When Team NINJA and Koei Tecmo Games’ Nioh went live on the PS4 earlier this year, critics and fans alike praised its challenging, strategic combat system, 17th century Japanese setting, focus on exploration, and hardcore gameplay, reminiscent of the hugely popular Dark Souls series. Fans clamored for a PC version, and now it’s officially here, in the form of Nioh: Complete Edition.
On top of the original game, it comes with three expansions: Dragon of the North, Defiant Honor, and Bloodshed’s End. And a PC-only Dharmachakra Kabuto helmet with an oddly familiar valve on the front. Plus, there are a variety of graphics settings and options to choose from, along with two quick-start presets: the 60 FPS Action Mode, and the cinematic Movie Mode, which includes 4K support.
Nioh, as you may have figured out by its imagery, is drenched in 1600’s Samurai lore. You play as blond-haired lone traveler William, a deadly swordsman loosely based on a real-life English navigation officer who served beneath Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. In the game, William’s warrior skills come in quite useful indeed, as you’ll face seemingly insurmountable challenges around every corner. Your journey takes place within the Warring States period, and you’ll do battle against numerous variations of Yokai: horrific demons heavily inspired by Japanese folklore. You’ll also have to contend with other samurai, and often more than one at a time, requiring intense concentration, lightning-quick reflexes, and deep tactics. More than anything, Nioh isn’t shy about its difficulty—in fact, it wears it like a badge of honor. When you manage to beat a mission or take down a particularly nasty boss, you’ll feel utter elation immediately after.
Luckily, you won’t have to do everything alone, as you’ll have plenty of opportunities to summon other players into the mix—this is often a crucial component when challenging some of the meanest Yokai. And while it’s nice to think others might help you based off a spirit of pure altruism, they’ll likely be more motivated to assist thanks to the lucrative in-game rewards they can reap (regardless if it’s a victory or defeat).
Nioh’s combat is based around a system of stances, parries, and Ki (a form of stamina). Each of the three available stances provide pluses and minuses, and you’ll have to swap between them frequently for the best results. The high stance gives your attacks superior power, but limits dodging and blocking. The mid stance is mostly defensive and one of the safest postures, but it lacks penetration and flanking speed. The low stance is wonderful for dodging and staying nimble, but it has the weakest (albeit fastest) attacks; the low stance is very handy for shaving off the last sliver of an enemy’s health. But no matter what you do, you can expect your Ki to drain, and often hastily, depending on your actions. It’s critical to manage your Ki at all times, because if it runs out, you’re basically a sitting duck. To become truly effective at Nioh, you’ll need to master the Ki-pulse: a timed maneuver that refills your Ki meter, even in the thick of battle. The more precise the timing, the more Ki you’ll recover.
As you start conquering your opponents, you’ll gradually earn skill points, which you can then apply to stances for specific weapons—this is perfect for fine-tuning your offense and defense, and allows you to create a unique approach to the fighting. Speaking of weapons, there are lots of them, as well as many different kinds of armor; your appearance and armaments will change frequently throughout the game. For truly demanding situations, where even superior swordplay and advanced tactics just aren’t getting the job done, you can activate a power that grants hyper-destructive special moves and makes you temporarily invincible. It takes quite a while to charge this ability though, so you’ll want to use it only when you absolutely have to.

GFN.RU refuses to return the money, despite its promises — Offtop on DTF
Hello everyone. This is my first post on dtf and it will be a review about the GeForce Now cloud service, or rather about its Russian division gfn.ru and how they scammed everyone.

It’s no secret what cloud gaming is and how it works. And if it’s a secret, then in this post it doesn’t matter.
It was December 10th. Cyberpunk 2077 just had time to release and I went to test it on my gtx 1650. Spoiler: things were not going well and the result that my video card produced could hardly be called playable.
Since I did not have the funds to assemble a new powerful PC, I turned to cloud gaming in order to pay for a month’s subscription and easily complete a new game from the Poles. My choice immediately fell on GFN for many reasons, one of which, it seemed to me, was the close relationship of the graphics card manufacturer with the cloud gaming service. I thought that no one else but them can provide the best gaming experience. How wrong I was.
So, on the morning of December 10, having already managed to get upset at the power of my hardware, I paid for a subscription to GFN without thinking and the following greeting awaited me:

Queues for at least 500 people, and sometimes for 900 or even «sorry, the service is currently overloaded. » I had to wait for my session for 3-6 hours. And this is good if the session does not crash at startup or the desired game is not installed on the virtual machine that I started (yes, yes, I have met such). And if you’re not lucky, then turn off the session and get in line again.

