Sherlock Holmes? Testament? Soll dies gar sein letztes Abenteuer sein? Oder verhält es sich mit dem wohl berühmtesten Privatdetektiv der Welt wie immer und nicht alles ist so leicht durchschaubar, wie es auf den ersten Blick anmutet? Tatsächlich. Gut kombiniert, Watson!
Die Figur des Privatdetektivs Sherlock Holmes erlebt gerade ihre Renaissance. Auf der großen Leinwand in Form der sehr actionreichen Verfilmungen von Guy Ritchie und am TV-Schirm zeichnet die BBC für eine zwar um über ein Jahrhundert in die Gegenwart versetzte, aber dennoch werkgetreuere Adaption verantwortlich. Das Videospiel Das Testament des Sherlock Holmes nimmt sich aber weder Anleihen an der Darstellung von Robert Downey Jr. noch an der nicht minder genialen Darbietung von Benedict Cumberbatch, sondern greift auf die Inkarnation des Romanhelden durch Jeremy Brett zurück, der diesen in nicht weniger als 41 TV-Filmen verkörperte. Diesem gleicht die Hauptfigur auch wie aus dem Gesicht geschnitten.
Sein letzter Fall
Eigentlich sollte Sherlock Holmes ja nur einen Einbruch, bei dem angeblich ein wertvolles Collier gestohlen wurde, aufklären. Der Detektiv entdeckt dank seiner unerreichten Kombinations- und Beobachtungsgabe, dass sich das Schmuckstück noch immer im Raum befindet und er überreicht es wieder seinem rechtmäßigen Besitzer. Dieser identifiziert die Perlenkette jedoch als Fälschung und beschuldigt Holmes, das Original gegen jene ausgetauscht zu haben. Durch die Plumpheit der Fälschung liegt der Verdacht nahe, dass man den Detektiv in eine Falle gelockt hat.
Als dann das Ermittler-Duo Holmes/Watson vom Bischof von Knightsbridge zu Hilfe gerufen wird, der Würdenträger bei dessen Eintreffen aber nur noch als misshandelte und verstümmelte Leiche angetroffen wird, spitzt sich die Lage zu und Holmes gerät zunehmend ins Fadenkreuz…
Vorab, das Spiel geizt nicht damit, die Atmosphäre durch reichlich Düsternis zu verdichten und drückt dem Spieler schon mal die eine oder andere Grausamkeit aufs Auge.
So wird am ziemlich wild zugerichteten Bischof jedes Detail haarklein unter die Lupe genommen und zerfetztes Gewebe, verbrannte Haut und abgetrennte Körperteile füllen eher weniger schmückend den Bildschirm aus; sehr zartbesaitete Seelen sollten also vor Spielgenuss den Lebensmittelgenuss eventuell ein wenig einschränken.
Die tanzenden Männchen
Gesteuert wird der Protagonist (je nach Situation Sherlock oder Watson, meistens vom Spiel vorgegeben) standardmäßig aus der Verfolgerperspektive. Alternativ kann auch von der Third-Person in die First-Person-Ansicht gewechselt werden. Auf dem PC ist sogar eine klassische Adventure-Ansicht mit fix positionierter Kamera und Point-and-Click-Steuerung verfügbar, wirklich praktisch ist diese aber nicht. Alle Objekte mit denen interagiert werden kann werden mit einer blauen Lupe markiert, sobald man sich ihnen nähert. Hat man sie bereits betrachtet oder benutzt, wird die Lupe grün. Dadurch behält man einen sehr guten Überblick und verpasst keine Gegenstände.
Sollte dies doch vorkommen, hilft der sogenannte „Sechste Sinn“, der noch nicht untersuchte Gegenstände hervorhebt.
Was das Spiel außerdem auszeichnet, ist die Vielseitigkeit der Rätselarten. Die Kombinationsrätsel (benutze dies mit jenem) sind großteils recht simpel und logisch gehalten. Gegenstände im Inventar müssen nur sehr selten miteinander kombiniert werden. Des Weiteren gibt es einige Deduktionsrätsel. Hierbei werden in Watsons Buch – das unter anderem auch dazu dient, alle von ihm transkribierten Gespräche noch einmal nachzulesen – verschiedene Beobachtungen durch Auswahl von Antwortmöglichkeiten miteinander kombiniert. Dadurch ergeben sich wiederum neue Schlüsse, die es ebenfalls miteinander in Verbindung zu setzen gilt; so lange, bis eine Conclusio daraus gezogen wird. Dieser Kniff kommt dem Kombinationsgenie von Sherlock Holmes wohl so nahe wie selten ein Spiel zuvor. Schade, dass sie so selten eingesetzt wurden und die Antworten nicht immer auf Anhieb logisch sind, weil sie sich zu sehr ähneln.
Durch einiges herumprobieren kommt man aber früher oder später immer auf die Lösung – auch wenn man sich dadurch wohl eher wie der meist überforderte Kumpane Watson vorkommt.
Schon um einiges kniffliger geben sich da die reinen Logikrätsel. Oftmals gilt es diese zu lösen, um die Öffnungsmechanismen von Geheimverstecken oder Tresoren zu aktivieren. Damit man an den teilweise wirklich verzwickten, aber durchaus lösbaren Rätseln nicht verzweifelt, können alle reinen Denksportaufgaben nach einigen erfolglosen Versuchen (für die weitere Handlung konsequenzlos) übersprungen werden. Lediglich das Achievement kann sich Holmes dann in die pomadisierten Haare schmieren.
