Gtx 1050 ti full hd: MSI Computer Video Graphic Cards GeForce GTX 1050 TI GAMING X 4G, 4GB : Electronics

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti review: Best 1080p graphics card under £200

It’s been a pretty bleak couple of months for anyone hoping to buy a new graphics card, but there’s still a bit of good news to be found for those whose ambitions stop firmly at getting a great gaming experience at 1920×1080, as entry-level cards like the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti on test here have been largely unaffected by recent price hikes.

Indeed, the GTX 1050Ti currently occupies the top spot in our guide to the best graphics cards for 1080p gaming, and more importantly can still be found for as little as £150-odd in the UK and a fraction over $200 in the US. That’s almost half the cost of Nvidia’s next card up, the GTX 1060, which you can read more about in our Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 review. It won’t be much good for anything beyond 1080p, but if Full HD gaming is your bag, then the GTX 1050 Ti is an excellent choice.

To help us see how it performs, we’ve got MSI’s GeForce GTX 1050Ti Gaming X 4GB doing the heavy lifting today. Much like other Ti versions of Nvidia’s graphics cards, the GTX 1050Ti shares the same graphics chip and 128-bit memory bus as the regular GTX 1050, but has slightly more cores (768 compared to 640). For context, a GTX 1060 has 1152 cores, while the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 rocks 2650 of them.

Critically, the 1050Ti only comes in a 4GB trim, which is arguably the minimum amount of graphics memory you want these days if you are remotely serious about gaming. The normal GTX 1050, by comparison, only comes with 2GB, which doesn’t make it very futureproof.

To see how it runs, I jumped straight into Doom running the same Medium-ish (technical term) settings at 1080p that I’d last dabbled with running the RX 460 and, bingo, the result is slick, smooth gaming around the 60 to 70fps mark. In other words, there are a few frames to spare if you wanted to up the image quality a little.

It’s a similar story in The Witcher 3. It’s properly playable at 1080p. Toggle high in the global image quality settings and you lose some of the fluidity, but it’s still eminently playable. Thus, your choice is between quality of visuals and maximizing smoothness and response. The Ultra setting is clearly a step too far, but the overarching point is that you have options and you will find a set up you can live with at 1080p.

Much the same applies to Total War: Attila. It really flies on Medium settings and gives you options for running with more bells and whistles while keeping the frames up at decent levels. It’s really only when zoomed right up close and personal with the troop action that proceedings are less than buttery smooth at 1080p.

With all that in mind, it’s no surprise that Shadow of Mordor, which is a fairly undemanding in terms of graphics, zips along sweetly even at Ultra image quality settings. That in turn means that the 1050Ti is much more what I was hoping for from this generation of entry-level cards. It’s a graphics card you could absolutely live with as a proper gaming solution for a 1080p screen and even has a little headroom to spare for the inevitable uptick in demand from future games, albeit you won’t be playing them at anything like maximum detail.

There’s always a hope that things might be cheaper, but when its big brother, the GTX 1060, is still suffering from such a prolonged period of price inflation, the GTX 1050Ti is about as good as it’s going to get for under £200/$200.

GTX 1050 Ti – Performance and Benchmarks Review

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti – Performance and Benchmarks

I tested the GTX 1050 Ti  in our in-house test rig. It represents a fairly typical gaming PC and consists of the following components:

  • Motherboard: Asus Z170-Deluxe
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6600K (not overclocked)
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2,666MHz, 16GB DDR4
  • Cooler: Corsair H60 liquid cooler
  • PSU: Corsair CX750M
  • SSD: Samsung 850 EVO
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

The results graphs show comparison benchmarks between the closest-priced rivals: the RX 470 and 460. This will prove useful if the GTX 1050 Ti receives a discount or the price increases. But right now, since the three are priced so differently, it’s really just proof that paying more gets you better performance.

Dirt Rally

As always, TrustedReviews‘ easiest benchmark is Dirt Rally. Even at maximum settings, this is a relatively simple rendering task thanks to there being only one vehicle on-screen at any one time. There are fast-moving objects and textures and a stream of lighting and particle effects, but Dirt Rally represents simpler gaming titles that won’t tax modern hardware.

In my tests, the GTX 1050 Ti managed 65.5fps at Ultra settings and Full HD resolution. That puts it slap-bang in the middle of the RX 470 and 460, and is a very playable frame rate. Dropping the presets by a notch would guarantee a stable 60+fps, but this is only for those who prioritise frame rates above all else.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Shadow of Mordor is a tough cookie at its maximum settings and Full HD resolution. This short benchmark chucks explosion effects, weather and plenty of NPCs at our test system.

