The Logitech G513 is a very good wired, full-size keyboard. This is an excellent choice for gamers, as it has customizable RGB backlighting, a comfortable wrist rest, and the tactile switches on our unit offer a light and responsive gaming experience. That said, there are linear, tactile, or clicky switches available as well. Unfortunately, while you can set macros in the companion software, they’re limited to the function keys, and there’s no onboard memory to save your settings. While this board used to be available with Romer-G Tactile and Linear switches, it’s now only available at most retailers with GX Blue, Red, and Brown switches.

The Logitech G513 is an excellent keyboard for gaming. The tactile switches on our unit offer a light and responsive gaming experience. The frame is made of plastic and aluminum, which feels sturdy and doesn’t exhibit any noticeable flex. It has RGB backlighting, which can be customized in the companion software. Unfortunately, the keycaps are made of ABS plastic that feels cheap and will attract oil from your fingertips. Also, while there are macro-programmable keys, they’re dedicated to the function buttons only.

The Logitech G513 is bad for use with a home theater PC. It doesn’t have wireless connectivity, so you’ll need to run a cable from the couch to the computer, which isn’t ideal if you’re worried about tripping over wires. Additionally, you need a separate mouse to navigate because it doesn’t have a trackpad.

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The Logitech G513 is available in two colors and in a wide variety of switch variants. While this board used to be available with Romer-G Tactile and Linear switches, it’s now only available at most retailers with GX Blue, Red, and Brown switches. You can see our unit’s label here.

Compared To Other Keyboards

The Logitech G513 is a wired, full-size keyboard, excellent for gamers. It looks and performs almost identically to the Logitech G413, but features a detachable wrist-rest and full RGB backlighting. The Logitech G513 and the Logitech G815 LIGHTSYNC RGB are quite different. Although they’re both full-size keyboards, the G815 is a low-profile mechanical keyboard, while the G513 has a more standard height. The G513’s Romer-G and the G815’s GL Tactile switches have fairly similar pre-travel distance and operating force, so they perform almost identically in terms of responsiveness. The main difference is that the low-profile switches have a shorter total travel distance. The G513 provides a better typing experience mainly because the G815’s keys wobble, and some people might not like the shorter travel because the keys bottom out sooner. The G513 comes with a nice wrist rest, but the G815 has dedicated media controls, dedicated macro keys, and onboard memory.

The Razer BlackWidow Elite is a better gaming keyboard than the Logitech G513, mainly because the Razer lets you reassign or set a macro to any key, while the Logitech is limited to the function keys only. There are some minor differences between Logitech’s Romer-G and Razer’s Orange switches, but overall, they perform very similarly for gaming. That said, the Razer provides a better typing experience because the tactile feedback is more distinct and not as mushy as the Logitech. The Razer has more extra features, like dedicated media controls and onboard memory, which the Logitech lacks.

The Logitech G512 Special Edition and the Logitech G513 are two very similar keyboards that perform almost the same, but the G513 is more comfortable as it has a detachable wrist rest. Other than that, the main difference is the type of switches. Both options use Logitech proprietary switches; the G512 is available with different GX switches, while the G513 uses Romer-G switches. The GX Blue Clicky switches on our G512 unit have a longer pre-travel distance and require more force to actuate than the G513’s Romer-G Tactiles. However, the G512 provides a better typing experience because the tactile feedback is more pronounced, and the longer pre-travel helps reduce typos. That said, the typing experience changes depending on which switch type you get. Other than that, the only other difference is that the G513 comes with a wrist rest.

For gaming, the Logitech G513 scores better than the Logitech G613 LIGHTSPEED mainly because the G513 has backlighting and the G613 doesn’t. We tested the G513 with Romer-G Tactile switches, the same ones as on the G613, so they perform almost identically in that regard. And even though the G513 is wired and the G613 is wireless, latency is only slightly higher on the G613 and shouldn’t be noticeable. The G513 feels better built and has a USB passthrough, while the G613 has dedicated media controls, multi-device pairing, and a column of dedicated macro keys.

