One Piece 1049: Luffy Triumphs Over Kaido

By
Rei Penber

Luffy and Kaido’s battle has been raging on for months, but it finally looks like the Straw Hat captain has put an end to the powerful Yonko’s reign.

One Piece’s last chapter saw the war of the Wano Country arc edge closer to its end as Luffy vs Kaido’s battle raged near the skies of the Flower Capital. As expected, with the majority of the fights on Onigashima having wrapped up, Luffy versus Kaido was the biggest spectacle for the fans and with both having pulled out their ultimate techniques, it was only a matter of time before the fighting wrapped up.

Along with the fight, the previous chapter also focused on Orochi as he was finally struck down by Denjiro. With that, The biggest oppressor of Wano finally met his end while Kaido, the man who backed him, was close to falling to Luffy. One Piece 1049 marked a spectacular conclusion to the fight between Luffy and Kaido as the fist carrying the weight of 20 years finally landed and struck the Yonko into oblivion. At the same time, the war of Onigashima looks to have been officially concluded, with the Fire Festival wrapping up at the same time.

The End of Luffy Vs. Kaido

Luffy’s fight against Kaido has been raging on for quite a while now. Having begun in chapter 1000 of One Piece, the two have fought quite a long and dragged-out battle where Luffy has found himself on the losing end two times. After awakening the power of advanced Conqueror’s Haki and later awakening his devil’s fruit, Luffy was finally able to put up a fight against Yonko Kaido and match him in combat. At a certain point, it was established by Oda carefully that the fight was more than just a fight for Wano. It is also a fight that would bring the return of Joy boy to the One Piece world – something that the world has waited 800 years for.

After awakening his Devil Fruit, Luffy was able to tap into the powers of Gear 5th And that’s when the beginning of the end for Kaido finally kick-started. One Piece 1049 marks the conclusion to Kaido’s story in a brilliant manner, although it might seem anticlimactic to some. For Kaido, waiting for the man who would defeat him eventually was the ultimate goal. Kaido once thought of Oden as the man who would eventually defeat him, however having his battle ruined, he couldn’t help but wait for the man who Oden wanted to welcome into Wano, that is, Joyboy.

Kaido’s wishes were finally granted in the last chapter as Luffy, who is the next Joy Boy, finally delivered a mighty punch to him. It’s quite interesting to know that before Luffy delivered his punch, Kaido asked him about what kind of world he wanted to create. Interestingly, this could very well tie into Luffy’s dream that he shares with Roger and according to him, his dream is to create a world where his friends would never starve and eat as much as they want. With that, Luffy struck a powerful blow to Kaido, completely knocking him out and sending him crashing into the ground outside the Flower Capital, and putting an end to the fight at the same time.

Kaido’s Flashback

Quite a big portion of One Piece 1049 was Kaido’s flashback. Fans have been waiting for the flashback for quite a while now and it is safe to say that while the flashback delivered, it didn’t quite live up to the expectations as it was quite short. Nonetheless, whatever it is that the fans did get was quite interesting and added a lot of depth to Kaido’s character. The flashback started with Kaido at 10 years of age in his home country called Vodka Kingdom. By the looks of it, Kaido was a mercenary for his country and fought wars in order for them to keep being a relevant nation in the world and pay the heavenly tribute. Eventually, when he grew too strong, the king of the country sold him to the Marines. This also ties to Kaido’s introduction in chapter 795 where the narrator stated that Kaido was captured by his enemies 18 times. Chapter 1049 revealed that Kaido got captured quite a few times on purpose so that he could eat and also destroy.

The chapter also tied Kaido’s time with the Rocks to the story and show the fans how Kaido eventually vanished after the God Valley Incident. Having then been reached out by Higurashi 10 years later, Kaido eventually moved to Wano Country, which is where he had been ruling with tyranny ever since. For Kaido, creating a world of violence was the only thing that mattered. At the same time, he strongly believed that, at one point, he could have been Joy Boy, however, at some point he started believing that Joy Boy would be the man who would eventually be able to defeat him.

