When you make it to the beach after parking your boat near the rock formation to the left, you will be bombarded by enemies. Before moving out of this location after clearing out all the enemies, head to the left and on the beach is a white boat washed ashore. Move around the side facing the water to obtain the Horizontal Rain Dog Tag.

Follow the tanks through the streets. As enemy soldiers and vehicles appear, make use of the engage option as the tank you’re following will attack and destroy.

When you reach an area to the left where scaffolding sits, scale the first level, hop over the gap and move all the way to the end to find a SCAR-H SV. Keep along the coast to avoid enemy tanks and some soldiers if you wish to stay out of combat.

Trouble With Tanks? There are multiple tanks out in the open — and it’s easy to get blown up again and again if you try to just power through with your own tank. Here are a couple of helpful tips if you’re wondering how to beat the tanks. First, your vehicles «heal» when you exit and leave them alone for a while. Thus, you can keep hopping between the armored vehicles and the tank to help you get through the area. Second, the default 25mm cannons in the abandonned armored vehicles are useless against tanks; use the D-pad to select the in-built rocket launcher instead (which can destroy a tank in only 1 or 2 hits). Even if your tank is destroyed you can keep jumping between the abandonned armored vehicles to clear the area.

M240B is a bit of a complicated find. When you reach the parking garage, head to the top. You’ll see a stack of green supply crates on the left. Jump on these and to the ledge of the building adjacent to it. Follow this ledge around to the side that faces the ocean and when the ledge extends, the LMG is at the edge.

You’ll eventually arrive at a club containing a bar with red stools. Behind this bar near the floor are the Armored Column Dog Tags.

Help Irish move the debris blocking the door in order to move on. You’ll walk on a highway of abandoned cars. Move through the bus to continue on and kill all enemies in sight. When they’re clear, high winds will pin you to the side of the bridge. A large ship will then crash sending you into the water. When you’ve been given control of your character, swim upwards and you’ll be picked up by Pac.

Head up to the compound and at the door you will see two unsuspecting guards. Kill them to move in through the door. Climb the ladders at the end of the way and you can stock up on ammo using the available caches. Kill all the enemies in the aircraft storage room. M16A4 is more hidden than most weapons are in the campaign. There will be a stack of boxes in a supply room in this location and you’ll need something explosive to destroy these. Once you do this the M16 is placed between the piping and the wall.

When they’re wiped out, your team will scale the ramps on the right side. This will lead you to a large hangar. Enemies in here are not aware of you until you engage. Grab a grenade launcher from the cache to take out a few groups of soldiers to make this an easier process. When they’re all eliminated, reinforcements will appear through the opposite end via vehicles. Sniper will perch on the left and right in the rear. When you approach the large plane in the middle of the hangar, climb up the ramp to scale the plane’s wing. You’ll hear the Dog Tag chime. The Grounded Dog Tag is stuck to the plane’s door.

After the enemies have been cleared out, head to the indicated exit and hop on the vehicle. You’ll get control of the mounted machine gun. Take out as many people as you can. Eventually you’ll crash and the level ends when Hannah betrays you.

Let’s start with something nice and simple — graphics. BF4 is without a doubt a great looking game. But when you need to read the maximum amount of information from the screen in a split second, all these particle effects, shadows and pleasant colors can be distracting. They also significantly affect your frame rate, which is already shitty. So let’s fix this.

If you want the best performance, then you need these settings in the graphics menu. The resolution and refresh rate must match the monitor’s native specifications. In this case it’s 19201080 and 144 hertz. Some players prefer a resolution lower than native, such as 720p — but this is a matter of taste. 19201080 and 144 Hertz are great for me. Set the brightness to 100% — this will improve visibility, especially in dark levels like Lockdown and Hangar 21. This will make enemies hiding in the shadows easier to spot. V-sync should be turned off to reduce input lag. Field of view is a matter of taste, but a horizontal angle of 90 is a classic setting that provides a wide field of view without looking weird or stretched. Maintaining the field of view while aiming will maintain the angle without reducing it. The viewing angle in technology should also be 90. Motion Smoothing should be set to 0% — this will provide better visibility and a slight performance boost. Weapon blur is off, which means that no part of the screen will blur when aiming. On the right side of the screen, set all values to «Low» and «Off», except for the «Grid Quality» item. Leaving the grid at Ultra will allow you to see the models of the fighters and Dorritos from a greater distance. Don’t forget to click «Apply Settings» and return to the game to experience the difference. You will notice that visibility has improved significantly — especially when moving. In addition, the frame rate should be higher.

