Titled “test-version 0.001”, the build of Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded included a handful of original maps like Hollywood Holocaust as well as giving players the chance to play multiplayer tournaments with bots.

As reported by PC Gamer, leaker group x0r_jmp is also responsible for sharing a version of Duke Nukem Forever last May and in recent weeks, leaked cancelled 2D platformer Duke Nukem 4Ever, a prototype of hunting-based shooter Duke Nukem: Endangered Species as well as a pitch for an unmade Duke movie.

In a New Year’s message, the group wrote: ”It was a productive month for us, pushing out multiple releases in a row. Hopefully our efforts have made for an exciting December.”

“We have several new releases lined up for 2023, so watch this space for updates!”

In 2010,  Interceptor Entertainment announced it was working on a remake of Duke Nukem 3D. The fan-led project was soon given the blessing of Gearbox Software, who acquired the rights to the series in 2009.

However the following year, Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded was put on hold after the eventual release of Duke Nukem Forever. “Gearbox Software, told us that Duke Reloaded, had been getting too much attention from the press and the fans,” wrote project lead Frederik Schreiber in a 2012 blog post. “We were required to pull all media related to Reloaded, from our website and Facebook. We were also told not to talk about it anymore.”

Interceptor Entertainment was told it could still work on Reloaded by Gearbox, but the studio couldn’t tell them if it would “allow the game to be released.”

“I have to put the project on hold, until you can give us a definite answer,” replied Schreiber.

Last summer, the original co-founders of 3D Realms (the studio behind Duke Nukem and Prey) had a very public clash about the downfall of the studio, which was sold to Interceptor Entertainment in 2014.

“While our games like Max Payne and Prey were keeping the company afloat, Duke Nukem Forever was a constant money pit for the company and eventually killed the original 3D Realms,” wrote Scott Miller.

“Scott’s a clueless narcissist whose actions are what led to the Gearbox suits/friction that led to us losing 3D Realms & the Duke Nukem IP,” replied George Broussard. “Mind blowing the nonsense he spews.”

In other news, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda has promised 2023 will be one of “major evolution and transformation” as the company continues to focus on blockchain entertainment.

A remake build of 90s popular first-person shooter Duke Nukem 3D leaks online, giving a glimpse at what the upcoming remake might look like.

A playable build of Duke Nukem 3D‘s remake has leaked online, giving fans an early taste of what’s in store. For those who don’t know, Duke Nukem is one of the most popular first-person shooter video game series from the 90s, created by 3D Realms and published by various companies, most notably GT Interactive and Gearbox Software. The game series follows the adventures of the titular character, Duke Nukem, as he fights aliens and other foes. It is mainly known for its over-the-top violence and crass humor.

The original Duke Nukem game was released in 1991 as a 2D platformer and was followed by Duke Nukem 2 in 1993. However, it wasn’t until 1996’s Duke Nukem 3D that the series found true commercial success. The game’s use of fully three-dimensional environments and immersive first-person perspective was widely praised by gamers and critics alike.

In 2010, Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded, a remake of the original Duke Nukem 3D was revealed to be in development by Interceptor Entertainment. The updated version was supposed to use Unreal Engine 3, and the Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded’s official website also went up requesting donations to help complete the work. However, the project was put on hold shortly thereafter, with very little news coming out for the next ten years. Now, it is reported that the Duke Nukem 3D remake build has been leaked online by the group x0r_jmp. The build is currently labeled as «test-version 0.001» and includes a handful of maps, one of which is titled «Hollywood Holocaust.»

This isn’t the first time that x0r_jmp has given a substantial leak related to the Duke Nukem franchise — they have been doing it regularly. Most recently, the group leaked a 1996 build of Duke Nukem Forever that takes players back to the side-scrolling gameplay featured in Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem 2. The leaked build contains the game files for the original game, a level editor for the prototype, and patched versions of the game that have been created to work with more recent hardware.

Back in November 2022, it was also reported that a modder is reviving Duke Nukem 3D with new weapons, monsters, a revamped soundtrack, increased difficulty, and plenty of other new features. A fan-made remake of the Duke Nukem Forever game was released in December 2022, which is free to play and features the first chapter of the game. It is safe to say that a lot of work is being done by fans to keep the Duke Nukem franchise alive.

Duke Nukem 3D was released in 1996 for PC, with numerous ports being launched over the years.
