Top 25 single player games to play on PC in 2022

What single-player video games should you play in 2022, before all upcoming releases start hitting the market?

It’s a hectic year already (we mean the events in the gaming world), and there are already tons of fantastic single player PC games that either came out this year or before. After all, many of us love to have our private gaming sessions, and there are no better titles to appreciate the story and game mechanics.

The following list of 25 best single player PC games in 2022 will include all sorts of genres and styles, but all of the gathered titles are excellent to play on your own. Keep in mind that a big chunk of them are available on various PC gaming subscription services. We’ll note that in brackets next to a title’s name. Let’s get it started!

25. Cyberpunk 2077

It’s been a major letdown at the release, and that’s a known fact. But don’t close the tab just yet, and hear us out. It’s still a solid cyberpunk adventure with a well-thought story, interesting (most of the time) characters, and satisfying gameplay. Some glitches here and there never stopped Fallout fans from loving the series, so why should Cyberpunk be omitted? It’s been patched a lot since it came out, so you shouldn’t worry too much about getting it now.

24. Hitman 3 (Included with Game Pass)

There’s not much to say about the adventures of Agent 47, as the premise is straightforward. You’re an assassin who does everything in his power to fulfill what’s expected in the contract. It’s a field for creativity: should you knock out this one guy, take his clothes and infiltrate the place in disguise, or should you go all out and kill everyone in sight?

23. Halo: Infinite (Included with Game Pass)

The legendary series got itself another great installment. Halo: Infinite is what a new game in a well-known franchise should be: a tad of new mechanics, improved graphics, and a great story in a familiar packaging that feels brand-new nonetheless. The return of Master Chief couldn’t be any better. For anyone interested, it’s available on GP.

Suppose you’ve been familiar with previous games in the series done by Paradox Development Studio. In that case, you know what to expect: a massive strategy that allows you to lead a dynasty of royalty through several generations. It’s Middle Ages; regardless of how things are going, be sure to take good care of your family. Otherwise, it might as well turn its back on you.

21. Total War Warhammer 3 (Included with Game Pass)

It’s the culmination of an unlikely blend of the Total War series with the Warhammer universe, and it’s phenomenal. Few games can match one of the best single-player campaigns here, but Warhammer 3 is a worthy epilogue to this epic trilogy and totally deserves its place at this top. It was added to Game Pass on the release day; go check it out!

20. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade

If you’re a fan of the original Final Fantasy VII, you already know this is a must. However, it will be a smooth introduction to the franchise if you’ve never encountered it before. It has excellent graphics and a re-designed combat system that works perfectly. The game explores the characters even more than the original game, so be ready for a truly magical experience.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (Included with Ubisoft+)

We’ve seen A LOT of titles in this series, so what makes Valhalla one of the best solo games on PC? It continues the RPG trend that we’ve seen in Odyssey and Origins, yet it feels even better. Quests are finally more complex than mere “kill / follow this guy,” and the world is full of engaging activities to do. Vikings must have led really fascinating lives if they were remotely as breathtaking as this game.

For those who love a decent challenge, we don’t need to encourage you to play this game. Ori is a beautiful series that rewards you with a cute, engaging story for all the attempts you had to make along the way. It’s difficult, but it’s well aware of this fact and does everything in its power to make you feel satisfied with completing any particularly strenuous section.

16. LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga

The game has just come out, and it seems like the score of 75% on Metacritic makes it a good return of LEGO titles done by TT Games. It’s everything you need if you’re a fan of the saga itself: putting all nine films in one game sounds like too much for normies, but not for us. Seeing how neatly the title is reviewed, it must have turned out the way we all wanted it to be.

Yoko Taro likes to experiment, as you’ll see soon after you start playing this game. Automata is an emotional JRPG journey through a post-apocalyptic world. The main character, 2B, is an android slowly becoming aware of emotions and dealing with them in her own way by fighting for what’s left of humanity. See how her adventure progresses and enjoy a fantastic soundtrack that only deepens the melancholy of post-catastrophe Earth.

The franchise continues the story of Ethan – he has just come out of the nightmares of Biohazard and now has to deal with the mysteries of a strange, small Romanian village. There are also the residents of a big, grim castle with a very unsettling aura. Be sure to play the previous title in the series. Otherwise, you might not understand some of the game’s plot.

There were quite a few visions of what the future will look like, and this one is genuinely mesmerizing. You control Aloy, a female hunter trying to figure out why there are so many animalistic machines all around while surviving in this harsh environment. It’s a TPP adventure game with some RPG elements thrown into the mixture, making a terrifying concept of the future quite fun.