Although Kaido has been said to have lost seven times in his life, this chapter heavily alluded to the fact that he has, in fact, never lost a serious battle before. This implies that when Kaido did lose he was quite possibly a child and, in his prime, Kaido never lost any battle other than against Luffy. As such, the only reason for him to stay in Wano Country was to welcome Joy Boy and to get defeated by him. By the looks of it, Kaido finally met his heart’s desire as Luffy’s Bajrang Gun crashed into him with tremendous force.

The End Of The Fire Festival

As expected, the Fire Festival finally wrapped up in the Flower Capital, as evident from the fact that all the Sky Boats finally flew up and both Orochi and Kaido finally fell. At the same time, Onigashima landed safely, thanks to Momonosuke’s Devil Fruit power which let him create Flame Clouds. At the end of the chapter, both Momonosuke and Luffy were seen passing out as they fell right outside the Capital. With that, the war of Wano Country finally came to a conclusion. As for the Government forces that are outside Wano country, the remaining member of CP0 made sure to witness Kaido’s fall and made his escape at the same time. It is possible that the Government will make their move on Wano to seize it, however, the threat of Zunesha still stands in their path.

All things considered, One Piece chapter 1049 was quite a spectacle and wrapped things up in a brilliant fashion for both Kaido and the new Joy boy, Luffy. With that, the story will now head towards the aftermath of the Wano Country arc. Fans will now see the samurai regrouping and taking care of the injured. At the same time, the arC will now tackle the biggest revelations related to the Poneglyphs of Wano and, perhaps, even the One Piece itself. As expected, these are exciting times for One Piece fans as they could soon get some information on Laugh Tale and the great treasure of Gol D. Roger as well.

The Fate Of Kaido & Big Mom, Explained

By
Rei Penber

Both Kaido and Big Mom suffered devastating defeats during the Wano Country Arc. Is this the end for these legendary pirates?

One Piece’s Wano Country arc recently saw the conclusion of two of its biggest fights concerning the Four Emperors of the Sea, Big Mom and Kaido. While at one point, it seemed impossible for the fans to imagine two of the Four Emperors fall, the end of the Onigashima Raid saw to it that both went down and eventually, paved the way for the victory of the pirate alliance over the Yonko. Along with the Yonko, the war also saw the fall of Kaido’s Beasts Pirates and announced Luffy’s victory against the Yonko to the world as well.

RELATED: One Piece: Is Kaido Getting Back Up To Fight Luffy?

Throughout the arc, Oda set the precedent for the generation of the old and brittle to crumble to the new and rising powers. Immediately after, fans saw Law and Kid team up against Big Mom and take her down. This was soon followed by Luffy awakening his Devil Fruit and taking Kaido down as well. While the fall of both Yonko felt inevitable towards the end, Oda could have gone as far as killing the two off, which is incredibly shocking, given that most villains haven’t died in the story. However, are Kaido and Big Mom truly dead?

As with every single arc of One Piece, Oda tackled the biggest fight of Wano, this is, Luffy’s clash against Kaido, at the very end, which meant Big Mom was set up to fall first. In her fight against two of the Worst Generation members in Trafalgar law and Eustass Kid, Big Mom was seen to be the overwhelming force for the majority of the fight. However, as soon as the two awakened their devil fruit powers, the tide of the battle started to shift. Thanks to Trafalgar Law’s Ope Ope no Mi powers, Big Mom took quite a ton of internal damage and even broke her bones. What’s more, Eustass Kid’s Jiki Jiki no Mi attacks also caused significant damage to her due to the immense crushing pressure and pushed her on the back foot. Eventually, Law and Kid combined their forces and sent Big Mom crashing down from Onigashima several miles under Wano’s surface. Law’s Puncture Wille created a massive hole in the ground and Kid’s Damned Punk sent her to the bottom of hell.

Soon after, Oda shifted his focus towards Luffy’s fight against Kaido, which was the grand finale of the arc. Although Luffy lost to Kaido once more due to interference from CP0 members, he came back from the dead with the newly awakened powers of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Awakening granted him access to Gear Fifth and saw to it that Luffy was able to fight Kaido on an equal footing. With his strongest attack, called Bajrang gun, Luffy sent Kaido crashing from Onigashima into the underground of Wano. Kaido was completely knocked out by the ferocity of Luffy’s strike and ended up in the same place as Yonko Big Mom. Towards the end of the fight, both Kaido and Big Mom were seen having landed in a pool of magma under the Wano Country. From their silhouettes, it appears as if Oda put the curtains on two of the most accomplished characters in the entirety of the story and potentially even killed them.