The Razer Huntsman Elite and the Logitech G513 are both outstanding gaming keyboards. The main difference is that the Razer’s Linear Optical switches have a shorter pre-travel distance and much lower operating force than the Romer-G Tactile switches on our Logitech unit, making them feel more responsive. However, the Razer’s incredible responsiveness also makes it less ideal for general typing because the keys are overly sensitive, which leads to more typos. The Razer offers more features like dedicated media controls and onboard memory. Every key on the Razer is macro-programmable, while the Logitech only allows you to reprogram the function keys.

The Logitech G513 and the ROCCAT Pyro are wired gaming keyboards, but the Logitech has significantly lower latency. Also, the Logitech G HUB software is easier to use and is available on macOS. The Logitech G513 gaming keyboard’s build quality is good and is very similar to the Logitech G512 Special Edition and Logitech G413. The faceplate is made of aluminum, and there’s a plastic bottom frame that exhibits almost no signs of flex. The rubber incline feet are decent and grippy enough to keep the keyboard from sliding around. The Logitech G513 has a few nice features. There’s a USB passthrough that allows you to plug in other peripherals and charge devices. There’s also a ‘Game Mode’ key, which is essentially a Windows Lock key to prevent accidentally minimizing your screen during gaming sessions. Our unit uses Romer-G Tactile switches, which have a small tactile bump right before the actuation point. They have a very short pre-travel distance and require very little force to actuate, making them feel responsive and light. While this board used to be available with Romer-G Tactile and Linear switches, it’s now available with GX Blue, Red, and Brown switches only.

Typing on this keyboard feels good overall. Our unit uses Romer-G tactile switches, which offer a small tactile bump and feel like a mushier version of the Cherry MX Brown switches. It’s also available with clicky or linear switches. The keycaps feel solid and don’t wobble much, but are made of cheap ABS plastic and may get slippery over time due to the oil in your fingertips. This keyboard has good software support thanks to Logitech’s G HUB. You can customize the RGB backlighting and program your macros from here, and create unique profiles to suit your needs. Unfortunately, there’s no onboard memory to save your settings, and an account is needed if you want to use the Cloud Sync feature. There weren’t any software issues during testing, but many users online have reported various problems trying to use the Logitech G HUB software, including but not limited to startup issues, freezing, and connection issues with some devices. The Logitech G513 was designed to ease the previous generation G413 model into 2018’s feature expectations. With per-key RGB lighting and a new luxury wrist rest, it represented a mid-range step away from budget-focused decks and offered solid value for money for those after a taste of bigger things as a result. Whether those additions are enough to stand up against 2022’s latest releases, however, is a different story. 

We put the $149.99 / £149.99 Logitech G513 Carbon up to the test over a course of two weeks to see exactly where the full-sized deck sits when pitted against the best gaming keyboards on the market right now.

A full-sized keyboard for those who still want a streamlined desktop, the long, skinny form factor of the Logitech G513 keeps the full-size deck from feeling imposing. In fact, this feels remarkably small under the hands, thanks to slimline bezels and a short height overall. That meant I was still able to get a good mouse swing in without sacrificing the number pad with a TKL board, or the spacing and extra functionality of a 60% or 65% model. If you’re after a control panel of keys, but don’t want the heft and bulk associated with many gaming keyboards in this form factor, the G513 may be the answer to your prayers. 

That sizing also contributes to the sleek, sophisticated feel running throughout. From the aluminium base plate (with that classic brushed effect no less), to the deep black of the keycaps and glossy G logo imprinted in the top right corner, this certainly looks like a set of keys worth $150 / £150. 

If you’re after a control panel of keys, but don’t want the heft and bulk associated with many gaming keyboards in this form factor, the G513 may be the answer to your prayers.

While not attached by either clips or magnets, the premium wrist rest included in that price also delights. I found just the right level of give to this rest, with a soft memory foam base providing ample support for those heavier keys (more on that later), but never swallowing the palm in an overly spongy manner. My only concern here is the leatherette coating, which did cause some irritation during warmer weather.