12. Kena: Bridge of Spirits

In a situation where the indie dev’s debut is that high on this list, you may be sure that the game is truly excellent. It’s a lovable TPP adventure title that doesn’t bring anything innovative to the table yet makes up for it with how great its execution is. Kena fights her opponents, using her magical staff and a bit of assistance from her little ghost-like friends, that are called Rot. Ember Lab’s title looks and feels like a high-budget Pixar movie with a sprinkle of a darker theme, which we absolutely love.

In case you’ve had a chance to play the first Dishonored, the adventure of the assassin Corvo (or Empress Emily Kaldwin) continues 15 years after the events of the first installment in the series. The game is still an FPP stealth-oriented experience that gives off some Thief vibes, although the locations are visibly more extensive, and there are more weapons to choose from so that you have more possible ways in which your mission can go.

We’re starting the top 10 of best single player games PC strongly: it’s the second time we get to see the wonders of the Dying Light franchise, 20 years after the events of the first title. The city of Villedor also has tons of undead enemies for us, but this time, there’s a critical mission we’re on. As Aidan Caldwell, we’re trying to find our lost sister. Simultaneously, we need to be aware of other humans in the game’s post-apocalyptic world — they also pose a threat to us. Will you be able to stay human?

It’s a TPP action-adventure title that plays like a soulslike and offers a lot of exploration that reminds you of games like Tomb Raider. It all works surprisingly well, and just The Skywalker Saga, it’s a genuinely great Star Wars game.

Death Stranding

If you like games about a dystopian future that are a bit experimental, you’ll adore Death Stranding. It’s Hideo Kojima’s newest masterpiece and puts us in the shoes of Samuel. The man is a «porter»: he will deliver anything he can across the game’s futuristic world.

It’s an experience that lets you explore the remnants of humanity like a walking simulator, but there are moments in porter’s life when he has to fight for his safety. Still, it’s not for everyone – you should at least give it a try anyway.

7. Yakuza Like A Dragon (Included with Game Pass)

It’s no longer Tokyo, and it’s no longer Kazuma Kiryu, who is known from previous installments in the Yakuza series. Yokohama is a bit different, which also applies to the combat system: we will be fighting in a turn-based manner this time.

Other than that, it’s what players love about this franchise; there will be serious moments and extraordinary characters, but the game doesn’t shy away from the bizarre elements. For instance, there is a kart mini-game that will make you think of a particular Japanese game series.

6. Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar’s take on Wild West didn’t get old at all. It’s a massive, engaging tale about honor, titular redemption, love, and hate. All set in the beautiful world straight from the finest westerns. It’s so much more than, as some people call it, Grand Theft Auto set in Wild West. The adventures of Arthur Morgan are still something that any player should experience, which is why it’s so high on the list.

5. Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY

Speaking of the best single player PC games that don’t age, can you believe that Witcher 3 came out in 2015? Even though it seems like ages ago, the title can still cast a strong love spell on anyone who plays it. It’s a phenomenal RPG with better side quests than many main quests in other games.

It has a satisfying combat system that combines the usage of Signs and elixirs with the mastery of swordsmanship. There’s also Gwent and other fun things to do when Geralt isn’t slaying any monsters. We highly recommend getting the GOTY edition: it includes both Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone expansions. They add lots of hours of gameplay and both have a great stories to tell.

4. God of War

The old-new Kratos is just outside the top three. Nonetheless, it doesn’t change the fact that this title is a masterpiece with one of the best single player campaigns. The brave decision to change the image of our favorite god paid off: he’s now matured and has someone else to teach about life. The PC port is as good as it gets, and you can even play the game on Steam Deck if you want. It’s still a bit difficult to process, but here we are.

Half-Life: Alyx

We know that most gamers don’t own a VR set, but this is the game that you need to have when buying one. 2. Disco Elysium — The Final Cut

It’s not an easy game to digest. It has a wall of text waiting for you; it’s sad and depressing, but it tells an important story through our beloved medium. In theory, it’s an isometric adventure title inspired by tabletop experience: a dice roll will determine your actions as if you were playing a board game.

Practically speaking, this philosophical manifestation is hard to comprehend but rewards you with one of the most remarkable experiences you can get on a PC once you make this effort.

1. Elden Ring

Is anyone surprised that the new From Software title is on the top of our list? We thought that there was no way that a typical Dark Souls formula could feel fresh once again, but that’s precisely what we received. Elden Ring takes the genre into the open-world format and tells a fantastic story (supported by George R. R. Martin) that you need to gather from all the bits scattered around the Lands Between.

The gameplay is very similar to what you experienced in previous titles developed by the studio, although everything has been polished to perfection and works as intended. There’s also a horse that will accompany you on your journey – which will last at least 40-50 hours, so it’s good to have one. Are you ready to become the Elden Lord?

Jetzt kaufen*

Jetzt kaufen*

The bracelet on your arm gives you the ability to cast spells, and with the help of sorcery, you explore the open world in search of a way home.

