Roll your dice and race to get the most stars (and sabotage your opponents) on 5 game boards. Each board is filled with treats and tricks—plant flowers (and Piranha Plants) on the delectable Peach’s Birthday Cake board or go intergalactic on the Space Land board. With minigames, star-stealing ghosts, and the troublemaking Bowser, you can turn the tables on your friends and family in an instant. Want to play with far-off friends and family? All modes can be played online*!

Take on 100 classic minigames fit for the whole family

Try your hand at a superstar collection of minigames from throughout the Mario Party™ series. Whether you are sharpening your skills solo or challenging your family at game night, there is nothing quite like being the last one standing in Booksquirm or surviving a penguin stampede in Pushy Penguins. All minigames are played with button controls, so you can stick to the Joy-Con™ controller or bust out the Nintendo Switch™ Pro Controller or a Nintendo Switch Lite system.

Party with superstars near or far

Bring the party anytime, anywhere with same-system**, local wireless**, or online* play. Use stickers to praise or pester fellow players as you race across the board collecting stars. All modes support online multiplayer, so you can hop in with friends for a few minigames or a marathon 30-turn match. Victory is just as sweet (and stealing stars is just as satisfying) from anywhere across the globe.

Mario Party Superstars — What We Know So Far

By Victoria F/Updated: Jan. 24, 2022 12:43 pm EST

If you love «Mario Party,» you’ll be hyped to learn that there’s a brand new addition to the series coming very soon. «Mario Party Superstars» is on its way, and it’s got a lot to offer both newcomers and longtime fans of the franchise.

Nostalgic throwback games are hot these days. 90s kids are excited to play as their favorite cartoon characters in «Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl,» while The Legend of Zelda fans have greatly enjoyed the upgrades in 2021’s «Skyward Sword HD.» Clearly, the time is right for «Mario Party Superstars,» since fans are reveling in the fun of their old-school favorites.

To say that «Mario Party» fans are passionate would be an understatement. In fact, previous games have games have been so enthralling that they’ve even sent players to the hospital with thumb injuries. Basically, you can still get excited about the new game in the series, but maybe just watch those thumbs. Here’s everything you need to know about «Mario Party Superstars.»

When is the release date for Mario Party Superstars?

You won’t have to wait in suspense for the «Mario Party Superstars» release date, since it was shared right away in the announcement trailer. The highly anticipated party game will be available on Oct. 29, 2021. This means that Mario fans also won’t have to wait long to get their hands on the game.

Although the wait shouldn’t be too painful, fans may need something to help pass that little bit of time. Luckily, there are a ton of excellent Mario games available on the Nintendo Switch, including the previous game in the «Party» series, «Super Mario Party.» This might be the perfect time to revisit that title, especially since this new game shares a lot of similarities with its predecessors.

Preorders for «Mario Party Superstars» are open now, so if you’ve got $59.99 ready to go, you can go ahead and snag your copy of the game.

Is there a trailer for Mario Party Superstars?

The announcement trailer for «Mario Party Superstars» that dropped on June 15, 2021 at E3 is pretty straightforward. The 81-second first look at the upcoming title features a ton of fun gameplay footage, complete with a voiceover sharing details about what you can expect in the game.

The trailer opens with an announcement that this game will be «a blast from parties past, and you’re invited.» Next, fans see Mario, Peach, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi rolling dice and running around a board. The new game is described «a superstar collection of ‘Mario Party’ boards and mini-games» that will feature «five classic boards from the Nintendo 64 era, including Peach’s Birthday Cake and Spaceland.» Both iconic boards mentioned are shown, each appearing similar to the original versions with enhanced visuals.

More boards, characters, and shenanigans are shown off as additional game features are described. «Mario Party Superstars» is promised to include «hilarious, over-the-top mini-games, all of which support button controls.» Players will be able to use whatever controllers work best for them to enjoy «100 mini-games from the ‘Mario Party’ series catalogue.» The trailer goes on to announce that online play will be available from the start, including the opportunity for solo players to be matched randomly with players worldwide, in addition to the ability to save mid-game and emote with stickers.

All in all, the trailer packed in a ton of details in a fairly short amount of time. And believe it or not, there’s more.

What will Mario Party Superstars’ gameplay be like?

In addition to the announcement trailer, a 43-minute «Nintendo Treehouse» feature also dropped at E3, which gave fans a further look at gameplay. If you’ve played any of the «Mario Party» games in the past, things should look pretty familiar in «Mario Party Superstars.»

Nintendo’s official «Mario Party Superstars» listing has confirmed that multiplayer options will include online play, local wireless, and multiple players on the same system. This is a big deal, since it’s something prior «Mario Party» games haven’t been able to offer at launch. Though «Super Mario Party» came out over two years ago, the latest game in the franchise only received online capabilities in April 2021, which many players felt was too little, too late.

In «Mario Party Superstars,» collecting continues to be the name of the game. Coins can be used to collect stars, which are the ultimate in-game currency used to unlock new features and (of course) bragging rights.

There you have it! Now that you’re all caught up on the details of this exciting and nostalgic Mario title, you’ll probably want to mark your calendar for the release of «Mario Party Superstars» on Oct. 29, 2021.
