I Am Alive is brutal; gripping; captivating; depressing; miserable; and almost always utterly brilliant. An unforgettable game that reminds you why we all love this medium.

Original survival horror is perfect in setting up a grim atmosphere. You can find many flaws in the game but there are very strong moments which make the game worth trying. [Nov 2012]

The end of the world has been portrayed in many ways, but no one has
done in a way so grey and bland as I Am Alive. The concept itself is
quite good, and at times it’s really enjoyable to traverse the dusty
town of Haventon, playing a psychological game with it’s pesky
inhabitants. Most times though, it simply is a clumsy and mediocre
experience.- All this publication’s reviews

Excellent! Game to come closest yet to The Road, really nails the survival element. And no it is not purely linear, you have a lot of freedomExcellent! Game to come closest yet to The Road, really nails the survival element. And no it is not purely linear, you have a lot of freedom within places and particularly in the centre of town (using the overhead railways as a starting point). Personally I liked the dust/fog that makes you not exactly sure of what is in the distance and forces you to climb up every so often. It could have been made a bit easier and a few more checkpoints, but that’s the only fault I can think of. The way it presents the horror and grimness of immediate post apocalyptic life where someone’s life is worth a couple of bullets is quite unique.… Expand

You start off by entering the city looking for your wife and daughter. You soon realize they are gone and on your way out you spot a little girl. Not being able to just let her wander on her own you decide to help her get back home and it goes from there.
There is alot of climbing, swinging and fighting in this game. Your reserves are VERY limited. More often than not you meet a group of foes with just 1 bullet and have to make due. After a series of earthquakes and the «event» that soon ensued, the entire city is filled with dust that seriously inhibit you field of view.
You have a health and a stamina meter you will have to manage carefully. The climbing mechanics are solid, dont know why people are so negative to this game, I will end this review with my theory on this. Every time you climb you use up stamina. With help from ledges and pivots you can regain your stamina while climbing. The story is not the best ever, one of the parts however is played by the same guy who plays Adam Jensen, the lead character in Deus Ex Human Revolution. In this game he only has a supporting role, should say something about the quality on the voice acting. Not bad, not bad at all.
Why people does not like this.
One would be the combat. they think the can rush in and take out 3 guys with one bullet. The only one who has ever been able to do this is Oswald in Dallas (if you believe the Warren commission). You have to take out the leader of the gang and threaten the other ones. You make them step back on to a ledge or right next to a fire and kick them over the ledge or in to the fire. There are all sorts of ways to win.
The other might be visibility. You have map that aren´t so detailed and there is no «radar» or arrow in the ground like Bioshock Infinite. It can be real tricky to find you way forward on map that can scale 5 levels up through a building and stuff like that.
It´s like this. negative people will always find the bad things, in everything from games to real life, all they ever do is complain. Then we have the optimists who can actually enjoy games that are no blockbusters like this one. Like my bro in law, I enjoyed this and will tell him so. i would bet my left testi that he will say it sucked and start complaining like he always do. … Expand

I really liked the ideas behind the game, especially the mechanics and interacting with the AI enemies — ie scaring ppl away by waving a gunI really liked the ideas behind the game, especially the mechanics and interacting with the AI enemies — ie scaring ppl away by waving a gun around. The execution of said ideas is what really let it down. Combat and exploration is very sad. The full gameplay is only a couple of hrs, so you COULD get it anyway and just suck it up when dealing with the auto-aim-adjust nonsense, the target swap nonsense, and more. Nonsense combat, that is. Case in point; In the tutorial, it told the protag to point the gun and scare a thug into surrendering. After that, pressing E would knock him out pretty quick — no cutscenes — no struggles. From then on though, this trick never works again because the E will trigger a struggle cutscene of mouse mashing. This means it is crap against multiple enemies. What is the game doing? The worst by far is aim-assist though. You may have seen it before. In Borderlands 1, this feature is automatically turned on. It’s impossible to headshot someone with the feature on.
Besides combat, you have climbing and resource management. If you’ve played or read Metro 2033/Metro Last Light, Tomb Raider, and Amnesia (with your light sources), I Am Alive has nothing challenging or scary once you turn off the music. The music is REALLY good.
The best things about this game is its environment. It’s done a great job of that. Though if you wanted that kind of feel, Alan Wake does an equally good job too. With less GPU bugs.
Yeah. It’s a good idea that never delivered. Not worth your time and money. May be worth a demo play though, to get a vague concept what they did do well.… Expand

