Modern Warfare 2 gets regular updates, primarily to resolve bugs but also to adjust weapon balancing. They want to avoid any weapon being too strong for too long, and so we often see them nerf things that are overused and buff things that are unpopular.

You can expect updates fairly regularly, but the downloads are usually quite small. Although, the bi-monthly seasonal updates, which contain new content, are a bit larger.

Note: This page displays the latest patch notes for Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer, not Warzone. The mainline Call of Duty game each year is balanced separately from the Battle Royale, so none of these changes might be implemented in Warzone.

When Is Modern Warfare 2 Updated?

If Modern Warfare 2 is getting a minor update for the week then it’s typically going to be deployed on Wednesdays at 10:00 PT (13:00 ET / 18:00 GMT / 19:00 CET), with a pre-download available between 12-6 hours before. That was the date and time when we could expect updates for Vanguard and BOCW, and it seems to have become CoDs routine. They do updates for multiplayer at that time on Tuesdays because it’s exactly 24 hours before the regular Warzone updates on Wednesdays.

Sometimes we get very small «hot-patches» which are deployed to fix things in an emergency, and these can occur at any time. We also get larger updates for new seasons and big events, and these can similarly be deployed at any time.

Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Meta, Post-Patch

So, by way of conclusion, let’s answer your last question: what’s the meta after this most recent patch? You can find a brief overview of the short and mid-range meta beneath.

Short-Range Meta

You can find the current ranking of SMGs in MW2 here, but we think the most competitive option is the Vaznev 9k with the following loadout:

We’ve seen Shotzzy looking different with the Vaznev. | © Activision

Alongside this weapon we recommend using the knife in your secondary slot, and then taking a drill charge and a flash grenade. For field upgrades, Dead Silence is very strong, and for perks, we prefer Double Time, Bomb Squad, Hardline, and Birdseye.

Mid-Range Meta

You can find the current rundown of the best AR’s in MW2 here, but at the moment we recommend the M4 with the following build:

if you want an optic, then drop the underbarrel. | © Activision

In a mid-range loadout like this we suggest taking the X13 as your secondary weapon, alongside a drill charge and a flash grenade. For field upgrades we recommend the Portable UAV, and for perks, we go for Bomb Squad, Battle Hardened, Hardline, and Ghost.

Those were the patch notes, and our recommendation for post-patch loadouts. We’ll see you next week for more!

The loadouts described above are just a suggestion, but for a broader understanding of the best weapons in the game, check out this vid:

Modern Warfare 2 Image Shows Roadmap Without Remakes and In-Season Updates

By
Marc Keever

An image paints a picture of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 update as one bereft of of much content, at least initially.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is getting its Season 2 update in a few days, and it seems like there is less content outside all the remakes and in-season updates than players would like. The game has only been out for a few months, having released in October 2022, and Season 2 marks the first major update to bring new content and features to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Remade content isn’t always a bad thing — players often appreciate cases where popular maps and game modes are reintroduced. It was revealed recently that the popular Gun Game mode would return to Call of Duty with the Season 2 update, but some players feel that the roadmap for the first big update relies too heavily on recycling content and doesn’t bring enough new maps and features to Modern Warfare 2.

RELATED: Players Buy PS5 for Call of Duty More than for Exclusive Games

The image below posted by a Redditor going by the name jacovskee blacks out all the remakes, in-season updates, and paid content that will be featured in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 update. Shockingly, this accounts for almost half of the content, including most of the new features, half of the new multiplayer maps, and half of the new game modes. Others responded to share their frustrations at the drip-feed of content, and point out that all the new game modes that would be available on February 15 have also featured in past Call of Duty games.

Season 2 if you take out the remakes, “in-season” (not ready yet) or paid content options… you get better DLC on indie titles. from ModernWarfareII

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has also recently been the subject of rumors and discussions about the life cycle of the game — evidently the game was meant to have a 2-year life cycle, meaning the next game in the franchise would only arrive in 2024, but it appears that Activision is planning a full Call of Duty release in 2023 — there has been no confirmation from the company whether this will be a new game or simply a big paid DLC for Modern Warfare 2 as some have suggested, leaving a vacuum of information that will naturally be filled with rumors until more information comes to light.

It’s understandable that some players are disappointed at the apparent lack of content arriving with the Season 2 update. It’s hard to disagree with the sentiment that Warzone 2.0 is getting more attention and new content in the big new update, which seems unfair considering the fact that it is free to play. Regardless, it is still early in the life cycle of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and future updates will hopefully address any reservations and concerns that the game’s faithful may have at this time.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (Campaign) — XboxEra

I have to admit, I’ve gotten a bit spoiled by Call of Duty over the years (and the price has gone up), but after being totally impressed with 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot, I was looking forward to getting stuck in something more top notch «AAA» shooter bang.

There is no in the game in fact will be out before October 28th, but diehard and dedicated Call of Duty fans can pre-order the game and get access to the campaign element from the pack a full week early. So, let’s assemble Task Force 141 and take on those pesky global terrorists again in this spoiler-free XboxEra review of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II campaign.

