Use Shazam on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac

Use Shazam to find out what song is playing on the radio, in the store, or wherever you hear it. Shazam saves songs you’ve identified, which you can browse to discover new music.

Shazam identifies songs by creating unique digital fingerprints to match what you hear with one of the millions of songs in Shazam’s database.

Identify songs with Shazam

You can use Shazam and Music Recognition in Control Center on iPhone and iPad, Shazam on Apple Watch and Mac, Siri, etc. to identify songs.

Use Shazam apps on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Shazam app on your device.
  2. Press the Shazam button to find out what music is playing near you.

You can find the songs you have identified on the My Music screen in Shazam. The songs you have identified are also transferred to iCloud.

Once detected, click the play button next to the Shazam to preview it. If you have an Apple Music subscription, you can listen to entire songs on Shazam. Connect Shazam to other music streaming services supported by Shazam.

If you don’t have an internet connection, the program still creates a unique fingerprint to match against the Shazam database the next time your device connects to the internet. If a song cannot be determined, it will be removed from the Shazam waiting list.

Identify songs in Control Center on iPhone or iPad

With Music Recognition on iPhone or iPad, you can identify songs directly in Control Center. To add Music Recognition to Control Center, go to Settings > Control Center, then click the Add button next to Music Recognition.*

To define songs, open Control Center, then click the Shazam button . Shazam can detect the songs being played on the device, even when using headphones.

To search for identified songs, press and hold the Shazam button in Control Center to open the history view. Click on a song to open it in Shazam.

And if you have synced Music Recognition in Control Center using the Shazam app, the songs you have identified are displayed on the My Music screen in the Shazam app and are also transferred to iCloud.

*Requires iOS or iPadOS 14.2 or later.

Using Auto Shazam

To have Shazam automatically detect what music is playing near you, press and hold the Shazam button. When Auto Shazam is enabled, the Shazam app matches the music you play with the songs in the Shazam database even if you switch to another app. Shazam never saves or stores music.

To turn off Auto Shazam, press the Shazam button.

To have Shazam automatically start listening when you open the app on your iPhone or iPad, swipe up to the My Music screen from the Shazam home screen, tap the Settings button, and then turn on Startup Detection.

You can find songs identified by Auto Shazam on the My Music screen, grouped by date.

With the release of iOS 14.2 (iPadOS 14.2), the mechanism for calling Shazam was implemented through a special button in Control Center. We talked in detail about how to add and use it in this material.

Here we will only tell you how to view the history of recognized tracks.

2. Press and hold the Shazam button in Control Center until a search history popup appears.

. For example, Apple devices can listen to and identify music played near them by integrating the popular Shazam application into Siri.

Communication with an assistant on this topic has become much more convenient and easier. It is enough to ask a concise question: “Hey Siri, what is this song?”, and the correct answer will be quickly given.

But ease of use can be a problem over time. A convenient function is accessed so often that melodies and their names turn into a big mixed ball. After a few days, you realize that you no longer remember what you were looking for a little earlier. Fortunately, it is possible to view all the requests made to Siri. The program stores the history of music requests to it on a special tab of the standard iOS application iTunes Store.

In order not to talk again about how to recognize songs using Siri, we will assume that the user has had such experience at least once from the lips of the question: «Siri, what is this playing?» . If such attempts have not been made before, then it is better to try to do this before starting our short training course. Otherwise, the list will be empty and will not make any sense.

If this feature has been used recently, or if Siri has been accessed before, let’s learn how to access a list of songs that you have tried to recognize in the past.

1. Locate the iTunes Store shortcut on the home screen and launch it. If not, download it from the App Store.

2. Once launched, a blue icon will appear in the upper right corner of the application, resembling a numbered list.