Let’s go back to the options on the «Sound» tab. There is not much to change here, but it is important: set the volume to 100%, the speaker type to Headphones, and their configuration to Stereo. This will allow you to hear the best positioned sound to identify the enemy from nearby footsteps, shouts, and shots.

Next, move to the «Gameplay» tab. In the «Basic» section, turn off hints and tutorials, then go to advanced settings. The first thing to change here is network smoothing. Set it to 0%, and don’t forget to change the High Network Refresh Rate from Auto to Enabled. These settings will help you see a more accurate location of soldiers and vehicles on the server, improve hit registration and ensure the maximum amount of information received by the game client. Scroll down and see the user interface settings. Instead of explaining all these points one by one, I’ll just leave them on the screen so you can copy them for yourself and see if they work for you. I struggled with them a lot and now I feel that such settings provide an excellent balance of information and screen space. The minimap is larger by default here, and there is less flickering on the screen — especially at the moment of aiming. Important remains on the screen when needed, and the garbage disappears — you can focus on shooting at targets. Try these values. If you like it, great. If not, play around with them until you find the right balance.

Next, let’s take a look at the mouse and aim settings. Although these settings are a matter of habit, I will show you what I use. These settings assume low or medium sensitivity — I am very comfortable with them. They allow accurate aiming at long range, but retain the ability to quickly turn towards targets at short or medium range. Also, in case you’re wondering, I’m using a Deathadder 4G optical mouse with a DPI of 4000 and a polling rate of 1000Hz. Sensitivity on Windows is 6 out of 11 and all mouse acceleration methods are disabled. Let’s go back to the settings — the mouse sensitivity when controlling a fighter is set to 10%, which is approximately equal to two and a half quick moves with the mouse to turn 360. Sensitivity in technology is slightly higher — 18%. Direct mouse input is enabled, relative aiming on vehicles is also enabled. What about the general aiming of a fighter? When changed, this value is initially strange, but I really believe that turning it on over time will improve your aiming and help develop muscle memory. When you turn off the general aiming of a fighter, the sensitivity of the mouse in aiming is reduced. Some players like it because it allows them to be more accurate when shooting at long range. But I hate that kind of thing. I want my sensitivity to be constant whether I’m aiming or not. So I enable this setting. Thus, the sensitivity in aiming and from the hip is the same. This is not easy to get used to at first, but if you practice for a few hours, then things will go smoothly. I believe this will improve your accuracy in the long run — because that way you will be dealing with a constant sensitivity, not one that changes as you aim. Let’s leave the sensitivity in aiming at 100%, like everything else in advanced settings.

So, we figured out the in-game settings. But there is one more step we can take to improve performance and visibility. This feature is relevant only on a PC, because we are talking about creating a custom game configuration file.

Creating a configuration file is very simple. The first step is to launch Notepad and paste in the commands that I have given in the description. These commands add a few more tweaks that improve performance, remove particle effects, and improve visibility. Once you’ve put them in, there are a few things you might want to change. The first is the command for the maximum screen refresh rate GameTime.Maxvariablefps 145. I set 145 because it is one more than the native frequency of my monitor. If your monitor supports 120Hz, enter 121 here. The next command you might want to change is PerfOverlay .DrawFps. This command is responsible for displaying the frame per second counter in the upper right corner of the screen. Some players like to see their FPS and some don’t. This is entirely your choice. If you want to get rid of the counter, write 0. The rest of the commands can be left in their current form. The next step is the File menu, Save As…, navigate to the main Battlefield 4 folder. This is usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4. Then change the type at the bottom to All Files and enter a name file «User.cfg». Then save. If you did everything correctly, then a cfg file will appear in the folder with BF4. And every time the game is loaded, it will automatically execute all the commands listed in it, and you do not have to enter them in the console. If you want to remove these commands or run into any problems, just delete the User.cfg file.

