The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla King Killer decision you’ll need to make is one of those quests that directly affects the ending of the game, so ensuring you choose the right thing is imperative. This is just one of many crucial decisions in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and is to do with Ubba, Ivarr, Rhodri, and Ceolbert, four key characters in the game. Here’s everything you need to know about the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla King Killer mission.

Read on to find out what decisions to make when it comes to Ivarr and Ubba — and warning, major story spoilers for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla lie ahead. Don’t read on unless you’re ready to make these decisions.

OK, are you still with us? Right, let’s get into things when it comes to the complexities of the King Killer Assassin’s Creed Valhalla storyline.

Firstly, there is no way that you could have saved Ceolbert, he’s just sadly one of the poor casualties of your quest for peace in Sciropescire. However, there are two big decisions that you can have impact on in the King Killer mission. The first is Ivarr’s fate.

Ivarr — Send to Valhalla or Deny Valhalla

After you discover it was actually Ivarr that killed Ceolbert in an attempt to frame King Rhodri and usurp him from the throne, you’ll enter into a boss battle against Ivarr. He’s incredibly nimble, and will regularly counteract your stun attacks, so be prepared to dodge for your life.

However, once you’ve defeated him you’ll be given the following options:

  • Send Ivarr to Valhalla: If you choose to send Ivarr to Valhalla, you’ll place his axe on his chest. He’ll die claiming he can hear the wings of the Valkyrie.
  • Deny Ivarr Valhalla: Denying him Valhalla will see Eivor kicking his axe out of reach, and he’ll die with you telling him he’s Helheim bound.

The choice you make here doesn’t actually matter for the story in terms of consequences, so you can choose what you want to here. Personally, I think Ivarr doesn’t deserve Valhalla after what he did to Ceolbert, and how he killed Rhodri, so I went with denying him.

It’s the decision you make when talking to Ubba later (Ivarr’s brother) that really matters.

Ubba — What to tell Ubba about Ivarr

After Ivarr’s death, you’ll be tasked with heading back to Quatford where you’ll meet up with Ubba and the Bishop. Ubba already knows that Ivarr died, but doesn’t know it’s by your hand. When you tell him, he’ll ask you how Ivarr died. You’ll get the following conversation options:

  • Ivarr died well
  • Ivarr died badly
  • He wanted death

What’s important about this choice is that you shouldn’t lie. If you denied Ivarr Valhalla, you’ll need to choose «Ivarr died badly» or «he wanted death», but if you sent him on his merry way to Valhalla, you can say that he «died well». If you do lie, there will be major consequences later between you and Ubba at your settlement.

How King Killer mission and telling Ubba Ivarr died well, badly or wanted death works in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Eivor is given the option to tell Ubba the truth about Ivarr or not in Chapter 3 of The Book of Dragons, mission King Killer.

Now that the alliance with Oxenefordscire is secure, Eivor travels to Scriropscire to meet with Ivarr and Ceolbert. Ceolbert has been working with Bishop Deorlaf to secure peace with their neighbor King Rhodri of the Britons (War Weary). Unfortunately, the peace talks have not been successful.

Eivor learns that in order for peace to be achieved King Rhodri wants his brother, Gwriad ap Merfyn, to be released. Right after agreeing to the terms, Ivarr makes a rash decision and kills Gwriad. This leads to a fight for survival for Eivor and the rest of the Danes.

With peace talks out of the question, the trio prepares for war. Eivor is tasked with disrupting King Rhodri’s supply lines (The Supply Line) and destroying cargo (Ransaking Wenlocan).

Once these missions are done, Eivor meets with Ceolbert and Ivarr at Wesberie to attack King Rhodri’s forces there (Bloody Path to Peace). This leads to a truce between the Danes and Britons.

Tragically, Ceolbert is killed in an ambush and the only evidence that Eivor has is a dagger with the crest of the Britons. Now angered by the betrayal, Eivor and Ivarr assault Caustow Castle, King Rhodri’s fortress (King Killer).

After successfully capturing King Rhodri, Ivarr and Eivor take him to a secluded location where Ivarr brutally kills him. Ivarr then makes a startling confession: he was the one who killed Ceolbert and pinned the murder on King Rhodri.

Ivarr challenges Eivor to a fight to the death; after his defeat, Eivor sends word to Ubba about his brother’s death.

  • Ivarr died well.
  • Ivarr died badly.
  • He wanted death.

How does telling Ubba Ivarr died well, badly or wanted death affect Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?