This was some kind of mockery, given the presence of a premium subscription on my account. 15-20 minutes of waiting would be fine, but queuing in the evening to play at night did not sound very encouraging.
Also to clarify, I played mostly at night due to the fact that during the day the load on the GFN servers was the wildest and the bitrate of the picture that came to my computer was terribly low and overkill.
I tried to play in this mode for a week, but my patience was not enough. I just burned out and didn’t want to play cyberpunk anymore. My experience has been ruined. I no longer run this service.
Time passed and GFN, knowing that they had such a problem on the service, issued a statement on December 22.
What it was about:
1) All GFN.RU Premium Members who played or queued up in GeForce NOW from December 9 to 20 will receive an individual code for an additional seven days of Premium. You can activate the code and get 7 days once until January 1, 2021. We will send the code by the end of the week.

Pay attention to point 3. From it we see that they are ready to return the money. Therefore, we write them a letter for a refund. (I wrote on December 30, I was on time, judging by their post on VK, but we will return to this later, so remembered the moment with the date ).
They answered me after 8 days, although they promised 5.
The essence of the answer, in short: We cannot issue a refund, because the queues in our service do not exceed 17 minutes ( remember this number, this is important and you will soon understand why).
I was wildly bombarded with this and in response I described to them my entire gaming experience in their service, how I waited for hours for a game, how they were unavailable and how their gaming machines did not pull Hyper Scape (a very undemanding game) that I launched once, between lines in cyberpunk for fun.
And they give me a brilliant answer.
I don’t want to repeat myself, but remember the phrase «reception of appeals was limited to a certain date.»
After that, I bombed a little more in the correspondence with support, due to the fact that they did not name any dates, except for the terms of activation of the promo code, after which they stopped answering me at all. Here is the rest of the dialogue.
And after that I went to look at the comments under their posts in VK. And then the puzzle came together.
Here are some comments from users who, like me, were told about 17-minute queues and denied a refund. Coincidence? Then let’s move on.
The user’s next comment about the fact that the returns were allegedly carried out before «some date» (another coincidence), although the person indicates that he applied on December 26 (returns were opened on December 22, by the way).
It turns out that no matter when you requested a refund, you were still denied. What date was before which GFN actually carried out returns, apparently GFN himself knows. And based on the mood of people in the comments of their official group, no one was able to receive returns, although the company itself made such a statement. And instead, everyone was unanimously offered to grab promotional codes.
You can draw the conclusion from this post yourself. After that, I, as a client, was completely disappointed in GFN.RU and will hardly ever return to this service. Although initially I planned to spend the money from the return of the subscription to pay for the new month, when the cyberpunk hype subsides and the server load drops. But apparently not fate. GFN most likely lost a lot of customers on this one. And if you don’t agree, here’s a promo code for 7 days of subscription to a service that will make you stand in line for a couple more hours.