That’s it. If you have followed all the recommendations, it will help improve your gameplay, in-game visibility, and performance. Don’t forget to play Team Deathmatch and Supremacy to improve your aiming skill and develop the all-important muscle memory, which will be your advantage on the battlefield. Well, a couple of general tips — act quickly, focus, listen to the steps and always expect the impossible.

Guide to the best strategy and tactics for the commander

1375

This guide serves as a small guide on how to play as a commander, including some tactics and tips/tricks you can use while playing.

Contents

Commander mode allows the player to assume the position of «commander» of a team. The user can issue direct orders to squad leaders, set up UAV scans and flight scans, issue evacuation orders to squads, and even has special abilities if your team has secured certain targets. The role of commander is not for everyone, it can be quite boring and sometimes even frustrating if you are stuck in a team that does not listen to you, but some will find it useful to help your team.

The role of commander can greatly help your team and can even help turn the tide of battle in your favor!

————————————————————-

Assuming the role of commander.

Join from server browser.

Go to the server browser, click the server, click the 3 dots, then click «Join» as Commander».

—————-

Connection from QuickMatch

Go to QuickMatch and scroll down to Commander.

—————–

Accepting the role of the commander in the game

During the game, go to the team setting, click on the “Commander” tab, then click on “Accept team”. Note: If you want to return to playing infantry, you must leave the server and rejoin!

This is your main point of view as a commander. Here you can see the entire battlefield. When zoomed out it’s pretty much just an overlay of what’s actually happening, however if you zoom in enough it will jump to the actual view of the battlefield from above allowing you to see running players rather than just icons.

List of abilities

On the top left side of the screen you will see the cooldown of your abilities, you can also see the blocked targets and what points you need to capture in order to use them.

Camera / Object Status

On the commander’s main screen in the lower left corner you will see a camera image if you have selected a target, and a first-person view if you have selected a friendly one. These reviews can be extremely helpful in giving you an idea of what’s happening on the battlefield. And if you press escape, the camera image will explode and you can see more, although the image will be blurry. Above the camera feed there is a list of targets and their status, if they are flashing it means that they are in the process of shooting.

Team selection

On the right side of the screen you will see a list of your team’s squads, you can select which squad you want by clicking on them. When a squad is selected, you can see the name of its leader and you can communicate directly with them in voice chat, and you can also use the squad’s text channel to communicate. When a unit is selected, all of them will be highlighted in green on the map.

Abilities are the commander’s way of supporting his team. Right-click on a map to open the Ability menu.

Color notes:

Blue: Ability can be used

white: Ability on cooldown or in use

Inactive: Ability locked to objective your team does not yet have or in use

———- by

Ability Default:

These abilities are available to you 24/7

Order Soilder

This ability allows you to give orders to squad leaders about which targets/areas you want them to attack or defend. However, I generally find that text chat is better. You will receive points if the squad leader accepts your orders.

UAV Scan

This ability spawns an UAV that circles the selected target showing enemy/vehicle/equipment positions, has a short cooldown, and cannot be moved once placed until the ability ends. This can be countered by an enemy EMP UAV. You will receive points if your teammates kill enemies that are within range of the UAV.

UAV EMP

Similar to Scan UAV, but blocks allies/equipment from showing on enemy maps and can be used to block enemy commanders’ UAVs. Has a longer recovery time. If you are playing against an enemy commander as well, you should keep this ability until he leaves his scan to block him. You will receive points if your teammates kill enemies that are within range of the UAV.

EVAC Order

This ability should allow you to warn people of an incoming attack or cruise missile, however I always find it best to type in chat to alert your team. This ability gives you points every time you use it, so no matter what the circumstances, just pick a random number on the card and place it.

High Value Target

Awaiting image

This ability allows you to mark a specific enemy target that is in a killstreak of 6 or more players. This will mark them on the map for your teammates for a short time, you will get points for simple use and if they are killed, you and whoever kills them will get points. You can tell which enemy can be marked because they will appear on your map surrounded by a box, click on the field and then mark them as HVT.