How to defeat Ivar the Boneless in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is the most widely played game in the long-running series, featuring boss battles with Ivar the Boneless being one of the most notable. If you’re getting ready to fight him, we’ve got all the tips and tricks you’ll need to keep the fight running smoothly and in your favor.

Preparing for battle

Yvarr is a name worth mentioning on the boss list because he is a constant companion. In order to trigger this scenario, you need to complete the assault on Kaust Castle, where they intend to capture King Rhodri, whom Ivar accused of killing Keolbert.

Once this mission is complete, you need to pick up Rodri and follow Ivar to the cliff. The cutscene that follows is overly graphic and should give players enough reason to want to kill Ivarr anyway. Eventually, Ivar will brag about taking Keolbert’s life, which angers Eivor and encourages her to fight Ivar to the death as he wishes. nine0003

Dodging Ivarr’s moves is the key to victory

Ivarr does not play as one of the big bosses, instead he fights with a normal opponent. The difficulty lies in his speed, and he tends to quickly dodge Eivor’s punches. The use of two axes also means that Ivar can perform combo moves and is difficult to predict from his template.

Ivar’s sensitive points are highlighted, like every boss, these are the right leg and left arm. It is important to hit these areas with arrows to stun him. This will give Eivor the opportunity to rush towards Ivarr and attack him. nine0003

An important point to note is Ivarr’s red rune attack as it cannot be blocked and should be avoided as it is guaranteed to damage Eivor’s health. Yvarr also uses a wrestling move in which he sheaths his weapon, jumps (indicated by the flash of a red rune around him), and grabs Eivor to throw her off a cliff into lower ground.

As mentioned, Ivar’s speed allows him to run fast, so being too far away from him will prompt Ivarr to throw axes at you. If Eivor collapses, Ivarr will jump to knock you to the ground, so try to avoid that. nine0003

End of the fight

The dirty trick that Ivar uses near the end is to stop fighting and taunt Eivor — it’s a surprise attack ploy, and it’s better not to fight and just attack Ivarr.

Once Ivarr’s strategy is known, he becomes just like any other opponent you need to defeat, which means that all you have to do is prepare for his attack prompts, dodge them, and attack when he stunned. After he is defeated, a cut-scene starts where Yvarr asks Eivor to hand over the ax to him so he can enter Valhalla. nine0003

Consequences of Ivarr’s defeat

Considering that he took Keolbert’s life and was a hindrance in general, it is better to refuse him Valhalla, although the choice is yours. Returning to Ivar’s brother Ubba, you can lie about the circumstances of Ivarr’s death or tell the truth.

If you choose not to lie, Ubba will appreciate your honesty. However, the lie will lead to a later scenario where an angry Ubba confronts Eivor after learning the truth and having vindictive intentions.

Kingslayer | Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

On this page of the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla guide you will find a detailed walkthrough for quest Assassin of Kings .

This quest starts southwest of Wesbury. Follow Ivar to start the quest.

Eventually you will reach Rodri Castle. It’s time to plan your attack. Go and talk to Ivar. If you are ready, proceed to storm the castle. Here you need to defeat the enemies in this area and then interact with the oil cart. Walk forward to the cyan objective marker. nine0003

When the red circle appears, press L1/LB to get ready so the arrows don’t hurt you so much. Move the oil cart to the castle door and set it on fire by pressing Triangle / Y.

Go inside. You can fight enemies here, but it’s not necessary — head towards the turquoise objective marker and then look to the left to find some red explosive jugs. Take one to the castle gate and throw it at the gate to destroy it.

Now head deeper into the castle towards the drawbridge. Look to the left and right of the drawbridge to find its links — shoot them with an arrow to lower the bridge.

Cross the bridge and take out the three enemies in front of the door on the other side. Go inside and a cutscene will begin. When prompted, choose any option for how Rodri should die — the overall result is the same.

After that, take Rodri and follow Ivar. nine0003

When you arrive, a cutscene will start. Here you will learn that Ivar killed Kelbert, and Eivor is rightly not happy about this. Let’s kill Ivar.

Ivar

Ivar is your friend you know throughout the game. Time to expose him for what he did to Kulbert.

  • His weak spots are his right leg and his left arm. Shoot them with an arrow.
  • He uses two axes to attack: be sure to dodge the red rune attack as you can’t block it. nine0074
  • The rest of his moves are the moves you’ve seen other enemies do: he will dash left and right and then hit you; will throw you off the ground; will make several rotating movements.
  • He’s really good at dodging, so don’t spam the attack button — try to parry his attacks and then counterattack.
  • If you land on the ground, he will jump and hit you — try to get up quickly to avoid these attacks.
