Ray Bradbury wurde 1920 in Waukegan, Illinois geboren. 1934 zog seine Familie nach Los Angeles, und schon bald entdeckte er seine Leidenschaft für das Schreiben. Mit den Erzählungsbänden «Die Mars-Chroniken» (1950) und «Der illustrierte Mann» (1951), vor allem aber mit «Fahrenheit 451» (1953) wurde er weit über die Grenzen der Science-Fiction hinaus bekannt. In den folgenden Jahren schrieb er neben weiteren Erzählungen zahlreiche Kriminalromane, Essays und Drehbücher.
Bradbury gilt heute als einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter der amerikanischen Gegenwartsliteratur. Er starb am 5. Juni 2012 in Los Angeles.

Ich habe mal wieder zu einem Klassiker gegriffen (ich musste für eine Bestellung den Mindestbestellwert erreichen und dieses hier bat sich zufällig an, stand auch schon länger auf meiner Wunschliste).
Die Thematik ist so simpel wie erschreckend: Bücher sind verboten, es gibt eine extra “Feuerwehr” für deren Verbrennung. Der Protagonist Guy Montag geht genau diesem Job mit Leidenschaft und Überzeugung nach — bis er eines Tages der Versuchung nicht widerstehen kann und einige Bücher mit nach Hause nimmt. „Nur mal gucken… irgendeinen Grund muss das Verbot ja haben.“
Ein einschneidendes Erlebnis für Guy Montag, das sein ganzes Leben auf den Kopf stellt.
Das Buch ist — sobald man sich eingefunden hat — sehr philosophisch und erschreckend aktuell, obwohl es schon 1953 erschienen ist.
Es gab so einige tiefsinnige Zitate, die wirklich zu Herzen gehen. Viele Aussagen, die heute aktueller denn je sind.
Ich war vor dem Lesen ein wenig unsicher. Die Thematik fand ich spannend, habe aber Probleme durch das Alter des Buches erwartet.
Zum Glück haben sich diese Befürchtungen nicht bewahrheitet, der Einstieg fiel mir ziemlich leicht. Das buch ist nicht allzu lang und ein paar wirklich ergreifende Szenen. Ich hätte mir tatsächlich eine Fortsetzung gewünscht.
Ein Stück Literaturgeschichte, das jeden zum Nachdenken anregen sollte

Obwohl ich normalerweise keine Rezensionen schreibe, zwingt mich die schlechte Bewertung des Buches zum Handeln!
Im Mittelpunkt des Romans steht ein kleines Mädchen, das einem «Feuerwehrmann» allmählich die Augen für die Begebenheiten der neuen Welt öffnet. Diese Beziehung ist fantastisch umgesetzt und hat mich tief in den Bann des Buches gezogen, ebenso wie das Verhältnis zwischen dem Feuerwehrmann und seiner Frau. Die Wandlung des Protagonisten hat mich sehr bewegt und das Ende lässt den Leser mit vielen Gedanken und offenen Fragen zurück — ein Buch also, das zum Nachdenken anregt.
Der letzte Rezensent sollte sich fragen, ob er das Buch tatsächlich verstanden hat, ich konnte es nicht mehr aus der Hand legen!
Für mich eine der Top-Dystopien, neben 1984, schöne neue Welt o.ä.