Our standard test is run at maximum settings and the GTX 1050 Ti managed an average output of 58. 3fps, which is playable without having to make any changes to graphics settings.

Hitman

Hitman has always been an odd duck in our suite of benchmarks. It’s a tough test with lots of detailed NPCs milling around. What’s most frustrating about the test is how massively it favours AMD graphics cards, which can really skew the numbers when running benchmarks. Nowhere more clearly can this be seen than with the GTX 1050 Ti.

Managing a result of 43fps is perfectly respectable, but compared to the much cheaper AMD Radeon RX 460 it was just 3fps ahead. The RX 470 stretches its lead even further with a huge 67.1fps.

Hitman is always the exception, but if you’re an avid assassin then this might play into your buying decision. Dropping settings to Very High improved things significantly to 65.2fps.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Our final benchmark in this review is Rise of the Tomb Raider. It’s a very pretty game and its varied benchmark has lots of lighting and weather effects with which to contend.

In this test, the 1050 Ti managed a playable 40.5fps, which isn’t as smooth as many would like. Dropping down to Medium settings improved performance to 58fps, which makes for a much more consistent experience.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti – Heat, noise and power consumption

Drawing power only from the PCI-E connector, it isn’t surprising to see that the 1050 Ti is the least power-hungry GPU we’ve tested so far this year. Measuring its peak power consumption during the Hitman benchmark, it drew – at most – 140W.

This is reflected in its heat and noise stats, too. I didn’t see it go beyond 50oC during my testing, and the single fan on the MSI unit under review spun quietly throughout my testing.

Should I buy the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti?

The 1050 Ti is a triumph of gaming grunt and power consumption. You won’t find a more powerful card that’s smaller and quieter. It will handle the latest games at Full HD resolutions at Medium and High settings, and with 4GB of memory on board it’s unlikely that you’ll bump up against its capacity when playing in Full HD.

As ever, you should always buy the most expensive GPU you can afford, and for just £24 extra – at the time of writing – you can get your hands on the more powerful AMD Radeon RX 470, which comfortably handles our benchmark games at maximum settings at around 60fps. How long that special offer lasts remains to be seen, however, so you should remain vigilant when price checking both cards.

Since this review went live, the RX 470 mentioned is no longer available for £164, so it appears it was a very short-time offer. The more powerful 3GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 sits in the same price bracket, making it an attractive alternative for £180 if you have extra cash. It’s worth keeping an eye on price fluctuations on both cards in case they fall within your absolute maximum spend.

The only reservation I have is future games. While most GPUs typically have a pretty long shelf life, the less you spend, the shorter that life will be. Two years from now, you might think about replacing your 1050 Ti with whatever comes next to ensure your Full HD gaming experience remains top-notch.

Recall that in a couple of recent articles, we evaluated the capabilities of the GTX 1060 in 6 and 3 GB versions as the most popular video cards among the people according to Steam. Now let’s look at the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, which has gained a foothold in the second stage of popularity, and even again in the top of sales. nine0003

Ether miners are no longer interested in it, because the size of the DAG file has exceeded 4 GB. Therefore, there is a chance to find it at a reasonable price. Steam stats say it’s in bulk. And back in February, it was rumored that NVIDIA again began shipping the GTX 1050 Ti to partners to improve the situation in the budget segment.

This model is based on a combination of a 14nm Pascal generation GP107-400 GPU and 4GB of GDDR5 memory. The GPU has 768 CUDA cores, 48 texture units and 32 raster units. The memory operates at an effective frequency of 7 GHz with a 128-bit bus. nine0003

Let’s renew our acquaintance with this video card using the Colorful iGame GTX 1050 Ti U-4G as an example. In 2017, she came to us from the store TOMTOP , like the representatives of the GTX 1060 line previously tested in this cycle. The first corresponds to the reference frequencies, the second offers 7% overclocking. There is a special button on the interface panel to switch modes. In games, the frequency of the GPU was usually in the region of 1800 MHz, and the temperature was in the range of 50-60 ° C with a critical value of 97°C. In other words, the cooler is still doing its job perfectly.

At the end of the article, we will compare the performance of the GTX 1050 Ti with internal competitors: the 3 and 6 GB GTX 1060 by MAXUN and Colorful, as well as the newer GTX 1650 from Palit. The first two models appeared in past materials.

