The Battlefield series is 10 years old! As part of the celebration, we recall the classic trailers of the series. And let’s start with the game that started it all: Battlefield 1942, released in 2002. Below you will find the first published trailer for Battlefield 1942, created by DICE Senior Video Director Roland Smedberg.

Roland recalls working on this trailer: “This is the most classic of all the Battlefield 1942 trailers. If I’m not mistaken, its purpose was to showcase online play on the now legendary Wake Island map. At that moment 99% percent of game developers used pre-rendered graphics in their trailers. Since we were one of the few who showed the gameplay, we needed to mention it in the intro. I still remember the comments from viewers who didn’t believe this video was actually from the game.»

Battlefield 1942 Retrospective (Text originally published on www.dice.se)
Battlefield 1942 is the first game in the Battlefield series. Possibly one of the top multiplayer games, Battlefield 1942 was a defining moment for DICE. Armed with the knowledge and experience of developing the spiritual predecessor, Codename Eagle, the studio set out to create the game of their dreams.

Sometimes it seems like it was only yesterday.
Based on the honing of the ideas of the Codename Eagle, Battlefield 1942 threw players into battle both as foot soldiers and in command of a variety of vehicles, from submarines to cruisers and bombers. The game introduced a key Battlefield definition of «rock-paper-scissors» gameplay, as well as the concept of «Battlefield moment», when people described their experience of unique non-scripted events in an online game.
It also introduced core Battlefield concepts such as the Conquest tactical game mode and team play functionality. Actions such as marking enemies and repairing damaged vehicles became mandatory elements that were present in all subsequent games in the Battlefield series. The fact that teamwork was generously rewarded broke the norms of the time and no doubt played a major role in the success of Battlefield 19. 42.
Battlefield 1942 brought DICE worldwide recognition and a multi-million fan base. The game has sold over four million copies and won numerous awards including the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences’ Game of the Year, Most Innovative Game of the Year, and Online Game of the Year. In 2010, the game received the «Game of the Decade» award from the Swedish Video Game Awards. But, nevertheless, the most important is the fact that it was Battlefield 1942 that gave rise to one of the most loved and popular game series in the world.

Rising Sun Division

The 23rd Division, also known as the Rising Sun Division, was formed in 1938 during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945).

EMPIRE’S EDGE

The Greater East Asia Common Prosperity Sphere, also known as East Asia’s New Order, was a concept in which the idea was to liberate Asia from Western colonial powers and create a bloc of Asian states under the leadership of Japan. This concept served as an explanation for Japan’s expansion into Asia during World War II, but the reality was that Japan replaced Western powers with ruthless administration and drained resources in most of its conquered nations in order to achieve its own imperial ambitions. At the height of World War II, the Empire of Japan was one of the largest in history, its sovereignty reached 8,510,000 km2, and the occupied regions and territories accounted for 20% of the world’s population. However, after the surrender of Japan on September 19For 45 years, its territories were limited to Japan and its islands, and as a result, the Co-Prosperity Sphere ceased to exist.

2e RIMa

The 2nd Marine Regiment (2e Régiment d’Infanterie de Marine or 2e RIMa) is a French army marine regiment active from 1831 to the present. During World War II, the regiment took part in the Battle of France and resisted the German invasion forces at Amiens, but was disbanded after the fall of France in 1940. 2e RIMa was rebuilt by the Free French Forces in 1941 and participated in the Battle of Keren during the East African Campaign as part of the Free French Brigade of the East. In 1942, the regiment became part of the 2nd Free French Brigade, which in 1943 became part of the 1st Free French Division (1re Division Française Libre or 1re DFL). They participated in operations and campaigns in Libya and Tunisia, including the Battle of El Alamein and the Battle of Takroon. The 1re DFL joined the Italian Campaign in April 1944, where it fought at the Battle of Pontecorvo, and landed in Provence during Operation Dragoon, an Allied landing in southern France. Finally at 1945, as part of the First French Army, the division fought against the German troops in the Colmar pocket and participated in the liberation of the city.

ROT

The Burma Campaign (1941-1944) was heavily influenced by the geographical features of the region — the tropical climate was especially harsh in the 1940s. From May to November, the heat was exhilarating and painful, and then came the monsoon season with extreme storms that soaked soldiers and their equipment, followed by insects that relentlessly attacked them, and tropical diseases that spread among the troops like wildfire. . This made logistics extremely difficult for both sides, but it hit the Japanese harder than the Allies, and by 19In 44, the Japanese troops suffered their biggest military defeat at that time. In total, the Japanese lost 200,000 men in Burma, and some argue that 78% of these losses were non-combat losses caused by famine and disease.

COLONIAL ATTACK

Following in the footsteps of its German ally, Italy declared war on Britain in June 1940. Their goal was to occupy the British and French colonies in Africa, as well as wrest control of the Suez Canal from the British. Initially, Italian forces succeeded in seizing control of the upper Nile Valley in Sudan and British Somaliland. More troops were sent to take over the northern part of the British colony of Kenya and advance into Egypt in hopes of reaching the Suez Canal. By this time, however, the British had succeeded in staging three counter-offensives, and with much help from the Air Force, they managed to push back the Italians. This was followed by a series of battles for control of Libya and the regions of Egypt, and despite the help of the Germans, the last Italian troops in East Africa were defeated at the Battle of Gondar on November 1941 years old. However, several thousand Italian soldiers continued to wage guerrilla warfare until September 1943, when Italy surrendered to the Allies.

RNZAF KITTYHAWK

The Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk was the backbone of the Royal New Zealand Air Force fighter squadrons from 1942 until 1944 when they were replaced by Corsairs. 297 Kittyhawks manned eight RNZAF squadrons during World War II, mostly in the Southwest Pacific. By the end of the war, only 124 Kittyhawks remained, 20 were shot down in action, 152 were lost in accidents abroad and in New Zealand. At the time when the Kittyhawks were used on the front lines, at least 9 were destroyed during the air battles.9 Japanese aircraft.

114th INFANTRY REGIMENT

The 114th Infantry Regiment was a regiment in the 56th Division of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. In 1942, during the Pacific War, the division was sent to Burma and landed at Rangoon as an attachment to the 25th Army. In Burma, the division participated in the Battle of Tongu in March 1942, where it overwhelmed the defending Chinese forces. The division would later move into the Karenni states of Burma, where it would defeat the Chinese 6th Corps and force them into retreat. From May 19For 42 years, the 56th Division mainly performed garrison duties on the Yunnan border with China, but in 1944 heavy fighting against the Allied forces resumed. During the course of the fighting, it was the 114th Infantry Regiment that destroyed Merrill’s Marauders during the Siege of Myitkyina and managed to delay and inflict heavy losses on the superior Chinese forces during the Battle of Song Mountain. During the same battles, the 56th division suffered heavy losses and was withdrawn from the front line and ended the war on the border between South Burma and Thailand.

Balance changes

In addition to releasing new cards, we have also changed the balance of several existing ones.

Among them is the famous 2nd California. Some changes have affected individual maps with an air theme. Below you will find the details and get more information in the blog dedicated to these changes: Improvements

Bug fixes in the bundle

Despite all these innovations and updates, the bug war has not stopped, resulting in a lot of bug fixes.
