Bundesliga Team of the Season so far on FIFA 20!

bundesliga

The Bundesliga is back! And although the season hasn’t concluded quite yet, the coronavirus-enforced break in play did give us time to take stock… so we’ve teamed up with FIFA 20 to bring you the Team of the Season so far!

From Robert Lewandowski top-scoring with 25 goals to Erling Haaland finding the target at a barely fathomable rate of every 57 minutes, the Bundesliga has witnessed some dazzling star-turns after 25 games played.

bundesliga.com looks at the 20 players who have made FIFA 20’s Team of the Season so far…

Robert Lewandowski

Club: Bayern Munich
Position: ST
Rating: 99
2019/20 so far: 23 games — 25 goals — 3 assists

Lewandowski has continued to etch his name into the Bundesliga history books this season. The Polish striker scored in each of the first nine matches of the campaign — becoming the first player ever to do so — and has gone on to add 25 goals from his 23 appearances so far, helping Bayern sit atop the table before the Bundesliga’s restart.

Watch: All of Lewandowski’s goals so far in 19/20!

Timo Werner

Club: RB Leipzig
Position:
ST
Rating:
97
2019/20 so far:
25 games – 21 goals – 7 assists

Germany No.9 Werner has evolved his game this season under Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann to become a complete forward. While playing mostly from the left of his side’s attack, the 24-year-old has used his electric pace and clinical finishing to devastating effect to match his personal record for goals in a single top-flight campaign, as well as setting up his teammates to find the net themselves.

Jadon Sancho

Club: Borussia Dortmund
Position:
RF
Rating:
96
2019/20 so far:
23 games – 14 goals – 15 assists

Sancho has well and truly established himself as one of world football’s best young talents in 2019/20. On the back of his breakout 12-goal and 14-assist campaign last year, the 20-year-old forward has continued his incredible development and leads the Bundesliga for involvement in goals this season, as well as being both BVB’s top scorer and most proficient assister.

Watch: Jadon Sancho’s best Bundesliga moments

Joshua Kimmich

Club: Bayern Munich
Position:
CDM
Rating:
96
2019/20 so far:
24 games – 92 per cent pass completion – 4 assists

While being regarded as one of the best right-backs in world football, Kimmich has stated that his favourite position is in the centre of midfield – which is where he has become an immovable piece of Bayern’s title-chasing jigsaw under Hansi Flick. His range of passing and ability to read the game in front of him are just some of the reasons why the 25-year-old Germany star has become so key in the core of the record champions’ side.

Mats Hummels

Club: Borussia Dortmund
Position: CB
Rating:
96
2019/20 so far:
23 games – 90 per cent pass completion – 65 per cent duels won

After leaving reigning champions Bayern to re-join Dortmund in the summer, Hummels has re-established himself as a leader in the BVB defence this season. The 31-year-old quarterback of a centre-back remains one of the Bundesliga’s best passers, as well as being an aerially dominant defender, with his experience proving vital in Dortmund’s young backline.

Watch: Mats Hummels — The Quarterback

Erling Haaland

Club: Borussia Dortmund
Position:
ST
Rating:
95
2019/20 so far:
8 games – 9 goals – 1 assist

Despite only arriving in January, Haaland has been one of the stars of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season. After scoring a 23-minute debut hat-trick off the bench to beat Augsburg, the Dortmund striker became the first player in league history to score five in his first two games after a brace against Cologne. The goals have continued to flow for the Norway international at a barely fathomable rate of one every 57 minutes.

Marco Reus

Club: Borussia Dortmund
Position:
CAM
Rating:
95
2019/20 so far:
19 games – 11 goals – 5 assists

Despite injuries threatening to curtail Dortmund’s hometown hero once again, Reus has remained crucial to BVB’s goal-hungry attack in 2019/20. The 30-year-old club legend contributed to 10 goals in five games before the league’s pause in play, his experience beautifully complementing Dortmund’s youthfully exuberant attacking force which includes Sancho and Haaland.

Thomas Müller

Club: Bayern Munich
Position:
CM
Rating:
95
2019/20 so far:
25 games – 6 goals – 16 assists

Defining Müller’s position is one of football’s impossible tasks, but the 30-year-old Raumdeuter has certainly found his place in the Bayern attack this season. Müller’s league-high 16 assists have been the perfect support for Lewandowski to help the reigning champions score more goals than any other side so far this campaign.

Yann Sommer

Club: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Position:
GK
Rating:
94
2019/20 so far:
25 games – 97 saves – 5 clean sheets

Shot-stopping Switzerland No. 1 Sommer has been one of the biggest reasons behind Gladbach’s success this season. The Foals have galloped towards the top of the table despite a swashbuckling style that could leave them exposed, but Sommer has made the most saves of any goalkeeper in 2019/20 – including his incredible finger-tip stop against Bayern.