There are some cable management options underneath the main deck, running through the plastic chassis, but I found these largely redundant considering the thick, unwieldy cable hardwired into the top, and the limited routing options provided.

The cable itself is a sign of the Logitech G513’s age, a chunky tether with a thick plastic coating that never seems to drop its packaging shapes and requires two free USB-A ports. Of course, one is to power your USB passthrough (located in the top right corner), but it’s still worth considering if you’re running low on free connections. This cable was a real drag on my setup overall and never seemed to settle in one neat position well.

Features

While the G513’s feature list may have been enough to set it apart from its competition back in 2018, things aren’t quite so simple these days. Of course, the $149.99 / £149.99 price tag is far from the upper brackets of gaming keyboard prices these days. However, with no onboard memory storage, macro options limited to the function row, and no dedicated media buttons, there are a few too many sacrifices to justify this full MSRP today. That said, this deck is regularly featured in gaming keyboard deals, so the features that are available will be far more suited if you find a sub-$100 / £100 sale. 

That’s because there’s still per-key RGB lighting, USB passthrough, and that all-important wrist rest to contend with. Not only that, but under the hood you’ll find Logitech’s durable GX switches, which manage to evade that scratchy feel sometimes felt in Cherry models that are plugged into the vast majority of decks.

On top of those switches, however, you’ll find a cheaper ABS keycap. In itself, that’s not necessarily a dealbreaker. Cheaper mechanical keyboards regularly switch out the luxury grip and durability of PBT caps for a more cost-efficient material. However, these keys are all proprietary, which means you won’t be able to swap them out too easily and will likely be stuck with the oily residue that can quickly build up.

I was, however, impressed with the RGB effects shining through those legends. I found them to be particularly vibrant, with a crisp, precise feel to each color and very little blur between wave effects. There is a little bleed around the bottom of the caps, but everything generally feels remarkably restrained yet bright.

Performance

The Logitech G513 performs admirably in-game even today. While its on-paper specs aren’t as impressive as a true speed demon like the Razer Huntsman V2, I was still able to maintain solid response times in everyday play and zip across the deck with a nice level of comfort. As mentioned above, macros are limited to the function row, which keeps them out of my usual reach realm. That meant certain cooldowns and combos were further out of reach than usual, requiring some muscle re-training during more intense moments. Of course, if this is your first time dabbling with making your keyboard your own that’s not going to be such a major flaw, but if you’re used to having each command within easy reach this is going to take some adjusting.

While speed and comfort during longer play sessions certainly did the G513 proud in my testing, the overall typing experience was less impressive. Of course, switch feel is all in the hands of the beholder, and a linear lover will always struggle to move over to the tactile side without a learning curve. However, I found the GX Brown switches in our test unit to be a little too heavy for comfortable typing. That’s because of the heavier actuation under the fingertip, combined with the slightly wider key spacing of this particular design. All of that made for a slower and slightly less accurate typing process, clocking in at 87WPM with 97% accuracy. I usually clock around 90WPM with full accuracy, and interestingly came far closer to that rate with the browns inside the new Logitech G413 SE. Compared to the buttery smoothness of the KeyChron Q2 (also tested with brown tactile switches), however, this is a particularly cumbersome set of clickers.

Should you buy the Logitech G513 Carbon?

The Logitech G513 Carbon is a solid piece of kit, even by 2022’s standards. Yes, you’re sacrificing some of the features we may take for granted just four years after this deck’s launch; onboard memory, wider programming options, and dedicated media controls, for example. However, if you’re looking for long-lasting comfort in a gorgeous, slimline profile, this is an excellent choice if on sale. We’ve seen this model dropping to just under $100 / £100 in the past, and would suggest holding out for a similar discount for the best value. I’d personally recommend opting for a linear switch if you’re going to be typing for long periods of time, as the GX Browns in our test model were a little fatiguing, though.  

