Im Oktober 2009 vermeldete Karl-Magnus Troedsson, der ausführende Produzent des Ego-Shooters Battlefield: Bad Company 2 noch vollmundig über den Kurznachrichtendienst Twitter (wir berichteten), dass der Shooter auf jeden Fall Dedicated Server unterstützt. Während diese Aussage an sich nicht falsch ist, stellt sie doch nicht die ganze Wahrheit dar: Es werden nämlich keinen beliebigen Server genutzt werden können, sondern nur offizielle von Dice unterstützte, die Spieler anmieten können.
Dies berichtet die Seite eurogamer.net und hat auch eine Stellungnahme vom Produzenten Gordon Van Dyke zu diesem Thema: Dies geschehe, um die »Sicherheit des Titels auf dem PC zu schützen. Dice verdient daran [an den Servern; Anm.d.A] nichts.« Das Studio habe aber bereits in allen wichtigen Gebieten Hostpartner ausgewählt, sodass alle Interessenten in ihrem Gebiet einen Server mieten könnten.
Doch was bedeutet diese Ankündigung für die Moding-Community, denn in der Vergangenheit war der Zugang zu einem eigenen Dedicated Server Grundvoraussetzung für Mods. Von Dice gibt es bisher noch keine Stellungnahme dazu, wie man mit diese Frage verfährt.

Electronic Arts announces that the Forteam project has become the exclusive partner of Electronic Arts in Russia and will support ranked servers for the online game Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
The official Russian portal of the game — battlefieldbc.ru — starts working today.
“Electronic Arts Russia aims to provide a convenient and localized service for its games in Russia,” says Regional Director Tony Watkins (Tony Watkins), — and, of course, we could not ignore the release of the game Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which is the most important release of this spring. The Swedish studio EA DICE is extremely selective in transferring the rights to ranked servers to third partners, and the fact that we managed to agree on an official host for Russia was a real achievement and a local victory for EA Russia. I’m sure this will be a great gift for fans of the game and proof that we have high hopes and serious plans for the Battlefield series in Russia.» nine0005
Forteam, a Russian project providing quality game hosting, has been selected to exclusively provide Battlefield: Bad Company 2 ranked game servers in Russia. From the beginning of the release of the game, many free servers will be opened.
Additionally, anyone can rent their own dedicated ranked server from Forteam, after which they can set up and organize their own Bad Company 2 online games. Information about the cost, conditions and mechanics of renting servers will be available closer to the release of the game. At the first stage, the servers will be located in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg, but Electronic Arts and Forteam plan to open and develop servers throughout Russia, in the central regions, beyond the Urals and in the Far East. All players using ranked servers will be able to track their game statistics, achievements, rewards and new ranks in the global ranking system of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which made it necessary to open a Russian-language portal for Bad Company 2 players.
On the official website of the game Battlefield: Bad Company 2 — battlefieldbc.ru — players will be able to get answers to their questions regarding the most anticipated game of 2010, see the latest news and events in the world of Battlefield, find out where and how you can purchase the game, use guides and descriptions, take part in discussions on the forum and contests — and all this is completely in Russian! It will also provide detailed information about the online support for the multiplayer mode of the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 game, where and what servers are available and how to organize your own game.
Most importantly, the battlefieldbc.ru portal will update and display the results and achievements of the players online, as well as provide detailed game statistics, ratings and information about the game profiles of the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 online fighters. In addition, players registered on the portal will be able to participate in the process of filling the site, provide descriptions, tips, advice and recommendations, post videos and screenshots, for which they will be given the opportunity to receive exclusive statuses and ranks, stylized signatures and other rewards in their profiles on the portal. nine0005
