This permanent change in brightness ranges between 2.2 and 3.5. It is assumed that other dark stars also belong to the Algol star system. A darker star has a purely Saturnian nature, a lighter one conveys not only Saturnian, but also Mars-Uranium influence. If the darker brother is facing the Earth, then invisible destructive actions are performed. These are the hours when Algol is less bright. In ancient times, people were afraid of him.

Dr. Lomer in August 1959 in the journal «Cosmobiology» wrote: «The Arab military leaders noticed that in the conquest of lands it is impossible to start decisive battles when Algol is at a loss.» Despite its significant distance from the ecliptic, the influence of this double star is very strong and destructive in most cases. I’ve always liked the name: Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean . So ebullient! So verbose! He hints at an overarching myth that will be archived in novels, comics, and half a dozen sequels that have been passed down to eternity by a legion of dedicated cosplayers and otakus, his lore laced with endless GameFAQ debates. Of course, nothing happened. Baten Kaitos is a role-playing game based on 2004 card games developed by Monolith Soft and tri-Crescendo and published by Namco. It was released exclusively for the Gamecube and earned a decent 80 percent replacement on Metacritic. There is something of a cult following in the game today; best known for its active, silent combat and tasteful baroque soundtrack. Namco returned to the Baten Kaitos series for the last time in 2006 with the release of Baten Kaitos Origins , but the franchise has since been dropped into the spiky memory hole that doomed so many other Gamecube JRPGs such as Evolution Worlds, Lost Kingdoms, Virtua Quest et al.

This would probably have been the fate of the game to this day if it wasn’t for the hard work of Julien «Buffan» Jaffrous, the successful French speed racer, that’s his 100 percent completion, devoid of Eternal Wings and Lost Ocean . He holds the world record: 341 hours, 20 minutes and three seconds. Yes, you understood that correctly. Cleaning every facet of Baten Kaitos literally takes more than two weeks. This curiosity has made the game a legendary piece of speed lore, and although Buffan is the only competitor in the bracket, he is still eyeing the prize.

“My ultimate goal is to reach 340 hours, which is going to be hell,” he tells me by email. “At the moment I would just like to do sub 341 on my next run. I would be happy with that.»

As you might expect, Baten Kaitos has the distinction of being the single longest 100 percent run in acceleration history. If you’re unfamiliar with the scene’s diction, «100 Percent» requires the runner to collect every single doodad, kill every boss, complete every side quest, and go through with the credits, knowing you’ve pushed out every challenge the game has to offer. («Any percentage», on the other hand, just means making it to the end of the credits, and naturally Baffan holds the Baten Kaitos title in that category too. ) 100 percent runs are usually reserved for games that are durable and non-modular — you never see a completion route for World of Warcraft or Civilization, but Buffan wasn’t involved. In early 2015, he hit the ceiling at any percentage of Baten Kaitos and he struggled to break the record he set in the format the year before. He had two options; either theorycraft any new percentage route from scratch, or an attempt at something more daring. Buffan chose the latter and came up with a way to do so through Baten Kaitos with every item in his inventory. The feat seemed truly impossible—unprecedented in a way that rarely happens—and it’s the kind of challenge that attracts like-minded people.
