Crash bandicoot 2022: Crash Team Rumble announced for PlayStation, Xbox at The Game Awards 2022

New Crash Bandicoot Game Reveal Teased for The Game Awards 2022

Activision teases that a Crash Bandicoot announcement could be coming up at this year’s The Game Awards show in early December.

A new Crash Bandicoot game announcement appears to be planned for The Game Awards 2022. While an announcement hasn’t been explicitly revealed yet, the evidence at hand is very clear. Perhaps the bigger question is what Crash Bandicoot game Activision will be announcing, though there are some interesting theories regarding that. Crash Bandicoot fans have a lot to look forward to in 2022.

The teaser for the next Crash Bandicoot game announcement came attached to a separate announcement entirely. Activision delivered a unique goodie package to select influencers known to be Crash Bandicoot fans. The package, shaped like a stack of pizza boxes, confirmed on its «receipt» that Crash Bandicoot 4 would be released on Steam on October 18. Crash Bandicoot 4 has been available via Activision Blizzard’s Battle.net, but a Steam release will assumedly open it up to a number of PC gamers who have been waiting for their preferred storefront to have it.

It’s on the side of the Crash Bandicoot 4 pizza boxes where things get especially interesting. Another message reading, «Hungry for more? Try out our new Wumpa Pizza for $12.08!» can also be found. $12.08 is believed to be a clever way of saying December 8, which just so happens to be the date of 2022’s The Game Awards event. Again, there’s no explicit mention of a game announcement whatsoever, but it is definitely the clear implication of the message.

What Crash Bandicoot fans are pondering is exactly what game Activision will be announcing. «Wumpa Pizza» isn’t the name of any known game, but perhaps it’s a clue. A long-rumored Crash Bandicoot project is named Wumpa League, a free-to-play party game said to be similar in nature to Fall Guys. Wumpa Pizza could be a hint toward Wumpa League, though that’s by no means certain.

Further evidence of a new Crash Bandicoot game being in development game from Activision studio Toys for Bob. In August, Toys for Bob posted a photo of all the games the team has ever made, leaving a blank frame for its eighteenth game. Toys for Bob was the developer of Crash Bandicoot 4, and gained live service experience supporting the development of Call of Duty: Warzone more recently.

Crash Bandicoot fans won’t have to wait too much longer to find out what Activision has planned. The Game Awards 2022 airs on December 8, which is just two months from now. It could announce the long-rumored Wumpa League free-to-play game, Crash Bandicoot 5, or something else entirely. The resurgence of Crash Bandicoot is alive and well.

Crash Bandicoot: Wumpa League footage uncovered

The long-rumoured Crash Bandicoot: Wumpa League spin-off has seemingly been uncovered by historian and researcher Liam Robertson, who shared new footage and information about the planned game via YouTube. While we’ve already seen leaked artwork from the project, this video is firm confirmation that the game exists, or at least did exist at one point.

According to Robertson, Wumpa League was in development at Toys for Bob for a significant chunk of time before it was shelved so the studio could focus on supplement work for Call of Duty. It was reportedly designed to be a team-based, competitive multiplayer game where players would face off against a mixed squad of characters. The ultimate goal was to earn the most Wumpa fruit possible.

Artwork shared by Robinson depicts Crash Bandicoot anti-hero Dingodile leading a pack of heroes and villains against a rival team, which consists of Tawna, Coco Bandicoot, Cortex, and a previously unseen bull woman. Also along for the ride are Ripper Roo, Uka-Uka, and a number of other original characters. One of these depicted in concept artwork appears to be an electric-powered hamster. Another is a strange bat creature.

‘The project basically used Crash 4‘s engine and assets as the basis for a multiplayer game with more open environments,’ Robertson explained.

Leaked footage shared with the video depicted Dingodile roaming through a greybox world covered in a variety of platforms. Beneath these platforms, a green texture likely representing slime is present. As in the footage, every character would have been given a glider which would help with quick traversal of levels.

Players would explore these unique levels, collect Wumpa fruit found in boxes, and attempt to avoid ‘nitro waves’ which wiped out the lower levels of each biome. Once a significant amount of Wumpa fruit was collected, players would return to their team base and drop off their goods. Other players could be attacked or K.O.ed with spin attacks, which would cause them to drop their Wumpa fruit.

According to Robertson, this may not represent the state of the game as it is today – as he claims to have seen more recent, complete versions of the project. This could indicate Toys for Bob has resumed work on the game, and that Wumpa League is due for an official reveal, despite its presumed long-dead status.

While the Crash Bandicoot spin-off was originally believed to be cancelled, Robertson now believes the project could materialise publicly – potentially even at The Game Awards 2022, given Toys for Bob recently teased a new game reveal related to the long-running franchise. We’ll have to wait to see if this teaser pans out – but in the meantime, we can all peruse the early Wumpa League greybox footage, and think about how far the game may have come.

Find out when to tune in to The Game Awards 2022 on 8-9 December 2022 to find out more about this project, should it be ready for a re-reveal.

Long-standing rumors of Wumpa League Crash Bandicoot game may be confirmed at December The Game Awards 2022 .

Activision sent journalists and bloggers a Crash Bandicoot package shaped like a pizza box with several items inside.

The recipients of the gift noticed that it also had two stickers on the package. One of them announces the release of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time on Steam , which will take place October 18 , and the other offers those who haven’t had enough to try another pizza — a novelty with wampa fruit for 12.08 dollars . The last one is a clear reference to The Game Awards , which will take place exactly on December 8, (12.08 American spelling of the date).

The developers of Crash Bandicoot 4 from Toys for Bob started teasing the new game back in August, but then it didn’t lead to anything. Even earlier, rumors and leaks appeared on the network, according to which studio is working on a network brawler in the spirit of Crash Bash .
