Do the Anri’s questline step in Smouldering Lake BEFORE killing High Lord Wolnir, otherwise you won’t be able to continue Anri’s questline.

Dark Souls 3 — how to complete every NPC quest in one playthrough

Dark Souls isn’t a series that gives its secrets up easily, and that extends to its myriad NPC side quests. It’s entirely possible — and surprisingly easy — to get through the game without meeting a single non-story-critical NPC, with many characters only making their presence felt once you’ve liberated them from some distant, rarely-visited corner of the map.

NPCs tend to come in two forms: those that become merchants at Firelink Shrine once encountered, and those that begin journeying across Lothric. Almost all NPCs, however, feature their own (often obtuse) quest lines that, once completed, can elicit a whole range of rewards, from exotic weapons and armour, to special lore moments and even secret endings.

[SPOILERS!] Dark Souls 3 vs Dark Souls 1 Graphics Comparison

Unfortunately, in most cases, completing an NPCs side quest can be a real challenge. It’s incredibly easy to miss the trigger points that move each NPCs side quest forward as you explore the world, and even easier to do something that completely breaks the progression of these quest lines without even realising it. Often, you’ll need to visit specific locations and accomplish certain tasks in a very precise order to further a character’s story arc.

Progressing a single NPC’s quest line through to its conclusion can be a daunting task, but attempting to juggle the interlocking quest lines for each of the the dozen or so NPCs in the game can be utterly nightmarish. The idea, of course, is that you’ll learn from the mistakes you make on your first Dark Souls III play-through and try something different on your subsequent runs.

If you want to get as much out of a single-play through as possible, though, we’re here to help. This guide walks you through the steps you’ll need to complete in order to conclude every NPCs quest line in a single run and claim the related rewards. Simply keep this checklist to hand, and ensure that you’ve completed all the listed tasks before moving onto the next boss battle.

A few important notes on this guide

• Due to the interlocking nature of most NPC side quests, it’s tough to discuss them without mentioning future events. You will find spoilers in this guide.

• A handful of quests — namely those of Anri of Astora, Yuria of Londor, Irina of Carim and the Fire Keeper — feature ‘good’ and ‘dark’ variants, with dramatically different conclusions. In these instances, you’ll only be able to complete one path per play-through, but we’ve highlighted the points that quests diverge so that you can make a choice on how to proceed.

• In some cases, side quest progression is dependent on a huge number of barely-understood variables. We’ve included alternative routes for those quests known to be a little finicky.

• Although Dark Souls III offers a certain degree of freedom in terms of how you tackle its challenges, we’ve chosen a very specific route through the game to ensure that NPC side quests aren’t inadvertently broken. Other routes are possible, but it’s unwise to deviant from our plan unless you know exactly what you’re doing. As such, the following NPC mini-guide assumes that you’re tackling the game’s bosses in this order:

• Vordt of the Boreal Valley (Lothric Castle)

• Curse-Rotted Greatwood (Undead Settlement)

• Crystal Sage (Road of Sacrifices)

• Deacons of the Deep (Cathedral of the Deep)

• Abyss Watchers (Farron Woods)

• Yhorm the Giant (Profane Capital)

• Pontiff Sulyvahn (Irithyll of the Boreal Valley)

• Aldrich, the Devourer of Gods (Anor Londo)

• Dancer of Boreal Valley (Lothric Castle)

• Dragonslayer Armour (Lothric Castle)

• Lothric, Younger Prince (Lothric Castle)

• Soul of Cinder (Firelink Shrine)

• Finally, if you’re following this guide and can’t find the NPC you need in its listed location, try forcing progression by warping in an out of the area a few times. If that doesn’t work, try visiting their last known haunt to ensure that you’ve completed the steps required for them to move on.

On the next page we’ll take you through everything you need to do before you fight Vordt of the Boreal Valley.