Proxy Attack

This ability temporarily disables the enemy commander for 15 seconds, and also kills any of their active abilities. This is an extremely effective tool when used against an enemy commander as you can stop cruise missiles in their path before they hit and cause the enemy gunship to eject anyone inside! Thus, it should be saved for the right moment. After use, it takes a very long time to update. You don’t get points for using it, so if you don’t need to use it, don’t worry.

——————————

Abilities tied to targets:

they require you to have certain targets on the map under your control before you can use them.

Infantry Scan

This ability scans the map to detect enemy infantry for a short time and use it as soon as it becomes available.

Vehicle Scan

This ability is the same as infantry scan except for vehicles. Use immediately after unlocking.

Warship

This ability allows the player to spawn on a warship that will circle around a point on the map, you cannot choose which target it is flying around. Friendly matches can appear in it and parachute down from it. This is usually a rather useless ability as they are EASILY knocked down, however it can help for a few minutes when he can stay airborne. Use immediately after unlocking. Not every card has this ability.

Cruise Missile

This is one of the best abilities available to the commander! This can easily help in clearing congested facilities and help deal with large groups of campers! The missile takes time to reach its target, so it is not very good to use against actively mobile groups/vehicles. However, be careful, this ability has a large explosion radius and you can potentially kill teammates on hardcore servers. This ability can be stopped by an enemy Proxy Commander attacking you even if the missile is in flight! Not every card has this ability.

——————————

Squad Abilities:

Squad Abilities require a score to use, during gameplay you will see a progress bar that will fill when you score from using default abilities . Some require you to spend more points than others. To use squad abilities, you must first left-click on a squad leader on the map to select their squad, and then right-click to open the ability menu.

Unit Boost

This ability allows you to increase the entire unit’s field upgrade path by 1. I like to use this on units that are currently in combat or about to show up soon to give them an advantage. This is the cheapest unit ability and costs 1 level from your point bar.

Supply Drop

This ability allows you to parachute a supply crate that anyone on your team can use to replenish ammo and heal. Watch out, as it might overwhelm your people!!! You can also use this to take out enemy snipers. This requires 2 levels from the points scale.

Rapid Deployment

One of the most important unit abilities you have, when used, it cuts unit respawn time in half for a short amount of time! I usually leave this for units that have been wiped out / mass casualties to get them into combat faster. This requires 3 levels from your points scale.

Vehicle Drop

This ability allows you to drop an ATV that your team can use. Unless someone specifically asks you to do this, I wouldn’t waste your time on it, since virtually no one will use this thing. This is the most expensive unit ability, using all 4 levels of your score bar.

Ability Tactics/Tips:

  • I usually never use the Order Soldier ability because I find that just typing in chat is more effective and you can convey a lot more information.
  • During the game, you must place scans where squad leaders request them or where there is the most action. This will help your team and increase your score for using squad abilities.
  • During the game, you must use your evacuation order at all times, even if there is no danger. If there is a danger, you must report it to your team in the chat. This will ensure that the score bar is constantly filling up, allowing you to use the unit’s abilities. I usually use it around the edges of the map so as not to disturb my team.
  • When there is an enemy commander, you must save your EMP scan when his UAV obscures your teams’ positions.
  • When there is an enemy commander, save your proxy attack, because when he launches a cruise missile or sets up a gunship, you have to proxy the second you see the icons. The proxy can also be used after you launch your own missile to stop the enemy commander from proxying you and cancel it, however you have to be careful with this because the cruise missile may take a little time to reach its target. If the card you’re playing on doesn’t have any of these features, use it however you see fit.
  • You should always promote the units that see the most action to help them gain the most advantage. Using the advance ability on a sniper relaxing at your spawn is a waste of time.
  • When you see a friendly unit being destroyed, I like to use the quick deploy ability to get them back into the fight.

———————

General tactics/advice:

  • The commander must constantly look at the map to make sure that the enemies are not trying to flank comrades, call in enemy armor, or see if enemy facilities are empty and ready to be captured.
  • Communication is paramount in helping your team. As a commander, you have to be in constant text chat for your team, naming enemy positions, letting you know how many are on the target, etc. Good communication can literally save the game.
  • If your team doesn’t like you, squad leaders can vote Mutiny against you. On the Team Setup screen, they can click Change Rating and if the threshold is reached, you have 2 minutes to convince the team otherwise before you boot out of the game.