In addition to being able to overcome wall barriers and perform feats that a parkour expert would be proud of, you will be able to invent your own spells, find allies and fight the forces of evil.

This will certainly help you not only enjoy the moment, but also the story as a whole.

Best Games of 2022: Promising New Year’s Eve

Being the first to discover a game that becomes a hit can be a huge advantage. Two exciting new games are coming up in January, which means you’ll be able to enjoy them right after the holidays.

Will they remain the best games of 2022 as time goes by? We cannot know for sure. But if you’re looking to start the year off with something solid, Monster Hunter Rise and Elden Ring are definitely worth checking out.

Monster Hunter Rise

The Monster Hunter franchise has produced some of the best games in recent years, and Rise will no doubt continue that trend. Indeed, with improved graphics and an optimized engine for even sharper action, Monster Hunter Rise could very well be among the best games of 2022.

Your mission, if you choose to accept the challenge, will be to explore strange worlds and fight monsters never seen before. You will have 14 weapons to choose from, including swords, daggers and bows.

Even more interesting, you will have the opportunity to collect items, create and upgrade weapons so that you can really face off against the bad guys.

Elden Ring

Elden Ring will be released in February 2022. It is amazing: in the trailers we see an epic kingdom with numerous levels of intricate elements and details. A series of interconnected landscapes help create this incredible world.

From shady dungeons to dense and imposing forests, you will seamlessly move from one location to another on foot or on horseback. In addition to visual design, the plot of the mystical role-playing game Elden Ring was worked on by Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of Dark Souls, and George R. R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, which, in turn, guarantees such a mind-blowing immersion in a world that it will be so easy to compete with competitors in 2022.

The best games of 2022 to watch out for

Since 2020, events have taken place in the world, as a result of which the release process of many games has been put on hold. Unfortunately, there’s nothing anyone can do about it, but game development hasn’t completely stopped.

Studios are gradually getting back to work, and with production back on track, some of the most anticipated games of 2021 are getting ready to release. Yes, we will have to wait a little longer, but our patience will be rewarded. Below are two more ambitious candidates for places of honor in the ranking of the best games of 2022.

Dying Light 2

If there is a video game in 2022 that best reflects the real life of the past few years, it is Dying Light 2. A deadly virus has devastated the earth and sent humanity back to the Dark Ages. You will have to be vigilant as you roam the ruined cities, where dangers lurk around every corner.

Your task is to go through the sinister lands and find answers to questions. In addition to fighting the infected, you need to look for clues. What led to this? Who is in power, what goals do they pursue? These questions need to be answered as you fight to survive.

But remember that, as the game’s slogan says, you must always «remain human. »

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

If you’re the kind of person who would like to recommend something worthy of the best games of 2022 to other gamers, then Warhammer 40,000 is perfect. This four-player co-op game takes place in the city of Tertia and your task is to stop the evil cult of Admonitia.

They intend to destroy the planet Atoma Prime by killing its inhabitants and seizing control of it. The only ones who can stop them are you and your three friends. That’s what makes this game intriguing. The visuals are great, and the story is top notch.

But it’s the fact that you have to play with other people and act strategically to stop Admonitia that makes it one of the best games of 2022.

Best Indie Games of 2022

The big studios are undoubtedly dominating the news feeds when it comes to the best games of 2022. However, this does not mean that niche developers will not be able to express themselves. New games 2021 included some fantastic indie offerings like Lake and Dustborn. We can expect many more hits in the coming months. Don’t miss out on two more games that are sure to be among the top indie games of 2022.

Slime Rancher 2

The sequel to Slime Rancher brings even more color and splendor to your screen. Indie developer Monomi Park made a fortune with the original game, and it looks like he will be able to repeat his success in 2022.

Slime Rancher 2 follows the adventure of Beatrix LeBeau as she explores Rainbow Island. As in the first part, you have to build a ranch by collecting materials from all over the island.

This time you will need to collect new slimes. You’ll also be able to craft fixtures and upgrade your vacpack to build a mega conservatory on Rainbow Island.

The Invincible

Science fiction fans, this is the place for you! This is probably one of the best games of 2022. Developers from Starward Industries have created a retro future in which you will have to use various things in the present to uncover the secrets of the past and understand the future.

You miraculously survived a space mission that turned into a disaster. Your task is to explore an alien planet, uncover its secrets and find out where your crew members are (whether they fell into an abyss, were locked up, etc.).

Only you can discover the truth as you search this strange and dangerous planet for clues from the past that will determine your future and that of your crewmates.

Don’t miss the best games of 2022!

We’ve covered just a few of the best games of 2022. We know that not every item on this list will appeal to every individual gamer. We also know that the list is subject to change as new games hit the market, which will certainly please us all, given that we have been deprived of new content for a whole year.

Based on current trends in the gaming industry, these ten offerings will be among the most anticipated releases.