QUEST NAVIGATION:

1. Sigvard of Katharina

2. Henri of Astora

3. Sirris of the Sunless Lands

4. Yuria’s quest from Londor

5. Irina from Karim

Sigvard of Katarina

You will meet this character throughout most of the game. The hero is wearing the heavy armor of the Knights of Katarina, which you can get later.

I. You will meet Sigvard for the first time in the Undead Settlement, in the tower, on top of which there is a giant with a bow (you have already felt all the charm of his arrows earlier).

Below is a strong ice rival, from which the Sword of Irithyll falls. Siegvard himself will come down to you on the elevator as soon as you enter the tower.

Talk to him a few times (after talking to any character, don’t forget to re-interact with him until he starts repeating the same line) and stand on the lift platform.

There are two elevators here, now you need the one that goes up. As the platform goes up, you will notice that there is an extra floor in the middle of the path. Timing the moment and jump there, then go outside.

Sigvard of Katarina will be waiting for you sitting on the edge — talk to him. Now go down to the courtyard to the fire demon and get ready for battle. Siegvard will join you, so wait until he hits the enemy a few times so that he switches to our friend.

For victory, Sigward will give you a Sigbrow, an item that can be exchanged with Pickle P for the Sun Warrior Armor. Talk to him a few more times to get two new gestures.

II. The second time you will meet Sigvard in the Temple of the Deep. After the Path of Sacrifices, do not go to the location of the Catacombs if you want to complete the Siegvard chain, but go to the Temple.

In front of the entrance to the chapel, on the left, there is a well. It turns out that Sigvard is sitting inside, whom Patchwork threw there, having previously stolen his armor.

There are two options to return them:

1) Buy the key to the tower in Firelink Shrine for 20000 souls and enter it. You will be trapped — Patchwork will slam the door behind you. Get out and find the rogue in the Temple. Here you can buy Siegvard’s armor from him.

2) While in the Temple of the Deep, raise all the bridges on the lower level where the two giants stand. Head upstairs and find Siegvard standing at the entrance to one of these bridges (actually, it will be Patchwork in disguise).

Go to the bridge, and then Patchwork will lower it. To find him and exact your revenge, follow the same path to the vaults of the chapel (for a full description, see All the Covenants and Their Locations guide, Rosary’s Fingers).

Finally, kill the offender and take the armor. If you put them on now, the chain will stop. To continue it, return to the well and give the armor to Sigvard.

III. The third time, Siegvard will be waiting for you in the kitchen of Anor Lodno. The way there lies through a sewer full of spider women. Here you must meet Siegvard before killing the Giant Yhorm. Talk to him.

IV. In the location of the Dungeons of Irithyll you will find Sigvard from Katarina in a cage; At the lowest levels, where a standing giant sleeps, and under him a lot of rats run. Talk to Sigvard through the bars.

To save him, you need a key, which is in one of the chests in the sewer near the giant.

The path to Siegvard Prison itself lies through another location called the Profaned Capital. There are two paths from it: one to Yhorm, and the other to the church with toxic waters. After passing through the wooden extension, jump into the water and run to the vertical stairs.

Climb up, then go left to the regular stairs. Here, be careful and don’t miss the tiled roof, where you can easily jump. On it you will be waiting for a nominal enemy-mage. Kill him and, with a running start, jump in the window. The straight path will take you to Sigvard’s cage.

Now, if you haven’t killed Aldrick yet, Sigvard of Katarina will join you in the fight against Yhorm the Giant, after which his chain ends. The armor of the Knight of Katarina will lie by the throne if you did everything right.

Henri of Astora

This NPC is an essential character to the plot of Dark Souls 3, but can still be easily missed. Henri’s gender changes in a mirror to yours, but apart from the conversion, this does not bring any significant difference.

The fate of this hero can affect the ending of the game, and the Usurpation of Fire (4th variant of the final) cannot be performed without him.

To Usurp Fire, first find Yoel of Londor, who can be found near the first bonfire in Undead Settlement. He will be among the bodies of his fellow pilgrims — talk to him, and then go to the Firelink Shrine.

