The Calm Before the Storm, Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Quest
1. Follow Astrid to the sauna.
Follow Astrid to the building where the sauna is located.
2. Leave your clothes in the changing room.
Go into the changing room and get undressed. You can wrap yourself in a towel. If you don’t do that, you’ll still be wearing bandages and panties.
3. Follow Astrid.
Enter the room where the sauna is located. You’ll meet Astrid’s mother there and you’ll spend some time chatting together.
4. (Optional) Jump into the water to cool off and regenerate.
Jump into the swimming pool outside. It will regenerate Ciri’s health bar.
5. (Optional) Drink a shot of Freya’s Firewater to warm up.
Drink a shot. It will regenerate Ciri’s health bar even more.
6. Join Skjall in the stable.
Go back to the changing room, get dressed and leave. Go to the stable where Skjall is preparing a horse for you. You’ll talk for a while and eventually your conversation will be interrupted by the arrival of the Wild Hunt to the village.
7. Try to defeat the warriors of the Wild Hunt. / Get on a horse and flee towards Drowned Dead Rock
You will have to defeat several Wild Hunt Warriors (14) and several Hounds of the Wild Hunt (12). When Skjall shouts to run out, run towards the stables. You will mount your horses and start running towards Drowned Dead Rock.
8. Make it to Drowned Dead Rock while avoiding the riders of the Wild Hunt.
Follow Skjall. Avoid the hounds of the Wild Hunt that will try to attack you. When you get to Drowned Dead Rock, there’ll be an elven mage waiting for you with a boat.
Skjall will draw the attention of the Wild Hunt rider chasing you, and Cri will run to her elven companion. Ciri will try to convince the mage to help Skjall, but he won’t want to do it, he will incapacitate her, load her on the boat and sail away.
Skjall will be knocked to the ground by the rider and will lose consciousness. When he regains consciousness a few hours later, he will notice on the beach the same boat in which Ciri and her companion had sailed away and a strange ugly creature next to it.
The action will move back to Freya’s garden. The last information Yennefer will get out of the Craven’s corpse will be that the strange ugly creature was taken care of by Jarl Donar, who then sold it.
Sadly, she was not given long to savor these blissful moments. The Wild Hunt had caught Ciri’s scent. Dark clouds gathered in the sky, puddles began to ice over and the ruthless wraiths rode towards the village. Ciri knew she was in no shape to defeat her assailants. Craven, or rather Skjall, for that was the unfortunate lad’s true name, decided to help her, putting his own life and honor at risk.
Ciri raced off to Drowned Dead Rock, where she rejoined her masked companion. From what Skjall could see the two got into some sort of quarrel, which the mysterious man ended by putting Ciri to sleep with a spell.
He then set her down in a boat and sailed off with her into the thick fog blanketing the surrounding sea.
Ciri had thus escaped the Wild Hunt once again. Skjall was less fortunate — the wraiths had wounded him and left him for dead. Yet he had life in him still and fought his way back to consciousness. When his eyes opened, he saw he was lying on the beach near a boat — the very same vessel in which Ciri and her companion had sailed away the night before. Now it bore but a single, highly unusual passenger — the ugliest man in the world.
If you haven’t completed the «Family Matters» quest and thus haven’t met Uma in the Baron’s castle yet, then you’ll have to talk to Jarl Donar about the ugly creature — you’ll get «A Mysterious Passenger» quest.
If you have already checked all of Ciri’s tracks in Velen, Novigrad and Skellige, and thus completed the «In Ciri’s Footsteps» quest, then you will receive next main story quest — «Ugly Baby».

As Witcher cosplays go, Ciri is probably the most popular character, even more so than Geralt or Yennefer, but that just means cosplayers have to get more creative with their designs.
Although typically seen as a fierce fighter and mage, cosplayer Ria Stark decided to do a more intimate outfit for Ciri, foregoing the usual armor and weapons.
Witcher 3 players may recall the one time in the game when Ciri changes outfits, after she is rescued in a small hamlet in Skellige, and the villagers treat her to their natural sauna.

