Muster up all of your patience if you want to earn a huge stockpile of Mileage Points. But the only way to do so is to have already completed 5 of the Solo Cruise levels. First, select the «Solo Cruise». Then pick the Bowser’s Enchanted Inferno stage, the last level. You’ll need to get a Star and somehow avoid all of Bowser’s traps on the board and reach the central island, which is your starting point. There, you will challenge Bowser in a great showdown. If you can defeat his task, you will earn around 700 or more Mileage Points at the end, not only for defeating your rival but big bad Bowser, too! However, this takes quite a while, for Bowser may sink the island with the Star into boiling laza during the game. Plus you have to worry about your opponent getting the Star first. If they do, another Star will appear somewhere else. It’s up to you to get it and race to the island before your opponent does. If your rival beats you to it, don’t worry: he’ll probably lose, since he’s on the «Weak» setting. You’ll have as many chances as you need before you use up all of the turns to overthrow Bowser, but if the turns are up, all the hours of clawing your way up will have been wasted. Watch out for that and good luck!
Review of Mario Party Superstars — Party in the style of the nineties
Video game fans are very persistent people. If they want something, they will let you know. And, believe it or not, the Mario Party series has a lot of fans. As a rule, these are people who grew up during the Nintendo 64, and for whom there is nothing dearer than the angular polygons of the 64-bit era. For this reason, we still want to return to the frankly outdated Mario Kart 64 and fondly remember the original Mario Party. Although scary, they had a magic that dozens of sequels could not convey. And finally, what everyone seemed to be asking for happened: a de facto remake of those very first games authored by Hudson Soft. But what came of it?
Everyone has their favorite Mario Party game — and least favorite. Fans of this seemingly very casual series are actually surprisingly aggressive, and they can be understood: each new part should (for some reason) take them back to childhood, when everything was better and clearer. But NDcube (the masters of the genre who gave us, for example, the excellent Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics) set itself such a task, for which each new part is a chance to squeeze the maximum out of the console and show all its features. Mario Party 8 used motion control, and Mario Party 10 (which everyone disliked for nothing) allowed us to get the most out of the gamepad with a screen. But these gimmicks have long become boring to many — people asked to return to the roots, and this is exactly what happened with the release of Mario Party Superstars. No more experiments.
Whether you like this move or not, everyone decides for himself. I don’t like to delve too much into history, but in this case, democracy won. Nintendo did exactly what everyone asked of it — rewound twenty years and returned everything as it was, along the way canceling dozens of changes that have occurred in recent years. And if the old ones are happy, the relatively new players will be surprised. There are no more unique dice for each character — or support heroes. Many mechanics that complicated the very essence of the game have disappeared. In every sense, Mario Party Superstars is a step backwards. But what a regression is for someone, for others it is a long-awaited nirvana.

As ever, only four players can play — no more, no less. Here I miss Mario Party 10, which allowed you to get rid of the obsessive AI, and play together. This saved time and nerves.
As a person who managed to fall in love with the last parts, even with an element of «cars» (to admit this in the company of Old Believers is life-threatening), I was skeptical about the idea of a remake of the first three parts, but this does not mean that I was not interested. And really, why not bring classic whiteboards into the world of HD?
Mario Party Superstars offers a choice of five original boards from the first three parts. Each of them is almost unrecognizable thanks to a graphical upgrade, and it’s damn nice to look at them. I rarely praise Switch for graphics, but when it comes to exclusives like this, big H studios always manage to impress. And in this sense, the novelty is one of the most beautiful releases on the platform, with bright and saturated colors and a lot of little things.
0012
Will only five planks be enough? I would say with difficulty. Yes, this is a standard set, but I hope that Mario Party Superstars will receive better support after the release than Super Mario Party, which has not received a single sensible update.
As for the gameplay, it is as simple and concise as possible. The developers have either removed all the unpopular innovations of recent years, or made them disabled. Don’t like bonus stars after playing? Disable them. Do you want to limit the time of the game so that one session does not take you an hour and a half? Please — set the required number of moves. You can even select minigames from the N64 or GameCube era only, or filter them by type. Considering how rarely Nintendo gives us something to customize, this variety of settings can not but rejoice.
If you don’t know what Mario Party is at all, then everything is very simple: all four players (if there are fewer of you, then AI will play) have exactly one goal — to get as many stars as possible. The stars hide in different places on the board, and as soon as someone gets to one of them, the star moves to another place. After each turn, players take part in mini-games that allow them to win coins, which, in turn, can be spent on all sorts of bonuses. Some help you, and some harm others. No wonder Mario Party is called «the main test of friendship.»