Yoel will be waiting for you, and not empty-handed. The pilgrim will offer you to level up — do this five times (you will have five dark marks in your inventory).

Before each promotion, you must die at least 2 times, keep in mind. After that, Yoel will die, and the equally mysterious Yuria from Londor will appear next to his corpse. After talking with her, go to the location of the Way of Sacrifices.

Your first time there, you will meet two knights: Henri and Horace. Talk to her/him here and continue your journey.

The next time (after killing the Deacons of the Deep) Anri will be waiting for you in the Firelink Shrine, where he will tell you that he is heading to the Catacombs of Karthus. Already there you will find Henri twice and once Horace. For the first time, Anri will stand in one of the corridors, next to which a wheel of bones rolls.

The second is by the long wooden bridge behind the stalagmites.

You will find Horace nearby, going down the same bridge (you must first break it). Having dealt with the crossbow and the snake-driller from below, find a small passage where Horace stands. Kill him and return to Anri.

Don’t tell her/him about what happened, next time you will meet in Irithyll of the Cold Valley before the battle with Pontifex Sullivan around the fire in Yorshka Church.

Go back to Firelink Shrine and get Yuria to say that the spouse is ready for the ritual. Go to Anor Londo and use the spinning bridge tower to reach the tomb.

Inside you will meet a pilgrim who will give you a ritual sword. Go ahead and watch the cutscene — Anri’s quest ends here.

But Horace may not be killed, which leads to other plot twists and turns:

1) In this case, neither Yoel nor Yuria is important for the lane progression, so «power drain» is not necessary.

After talking with Anri at the campfire in Yorshka Church, do not return to the Temple of Fire, but go to the statues that are standing there in one of the corners. Stand in front of them and use the Wave gesture, after which a Londor spy will come out from behind the statues.

Killing him will force Yuria to leave you forever, therefore, no one will kidnap Anri and the ritual in the tomb will not occur. In Anor Londo, go to the boss Aldrick. In front of him, use the summon mark (Anri’s sign is a stone) to help Anri kill him in her world (you will be a phantom). Returning to the Temple, take Anri’s sword from Ludlet of Courland.

the place to fight him. On the spot you will find the grave of Henri and the living Horace, who will immediately attack you.

3) After killing Horace and telling Anri about it, at the place of the battle with Horace you will find his grave and the living Anri, who will attack you.

Choices 1, 2, and 3 close the 4th ending of Usurpation of Fire, but somehow complete Anri’s storyline.

Sirris of the Sunless Lands

This is one of the active heroes of Dark Souls, whom you can help in a difficult moment. As with other quests, this chain can be easily overlooked.

The first time the character visits the Firelink Shrine after your conversation with Anri in the Road of Sacrifices. The next one is after issuing the Dreamer’s Ashes to the servant of the Temple, which can be found behind a hidden wall, which is next to the Watchdogs of Farron covenant. In the future, Sirris can be summoned by you in battles with the Guardians of the Abyss, Princes, Dragonslayer Armor and Deacons of the Deep.

To promote her chain, you must strictly follow this list :

I. You cannot join the Fingers of Rosaria covenant, otherwise Sirris will become your enemy and will attack you at the first meeting.

II. After returning Dreamer’s Ashes to the maid, speak with Sirris to receive a new gesture, Darkmoon Allegiance, which will allow you to join the Darkmoon Blades covenant.

III. On the bridge leading to Irithyll of the Coldvale, kill the Sullivan Behemoth and return to the bonfire. Restart the game or teleport to Firelink Shrine a few times so that Sirris’s summoning sign will appear at the end of this bridge. Agree to help her and defeat the red phantom Creighton the Wanderer. In gratitude, she will give you (at the Temple) a Consecrated Panzerbreaker and a Silver Cat Ring.

To completely defeat Creighton, you must kill him in your world as well. He will invade you at the cemetery of Iritilla, not far from the Church of Yorshka. After that, you can get his armor on the same bridge where you fought the Sullivan Behemoth.