Review by Julian Benson.
I’ve done terrible, terrible things to stay alive. I kicked a man off the third storey of a building for a bottle of water, threatened someone with an empty shotgun while I stole their food… I even left a women to be molested rather than use one of my precious bullets to stop her attacker.
I am Alive takes all the third-person running, gunning and jumping of the Tomb Raider series and applies it to a world in apocalypse: dust storms suffocate anyone walking unmasked in the city streets, bandits kill or rape anyone who can’t defend themselves, and life-saving food and medicine are in short supply.
It’s taken a year for you to return to your home city of Haventon following ‘The Event’. You’re in search of your family but quickly fall in with a group of survivors, helping them find medicine and safe passage out of the city.
Alive’s 18-certificate is deserved: it has scenes of sexual abuse, cannibalism and bleak morality, but they’re not gratuitous, and the designers have been canny in using the brutality of the game to inform its simple mechanics.
Similarly to the Assassin’s Creed games, you can scale buildings, using windowsills and drainpipes for handholds. But in Alive, your limited stamina makes every climb potentially deadly. Over-exert yourself with long jumps and your maximum stamina takes a hit. Spend too long between rest points and you’ll fall to your death. It conveys the danger of climbing in a way the Assassin’s games never tried.
Combat too has a twist. Always short of ammunition, yet having to deal with large groups of enemies, you’re forced to use surprise and your environment to survive. Slice the throat of the first person to get too close, then pull a gun on the remaining bandits and force them to back up against a ledge before kicking them to their deaths.
Unfortunately, because you face so many enemies you must repeat the same encounter many times, always following the same routine: surprise kill, shoot, ledge kick. Each time you go through the actions it highlights the simple mechanics. If there were fewer enemies, this underlying system wouldn’t be so obvious, and tension wouldn’t turn to boredom.
The climbing too, while tense, can become a grind. Little things like the violin score that gets louder as your stamina diminishes quickly become annoying: it makes even a short jog sound as if it’s an epic struggle.
The game’s setting – an American city, with all its skyscrapers cracked and its streets empty save for abandoned, rusting roadblocks – is an arresting sight that makes I am Alive stand out against other survival horror games. However, despite the work that’s gone into creating a cohesive experience, it falls just short of being satisfying. It’s an entertaining five hours, but it’s an experience that won’t flash before your eyes in death.

Gameplay
«View Full View»
I Am Alive is an action-adventure and survival game. The player must monitor not only the character’s health, but also his fatigue — any effort takes away the energy necessary for survival. The character has a natural need for food: food allows you to restore health, and water relieves fatigue and replenishes your strength. All the necessary products can be found on an extensive map, but often you will have to fight for important items. If the player dies, they are given the option to reload the game from the last checkpoint. nine0003
However, this requires a so-called “try” to do so. They are scattered in different areas of the city (often in hard-to-reach or inconspicuous places) in the form of white video cameras, and their number is very limited (except for playing on an easy level). When resetting the number of attempts and death, the player will have to replay the entire episode from the beginning. Survivors remained in the cities, they will fight with all their might for their existence, similarly to the main character. Some of them will just defend their territory, some will be more aggressive and attack the main character when they are spotted. The stock of ammunition for weapons will always be extremely scarce, so you need to get out of difficult situations with the help of cunning. For example, against a large number of enemies there will not be enough cartridges, then you need to use the right tactics: surrender to the opponents, but as soon as one of them comes closer, then kill him with a hidden cleaver, which will give an important advantage. With a complete lack of ammo in the magazine, the character can use threats, since the enemy does not know if you have ammo to shoot. In the city, the player will also meet unarmed victims who can be helped by sharing food or medicine. For this, the player will be rewarded with additional attempts. Plot
An earthquake with an amplitude of 10.3 hits Chicago. The main character named Adam, on his way home from work, finds himself under the rubble of a building. Adam gets out, but for almost a year he is chained to a hospital bed. And now, 11 months later, Adam goes in search of his wife and daughter. The main goal of the game is «survival» in the harsh conditions of a degraded society, where people no longer lend a helping hand to each other in difficult situations, but are guided solely by the principle of natural selection. Meanwhile, economical consumption and the use of all resources found among the ruins of civilization is a very important quality in the vastness of I Am Alive. nine0003
Of course, there will be clashes with the natives living in Haventon, the protagonist’s hometown. In addition, the combat system of I Am Alive is backed up by the ability to «intimidate» enemies with, say, a regular pistol — even if it does not have cartridges, some marauders, at the sight of one barrel aimed at their heads, will prefer to retreat. However, this trick will not always work.
Weapons other than the pistol include a machete, a homemade bow with arrows that can be used multiple times, and a shotgun that can be obtained by assisting one of the victims. All weapons are obtained according to the plot. Adam also finds a grappling hook, body armor, and a respirator. nine0003
In the main character’s house, you can find a rabbit from the game Rayman Raving Rabbids.
Vans with the emblem of the organization «Black Arrow» from the game Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction can be found on the streets of the city. Download the game I’m Alive on PC via torrent full version.

Synopsis
The story of the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic environment and tells about a man who must survive a catastrophe while trying to find his wife and daughter.
game system
The game is played from a third person perspective and features different phases depending on the tension placed on the player:
- classic escalation phases similar to phase Uncharted , Assassin’s Creed or Prince of Persia, except we’re timed by stamina.
- confrontation phases where we have to quickly assess what actions are best to take to get out of it, we have a pistol without ammunition at the beginning and quite rarely after that, and a machete that we acquire quite quickly, in each situation there is one or more more or less optimal solutions. Psychology and observation needed
The player can choose throughout the adventure whether to save civilians who ask for your help or not, this affects his final score and entitles him to a «retry» that allows you to start over from the last save when the character dies, and the amount which is limited.
Development
The development of the game was initiated by the French studio Darkworks, to which we are indebted, in particular, Cold Fear and Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare . In an interview in 2010, Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot says that Ubisoft Shanghai «took the game to zero», including its concept and its story. Ubisoft would later explain that this change was necessary «in order to meet release deadlines while maintaining exceptional quality for this ambitious game,» a company spokesperson explained. However, Ubisoft clarified that Darkworks will be «associated with the success of the game.»
Released on Xbox Live, on the Playstation Store (PSN), and on PC.