The gang is all here

The events of Modern Warfare II, set three years after the events of the previous game, put us on the ground with the usual suspects — Ghost, Soap, Gaz and, of course, the unfailing captain «The best facial hair in games » Price. Several other characters return, including intelligence operative Keith Laswell and Farah, a freedom fighter from Modern Warfare 2019, who gets a significant cameo in one mission. The private military group known as the Shadow Company is also mentioned quite often and — hey, that’s the guy from 24 — also known as Captain Shepard.

The game also takes the opportunity to introduce some new characters, including Alejandro, a member of the Mexican Special Forces, and, nicely, actually offers random conversation options (all optional) during the game to flesh out these characters and occasionally provide some funny but often creepy banter and bravado during games and more relaxed moments.

Like I said, I won’t spoil the story as it is, but suffice it to say that the bad guys have some stolen American missiles, many lives are at stake, and they’re going around the world at breakneck speed until we get them. let’s stop. Naturally, you can expect plenty of plot twists along the way. The game takes a bit of a toll on too Seriously, this caused my eyes to roll back in the back of my head at several points throughout the game — but if you can turn off your brain and just go on a trip, I’m pretty sure you’ll have fun .

Target group on tour

One benefit of a worldwide terrorist plot is, of course, the many excuses for unique locations and crazy scenery. There are 17 missions in total in the game, in which we get to the Middle East, Mexico, Spain, the USA and even one of my favorite places — Amsterdam.

Indeed, the sheer variety of gameplay offered throughout the 6-8 hour adventure (at least in normal mode) is commendable. The Infinity Ward team has really leaned towards the «house-clearing» style of firefight where it makes sense, and there’s often a good focus on stealth as well as weapon firing as you progress through the campaign.

Indeed, the campaign offers many healthy doses of nostalgia and is, in some ways, almost a compilation of Call of Duty’s greatest hits from days gone by. Missions like «Close Air» offer a direct comparison to «Death from Above» from Call of Duty 4 as you protect our heroes on the ground with the fearsome AC-130 firepower. We can also enjoy a long nod to «All Ghillied Up» where the game really warms up and offers a very wide and much less linear sniping and stealth oriented gameplay.

Old Dog, New Tricks

Throughout the campaign, Infinity Ward also introduces new game mechanics, from nods to Warzone and even including crafting all things as you guide the character through some very survival-oriented settings. The mechanism for opening the backpack and assembling the rudimentary traps and smoke bombs felt a little fiddly at times, but it got the job done.

On another, perhaps too long level (after hanging upside down in the helicopter for a bit), you can steal vehicles in a long car chase by jumping from truck to truck. While I admire the attempts at diversity in general, it’s the more unique one-off gameplay elements that often lag a bit and certainly don’t feel as polished as the main core of the game.

It’s a bit of a nitpick, but these random gameplay moments just don’t feel as smooth and polished as the rest of the game. The worst offender is what I can probably describe as a boss fight — it was a complete failure and was disappointing and frankly unsatisfactory as a conclusion to the main story arc.

Shock and awe

The roller coaster of the campaign will impress you visually — indeed, Modern Warfare 2’s graphical fidelity is often unbelievable. It’s is a very beautiful game most of the time, with the 60fps smooth lock that the series is known for, displayed throughout, and if you have the right display, a 120fps option is also available. The quality of the lighting, materials and textures is top notch for the most part, and the different locations really showcase what the game engine is capable of. Movie theaters are to be commended for being very well made, and the game does a great job at nearly the same bar of visual quality.

It’s not all sunshine and roses though — I did have a few glitches, the most egregious of which was entire enemy patrols and grass disappearing from view depending on the angle I was looking at them. At the moment when I was desperately trying not to be discovered, it was a real mistake. However, these crashes are rare and rare, and for the most part the campaign is flawless in terms of performance.

I was playing on normal difficulty as the starting difficulty, and it goes without saying that this time around everything seemed a little more deadly and I was surprised how often I died playing through the game. New players or those who prefer story and storytelling to a challenge may want to lower the difficulty level down to the easiest.

The game also offers an additional challenge with the «realistic» setting — this is the same difficulty as «veteran», but the HUD has been completely removed to make things as realistic as possible. When you can literally die from a single bullet, you will feel the game in a very different way, and I highly recommend at least giving it a try.

You will indeed adopt this ‘house clearing’ methodology in your play style out of sheer necessity — and intense gameplay in various situations is quite a challenge — although I suppose standards based levels such as car chases can be just disappoint, not please.

Quest Completed

I came into Modern Warfare II with high expectations after Modern Warfare 2019, and for the most part I was satisfied. Minor niggles aside, there’s a lot to love about this game, as well as a great campaign replayability with some fun challenges to boot (check your achievements guys!).

The ultimate example of Hollywood’s «AAA» gaming spectacle — full of incredible visuals and scenery with tons of varied gameplay and just a few moments that didn’t pan out. At times it can’t help but feel like a greatest hits compilation of previous Call of Duty moments, despite genuine and well-intentioned efforts to mix things up a bit, and that’s okay.