If you don’t need that wrist rest and fancy a little more light in your life, we’d recommend checking out the HyperX Alloy Elite 2 instead. You’re getting full programmability for macros across the entire deck, dedicated media controls, and a full deck design without sacrificing USB passthrough — all for $129.99 / £129.99. If both are sitting at the same price, I’d recommend the majority of players opt for HyperX.

How we tested the Logitech G513 Carbon

I used the Logitech G513 Carbon for all my work and play over the last two weeks. During that time, I tested on Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Planet Coaster during standard everyday play (fine, I also dabbled in some Lawn Mowing Simulator), and stress-tested speed and response times in CS:GO as well. I used the deck for all my daily work and typing, clocking speeds and accuracy using TypingTest.com. I also tested against the HyperX Alloy Elite 2 as they fall within similar price points.

Indications for testing

13C-urea breath test

is a laboratory method for diagnosing helicobacteriosis (an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori ), based on the analysis of samples of air exhaled by the patient.

This non-invasive, highly sensitive and highly specific test is recommended for diagnostic purposes Helicobacter pylori , as well as confirmation of its eradication (destruction) after four weeks after the end of therapy.

Contraindications for testing

The 13C urease breath test is not performed on people who have had stomach surgery because the test result can be false positive.

The 13C urea breath test is age-restricted, only for patients over 12 years of age.

Preparing for the procedure

• The test should be performed in the morning on an empty stomach or no earlier than 6 hours after a light meal; You can drink small amounts of water.
• Food overload should be avoided the day before.
• The test can be performed no earlier than four weeks after the end of antibiotics, bismuth or sucralfate.

How does the procedure work 13C-urea breath test

1. Before starting the test, the patient is asked to drink 200 ml of orange juice (apple juice can be used in case of an allergy to oranges).
2. 5 minutes after taking an acidic drink, the exhaled air is collected in a special container.

What can affect the results

To a false positive result (when the test shows that the bacterium Helicobacter pylori is present, but in fact it is not) the following reasons can lead:

• achlorhydria — atrophy of the gastric mucosa;
• the presence of other spiral gastric bacteria with urease activity;
• violation of the rules for preparing for the study and the procedure for conducting it (including performing the test shortly after esophagogastroduodenoscopy, repeating the breath test on the same day).

Possible reasons for a false negative result (when the test shows the absence of Helicobacter pylori , but in fact this bacterium is present):

• use of antibiotics, proton pump inhibitors, bismuth drugs within the previous 2 weeks;
• conducting a breath test earlier than 4 weeks after the end of therapy aimed at eradication (destruction) Helicobacter pylori ;
• violation of procedure (collecting sample too early or too late after ingestion of the test solution, taking a second sample with a shallow exhalation). nine0006

The constant presence of H. pylori in the stomach is determined by a number of unique properties of this bacterium, which ensure its adaptation to the host environment, combined with relative «inaccessibility» for the human immune system.

The spiral shape and the presence of flagella allow bacteria to screw into the layer of gastric mucus like a corkscrew and adhere to the epithelial cells of the stomach. The main factor ensuring the survival of H. pylori in the acidic environment of the stomach is a bacterial enzyme — urease, which has a specific property — when interacting with water, break down urea to form carbon dioxide and ammonia. Ammonia neutralizes hydrogen ions and provides bacteria with local maintenance of comfort for it pH .

It is this property of H. pylori that underlies the 13C-urease breath test. The patient is asked to exhale into a special container, which is sealed. In this sample, the base content of ¹³ C (carbon 13) and ¹² C (carbon 12) will be determined. Then the patient drinks a special solution containing urea with carbon ¹³ C (it is non-radioactive and safe). If there is H. pylori in the stomach, then the bacterium breaks down urea, and carbon ¹³ C enters the bloodstream and is excreted through the lungs. Therefore, a second sample of exhaled air is collected and the content of ¹³ C is determined. If there is no bacteria in the stomach, then the second sample will not differ in carbon 13 content from the first sample.
