duty fans to test out the franchise’s latest offering. Modern Warfare 2 became the fastest-selling Call of Duty game of all time, and now more players will get a chance to join the action thanks to a free trial.
Activision will periodically hand out free access trials to try and entice new players to experience the latest Call of Duty. The free access period for Modern Warfare 2 will allow players to check out the multiplayer mode with Season 1 Reloaded content in the spotlight.
Here’s everything you need to know about the free access period for Modern Warfare 2.
When is the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer free trial?
The first ever Modern Warfare 2 free access period will occur from December 15 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM GMT to December 19 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM GMT.
This will give Call of Duty fans five days to test out Modern Warfare 2 for free. Multiplayer free access for Modern Warfare 2 will likely come and go throughout its seasons, so we’ll let you know when to expect the next one.

To play Modern Warfare 2 for free during the free access period, you need to find the game in your platform’s store.
Here’s how to download Modern Warfare 2 free access:
- Go to your respective console’s store – PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, etc
- Search for “Modern Warfare 2 Free Access” on console or look for the “Play Free” button on PC.
- A free trial for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 should be available to download
- Download it, and launch the game to play
Modern Warfare 2 free access content: Shipment, modes & more
Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer free access will restrict players to three maps: Shipment, Farm 18, and El Asilo. You’ll find the playlist under MP Trial Mosh Pit.
Luckily, players will be able to test out the new and improved version of Shipment that arrived with the Season 1 Reloaded update.
Furthermore, Farm 18 is a fan favorite that is sure to please players.
In terms of game modes, you can jump into Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Hardpoint. This offers a diverse selection of objective-based modes and kill races.
You’ll be able to experience the above modes in the standard first-person perspective, or the new third-person mode that returned to Modern Warfare 2.

Activision has announced a weekend of free access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II . The shooter was released on October 27 and for the first time since its release will allow players to experience the multiplayer part without having to buy the game.

The trial period starts today, December 15, , and ends on Monday, December 19, . For five days, PlayStation, Xbox and PC users will be able to experience Modern Warfare II multiplayer, but with some restrictions.
During the free weekend, only four modes will be available to choose from ( Team Deathmatch , Hardpoint , Domination and Kill Confirmed) with the ability to play in 1st or 3rd person, as well as three maps, including starting Farm 18 and El Asilo and the new Shipment that was released earlier this week as part of the first season of Reloaded .
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on Steam and Battle.net.