Watch: Sommer’s last-gasp save vs. Bayern!

Filip Kostic

Club: Eintracht Frankfurt
Position:
LM
Rating:
94
2019/20 so far:
23 games – 4 goals – 8 assists

Kostic’s tireless efforts for Frankfurt this season have allowed coach Adi Hütter to leave the left flank to the 27-year-old alone. The Serbian workhorse is as effective going forward as he is in keeping the ball out of his own box, and has become the Bundesliga’s model left-sided player in 2019/20.

Kai Havertz

Club: Bayer Leverkusen
Position:
CAM
Rating:
94
2019/20 so far:
22 games – 6 goals – 5 assists

After a quiet start to the season, normal service has resumed for Havertz since the turn of the year. The youngster has continued to float through opposition defences from his playmaker role in Leverkusen’s livewire attack, adding four goals and four assists from eight outings in 2020 alone. He may only be 20, but he has fast justified the «King Kai» nickname.

Watch: Kai Havertz — Leverkusen’s best since Ballack?

Serge Gnabry

Club: Bayern Munich
Position:
RW
Rating:
94
2019/20 so far:
23 games – 11 goals – 9 assists

In his second season with the record champions, Gnabry has confirmed his position as the prime replacement for retired pair Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, stealing quite some of the show back from Robbery. The 24-year-old has scored in double figures for the fourth straight season in the German top-flight, adding another string to Bayern’s already lethal attacking bow.

Dayot Upamecano

Club: RB Leipzig
Position:
CB
Rating:
93
2019/20 so far:
21 games – 91 per cent pass completion – 64 per cent duels won

Upamecano has been a cornerstone of Leipzig’s league joint-best defence this season despite wrestling with injury. The French powerhouse has combined his strength and speed with confidence and precision on the ball to lead Leipzig from the back in another impressive campaign.

Matthias Ginter

Club: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Position:
CB
Rating:
92
2019/20 so far:
22 games – 87 per cent pass completion – 61 per cent duels won

With Sommer supporting from behind, Ginter has been calmness personified in the centre of Gladbach’s title-chasing defence. While playing out from the back and dominating the air with 68 per of duels won, the Germany star — rightly a first choice for his country — has committed only nine fouls despite being the last line of defence for the Foals.

Alphonso Davies

Club: Bayern Munich
Position:
LB
Rating:
92
2019/20 so far:
21 games – 1 goal – 4 assists

Canadian sensation Davies has burst onto the Bundesliga scene as quickly as he bursts down the left wing for Bayern. Drafted in at left-back with injuries mounting up, the 19-year-old has now established himself as one of Europe’s most talented young wing-backs with improvements clear to see in every game he plays.

Watch: Davies under the tactical microscope

Lukas Hradecky

Club: Bayer Leverkusen
Position: GK
Rating: 91
2019/20 so far: 25 games – 75 saves – 8 clean sheets

Hradecky may not have the most intimidating frame, but what he lacks in bulk he more than makes up for in personality. The Slovak-born Finland No.1 would put his head where most others wouldn’t dare put their feet, and has dazzling reactions which lay the foundation for Havertz, Bailey et al to steal the headlines further forward.

Achraf Hakimi

Club: Borussia Dortmund
Position: RWB
Rating: 91
2019/20 so far: 25 games – 3 goals – 10 assists

Able to play left or right, in defence, midfield and attack, Hakimi is a jack of all trades and master of some. No «defender» has come close to his 10 assists this season. Already a back-to-back African Youth Player of the Year, that the Madrid-born Moroccan is only at the beginning of his career is a sobering thought.

Florian Niederlechner

Club: Augsburg
Position: ST
Rating: 89
2019/20 so far: 25 games – 11 goals – 6 assists

Niederlechner has arguably been the biggest surprise package in the Bundesliga this season. The 29-year-old last hit double figures in 2016/17, but has enjoyed a new lease of life at Augsburg. Timo Werner — with 21 goals — is the only German to have scored more goals. Are you watching, Jogi?

Martin Hinteregger

Club: Eintracht Frankfurt
Position: CB
Rating: 88
2019/20 so far: 22 games – 6 goals – 1 army

Hinteregger may be a centre-back but he is just as deadly in the opposition’s area, having scored six goals — as well as adding an assist — to make himself the most dangerous central defender in any of Europe’s five major leagues. Hinti Army? Tell me where to sign up!

Suat Serdar

Club: Schalke
Position: CM
Rating: 88
2019/20 so far: 18 games – 7 goals – 9 assists

Schalke have been up and down this season, but Serdar has been utterly regal in Royal Blue, scoring a team-high seven goals from midfield as well as averaging 11 miles covered per 90 minutes. Steel and silk — no wonder he is now a full Germany international.
