The exact release date for Diablo 3 Season 28 is currently unknown. Season 27 kicked off on 26th August 2022.

Season 23 was the shortest recent season at 15 weeks and a couple of days, while Season 26 ran for 18 weeks. Therefore, it is impossible to currently nail down the exact release date for Diablo 3 Season 28.

Our best guestimate is that Diablo 3 Season 28 has a release date of Friday, 13th January 2023. We also expect the PTR for the next big update to start on a Thursday in December, likely to be the 8th, and run for two weeks.

Every season of Diablo 3 starts at the same time. You can expect Diablo 3 Season 28 to start at 17:00 server time.

As with any other online title, there might be unexpected issues or extended maintenance when a new season gets underway, so keep this in mind while planning your game time in Sanctuary.

Diablo 3 Season 28 Theme & Content

Season 27, entitled «Light’s Calling», features Sanctified Powers, Sanctified items, Angelic Crucibles, and dozens of class/set item balance changes. It had an angelic theme from the High Heavens, but what about Diablo 3 Season 28’s theme?

Currently, it is too early to tell what the exact theme for Diablo 3 Season 28 will be. However, we know there should be a completely different theme, with season-exclusive items and mechanics.

Players can expect the Season’s Journey tasks and Conquests to complete. These are generally not linked to a theme. Check out the current season’s Conquest examples below:

  • Avarice/Avaritia — Complete a 50 million gold streak outside The Vault or its Inner Sanctum.

Lastly, we know there will be Haedrig’s Gifts to unlock Class Set items.

Back in Season 17, Blizzard began reintroducing cosmetic rewards from previous seasons for players who might have missed them the first time or didn’t play at the time.

For Season 28, this means cosmetic rewards from Season 16 are returning. This includes Helm and Shoulder slots for the Conqueror set, portrait frames, and the Wings of Lempo.

As in past seasons, two new End of Journey cosmetic rewards will be obtainable during Season 28. Expect a new cosmetic pet and more for the collectors out there.

We will endeavor to update this article once new information regarding the release date of Diablo 3 Season 28, alongside its content and theme, becomes available.

Diablo 3 Season 28 is inevitable.

When does Diablo 3 Season 27 end?

While we don’t know for certain when Season 27 of Diablo 3 will end, we can take an educated guess based on when the previous 26 seasons ended.

Recent seasons have ranged from 15 to 18 weeks in length so we expect Season 27 to run well into January 2023 before it ends. Based on our estimation of when Season 28 will start, we predict that Season 27 will end on or around Monday, January 9, 2023.

Not only would this be in line with Blizzard’s previous patterns, but it would also give them the opportunity to release Season 28 on a day considered unlucky for some – which is a very Diablo thing to do.

When does Diablo 3 Season 28 start?

Blizzard has not confirmed when the next season of Diablo 3 will begin. However, we suspect Season 28 will start on Friday, January 13, 2022.

Not only would this fit in with Blizzard’s usual timescales around Diablo 3 seasons, but it would also let them release a new season early in 2023 and take advantage of falling on a Friday the 13th date.

Of course, this is all speculation on our part, even with it being evidence-based reasoning. We’ll likely find out more when Blizzard releases its next PTR test for Diablo 3, likely in mid-December.

Of course, some seasonal features can come back around and make it into the main game, but as with every other season of Diablo 3, Season 28 will have its very own unique theme.

Currently, we don’t know what this will be, but we’re likely to know more about Season 28’s theme well before it arrives.

So that’s everything we know so far about Diablo 3 Season 28, from when it starts to its theme and limited-time game mode.

Creating a seasonal hero

To participate in a season, you need to create a seasonal hero. To do this, simply click the «Create» button in the hero selection window, check the box «Seasonal Hero» and then click «Create Hero». Seasonal heroes start from scratch. They have a separate shared chest, and until the end of the season, they cannot use out-of-season items, ingredients, or gold that is already on your record.

Ranking Tables

To open the Ranking Tables in Diablo III, click the Ranking icon in the lower right corner of the main menu (or press SHIFT + L). The tables show the struggle for rating achievements by regions, clans, friend lists, classes, etc. In addition, on the ratings page, you can follow the statistics of the players.

The Greater Rifts table shows the hardest level of the Greater Rifts the player has completed and what is their record for fastest completion. The Great Rifts table displays the stats for both seasonal and out-of-season heroes.

In the table of seasonal achievements, the rating is assigned by the number of achievement points and the one who earned them first. The total rating is calculated taking into account all regular achievements earned in the current season, and additional seasonal achievements. To participate, get yourself a seasonal hero and try to earn as many achievements as possible this season.

The conquest section shows who was the first to gain conquest in the current season. The results can be filtered: the first 1000 players in your region, players in your clan or among your friends. Conquests are much more difficult than regular achievements. This rating is updated every season.

During the seasons, you can earn decorative items for your collection — pets, portraits, wings, flags, etc.