In turn, the Palit GeForce GTX 1650 StormX OC has a very compact size, a single-fan cooler, a slight factory overclocking of the GPU and 4 GB of GDDR5 memory. Although on sale you can look for versions of the GTX 1650 with GDDR6 memory — they are 10-15% faster. nine0003

And now let’s quickly recall the stand configuration and move on to the tests. The processor is a 6-core 12-thread Core i5-10600 . Even without overclocking, it is enough with a margin for the operation of similar video cards of the previous generation.

Since there is no overclocking, then the motherboard can be taken simpler, for example, ASRock h570 Steel Legend . It has everything you need to build a powerful PC, including an 11-phase power subsystem, two M.2 slots, a reinforced PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, and a 2.5 GB LAN controller. nine0003

The 2-section dropsy ID-COOLING DashFlow 240 coped with the cooling of the processor. It is designed for AMD and Intel chips with a TDP of up to 350 W, so it didn’t strain at all, but it provided a convenient and easy replacement for video cards. Its pair of 120mm fans are based on reliable double ball bearings.

Also for tests we needed a 2-channel set of DDR4-2400 HyperX Fury RGB RAM with a total capacity of 16 GB, for which we manually set 2666 MHz in the BIOS. nine0003

The operating system and game clients were installed on a Kingston A400 M.2 SSD with a capacity of 480 GB. It uses the SATA interface, so the maximum sequential read and write speeds are declared at 500 and 450 MB/s. In reality, both indicators exceed 500 MB / s.

We took a 2-terabyte M.2 Kingston KC2500 for games. This is no longer SATA, but PCIe NVMe SSD. Sequential read and write speeds declared at 3500 and 2900 MB/s respectively. Approximately the same indicators are seen in practice.

Reliable power for all nodes was provided by the Seasonic FOCUS GX-650 source with the 80 PLUS Gold certificate. Its only + 12V channel can deliver 648 W at a rated power of 650. The total load capacity of the +3.3 and + 5V lines is 100 W. Also pleased with the presence of a complete list of protections.

The Antec Dark Phantom DP502 FLUX 9 case has become a comfortable nest for all the components0020 . It not only supports the installation of large components, but also provides good cooling. Ventilation holes are missing only on the tempered glass side panel. And the kit already has five 120-mm turntables.

AOC U2790PQU professional monitor was used to display the picture. Gameplays recorded by external system with AVerMedia Live Gamer 4K , i.e. without loss of performance.

At the first stage of testing, we checked the capabilities of the GTX 1050 Ti when launching diverse new and current games in Full HD, because only a few will use it for high resolutions. nine0003

In World of Tanks you can also ride a light tank on ultras. The average speed exceeds 60 FPS, but the statistics of very rare events in places drops below 24 with explosions and light stators slip through. It is better to go to the maximum preset, then it will be definitely comfortable.

Demo Little Nightmares II on the ultras was a bit slow in the starting minutes. Then everything passed, and the average speed was kept above 70 fps. The video sequence is smooth and there are no questions to control. And the game requires a minimum of memory. nine0003

Valheim was run twice at medium preset with tessellation off, soft shadows and render depth. For the first time we used the DirectX 11 mode. In general, it runs well at an average speed of about 50 FPS, but it can’t do without slowdowns. +10 FPS can be obtained by turning off SSAO.

For the second launch, we switched to Vulkan mode without changing the graphics settings. The network is talking about improving the smoothness of the video sequence, but our indicators fell by 6-9%, which is equivalent to 3 FPS. The problem with random jamming while exploring the world has not gone away.

Grounded was also launched twice. The first time with the medium preset, the graphics got 45 FPS. Microfreezes occasionally occur. Most often — at the beginning of the game, immediately after loading the world. In general, you can run, or you can go down to a low preset.

In this case, the average speed rises to 50 fps. The picture becomes worse, although it still remains pleasing to the eye. It’s up to you to decide what to sacrifice: the smoothness of the video sequence or the detail of the image. nine0003

Warframe launched on an improved engine with a high preset. In a closed location we get more than 70 FPS on average. Play comfortably. Freezes occasionally appear when moving to a new location. With the classic engine, the frame rate should be higher.

Rainbow Six Siege at a very high preset with 100% scaling in operations requires a little more than 3 GB of monitoring video memory and about 6 GB of RAM. There were no friezes and stators, and the video sequence remained smooth. For more comfort and a margin of safety, you can drop to a high profile.