You can play with AI, but to be honest, sometimes even at the average difficulty level it is stupid. I have seen many times how my opponent seemed to purposely deprive himself of the chance to come out on top and generally behave like an idiot. I don’t remember this behavior in the previous part.
As I mentioned, everything has become easier. If in Super Mario Party each character (there are only ten of them, including Birdo, who seemed to disappear for good after the ninth part) had unique dice, then in Mario Party Superstars everything is on an equal footing.
The board is important, but not in the same way as mini-games. This time, the developers have tried to bring back all the most popular games over the past 20+ years and collect a sort of collection of the best hits. This is not their first such attempt — at one time, Mario Party: The Top 100 came out on the 3DS with a similar idea.
Everyone has their favourites, but overall these are some really great mini-games. Almost. Some inclusions still raise questions. For example, I was not at all happy to see the return of mini-games, where you have to twist the analog stick with all your might to win. Back in the days of the N64, such tests destroyed not only gamepads, but also hands (those who remember those controllers understand everything). Now that gamepads have become even more fragile and prone to drifting, such games do raise serious concerns that not only friendship, but also technology will not survive Mario Party.

Among the innovations are stickers that can be used during the game. Stickers have become another tool for subtle trolling of losing friends.
Despite the retro essence, Mario Party Superstars does something better than all analogues. This is a multiplayer online game. Previously, it was either impossible at all, or almost did not work, but now? Everything is great. Opponents can be found easily and quickly, and if the player leaves for some reason, the AI replaces him for a while. In the past, the disappearance of a player has doomed everyone else!
Mario Party Superstars is something to be praised for. The visuals are beautiful, the music, the characters, all this sets the mood for the holiday. And thanks to the full localization, it is truly accessible to anyone. But if the previous parts tried to please everyone, now the veterans will be the most joyful of all. Many others will rightly wonder where many of the elements that they liked before have gone.
Verdict
Mario Party Superstars is a gift for those who miss the first parts of the cult series. The trouble is that in the post-Soviet space only a few people saw the N64 live, so no one has any nostalgia as such. But even so, this is a great collection of mini-games for the whole company with excellent graphics, accessible gameplay and full localization.

Opinions
Super Mario Party is a set of many mini-games. There is a dance competition, a group boat ride, a huge board game, volleyball, football, baseball, bombington (in which you need to throw bombs at each other), a meat cooking simulator, and dozens of other games that are great for a fun evening with friends, younger brothers or sisters. You can even try to play with your parents if they are completely bored.
Replayability depends solely on your desire and passion. For example, quite unexpectedly for myself, I was stuck until six in the morning playing baseball. I don’t know how it happened, but this time flew by for me unnoticed: only a dead console battery hinted that it was time to go to bed. The games in the built-in board game can last an hour or two. You only need to choose the number of moves, and then you head off into a process close to the classic «Monopoly». The bottom line is that you need to get more stars than the rest. There are fields of luck that give bonuses and, on the contrary, fields of incredible bad luck, which deprive you of coins in favor of other players. Each round of turns ends with a general mini-game in which you can earn additional bonuses. For example, «mushrooms» with personal bonuses fall out, for example, increasing the duration of your move by three units. The game bonus may also lie in the fact that its use takes away a certain number of units from the player’s moves all the time, as a result, the latter moves more slowly. You can buy attributes during the game itself, moving yourself closer to the next star, which is important for victory. The main thing you need is a company of two to four people. This is where Super Mario Party starts to play with all the colors, and the room is filled with friendly screams.
Surprisingly, in the era of interactivity, social networks and instant messengers, the simple socialization scheme works, creating a wonderful symbiosis with modern technologies. However, playing Super Mario Party alone is no less interesting. The artificial intelligence does a great job and entertains the player, but the atmosphere of the party is not fully conveyed. When playing with a friend, you get twice as much fun from the game, not to mention a big company.
Other large group games include co-op rafting with different paths and mini-games. Here you need to make active movements with joy-cons, depicting a paddle. About once every few minutes you need to choose where to swim at the fork, and you always have a global map of a large and stepped river in front of you. You will return here often.
But more often than not, the whole gameplay will be reduced to session and fun mini-games. For a quick count, there are more than 80 of them. Some of them, apparently, migrated from other parts of Super Mario Party, some, of course, are new. There are a lot of games, and some of them sincerely amaze with the ingenuity of the authors. They can be played both alone and in a company. Sometimes the teams are divided in a very funny way, and the composition of the participants of one team becomes three times more than in the other. It is these games that are an outlet for that very one person, because he is actually engaged in some kind of mockery of the other three.
Super Mario Party is definitely made for fun and friendly excitement. It is not childish at all, it quickly captivates and greatly addicts if your company is set to have fun. There is no entry threshold as such: all mini-games are available almost immediately or are easily opened with a collective game. Super Mario Party is huge in terms of replay value and variety. It will bring you pleasure for a long time and will definitely recoup the money spent on it in full and even more.