Der blaue Karfunkel
Die liebevolle und detailreiche Grafik fängt das Flair des viktorianischen Englands ausgezeichnet ein. Knackscharfe Texturen zieren die zahlreichen Objekte, die sich wie aus einem Guss in die Umgebung einfügen und nur selten platziert wirken. Sowohl die Umgebung als auch die Charaktere sind eine Augenweide.
Das Testament des Sherlock Holmes kann sich getrost zu den hübschesten Adventures überhaupt zählen.
Das was es auf die Augen gibt, entschädigt dafür, dass die Ohren nicht ganz an diesem Vergnügen teilhaben können. Die Musikuntermalung ist solide, allerdings nicht immer richtig eingesetzt. So begleitet uns in einem Level, in dem wir uns in einem Gefängnis aufhalten, ständig dieselbe treibende Musik; auch bei normalen Gesprächen, Rätseln und anderen dafür eher unpassende Gelegenheiten. Die Synchronsprecher verrichten ihren Job gut, lediglich die Kinder (die auf dem Dachboden ein Tagebuch ihres Vorfahren Watson finden und so den eher unnötigen Rahmen für die Geschichte bilden) sind eine Beleidigung fürs Hörorgan.
Die PC-Version genießt neben der zusätzlichen Perspektive auch noch den Vorteil etwas hübscherer und flüssiger Grafik und eines im Gegensatz zur Konsolenvariante automatischen Speichersystems.

Fazit
Das Testament des Sherlock Holmes schafft den Spagat zwischen einer interessanten Story und Rätseln, die für Einsteiger machbar und für Fortgeschrittene noch fordernd genug sind. Leider verrennt sich die Inszenierung im dritten Akt teilweise ein wenig in Unglaubwürdigkeit; das nicht immer ganz nachvollziehbare Verhalten von Holmes während des gesamten Abenteuers ist hingegen der schrulligen Romanfigur geschuldet, die ihre Mitstreiter ebenfalls stets bis zuletzt im Dunklen tappen lässt. Alle Sherlock Holmes-Fans (über 16) sollten sich sofort in die nächste Droschke setzen und beim Spielehändler ihres Vertrauens das virtuelle Ticket in die Baker Street 221b lösen!

Holmes und Watson stehen vor einem neuen Fall, in dem der berühmte Detektiv selbst der Hauptverdächtige ist: Ein vorlauter Zeitungsbericht rückt Sherlock ins Visier der Ermittler. Hat etwa der fiese Professor Moriarty eine falsche Spur gelegt? Mit Lupe und Pinzette, Grips und Notizbuch geht Ihr der Sache auf den Grund: Per London-Karte klickt Ihr Euch zu den Schauplätzen des Verbrechens und anschließender Geschehnisse, die Ihr abwechselnd mit Holmes und Watson durchstöbert. Es gilt, Beweise zu sichern, Zeugen zu befragen, Mechanismen (z.B. für Tresor oder Geheimfach) zu überlisten und schließlich die korrekten Schlüsse zu ziehen.
Dazu müsst Ihr die Beweisstücke auch im Labor untersuchen und mittels Multiple-Choice-Diagramm den Ablauf der Dinge rekonstruieren gar nicht so leicht! Dank Interaktions-Icons sind alle wichtigen Elemente der Umgebung leicht auffindbar, für die Lösung müsst Ihr jedoch jeden noch so kleinen Hinweis beachten: Auf eine Hilfefunktion wurde verzichtet, was stellenweise zu Hängern führen kann.
Auch bei den Minispielen ist Grips und gutes Auge gefragt: Ihr fertigt Dietriche nach Vorlage an, löst aufwändige Schach- und Schalterrätsel. Manche Aufgaben wirken aber in die Handlung gepresst, da sie nicht immer einleuchtend, manchmal sogar abwegig sind. Weil Ihr jedoch auf wenige Örtlichkeiten begrenzt seid, bleibt die Übersicht gewahrt. Grafisch erwarten Euch prachtvolle Szenarien, die allerdings wenig animierte Details und einige hakelige Winkel besitzen da muss man den Helden schon mal hin- und herdrehen, damit das begehrte Interaktions-Icon aufleuchtet. Klamauk und Action der Kinofilme sind hier nicht präsent.
Oliver Ehrle meint: Mit begehbaren Schauplätzen, Teamwork, Laborrecherche und Ablaufdiagramm besitzt dieser Fall einige Elemente, die Hobby-Detektive reizen. Leider gibt es auch reichlich Trial&Error-Rätsel, bei denen selbst die Aufgabenstellung nicht immer ersichtlich ist erst durch Herumprobieren kommt Ihr der Sache näher. Die Grafik wirkt auf den ersten Blick klasse, birgt aber für ein Holmes-Spiel ungewöhnlich viele Ungereimtheiten wie falsche Spiegel- und Schatteneffekte.
Zusammen mit den steifen Protagonisten und sachlichen Dialogen kommt die Atmosphäre daher zu kurz.