As One Piece Chapter 1050 announced Luffy’s victory, fans saw the very volcano in which Big Mom and Kaido landed erupt. The two likely flew out of Wano Country as the eruption was one of a grand scale and even clouded the skies above the country. The fate of both Big Mom and Kaido remains up in the air at the moment, however, given how resilient the two are, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them both actually survive this as well. While nothing can be said for sure, if Oda had to kill Big Mom and Kaido, there wouldn’t have been a need for a massive volcanic eruption to send them out of the country. Both Kaido and Big Mom’s silhouettes also appeared to be rather intact, however, the burns on their body could very well be severe. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Kaido and Big Mom were incapacitated in some way that takes their strength away from them and signals and end of their era for good. However, by how Oda set things up, it seems as if both of them are alive at the moment in some way or form.

At the same time, the death of two of the Four Emperors of the Sea is a massive event. Had the two truly died, Oda would’ve confirmed that to the fans and made their deaths official, rather than leaving their fate up in the air. The biggest example of this is how he handled the fates of Whitebeard and Ace during the Marineford war, where their deaths were immediately confirmed. Just like the two major deaths from the Paramount War, the deaths of Kaido and Big Mom would have massive repercussions on the world of One Piece so for Oda to not announce their deaths would be very unlikely.

It is likelier that Kaido and Big Mom are alive, however, in a very bad physical condition. As for their fate, the World Government ships are right outside of Wano Country and they could very well seize them if they sight their bodies. At the same time, the Big Mom Pirates are also lurking somewhere outside of Wano, which could help give Big Mom an escape route. Regardless, Kaido and Big Mom are likely to be alive for now, unless Oda goes out of his way to confirm their deaths. Whether they’ll end up playing a big role in the future of the series or not remains to be seen but at the moment, the possibility seems unlikely.

Who will Luffy fight after Kaido in One Piece?

Anime Reviews, Articles

Animeshnik

Kaido was the biggest enemy Luffy faced so far, but he has other problems to face in One Piece to become the Pirate King.

Who could be the next enemy, the World Government or the other Yonko?

Now that Luffy has become a Yonko, many enemies will fear his fame and power, because at his current level, few people could stand up to him on equal footing. Since he defeated Kaido in one-on-one combat, Luffy is used to fighting the strongest marines and pirates of modern times.

Your next enemy could be a Marine admiral or a Yonko like Shanks and Blackbeard.

Who would be an opponent strong enough to face Luffy these days?

Luffy’s Remaining Rivals

Along the way, Luffy has made several rivals between the fleet and the pirates, but now that he has become a Yonko, few can compete with him. His fame also makes him a target for those who aspire to the top.

Worst Generation Pirates like Law and Kid might want to challenge him for the imperial throne just like they did with Kaido.

At the same time, Luffy is now one of the biggest threats to the World Government, who fear the power of his awakened Devil Fruit. So the navy could send someone like Koby after him, who would be happy to see Luffy again, or even one of the admirals.

However, other events occur outside of Wano involving Sabo’s friends and Luffy.

So if he finds out that his brother or some of his friends like Vivi or Hancock are in trouble, Luffy can fight the fleet to help them.

Who will be Luffy’s next enemy in One Piece?

As mentioned by Luffy in Punk Hazard, your goal is to defeat all the Yonko, including Shanks and Blackbeard. Possibly the last enemy to challenge Luffy for the title of Pirate King was Blackbeard, so his next enemy at this point after Wano could be Shanks.

At first, Shanks was Luffy’s biggest inspiration when he got his straw hat.

Shanks told Luffy to hand over the hat when they were reunited to prove how much this child would grow in the future.

Now Luffy has reached the same level as Shanks and their meeting is very close.

Speculation indicates that the next arc will be in Elbaf, and there is a strong possibility that Shanks will appear in this arc due to the character’s references to Scandinavian culture.