There have been many Japanese-style games in the gaming industry throughout history. The gameplay and plot of many of them were very banal, but some instances are of particular value, such as the game Nioh, which is loved by fans of slashers, hardcore and Japanese mythology. When the game is launched, and all conditions are provided for its comfortable passage, you can begin to immerse yourself in a world saturated with the spirit of Japan and filled with demons.
A man and his guardian spirit
The plot of the game begins in London. The protagonist wakes up in a prison cell, from which you need to find a way out, which, oddly enough, is the only one — a break in the wall. The first enemy the hero encounters is a guard with a sword. Fighting him will help you deal with the controls and become more confident.
Please note! In the central room, you can find a chest with starting equipment, as well as a steel sword.
Going further along the corridor, the main character will encounter a group of opponents who, although they do not pose a particular threat to him, can fight back. By blocking blows and counterattacking, it will be possible to break through further, to the second tier. There will be an altar — an object that will periodically occur in the game. With it, you can save, change the guardian spirit or «pump» the characteristics of the character.
After saving, you should go up to the top floor and, after clearing it of enemies, go down. There you need to open the bolt from the door leading to the already familiar altar. Not far from it there will be an exit to the street.
On the street, the hero will face more serious enemies — knights. When he breaks through them and enters the tower, a cut-scene will begin, after which the hero will have to fight a boss named Derek the Executioner.
Demon Island
After defeating the first boss and watching another cutscene, the hero will find himself on the coast of Kuroshima Island. There you will need to climb the hill and clear it of opponents, looking around every corner and picking up new equipment.
At the top of the hill there will be a gate leading to a village filled with monsters. The key to them is stored in a house nearby. When the gates to the village are open, you will need to go through it to the coast, simultaneously exterminating monsters, as well as archers and spearmen.
Important! The whole village is engulfed in fire, and you can get around it only on the roofs.
After clearing the village, the hero will see a dock with an old ship. On the ship is the second, even more serious boss — Onryoki.
Deep in the Shadows
Having already mastered the game a bit, as well as learning how to use the game store, you should continue the passage of the game Nioh. The next location after the island of demons is a cave with many cliffs and secret passages. It needs to be fully explored, making its way through the monsters.
Once in the spacious hall, you need to pay attention to the archer standing on top. Behind him is the door to the boss of the location, and you can get to him through a passage hidden behind the stones. Having dealt with the archer, the hero will realize that the door is locked. This is not a problem — you can unlock it by walking across the bridge and calling a warrior from the grave, after defeating which a spirit will appear. He will tell you about the «walls with eyes», one of which will be to the right of the hero. By attacking it, the hero will summon a demon to fight, and behind it there will be a key to the door leading to the boss.
Dream of the Spirit Stone
After the boss battle, the main character will be near the temple, the yard of which must be cleared. Here you can find many useful items dropped from enemies and hidden in caches.
After clearing the area, the hero will enter another yard where the door is located. Behind it, he will face another Nue boss, defeating which, you need to talk to the NPC and go down to the temple dungeon.
Note! The temple dungeons are filled with traps and dangerous enemies.
At this stage, the main task of the hero is to search for a fire totem, after activation of which a passage will open to the second boss of the location — Muneshige Tachibana.
Wailing Silver Mine
Upon entering a new location, the hero will notice that the entire mine is filled with poisonous gas. It exudes stones, destroying which, you can avoid poisoning. Also throughout the location there are mechanisms that purify the air — they will be extremely useful.
The main task here is to find a ramp, passing through which the hero will be able to get into a new cave. Climbing up the ledges above, you will need to find the corpse, which contains the key to the central mine. A lot of demons roam in it, having dealt with which, it will turn out to open a short path to the altar, as well as get to the boss — a large centipede.
And the ocean roars again
As you progress through this location, you will need to activate torches that will be useful in the battle with the boss. The main danger here is water. Any wrong move will lead to death, so you should be on the lookout.
Killing the pirates and breaking forward, the hero will find a ladder to the roof, through which you can bypass the water barrier and find yourself in front of the gate to the boss named Umibozu.
Spider Castle
This area will be hell for arachnophobes as it is filled with spiders whose attacks cause exhaustion. Here you need to navigate by the torches in order to eventually find the spider nest. It will help you find the sanctuary located nearby.
After passing through the door and climbing to the top of the hill, you need to find the key among the corpses and get to the castle, which houses Jorōgumo, the boss of the current location.
Snowfall
Here the hero has to find crystals that open the way to the boss. Each of them is guarded by crowds of enemies, and quite strong ones.
Crystals must be broken along the way. Eventually, when you reach the snow-covered hill, you will find another sanctuary. After the destruction of most of the crystals, the road, previously inaccessible to the hero, will open, and along it it will be possible to get to the last stone, the destruction of which will open access to the level boss — Yuki-onna.
Demon of Mount Hiei
The principle of passing this chapter is similar to the previous one, since here you also need to destroy the crystals. Now it’s more difficult to do this — the objects are guarded by magicians. Enemies are also encountered on the way between the stones — extremely strong demons, the killing of which will require skill.
The goal of the hero here is to find a cave with a crystal, which must be destroyed and climb up the stairs. The path at the very top will lead to a demon that looks like Nue (the previously defeated boss), and defeating him will allow you to fight the main boss of the level — Byakko.
Escape from Iga
In this chapter, the hero will have to face ninjas — agile and strong opponents. They use poison, so the antidote in the inventory will not be superfluous. Here, one thing is required from the players: cleaning the corridors and various rooms.
In addition to the ninja, you will also have to face the spiders, killing which, as well as avoiding the trap, the character will get into the room with the boss — a giant frog.
Memories of Death Lilies
This is another area that has water and cliffs. This is a clear sign to be careful. When the hero clears the main part of the level, he will be able to open a shortcut to the sanctuary.
Please note! When killing monsters, you can stumble upon Kodama, a small creature that grants various bonuses.
In this chapter, Kodama will give the hero an additional task.
Having overcome all the difficulties, the hero will reach the tower, near which you can find the key to the level boss. With the key, you need to go back to the building located near the first altar and open the gate. Behind them is the boss Ogriha.
Defiled Castle
Stock up on antidotes before starting the mission. The location is a sewer filled with poisonous fog and demons. There will be two bosses here, one of which is extremely easy to kill.
To get to the leaders, you need to get out of the sewers and get into the courtyard after fighting the samurai. The hero again needs to destroy the crystal, having previously defeated the demon Yoki. After that, you can go through the door on the left, leading to the arena with the Honda Tadakatsu boss.
After defeating Honda, the hero must leave the arena and clear the area of monsters and samurai. It opens a short path to the shrine and gets to the second boss — Okatsu.
Origins of Evil
The Nioh playthrough is coming to an end, and the demons are getting stronger and their numbers are growing. At the beginning of the chapter, the hero will enter the arena, where you need to deal with opponents and go further. Along the way, he will meet the demons Onreko, Yoki and hordes of the undead.
After passing by demonic buildings and defeating opponents, the hero will gain access to the level boss — Gasya-dokuro.
Sacred Mountain Filth
In this chapter, the hero will have to choose one of several paths to get to the new shrine. After visiting him, you need to go along the right road until the hero gets to the bridge, bypassing all kinds of traps and fighting enemies.
There will be a cave behind the bridge, inside which the hero can pray at the altar and prepare for the boss fight. The boss of this location is Ishida Mitsunari.
Samurai from Sawayama
Once in a long corridor, you need to find a hatch hidden behind logs and go down. There the hero will face thick fog, many enemies and traps. After overcoming obstacles, you should kill Onedo, from which the prison guard’s key will fall out, opening all locked doors.
After that, you need to go upstairs again, defeat the huge spider and go to the next room. There is a staircase along which you can go to the boss — the Black Samurai.
Appearance of the Demon King
At the beginning of the final part of the passage of Nioh: Complete Edition, the hero will have to take Kodama, clear his way of the undead, go through the door and kill Yoki. When he gets to the thick fog, he will be attacked by enemies. They need to be neutralized in order to find a shortcut back.
Note! To search for bosses, you should be guided by the marks on the mini-map. The enemies will be the previously defeated Nue, Onreki, Yuki-onna, and Zero-gumo. After defeating them, an elevator will appear that will lead the hero to the main bosses of the game, namely, Oda Nabunaga and Edward Kelly, who will later turn into Yamata no Orochi.

