NVIDIA teases GeForce RTX 3080, 4080, and 5080 to hurt Navi?

NVIDIA has just filed for trademarks of 3080, 4080 and 5080 with the European Union Intellectual Property Ofice in an effort to slow the hype train for AMD’s next-gen Navi-based graphics cards that are rumored to launch as the Radeon RX 3000 series.

These new Navi-based cards will reportedly include the Radeon RX 3070 and Radeon RX 3080 which, these new patent grabs, would hurt AMD big time. NVIDIA currently sells the GeForce RTX series of cards including the RTX 2060, 2070, 2080, and 2080 Ti.

We all know how this works: most unsuspecting (not all) people will see a higher number (RX 3080) and think by default it is faster than the smaller number (RTX 2080). I worked retail IT sales selling these exact types of computer products for 10 years before I began at TweakTown, and it happened all the time. The issue here is, will NVIDIA call its next-gen GeForce cards RTX 3080, followed by RTX 4080, and then RTX 5080? Or is this the company trying to meddle in the launch of its competitors’ next-gen graphics cards?

The Nvidia RTX 4080 is now officially a thing, and could be the GPU for you. While it doesn’t beat the flagship RTX 4090, the RTX 3080 successor still offers enthusiast levels of performance that stretch beyond the boundaries of mid-tier options, but it’s by no means cheap.

Taking aim at the best graphics card crown, Nvidia originally announced two RTX 4080 graphics cards during its GTC keynote reveal. Since then, the green team has ‘unlaunched’ its lower-spec 12GB model, amid criticisms that it was merely an overclocked RTX 4070. To help shallow Nvidia’s sea of announced specs, we’ve gathered everything we know about RTX 4080 release date, price, specs, and benchmark rumours.

Here’s everything we know about the Nvidia RTX 4080 GPU:

Nvidia RTX 4080 price

The Nvidia RTX 4080 priceis a little loftier than many were expecting, setting you back $1,199 USD / £1,269 GBP. This is nearly double the MSRP of the RTX 3080, which landed on shelves at $699 in 2020, bucking the trend of incremental $100 price jumps.

Compared to its rival, the RTX 4080 is also $200 more expensive than the top AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, and $300 pricier than the 7900 XT. Only time will tell how these graphics cards stack up against one another, however.

Nvidia RTX 4080 release date

The Nvidia RTX 4080 release date lands on November 16 – roughly one month after the RTX 4090 graphics card’s debut. Currently, there’s no sign of an RTX 4060 or 4070, but the RTX 4070 Ti could be a repurposed 12GB RTX 4080.

Nvidia RTX 4080 specs

Official Nvidia RTX 4080 specs have finally arrived, and the high-end card will pack 9,728 CUDA cores, a 2.51GHz boost clock, and a 256-bit memory bus. Now that the 12GB model isn’t happening, the only version that’s available is the 16GB variant.

Nvidia’s high-end graphics card also comes equipped with a new 12-pin PCIe Gen 5 power connector, designed to receive 600W from PSUs over a single cable. So, if you’re planning to switch out your current GPU, you might need to either upgrade your power supply or grab an adapter that converts 6+2 configurations.

Nvidia RTX 4080 benchmarks

Nvidia RTX 4080 benchmarks were shared by team green during its GeForce Beyond event, during which the company claimed that its new flagship graphics card is “2-4x faster than the 3080 Ti”.

Product standard: Series 86

Fences for loggias BOL 51-4.5 — unique reinforced concrete products, the need for which arose after the development of All-Union standard series of residential buildings with improved planning ( Series 86 ). These elements are an important part of the architectural and compositional solutions of the building and are used as protective elements of terraces built into the overall dimensions of buildings, called loggias. Structurally, they are rectangular slabs and are used along with brick and metal fences. Fixing in place and fixing the protective railing are carried out by welding.

— Other finishes mastered by the manufacturer.

These railing blocks have been designed as accessories series 85 and 86 , since the fences made of sand-lime bricks often collapsed due to exposure to atmospheric moisture.

3. Product designation

Designation railings for loggias BOL 51-4. 5 contains complete information about the purpose and geometric dimensions, but data on the characteristics of the concrete mix should be additionally indicated depending on the climatic conditions at the place of construction of buildings. The thickness of the fencing panels is not additionally indicated in the marking. The marking reads like this:

1. BOL — type of product: concrete fence of the loggia;

2. 51 — length rounded to a larger value, expressed in decimeters;

3. 4.5 — the height of the fence, expressed in decimeters;

4. 1 — a distinctive feature that characterizes the absence of rectangular holes in the panel and the presence of 4 embedded products: two side and two top. (the 2nd modification has two rectangular holes and two upper mortgages are missing).

Markings are applied on the side surfaces of the fences facing the walls with indelible paint.

4. Manufacture and main features

Fences for loggias BOL 51-4.5 are adapted for each specific project, taking into account the temperature and humidity characteristics of the region on the basis of TU 65.10-260-85 . The molding equipment used for their production must ensure compliance with geometric dimensions within tolerance and high quality of the outer surfaces. Concrete grade 300 is used for manufacturing. Its frost resistance and water permeability are determined at the design stage of the building, but not worse than F50 and W4. The manufacture of frames and meshes is carried out using resistance spot welding. The type of finish or class of external surfaces is specified by the customer. Sagging and chips on any surfaces of the fence are unacceptable. The release strength of concrete is at least 80% in the warm season, and in the cold season it is agreed with the customer.

5. Transport and storage

Storage and transportation fencing slabs for loggias BOL 51-4.5 is allowed only mounted on edge in a vertical or inclined position. All movements should be carried out strictly by the mounting loops. When transported by any mode of transport, the railings must be located with the long side in the direction of travel. The minimum distance to the board must exceed 100mm.
