Core i9-9900K tested in Cinebench R15 at 5GHz

3DNews Technologies and IT market. Overclocking news and system performance measurements… Core i9-9900K tested in Cinebench …

The most interesting in the reviews

09/15/2018 [06:40],

Ivan Grudtsyn

Fans of novelties in the processor market are languishing in anticipation of the release of the Coffee Lake Refresh CPU family for the LGA1151 platform. According to preliminary data, the group of chips Intel Core 9th generation will include the Core i9-9900K, Core i7-9700K and Core i5-9600K models. With a favorable set of circumstances, they will be joined by the fourth processor with the suffix «K» — Core i3-9350K.

Those who set their sights on buying the flagship Core i9-9900K CPU will have to shell out a hefty sum of about $500. The good news is that with 8 physical cores and 16 data processing threads, you can “forget” about upgrading the platform for a long time. Even if at some point in the performance of the Core i9-9900K in normal operation will not be enough, it can be overclocked, after taking care of the cooling efficiency (scalping, apparently, is no longer required).

Hong Kong overclocker, member of the famous HKEPC team Lau Kin Lam demonstrated what the 8-core/16-thread LGA1151 processor is capable of at 5 GHz corresponding to its boost mode (nominal frequency is 3.6 GHz). Details of the test bench configuration were left behind the scenes, but it is very likely that the matter was not limited to air cooling. nineThe 0007

Core i9-9900K, with a boost multiplier of 50x and a load voltage of just 1.28V, scored an impressive 2166 points in the Cinebench R15 multi-threaded subtest. Note that we are talking about a prototype (ES) of the above model and probably a non-optimized motherboard UEFI firmware. Judging by the very possibility of overclocking by increasing the multiplier (from 36x to 50x), Lau Kin Lam used a board based on the Intel Z390 or Z370 chipset.

The result is 31% better than the estimated 1650 points (at 5 GHz) of the 6-core/12-thread Core i7-8700K. It is gratifying that increasing the number of cores by a third brought almost the same increase in performance — and all this within the framework of the mainstream LGA115x platform, which a year ago could not offer anything more serious than the quad-core Core i7-7700K processor. nine0007

Overclocked Core i7-8700K results in Cinebench R15

The success of the Intel Core i9-9900K should encourage AMD to release a 10- or 12-core processor in an AM4 design for about the same money ($500), since the configuration with a 12-core Ryzen CPU Threadripper 2920X will cost significantly more due to the high prices for compatible hardware — primarily for X399 motherboards and DDR4 DIMMs in the required quantity (4 pcs. ).

Core i9-9900K will run at 5 GHz with a load of two cores (update)

Rumors about the Core i9-9900K, Core i7-9700K and Core i5-9600K processors from the Core-9000 family have resurfaced in Asia. Information from the Chinese forum Coolaler has been confirmed more than once in the past, even if the new rumors do not fully correspond to the previous ones.

The top model Core i9-9900K will have at its disposal eight cores and 16 threads — which has already been mentioned many times. Thermal package 95W has also been known for a long time, it is the maximum for Coffee Lake S. But Intel seems to be lowering the base frequency of today’s fastest Core i7-8700K processor from 3.7 to 3.6 GHz, but the Boost frequency for single and dual cores will increase up to the full 5 GHz. With a load of four cores, the frequency will be up to 4.8 GHz, in the case of a load of six or eight cores — up to 4.7 GHz.

So the Core i9-9900K will be the second processor after the Core i7-8086K to break the magic bar of 5.0 GHz.

8/8 3.6GHz 4.9 / 4.8 / 4.7 / 4.6 / 4.6GHz 12MB 95W

6/12 5.0 / 4.6 / 4.4 / 4.3 / — GHC 12 MB 95 W Core I7-8700K 6/12 3.7 GHz 4.7 / 4.6 / 4.4 / 4. 3 / — GHz 12 MB 95 W
Core i5-9600K 6/6 3.7 GHz 4.6 / 4.5 / 4.4 / 4.3 / — GHz 9 MB 95 W
.6 GHz 4.3 / 4.2 / 4.2 / 4.1 / — GHz 9 MB 95 W

Unlike Core i9-9900K, processor0 Core i7-970 will not support Hyper-Threading, but will still offer eight processing cores. The L3 cache will be reduced from 16MB to 12MB. Boost mode with a load of 8 and 6 cores will decrease to 4.6 GHz, TDP will remain at 95 W. The maximum Boost frequency for a single core will not reach 5 GHz, limited to 4.9 GHz. It will be interesting to see how the Core i7-9700K performs without Hyper-Threading, as with two additional cores the processor will be a more interesting alternative than the Core i7-8700K with Hyper-Threading.

Core i5-9600K will have to do without Hyper-Threading. The processor offers six cores, 9 MB L3 cache and runs at a base frequency of 3. 7 GHz. Under load on one frequency increases to 4.6 GHz, in the case of all six cores, you can count on 4.3 GHz with proper cooling. TDP is still 95 W.

As we noted at the very beginning of the news, the information should be treated with some skepticism, since it does not fully correspond to the previous information. However, as the product develops, such changes in the maximum Boost frequency or in the number of active cores are quite possible, even at the last stage. The increase in clock speed, it seems, will still be higher than previously expected. Perhaps this is due to further progress in optimizing the 14nm process technology.

It is not yet known exactly when the new processors will be introduced. For the price, they are unlikely to be significantly different from their predecessors.

Update:

Another leak confirms previously known information about the Core i9-9900K and Core i7-9700K processors. Accordingly, the Core i9-9900K with eight cores and 16 threads with a load of one or two cores will operate at 5.