Epilogue. Eyes of the Queen
The final bosses are beaten, but the story is not over. To complete it, the hero needs to return to the first location and go through it in reverse order. So he will find himself in the room where the servant of Elizabeth I is located. He is the main antagonist of the game, and his name is Hundred Eyes.
Tips for boss fights
The bosses in Nioh are the hardest part of the game, as each of them has its own characteristics. To effectively win boss fights, you need to become familiar with their weaknesses.
Derek the executioner
Derek is very slow, but his attacks are powerful. The battle with him takes place in two stages: at the first stage he is rather weak, but at the second stage he can cause a lot of problems. Therefore, during the battle it is recommended to keep your distance and be ready to dodge.
Onreki
Onreki Demon is simple and slow, but its attacks have a large radius. When preparing for a fight with him, you should choose a fast weapon and attack from the lower stance, blocking blows in a timely manner.
Important! Some of this monster’s attacks are so strong that they can throw the character off balance. The hero needs to constantly monitor the level of ki.
Hino-enma
Hino-enma is very fast, and her attacks paralyze the hero. It is better to stay as close to her in battle as possible, otherwise she starts throwing needles and daggers. In the Nioh PS4 version, the passage of the boss will be quite difficult, since it is not always possible to quickly dodge or block attacks on the controller.
Zero-gumo
Slow magic and fire attacks, as well as a talisman of protection from poison, will be useful in the fight against this boss. You should not stand in front of the spider — it is better to run around it to avoid capture and spitting.
Yuki-onna
Yuuki should be attacked when she has already made a series of her attacks. She is vulnerable to fire attacks, so fire amulets will come in handy here.
Okatsu
Fast and agile opponent, making swift and unexpected jerks. Despite this, her attacks are quite weak. In the third phase, Okatsu uses a guardian spirit, and if you change tactics, the fight can drag on.
Oda Nobunaga
This boss has almost no weaknesses. The fight will have to be fought by constantly dodging blows and using the right moments — his respite after a series of attacks or the moment when he loads his weapon.
Edward Kelly
The main rule of the fight with this boss is to avoid his deadly grips. They take the life of the hero and restore it to the villain. The most convenient moment for an attack will be a «window» during which Edward has no stamina.
