Dark Souls Remastered guide: Blighttown map
Dark Souls Remastered’s Blighttown is all kinds of awful. The enemies are equal parts dangerous, aggressive, and annoying. The ones that aren’t breathing fire are probably trying to poison you. And it’s not just the enemies — the design of Blighttown often feels likes it’s actively trying to kill you. It’s full of narrow walkways, blind corners, and precipitous drops. Once you’re past that, you’ll enter a poisonous swamp.
But Blighttown is deceptive. Because of how challenging it is, it feels both more important and more complicated than it is. Blighttown exists to give you items and to convey you to the next Bell of Awakening. Don’t let the confusion or the challenge distract you from that. There is a path that leads (through a lot of twists and turns) from the first bonfire to the second and, from there, straight to Quelaag and the second bell. Everything else — every other branch and side path — is there to give you an item. Once you have those items, you can ignore those paths and move on.
We’ve broken both the map and our description of Blighttown into two parts: The upper walkways (with so, so many ladders) and the ground level. These approximately correspond to the two bonfires in the area and how you’ll make your way through it.
Blighttown upper levels

The bonfire among the upper walkways is shortly after entrance from The Depths. It’s in a good position to let you regroup after the initial gauntlet of enemies and give you a safe place to examine the items you picked up along the way.
Between the entrance and the bonfire, you can grab both the Shadow Armor set — a lightweight armor with better than average poison resistance — and an Iaito — a katana with a sweeping swing that deals bleed damage. Nearby, you can also pick up the Eagle Shield — a very stable and lightweight great shield — and some Blooming Purple Moss Clumps.
Further down toward the ground level, you’ll also be able to pick up the Wanderer Armor set, a slightly heavier armor set that still boasts a respectable poison resistance. (Notice the theme of dealing with poison yet?)
Once you get down to the ground level, the second bonfire is in a tunnel. You can continue past the second bonfire to find an elevator to carry you up to Blighttown’s other set of walkways. This area (which does not connect to the first) has more useful items to grab. You’ll find more armor — the sorcerer-flavored Crimson Armor set (which is also poison-resistant), the Remedy sorcery (which heals poisoning), and an ever-useful Fire Keeper’s Soul. When you continue to the very top of this path, you’ll be able to head into The Valley of Drakes.
Blighttown lower levels

Blighttown’s lower level is a literal slog.
The mud slows you to a crawl and poisons you rapidly. It’s a deadly combination — unless you’re prepared. Head back to the Undead Asylum to retrieve the Rusted Ring. (Do this. Now. We’ll wait.) You’ll need to use the Undead Asylum F2 West key from Firelink Shrine to unlock the door on the second floor of the Northern Undead Asylum. You’ll (finally) be able to grab the ring from the broken staircase.
We also recommend equipping the Poisonbite Ring that you can purchase from Oswald of Carim in Undead Parish for 15,000 souls.
There are a few items scattered around that make exploring worth your time — especially the Titanite. And the Giant Leeches on the right side of the map above are a great way to farm for Green Titanite. But, once you’ve explored every part of the ground floor and gotten every goodie, it’s time to move on.
The bottom floor of Blighttown connects to two other areas. You can follow the tree roots up into the Great Hollow or you can head up the hill in the bottom left of our map to enter Quelaag’s Domain and ring the second Bell of Awakening.