IV. After defeating Aldrick, return to the battlefield with the Cursed Great Tree. Activate her sign and together kill the Righteous Knight Godric. Sirris will then swear eternal service to you in Firelink Shrine. Take the Shield of Sunset from the tomb of Godric, which is located between the Temple and Judge Gundir, at the cliff. At the end, Sirris will help you in the battle with Lothric and Lorian.

Yuria of Londor

The key character in Dark Souls III, on which the fourth ending depends. However, just like with Anri of Astora’s quest chain, Yuria’s quests can also be completed differently.

In order for Yuria to come to the Firelink Shrine at all, Yoel of Londor, the pilgrim you found near the first bonfire in Undead Settlement, must die.

It is necessary to take five black marks from Yoel, that is, increase the level five times. It is important that these marks cannot be removed; The Purification Stone should not be used either; you need to get the fifth mark before visiting the Catacombs of Karthus.

The heroine will leave you if you get rid of the Black Marks, or if Anri from Astora dies (which is necessary for the 4th finale), or if you kill the mercenary in the church of Yorshka, who is hiding behind the statues.

If you follow her instructions correctly, you can summon the Pale Shadow of Londor to fight the final boss. By the way, after the end of the storyline, Yuria will leave and leave you the Dark Current sword. It can be obtained earlier if you kill her, but then the chain will break.

But apart from that, Yuria has another quest when she sends you to kill Orbek, as he can ruin her plans. The target itself is located in the poisonous swamps, in the same place where the battle with the Crystal Adept boss takes place.

After passing the stairs and bridge, turn left to the hole in the wall. Go a little further until you find stacks of books — Orbek will be among them.

If you kill him and bring Yuria’s ashes, you will be rewarded with a Quartz Blade, whose attack increases in proportion to your health.

Irina of Karim

A blind woman who can replace the existing Flame Keeper. She can also translate the Holy Tomes of Miraculous magic, which will be greatly needed by those who play through magic.

I. The path to Irina is in the Undead Settlement. For a starting point, take Ægon, the hammer-wielding man who sits in front of the church where you first meet Sigvard of Katarina.

There are two ways to get to Irina:

1. There is a small fissure just behind Aegon. With activated coal and a medium health bar, you can carefully jump down there, spending, however, up to 90% health.

2. A less painful way is through the door, which is in the sewers with several small and one large rats. From the third campfire of the Settlement, find the bridge (it is immediately to the right of the fire), but initially the door there will be closed.

First of all, find a short path to the right of another, but smaller bridge that leads to Sigvard and Aegon (it is guarded by two hollows with saws and vats).

At the door next to the bridge, kill the dog and enter the sewers. In the middle of the path you will find the right door leading to Irina, at the end of the path — the door that was initially closed (to the right of the third fire).

However, before you go looking for this option, you will also need to capture the Grave Key by purchasing it from the maid in the temple. In one of the tunnels you will find Irina sitting. It’s up to you which option is easier.

II. If you agree to accept Irina, she will move to the Firelink Shrine. After killing her, then you have to fight with her protector Aegon, respectively, the girl herself will no longer be resurrected. Interestingly, the development of Irina’s fate depends on the tomes that you will give her (light or dark).

In order for Irina of Karim to become a Fire Keeper, you must give her only light tomes. Being a Keeper, she will move to the nearest tower (the one that can be opened with a key for 20k souls), and that’s where she will level up.

After you kill the Dragonslayer Armor boss (and if Irina has already settled in the tower), Aegon will kill himself. From his body, you can pick up Morn’s ammunition.

Dark tomes will gradually drive Irina crazy. Having bought at least one dark spell, you will make Aegon your enemy, and he will leave with the girl. You can meet them again in the arena, where the battle with Judge Gundir took place.

Kill Aegon and speak to Irina twice. She will agree to return to the Temple, after which she will ask you to touch her. But before that, put on the bracers of Morne, obtained from Aegon. Your touch will kill Irina, and her ashes will unlock new items for you at the maid.