At the end of the season, all seasonal heroes will be moved to out-of-season heroes. All items, gold and materials obtained by the seasonal hero will be available to the rest of your heroes. Items that you had in your seasonal inventory will be sent to you via in-game mail. And to participate in the next season, you will need to create a new seasonal hero — and start all over again!

If you want to play in a season but don’t plan to create a new hero, the seasonal respawn option allows you to bring an existing hero into the current season. To do this, you can use the «Rebirth» button on the character selection screen after choosing one of your heroes. This hero will be upgraded to a seasonal hero, leveled to 1, and all of their items and stash contents will be mailed to your non-seasonal heroes.

The theme of the new season

The souls of the heroes defeated in the endless struggle against the forces of evil cry for help! Sensitive Nephalem will be able to listen to the petrified cries of the dead and tune in to the last moments of the agony of the dead. Will these Nephalem be able to heed the whispers of redemption for fallen heroes and survive the Echoing Nightmares? Or will they forever be trapped among the fallen nephalem? Only time will tell…

The Second Nightmare will be added to the game in Season 26. This is the first theme of the season and represents a new aspect of the game. In the Second Nightmare, players will participate in a tense, fast-paced and increasingly difficult event in which the main goal is to survive in battle for as long as possible. We were inspired to create it by Orek’s warning: «Many Nephalem have come here before you, but few have made it through the trials.» In the Second Nightmare, you can find out what happened to the failed Nephalem.

Seasonal Decoration Rewards

Beginning with Season 17, we’re giving players the chance to unlock rewards they might have missed before. Season 26 will unlock the rewards originally available in Season 14. In addition to the boots and leg armor of the exclusive Conqueror Set, you’ll also find a set of Tal Rashi themed portrait frames. Nephalem who wish to embody the spirit of justice will be welcomed with a flag in the style of our beloved archangel. Remember: justice is beyond jurisdiction!

We also understand that the participants of previous seasons also want something new. As a reward for completing the Season Journey (these rewards were first introduced in Season 17), players will still be able to receive two decorative items, as before. Complete the Fall of the Nephalem challenges and complete Season 26’s Season Journey Guardian quests to earn portrait Rakkis’ Memory and pet Toothy Warrior .

Items

Barbarian

  • Legacy Rekor (four-item bonus): uses 10% more damage to the skill «Furious Dash» . For every 1% of the hero’s health missing, Spear of the Ancients’ damage is increased by 2%.
  • Legacy of Rekor (six-piece bonus): hits with Furious Dash and Weapon Throw increase the damage of your next Spear of the Ancients by 5500% and fire multiple spears near the target. The effect is cumulative. Each spear throw consumes up to 5 stacks of this effect.
  • Law of Arreat: Damage dealt by Throw Weapon and Spear of the Ancients is increased by 150-200%.
    • Throw Weapon skill replenishes 25 50 units rage depending on the distance to the affected enemy. The amount of rage generated can be up to 200 more.
    • Spear of the Ancients skill returns up to 25 50 pts. rage depending on the distance to the enemy, while the rage limit returns to the base maximum value.
  • 300th Spear: Weapon Throw and Spear of the Ancients damage is increased by 150-200%. The attack speed of the Throw Weapon skill is increased by 200%.
  • Skular’s Salvation: Spear of the Ancients’ damage dealt is increased by 150-200%. If Spear of the Ancients with the Boulder Toss rune hits up to 5 enemies, its damage is increased by 100%.

Developer Comment: We’ve made additional buffs to Throw Weapon to expand the range of progression options with the Rekor Legacy rework. We’ve also updated the Law of Arreat to allow players to generate even more Fury.

Developer Comment: We’ve reworked Legacy Rekor to make this set more unique. We felt that the Barbarian’s ranged attacks would naturally complement dashes with the Legacy Rekor set.

Crusader

  • Summoner’s Thorns: Increases the attack speed of Punish and Slash by 100%. These skills deal damage equal to 67,500% of Thorns Effect.
  • Norvald’s Zeal: while Steed and for 5 sec. after it ends, the crusader’s damage is increased by 200%.

Developer Comment: Norvald’s Zeal proved too effective when paired with various sets. We decided to nerf it, but to compensate, we made the Summoner’s Thorns set more useful.

Monk

  • All Mystery allies summoned by the 6-item bonus from Inna’s Mantra now refresh their duration on each attack.
  • Fiery Ally Mysterious Ally: Smaller allies can now pass through enemies.
  • Earthen Ally Mysterious Ally:
    • The Earth Ally stone’s movement speed has been increased. Stones always return to the player regardless of the number of monsters on the screen.
    • Weaken Projectiles no longer slows Earth Ally gems.

Developer Comment: We’ve made improvements to Mysterious Ally to make this skill more usable.

  • Staples of Lesser Gods: enemies hit by Storm Strike for 5 sec. take 150-200% more damage from the Monk’s Mysterious Ally.

Developer Comment: We’re happy with the gameplay of Monks with the Inna’s Mantra set, but the fire-based progression was too powerful. Lesser God Bonds no longer provide a bonus to Fiery Ally.

Bug Fixes

  • Players can no longer change difficulty while the Recurring Nightmare is active.