It’s the only time when Ciri is truly vulnerable, and of course, the Wild Hunt are there to attack.
Stark, known professionally as Stoma Cosplay, chose this as the outfit to don for her recreation.

Although you could argue that this is a simple version of Ciri to put together, the attention to detail still has to be spot on. It also helps that Ria already bears an uncanny resemblance to Ciri naturally.

But, the hair is near identical, and the distinctive scar on her cheek completes the look. Dark eye shadow is also a signature of Ciri, who seemingly always has the time to apply it in-game.

This more understated cosplay of Ciri isn’t as extravagant as some of the more complex ones we’ve covered, but it captures her face perhaps better than any.

A close up also reveals the detail achieved with her cat-green eyes, although it’s unclear if these are contacts or effects added to the images after.

At the beginning of The Calm Before the Storm in The Witcher 3, the Witcher will wake up and start talking to Skjall. If you ask how long she was unconscious, then the conversation can take an interesting turn.
When Ciri asks if he undressed her, the guy, hesitating, admits this, but says that her mother and sister put a bandage on her chest.

After the end of the conversation, Skjall’s sister, Astrid, took her to the baths, to warm up, because after falling unconscious into a pond near the village, the girl was all cold.
Activate the action button on the pile of clothes lying on the bedside table under the mirror.
- If you put on a towel before entering, then inside you will find a conversation about shy girls from the mainland.
- If completely undressed, women will discuss the tattoo on the thigh.
Even when completely undressed, the witcher will still have underwear and bandages on her chest.
After a short conversation in the “Calm before the storm” task, we can optionally plunge into cold water, a small pond is located on the territory of the bathhouse, in the open air, and also drink the fiery water of the goddess Freya, a jug with glasses in the same place, in the fresh air, under the tree.
Both swimming in the lake and fire water will help replenish health.
Stables
After finishing the ablutions, according to the quest “The Calm Before the Storm” in The Witcher 3, we return to the locker room, get dressed, leave the bathhouse and go to the quest marker to meet Skjall at the stables.
After the episode with the dressing up of the unconscious Ciri, it is obvious that the boy is drying up on our Swallow. In the next conversation, there is an opportunity to develop a relationship with him a little.
He is worried that his sister told the witch too much.
- If you answer that there is no time for stupidity, then the dialogue will simply end and the attack scene will start.
- If Cirilla says that she knows what he likes and that she is not in a hurry, she will give Skjall the first and last kiss in her life.
Consequences of the choice
Dialogue in the stable is interrupted by the cries and clatter of horsemen’s hooves, the Wild Hunt enters the village. The witcher and Skjall enter into battle, but there are too many opponents, and the young man shouts for the girl to get on her horse and run away. At the very stables, he catches up and says that he will take him to the meeting place with the mysterious sorcerer.
Selecting «What about your family» will result in a slight change in dialogue with Geralt before Ciri wants to go to Skjall’s grave further down the story.
Now we are waiting for a horse race along a winding path to the Rock of the Dead, periodically the hounds of the Wild Hunt will rush under our feet. A mysterious magician in a mask is already waiting at the very rock. The girl asks to help the village, but he knocks her out with a spell and sets off on a boat.
A sad end
Skjall tries to catch up with them, but one of the monstrous horsemen overtakes him, causing the young man to pass out. At the moment when the mind briefly returns, he sees an ugly creature on the shore, fleeing deep into the island.
This breaks the dead man’s memories. All he can add is that he later saw this creature from Donar of the Hindar clan, but he sold it. To whom exactly Skjall does not know.
This will complete The Calm Before the Storm in The Witcher 3.
After that, it will be possible to start 3 quests at once: “The Mysterious Passenger”, “The Last Wish” and “The Freak” (provided that by this moment the search for Ciri in Velen and Novigrad has already been completed).
We advise you to go through the «Ugly Man» last, because otherwise some additional tasks in the first two quests will fail and you can spoil something ahead of time.
